Wagging My Tail in the Ice Queen CEO’s Embrace - Chapter 73
Ming Ying was completely focused on Fu Anyu’s condition, forgetting exactly where she was rubbing.
When she noticed Fu Anyu’s flushed face, she asked with concern, “Should I turn the air conditioning down a bit more? You look so hot your face is red.”
Seeing that she was actually about to adjust the AC, Fu Anyu flipped her hand over and clasped Ming Ying’s.
“Sometimes I don’t understand,” Fu Anyu said quietly, looking at the little fox. “Do you really not know anything?”
Ming Ying didn’t grasp her meaning and stared back at her blankly.
Fu Anyu simply raised her hand and placed it directly over Ming Ying’s heart.
Ming Ying was startled, her ears even twitching in surprise, but she didn’t pull away.
Her heartbeat instantly quickened as she looked at Fu Anyu in confusion. Fu Anyu, however, didn’t withdraw her hand for a long time, her warm palm pressed firmly against Ming Ying’s chest, making her feel flustered.
But it was then that Ming Ying suddenly understood what Fu Anyu had meant, and she immediately felt her own face grow hot as well.
“Now I think I understand.” Fu Anyu said after a few seconds of locked gazes.
Ming Ying waited for her to continue, but instead, Fu Anyu withdrew her hand, closed her eyes wearily, and the blush on her face gradually faded.
Seeing this, Ming Ying couldn’t help but feel a bit regretful. She had genuinely only wanted to help Fu Anyu feel better quickly, but who knew… who knew she would end up being so forward with her!
She had no idea what Fu Anyu must be thinking of her now, whether she thought Ming Ying had done it on purpose.
Hurriedly, she tucked the blanket around Fu Anyu and, after a moment’s thought, asked anxiously, “Are you still in pain?”
“No,” Fu Anyu said softly. “I just feel a bit stuffy. Go do your own thing and let me rest alone for a while.”
“How can I do that!” Ming Ying insisted stubbornly. “You’re feeling this way because of me. I won’t leave! I can stay and take care of you. I, I won’t bother you!”
Seeing her determined attitude, Fu Anyu didn’t press further and began circulating her spiritual energy to ease her discomfort.
Within minutes, she heard Ming Ying call her name in a very, very soft voice.
“What is it?” she asked with her eyes closed.
“Are you going back to the company this afternoon?” Ming Ying remembered Chen Yanxue’s words before she left.
“I never planned to go back to the company this afternoon,” Fu Anyu said. “If Hu Xiuliu drags his feet, I’ll stay with you the whole time.”
Ming Ying was taken aback for a moment before she realized the implication.
This actually had nothing to do with Hu Xiuliu; Fu Anyu was just making an excuse for her own actions. The important part was the latter half of her sentence,
“I’ll stay with you the whole time.”
She hastily said, “Thank you, sister,” her mind in complete disarray.
“Hu Xiuliu and the others have probably set off by now,” Fu Anyu said. “It takes about two hours to get to Linlan Manor from here. If he hasn’t sent a message by evening, we might have to go there early too.”
“You can’t go.” Ming Ying shook her head.
“I’m really fine.” Fu Anyu smiled. “It’s not as bad as when you took my spiritual energy last time.”
Ming Ying fell silent, just looking at her resentfully. After a few seconds, she said, “Don’t you dare coax me.”
“I won’t coax you,” Fu Anyu said, her eyes still closed, her voice still soft.
Seeing this, Ming Ying didn’t disturb her rest any further and moved to sit on the other side of the bed.
She had no experience with keeping vigil, so once Fu Anyu’s breathing deepened, she thought for a moment, then raised her hand and drew several small spirit-gathering arrays, suspending them around Fu Anyu. She then channeled her own spiritual energy into each of the arrays.
Wood spiritual power possessed restorative properties. Even though Ming Ying didn’t know any healing spells, her spiritual energy could still be of some use.
After continuously releasing her spiritual power for about an hour, Ming Ying grew tired from the heavy consumption of energy. She waved her hand to disperse the spirit-gathering array, transformed back into a fox, and curled up beside Fu Anyu.
Her fox form was much more well-behaved than her human form.
The two of them, one human and one fox, slept through the entire afternoon. At half past four, Ming Ying was the first to wake up, and her gaze toward Fu Anyu was noticeably different.
This time, she had dreamed of taking liberties with Fu Anyu.
In the dream, she had bound Fu Anyu’s hands with vines, forcing her to rest her head on her nine tails while looking at her in panic.
“Let me go,” Fu Anyu urged her. “Be good and listen to your sister.”
But Ming Ying stubbornly lifted Fu Anyu’s chin, rubbed her face against hers for a long time, and finally kissed her lips, wrapping her entire body in her tails to keep her from moving.
Ming Ying felt that this must have been the influence of the drama she had watched earlier that day. The show had corrupted her, making her dream of actively encroaching upon Fu Anyu. If Du Yunxin found out, she would surely marvel at her audacity.
After waking up, she could still vividly recall how it felt to have Fu Anyu struggling in her embrace.
But after staring at Fu Anyu’s sleeping face for a while, she swallowed somewhat inappropriately, then leaped to the floor as if fleeing, dragged over her long-unused cool mat bed, and curled up inside to reflect on her actions.
Fu Anyu had a long dream.
She returned to the darkest period of her life, guarding the vast villa alone, gradually sealing away all the colors of her past into cabinets.
One day, while organizing her plush toys, a little nine-tailed fox suddenly rolled out of the closed wardrobe, pinned to the floor by a giant Shiba Inu pillow, whimpering tearfully, “Save me.”
She hurriedly moved the pillow aside and reached out to pick up the little fox. But as she did, the fox transformed into a human in her arms, dressed in bright red ancient-style robes, blinking her bright eyes, and said, “You saved me, Benefactor. I ought to stay and repay your kindness.”
“I’m truly sorry, but I can’t afford to keep a fox,” Fu Anyu said, delighted to see Ming Ying in her dream but frowning and shaking her head regretfully. “I’ve even given away my pet dog.”
“That’s alright! I’m a nine-tailed great demon, I don’t eat mortal grains!” The little fox clasped her hands behind her back, her tails happily brushing against Fu Anyu’s face. “Just give me a bed and a blanket, and I’ll be content~”
And so, she took in the little fox, leaving her the bedroom that held the sealed memories of her past to guard and live in.
The little fox loved the room, cleaning it every few days and adding many potted plants inside.
Whenever Fu Anyu returned home exhausted from work, the door would always open by itself, and the little fox, dressed in splendid attire, would be waiting at the entrance, beaming as she said, “Welcome home! I’ve already ordered dinner, it’ll be here in five minutes~”
Their days together were peaceful. Though the little fox never found an opportunity to repay her kindness, she would joyfully run over to cling to Fu Anyu every day, wrapping her tails around her arms and body, or enduring her discomfort to let her freely stroke her tails for stress relief.
Months passed in the blink of an eye. On Fu Anyu’s 23rd birthday, after celebrating with her, Ming Ying said reluctantly, “It’s time for me to go home. I don’t know if we’ll ever meet again.”
She stared at the little fox in astonishment. The little fox also drooped her ears and murmured, “I haven’t repaid your kindness yet, but my time in this world is almost up. If I don’t return home soon, I’ll disappear.”
“What can I do to make you stay?” Fu Anyu asked urgently.
The little fox suddenly blushed, stammering after a long pause, “If you kiss me, we’ll form a bond. That way, even if I go home, I can come back to find you. But our relationship hasn’t reached that point yet…”
Before she could finish, Fu Anyu pulled her into an embrace and kissed her on the lips.
The little fox nervously swished her tail, lightly brushing against Fu Anyu’s body, but allowed herself to be held.
“Our relationship is already worthy of this kiss,” Fu Anyu said softly, pulling away. “You must remember to come back to me.”
But before she could hear the little fox’s response, she woke from the dream.
When she opened her eyes, Fu Anyu still felt a lingering sense of regret. But that regret instantly turned to panic when she realized Ming Ying was neither on the bed nor beside her.
“Ming Ying!” she called out anxiously. “Where are you?”
Ming Ying had tired herself out with self-reflection and was now sound asleep in her little bed under the bed frame. Fu Anyu called out several times, but failed to wake her.
Fu Anyu instinctively wanted to get up and search for the fox, but gave up when she realized her limbs felt weak. She recited a calming mantra to steady herself, picked up her phone from beside the pillow, opened WeChat, found the little fox’s contact, and sent her a message.
Shortly after, she heard a distinct “ying” sound, a fox cry coming from under the other side of the bed. She quickly moved to the edge and looked down.
A white fox with four tails was curled up asleep in the dog bed. Her phone lay on a nearby cushion, its screen still glowing.
Fu Anyu instinctively glanced at her own phone and saw the message she had just sent to the little fox.
[Sister: Where are you?]
The little fox hadn’t given her any suggestive nickname, simply noting their current relationship respectfully.
After the screen went dark, Fu Anyu lay back down, withdrew the message she had just sent, and stared at the ceiling, wondering if she should take the little fox in human form to the Management Bureau again to modify their registered relationship. For example…
But she quickly dismissed the fleeting thought.
She rubbed her temples, convinced she must have been influenced by the dream.
How absurd. Better to wait until the little fox confirms she wants to stay long-term before considering such things.
When Ming Ying woke up, it was already dark outside. The aroma of food wafted up from downstairs, stirring her appetite.
She stretched contentedly, transformed into her human form, slipped into her pajamas, picked up her phone from the cushion to check the time, and planned to wake Fu Anyu for dinner.
But when she straightened up, she found the bed empty.
Puzzled, Ming Ying opened her phone and headed out, wondering if she should send Fu Anyu a message to ask.
To her surprise, she saw on the chat screen: “Sister withdrew a message.” sent two hours ago.
Ming Ying was shocked. Recalling the time, she realized she must have been deep in sleep then, she hadn’t even heard the notification sound, and she had set it to be very loud!
Frustrated, she hurried downstairs with her phone, calling out as she descended, “Sister! Are you downstairs?”
Fu Anyu had just finished setting out the tableware when she saw the little fox come dashing down the stairs with a clamor, her long hair a tangled mess from sleep.
She responded with a sound, set down the last plate, washed her hands in the downstairs bathroom, and then went to find Ming Ying with a comb in hand.
“Let me comb your hair first, then you can eat,” Fu Anyu said.
Seeing her, Ming Ying immediately calmed down and obediently brought over a stool to sit on.
Fu Anyu stood behind her, but as soon as the comb touched her hair, she felt her phone vibrating intensely in her pocket.
Frowning slightly, she took out her phone and found three consecutive messages from Hu Xiuliu.
[Hu Xiuliu: It’s confirmed, the location is not the entrance to the demon realm.]
[Hu Xiuliu: We also found the cause of the demonic energy fluctuation. How should I put it, it’s a bit surreal. Let me think about how to describe it.]
[Hu Xiuliu: Well, we found a fox demon at the location, a white fox, female, with only one tail. She’s severely injured, half her body covered in blood. He Che is planning to take her to the hospital for surgery first.]
