Wagging My Tail in the Ice Queen CEO’s Embrace - Chapter 51
Ming Ying waited happily nearby. Seeing Du Yunxin’s smile suddenly turn strange, she couldn’t help but ask, “What’s wrong?”
Du Yunxin quickly suppressed her knowing smile and cleared her throat lightly. “Congratulations! Your first date starts at nine tonight!”
Although Fu Anyu had reminded her not to joke around with the little fox, since the little fox would take it seriously, her intuition told her that the little fox seemed to be developing some budding feelings. To ensure the little fox wouldn’t have any regrets in the human realm, she decided to take the risk and play matchmaker, even if it meant a potential pay cut.
Ming Ying was confused, but she remembered that in novels, “dates” were an essential part of falling in love. Her eyes widened in surprise. “Who am I going on a date with?”
“With President Fu, of course!” Du Yunxin hurriedly went to make a reservation. “Didn’t you say you wanted to have coffee with her? She asked me to book a table for nine tonight, just the two of you.”
Ming Ying was stunned. Her first instinct was to say that wasn’t what she meant, she had only intended for Xiao Du to inform Fu Anyu that she planned to attend Hu Xiuliu’s coffee gathering. But then it occurred to her that tonight, it would be just her and Fu Anyu. She swallowed her words silently.
Even though her meaning had been misunderstood, wasn’t this actually quite nice?
But the thought of going out tonight made her nervous. She quickly grabbed Du Yunxin’s hand and asked, “What about my clothes?”
“Oh! Actually, they dried yesterday, I forgot to tell you.” Du Yunxin replied. “Wait a moment, let me book the table first, By the way, what kind of date setting do you like? How about somewhere near the lake? Or would you prefer the mountains?”
Ming Ying had no experience in this area. As she hesitated, she suddenly remembered that in The Ice-Queen CEO’s Fierce Love, the main characters had their first date at a restaurant by the lake. “Let’s go with the lake,” she said. “This season, there are too many bugs in the mountains.”
Considering that the little fox was still unfamiliar with the outside world, Du Yunxin booked a table at the Winter Ripple Bay Café, the closest one to the villa. After making the reservation, she went upstairs to fetch the little fox’s clothes and then returned to show her the surrounding area on a map.
Ming Ying held the clothes Fu Anyu had given her, lowered her head, and took a sniff. The faint scent of jasmine filled her nose.
“The café isn’t far, just a five-minute drive, or a twenty-minute walk,” Du Yunxin said, zooming in on the map to show her the route. “Look, this is our home. Yanxue will drive from here, along this road, to the café.”
Ming Ying stared down at the map on her phone, but her mind had already wandered off the moment she caught the jasmine scent.
The outfit Fu Anyu had given her was, of course, designed for humans, with no space left for a tail. Ming Ying listened distractedly as Du Yunxin finished explaining the route, then went back upstairs to the guest room to change.
The guest room had a full-length mirror, large and imposing, with orange stickers adorning its four corners.
Ming Ying closed the door, turned on the light, and drew the curtains. She retracted all her tails and slowly began to change.
Even without removing the Spirit-Control Device, she could put on the clothes without any trouble. The thick white top, the bright red skirt, and a pair of fitted sleeves, once she had put everything on, Ming Ying stood in front of the mirror and felt as though she had returned home.
Back in her hometown, however, such attire was typically only worn by fox officials who performed ceremonial dances during sacrifices.
She carefully fastened every button, clumsily tied the various ribbons, and let down her ponytail, which had become messy while changing. Her beautiful hair cascaded over her shoulders.
This way, it seems too mature, lacking a lot of vitality, and doesn’t really match the outfit.
Ming Ying thought for a moment and decided to braid her hair. But she had no idea how to braid it. Even after finding a comb on the bathroom sink, she couldn’t smooth her hair out and ended up hurting herself, grimacing in pain.
She had no choice but to take the comb and hair tie and go downstairs to ask Du Yunxin for help.
Du Yunxin was in the middle of cutting a watermelon to eat. When she saw the little fox wearing a full set of clothes, she was so startled that the piece of watermelon in her hand fell into the bowl.
“Come! I’ll help you with your hair!” she quickly washed her hands, took the comb, and motioned for Ming Ying to follow her to her room.
It was Ming Ying’s first time entering her bedroom, and she discovered it was as messy as a storage room, with the bed piled high with various large plush pillows. Only the area around the computer desk and the vanity table was clean.
“All those pillows were gifts from Yan Xue before. Since I’m just doing your hair, I won’t bother tidying up this mess,” Du Yunxin said, pulling out the stool from the vanity table and having Ming Ying sit down. “You demon folk look pretty good even without makeup. I don’t think you need cosmetics when going out.”
Ming Ying glanced at the various bottles and jars on the table and suddenly remembered that her mother’s vanity table also had many similar items. But her mother called them “rouge boxes,” and she had never heard the term “cosmetics” before.
Du Yunxin first combed her long hair smooth, a step that took over ten minutes alone. Then, she carefully braided it tightly, pulling some of the shorter strands to frame her forehead.
After finishing the braid, Du Yunxin looked at it from all angles and felt something was missing. Glancing down, she noticed the spirit-control device on Ming Ying’s wrist and couldn’t help saying, “If only this bell of yours had a hair accessory version.”
Her reminder made Ming Ying recall that when Fu Anyu had picked out the spirit-control device for her, there had been a full set of accessories, including hair ornaments. At the time, she had thought about wearing more of them once she took human form, so she said, “There is one.”
“Really? What a coincidence!” Du Yunxin exclaimed happily. “Then quickly give it to me”
“But it’s with Sister,” Ming Ying interrupted apologetically.
“Oh, never mind then,” Du Yunxin said, her smile undiminished. She rummaged through the vanity drawer and pulled out some vintage hair accessories she had collected years ago. “Pick some yourself. Whatever you choose, I’ll give them to you.”
“How can I accept this?”
“Ah, it’s fine. I bought them just for collecting anyway. Wouldn’t it be better if they could actually be of use?” Du Yunxin urged her. “Go on, pick some.”
Ming Ying chose three that she liked and held them out in her palm for Du Yunxin to see.
“Hmm, this one could barely serve as a substitute for the bell,” Du Yunxin said, taking one of the hairpins and securing it in Ming Ying’s hair while facing the mirror. “When Fu Anyu comes back, remember to ask her for the bell.”
Ming Ying looked at her reflection in the mirror and shyly hummed in agreement.
“Hey, wait, have you bought shoes yet?” Du Yunxin suddenly remembered.
She recalled that Fu Anyu had only ordered clothes, skirts, and underwear, but no shoes or socks. Perhaps she thought the little fox wouldn’t need to go out so soon, and if she did, she could just go as a fox without needing to take human form.
Ming Ying looked at her blankly and shook her head.
She had no idea how to buy things using a phone or computer, Fu Anyu handled all of that.
“Oh no, President Fu’s shoes are extremely expensive and mostly custom-made. I wouldn’t dare let you try them without her permission!” Du Yunxin pressed her forehead in frustration. “All my shoes are old and wouldn’t match this outfit anyway. Besides, my feet are bigger than yours. You’ve never even worn human shoes before, you definitely can’t wear a size too large!”
“I wear slippers,” Ming Ying glanced down at her feet.
“Slippers are different from outdoor shoes,” Du Yunxin shook her head. “If you wear my shoes, you might trip over yourself while walking. Do you want your first date to be ruined by tripping on flat ground and embarrassing yourself in front of President Fu?”
Ming Ying certainly didn’t want that and fell silent.
“Actually, it’s not a big problem. You can wait for President Fu to come back,” Du Yunxin comforted her. “The date is at nine, but she’ll definitely be back by seven or eight. You still have plenty of time to prepare.”
She thought for a moment. “Do you have any plans for today? If not, I suggest searching online for ‘tips for a first date.'”
Ming Ying shook her head. Since transforming into human form and learning about the disappearance of the entrance to the demon realm, she had become less fixated on gathering spiritual energy and had started to quietly integrate into human life.
She picked up the tablet and asked Du Yunxin, “How do I search? I don’t have a SIM card yet, so I can’t get online.”
“You can connect to Wi-Fi,” Du Yunxin expertly pulled down the taskbar. “Right here, just tap to connect. President Fu should have saved our home Wi-Fi. See these characters? Once they appear, this icon at the top and the changing numbers mean you’re successfully connected and can go online.”
She then taught Ming Ying how to open a common browser and type her questions into the search engine.
“Wow, you’ve already learned to type with pinyin so quickly?” Du Yunxin was surprised to see Ming Ying using the nine-key input method at a decent speed.
Ming Ying, still unfamiliar with typing, focused entirely on the input box and only gave a vague response before slowly typing out what Du Yunxin had said.
After clicking the search button, she was dazzled by the full page of results that appeared.
Du Yunxin glanced at them, scrolled down a bit, and opened one of the results. “Look at this one. The Q&A content on this platform is reliable. But don’t follow everything, just remember the key points and adjust based on President Fu’s reactions during the date.”
The day passed quickly. After dinner, around 8:30, Fu Anyu returned with Chen Yanxue.
Ming Ying remembered Fu Anyu mentioning that the café had pastries, so she hadn’t eaten much for dinner. When she greeted Fu Anyu at the door, her stomach betrayed her with an audible growl.
“I brought you a gift,” Fu Anyu said. Chen Yanxue stepped forward, placed a bag on the floor, pulled out a box, and opened it.
Inside was a pair of soft-soled white high-top shoes with delicate cloud patterns embroidered around the collar. The overall design was very vintage.
Du Yunxin, standing to the side, nearly blurted out “Holy crap!” upon seeing the shoes.
She had been worried all day about how the little fox would manage without proper shoes for the date, never expecting her boss to be the one with the perfect solution.
“Try them on and see if they fit,” Fu Anyu led Ming Ying to sit on the sofa, personally took out the shoes, and handed them to her.
Ming Ying was extremely nervous. These were likely the only shoes she could wear tonight. If they didn’t fit, she might have to go to the café in slippers or simply transform back into a fox and let Fu Anyu carry her.
She carefully took the shoes and cautiously tried them on, finding they fit perfectly. The style was acceptable to her, and the overall color and details matched the outfit she was wearing.
Staring at the new shoes, she felt a bit dazed. Suddenly, she remembered that the local guidebook of Y City mentioned that the city had many ancient streets where such shoes were sold to tourists.
But she had also checked the map. Those ancient streets were very far from both Fu Anyu’s hotel and the meeting venue, at least an hour’s drive away.
Fu Anyu had returned so late today. Could it be that she had gone out of her way to buy these shoes for her?
