Wagging My Tail in the Ice Queen CEO’s Embrace - Chapter 48
Seeing the little fox fall silent, Fu Anyu also stopped speaking and sat with her on the guest room bed.
“You… you already know about my situation, but I haven’t heard about yours yet,” Ming Ying finally spoke after a long while. “This room is so nice, much more vibrant than your bedroom. You clearly like it too, so why insist on living across the hall?”
Her anger hadn’t yet subsided, so she decided to provoke Fu Anyu deliberately, poking at a sore spot.
Besides, this was something she had always been curious about.
Fu Anyu glanced around and let out a soft sigh.
“This room holds all of my past,” she said. “I just wanted to seal it away in that period of time.”
She told Ming Ying that shortly after graduating from university, she had gone on a road trip with her parents when they were involved in a serious car accident.
She had lost consciousness at the time, but thanks to the protection of her spiritual energy, her internal organs were cushioned from severe damage, leaving her with only serious external injuries.
However, her parents had died on the spot, their bodies mangled and bloody, leaving a deep psychological scar on her.
She survived but was left to deal with a mess, not only taking over her father’s company, Shengwei Group, but also facing harassment and opportunistic schemes from her mother’s relatives.
“This villa was purchased and decorated by my parents together,” Fu Anyu said softly. “When we moved in, I was still young. Aside from my favorite colors, I didn’t have many specific requests, so they designed everything in this room for me.”
This room not only held her past but also cherished memories of her family.
“I really love this place,” she continued. “But precisely because I love it so much, I couldn’t rest peacefully here after my parents passed away. Every night, I would dream of the past, dreaming that my parents had returned, that the accident never happened, and that we were happily traveling together.”
“Later, as you can see, I ran away,” she said, looking at Ming Ying. “I left all of my past here and moved into the actual guest room across the hall. Although it’s cold and barely decorated, it allows me to focus on my work without distractions.”
Ming Ying had started crying as soon as she heard about Fu Anyu’s parents’ deaths and her survival, and by now, her eyes were red and swollen from weeping.
“Then, if this place is so important to you, why… why did you let me stay here?” she asked, her voice choked with sobs.
“It’s a bit of a selfish wish on my part,” Fu Anyu replied. “To sound a little sentimental, seeing you is like seeing my past self.”
You’re so innocent and carefree, so I want to give you the best of everything.
Ming Ying stared at her blankly. She was beginning to understand why Fu Anyu had said that keeping her wasn’t just out of pity.
Fu Anyu, under her parents’ protection, must have been just like her, carefree, able to do whatever made her happy, not like now, always wearing a cold expression everywhere she went, only able to relax at home and show her true self to those she trusted.
“If you find this selfish wish too heavy, you can move to another room,” Fu Anyu said, looking back at her. “I’ll have Xiao Du tidy it up for you. It won’t take long.”
“No need, I’m perfectly fine staying here,” Ming Ying quickly shook her head. Sniffling, she gripped the hem of her skirt in embarrassment and whispered, “Thank you for letting me guard this place.”
When expressing her gratitude, she extended her tail toward Fu Anyu, loosely wrapping it around her waist as a gesture of friendship and trust.
She couldn’t help but wonder what kind of person the real Fu Anyu was and what specific experiences had gradually shaped her into the person she was now.
Caught off guard, Fu Anyu looked down and found a fox tail obediently encircling her, its tip occasionally swaying as if in invitation. The melancholy that had settled over her while lost in memories unexpectedly lifted.
It suddenly occurred to her that Xiao Du’s nickname for the little fox, “Guardian Fox Deity”, might hold some truth. This little fox likely possessed a hidden ability to bless the inhabitants of the house, safeguarding their peace and happiness.
Fu Anyu reached out and stroked the fox tail. Hearing the little fox’s soft whimper, she couldn’t help but curl her lips into a smile.
Just like that, the tension between them melted away.
“Actually, it was Xiao Du who suggested I invite you to watch the sunset together,” Ming Ying said as she retracted her tail. “I thought, since you haven’t been out in the sun today, it would be nice to catch some rays before the sun sets.”
She glanced out the window and added sheepishly, “But I didn’t expect it to be this hot.”
“It won’t be as hot if we go now,” Fu Anyu reassured her. “Xiao Du splashes cold water on the ground every evening. Once the heat dissipates, it’s even pleasant to relax there.”
She led Ming Ying back upstairs.
The ground had just been watered, and with every breath, the damp scent filled the air.
Seeing that the evening glow in the sky hadn’t yet faded, Ming Ying stayed upstairs with Fu Anyu, enjoying the view and the cool breeze.
Before long, night fell, and it was time for dinner.
Considering Ming Ying’s appetite, Du Yunxin prepared a large table of dishes and even cooked twice the usual amount of rice.
Ming Ying had actually been hungry for a while, but the events of the afternoon had been overwhelming. She had even cried, forgetting her hunger in the process. The moment Du Yunxin handed her a bowl of rice, she buried her head in it, eating voraciously without saying a word.
Du Yunxin noticed her red-rimmed eyes and, while Fu Anyu was focused on her meal, shot her a reproachful glance.
Even though she knew Fu Anyu wouldn’t do anything untoward, Du Yunxin couldn’t help but let her imagination run wild.
They say domineering CEOs aren’t gentle with delicate beauties, it seemed the novels hadn’t lied.
With that thought, she used to serve chopsticks to place a large pork knuckle in the little fox’s bowl, advising in a motherly tone, “Here, injured ones need to replenish their strength.”
Mouth full of food, Ming Ying could only nod repeatedly.
“We’ll leave at seven tomorrow,” Fu Anyu said to Du Yunxin halfway through the meal. “We missed today’s meeting, so we need to head out early. Let Xiao Chen know.”
“Okay,” Du Yunxin replied, immediately pulling out her phone to message Chen Yanxue.
Ming Ying swallowed a mouthful of rice and asked Fu Anyu, “Should I still go with you? I’m in human form now, and my hand is injured. I might slow you down at work.”
She was still unfamiliar with the outside world and worried that tagging along would distract Fu Anyu, who would have to look after her.
“You can stay home if you prefer,” Fu Anyu said. “Barring any surprises, I’ll be back at the usual time.”
Ming Ying actually wanted to go out and explore, but after hearing about Fu Anyu’s past, she felt an inexplicable sense of duty to guard the house. She also thought it might not be safe for Xiao Du, an ordinary person, to stay home alone. In the end, she decided to remain behind.
After arranging tomorrow’s schedule, Fu Anyu went upstairs early, planning to review the meeting materials sent by her secretary before resting.
Ming Ying, meanwhile, helped Du Yunxin with the cleanup.
She had never done this kind of work before, and with her right hand still injured, she could only use one hand. While trying to carry a bowl to the sink, she accidentally dropped and broke one because it was slippery. But Du Yunxin muttered, “Breaking things brings peace,” swept up the pieces, and allowed her to continue.
“Don’t be afraid, it’s not like our family can’t afford a new bowl,” Du Yunxin even encouraged her. “Though this isn’t exactly an essential life skill, if you want to practice, I’ll give you the chance.”
Ming Ying nodded in agreement.
Whether she could return home or not, she wanted to learn more life skills instead of always being taken care of.
Because of her injured hand, Ming Ying needed Fu Anyu’s help when she wanted to bathe.
Fu Anyu still used a damp towel to wipe her body. While cleaning her four tails, she noticed the little fox seemed uncomfortable and suggested, “Why don’t you keep just one tail? That way, I’d only need to wipe it once.”
Ming Ying obediently complied, though she merged the extra tails with the first one. In the end, only one tail remained, but it was so huge that two hands couldn’t even hold it.
Knowing that Ming Ying feared frequent use of the spirit control device would cause her fur to fall out, Fu Anyu didn’t say much. She wrapped the enormous fluffy tail in the damp towel and gently rubbed it.
After finishing her work documents, Fu Anyu had specifically looked up information about fox tails. Now, using a different technique to stroke the tail, she heard the little fox still whimpering from time to time, but it sounded much more natural than before, almost entirely out of enjoyment. Reassured, she continued giving the tail a massage.
“After I return from the meeting, I’ll get you a phone card,” Fu Anyu said after bathing the fox. “That way, you can sign up for social apps like WeChat and won’t feel lonely when you’re home alone.”
Ming Ying’s eyes lit up, and she wagged her tail, saying, “That sounds great!” The originally damp, droopy tail behind her shook into four dry, fluffy fox tails. “I also want to use that mini-program to learn more practical spells!”
Fu Anyu patted the fox’s head, carried her out of the bathroom, changed her dressing, and placed her on her own bed.
“If you’re worried the medicated oil might stain the sheets in your room, you can continue sleeping here with me for now,” she offered before Ming Ying could even ask.
Fu Anyu actually had a strong sense of territoriality, her bed was strictly off-limits to others. Back in university, a roommate who lost a game of Truth or Dare chose “dare” and climbed onto her bed, only to be scared off by Fu Anyu’s icy glare. From then on, no one in the dorm dared joke about her bed.
But she was more than happy to let the little fox sleep there, whether in fox form or human form. For some reason, she didn’t feel much aversion toward her.
Thinking about it, it made sense. She had already bathed her, stroked her tail, and faced this little fox who held no secrets from her, all she wanted was to protect her as much as possible.
Ming Ying, however, felt a bit uneasy. After transforming into her human form and changing into pajamas, she pleaded, “Then you can’t touch my tail while I’m asleep. If I wake up and fall back asleep afterward, I’ll… I’ll have strange dreams.”
Ming Ying was no stranger to having strange dreams related to Fu Anyu. Although she didn’t mind these peculiar dreams now, she feared that while sharing a bed with Fu Anyu, she might unintentionally drain Fu Anyu’s spiritual energy in her sleep.
Fu Anyu had to wake up early every day for work, how could she let her unintentional actions disrupt that?
“Without your permission, I won’t casually touch your tail,” Fu Anyu said instead.
Though she wasn’t entirely sure why the little fox had suddenly allowed her to touch its tail, Fu Anyu still considered the act of stroking a fox’s tail as somewhat improper.
She was a proper person. Unless they were in a confirmed romantic relationship, no matter how much she enjoyed touching the fox’s tail, she didn’t want to frequently do things that made Ming Ying uncomfortable.
