Wagging My Tail in the Ice Queen CEO’s Embrace - Chapter 3
Ming Ying let out a low growl at her in frustration, the little fox now resembling a lit firecracker, gnashing her teeth as she yapped wildly at the woman.
Who was acting cute?! She simply couldn’t speak!!
Seeing her sudden anger, the woman raised an eyebrow, picked up the phone nearby, propped it up with a simple stand, and played a video facing Ming Ying.
It was the first time Ming Ying had seen the front of this glowing panel artifact. There were people inside, and many voices could be heard, but she couldn’t tell who was speaking. Startled, she instinctively took half a step back. Only after realizing the artifact wouldn’t attack her did she cautiously lean in for a closer look.
In the glowing panel, she saw a white fox, filthy with mud and leaves clinging to half its body, limping along the road.
Many curious non-human residents observed the fox. Ming Ying heard someone express concern about whether the fox was injured, while another asked if they could catch it and send it to the zoo. Soon, a man stepped forward, approached the fox, crouched down, and reached out a hand to it.
Hearing the familiar “good girl” and “woof woof,” Ming Ying instantly recalled her experience when she first arrived here and immediately raised her paw to swipe.
Of course, she only managed to scratch the iron cage, but the next moment, she heard the man’s startled cry as if she had scratched him.
Then, she heard a female voice say, “After being scratched by the stray fox he was trying to rescue, this man was immediately taken to the hospital by passersby and has now received a rabies vaccine. The police are currently investigating the case of the white fox that went missing from the Central City Zoo. Citizens passing through the Central City area, please stay alert!”
Ming Ying was dumbfounded. Before she could react, the woman swiped the front of the glowing panel, and a new scene appeared before her eyes, it was her boarding the black moving steps!
Although the footage only showed her, she heard a male voice speaking rapidly: “The subway surveillance clearly captured a fox. The fox appears very fearful of humans. We can see a queue at the security checkpoint. The fox wandered around briefly before running off. It even seemed so panicked while getting on the escalator that it stumbled and fell…”
Ming Ying stared blankly at the image of herself tumbling over, and then the screen was covered by the woman’s hand, cutting off all sound abruptly.
“Yesterday, you severely disrupted public order and violated the basic regulations for demons residing in the human realm,” the woman said coldly. “Still pretending to be clueless?”
Meeting the woman’s stern gaze, Ming Ying felt a surge of grievance. She wanted to explain herself, but she couldn’t speak. Frustrated, she whimpered and repeatedly tapped her mouth and throat with her paw.
She wasn’t pretending to be clueless! She really couldn’t speak!!
After a bout of “gesticulating,” the woman finally grasped her meaning and reached a hand into the cage.
This time, Ming Ying didn’t swipe at her. Instead, she whimpered softly and allowed the woman to place her hand on her head. A moment later, she felt a chill on her head as spiritual energy entered her body, nourishing her meridians and internal organs before settling in her dantian.
However, the spiritual energy was of the water element, icy cold. As it circulated through her body, it made her sneeze, and she shivered, murmuring in a soft voice, “So cold…”
The woman paused at the sound of her gentle voice but quickly withdrew her hand, crossing her arms as she fixed Ming Ying with a cold stare. “Answer me. What’s your name?”
“Mi… Ming Ying…” Ming Ying caught sight of the scratch marks she had left on the woman’s hand and obediently answered in a hoarse voice, adding an explanation, “It’s the ‘Ying’ from ‘ornamental gems,’ not the one that means ‘whimpering’…”
“Mm.” The woman nodded, cutting her off. “Where do you live?”
“I-I live in the far west of the demon realm…” Ming Ying was so nervous she could barely speak, struggling to recall as she stammered, “I don’t know the exact location… I’ve never left home before… Waa…”
Mentioning home made her upset again, and as she spoke, she began to cry, sobbing as she confessed to the woman.
“I didn’t know this was the human realm! Earlier, I was being chased by a group of bad demons and fled into what they called the forbidden land. When I opened my eyes, I was here! My hind leg was injured by them too!”
“That man tried to grab me, so I scratched him, it wasn’t on purpose… Sob… I didn’t know he was trying to help me…”
“I’ve never seen humans before. When I first arrived, I thought they all wanted to hurt me. They followed me everywhere, and… and pointed this magical artifact of yours at me…”
“This is called a ‘phone’,” the woman suddenly explained. “A kind of communication tool, used for contacting others. It’s not a magical artifact.”
“This is a chicken?!” Ming Ying was utterly stunned, examining the phone repeatedly. “Why does the chicken in the human realm look… look like this?”
“…” The woman fell silent, placed the phone face down on the table, and asked quietly, “You’ve never even seen a phone before? Just where are you from, fox demon?”
Ming Ying blurted out without thinking, “I’m from Jiu—”
Before she could finish, she suddenly remembered that it was precisely because she had carelessly revealed her identity earlier that she had been hunted. So, she changed her words and made up a place name: “I’m a fox from Jiuli Mountain!”
Ming Ying was terrible at lying. After fabricating the story, she immediately turned her face away, not daring to meet the woman’s gaze, and asked softly, “I’ve answered everything, Can I eat now?”
She heard the woman chuckle lightly, and then saw two plates placed outside the iron cage being brought inside.
Ming Ying’s eyes instantly lit up. As soon as the plates were set down, she eagerly rushed over, biting into the now cooled fried egg and swallowing it in a few bites. Then she began chewing on the “square cake” layered beneath the egg, which emitted a faint wheat fragrance.
She ate so hastily that she choked, her eyes rolling back as she gulped down a fair amount of milk to wash it down.
So delicious! How could pastries in the human realm be made so exquisitely tasty? The milk was also richer and fresher than what she usually drank!
While devouring the food like a whirlwind, Ming Ying didn’t forget to secretly observe the woman’s actions.
To be honest, she had never let her guard down around this woman, especially since she had dreamed last night that the woman killed her.
This woman was too powerful. She could easily have killed Ming Ying but had only captured and confined her instead. Ming Ying couldn’t understand why and felt that the woman might have other plans.
After eating her fill, she thought for a moment and tentatively asked the woman, “Can you let me go? I want to go home.”
“Depends on your behavior,” the woman replied, glancing at her without elaborating.
“Then… will you kill me?” Ming Ying asked again.
“If you intentionally harm others, I will,” the woman answered calmly.
“I won’t harm anyone, I won’t!” Ming Ying, frightened by her gaze, hurriedly promised, “I’m a good fox! I don’t harm people!”
She firmly believed the woman’s words were true. When the woman had looked at her just now, she had clearly sensed killing intent.
The woman nodded, reached out, lifted Ming Ying from the iron cage, and set her on the ground.
“For now, you can only move around in this room,” the woman said. “If you’re hungry or thirsty, ring the bell. Someone will bring food in.”
Ming Ying stared blankly as the woman pushed an “upside-down bowl” with a red mechanism on top toward her. After pressing it twice, the bowl emitted a crisp, pleasant ringing sound.
“If you need to relieve yourself, go to the sandbox over there,” the woman said, pointing to the floor. “After you’re done, use your paws to cover the waste. Someone will clean it every morning.”
Ming Ying never expected that at her age, she would still be taught how to use the bathroom. Her face flushed with embarrassment, and she let out an awkward “Mm-hmm.”
After giving her instructions, the woman picked up the tray and left the room.
Once the woman was gone, Ming Ying, still favoring her injured leg, hobbled around the room to explore.
Despite the starkly different style, she immediately recognized it as a bedroom. However, the furnishings were sparse, the colors cold and muted, and there was no trace of incense, only the lingering scent of pinewood left by the “bad woman,” which made Ming Ying wrinkle her nose in distaste.
Why did she feel like she had been imprisoned by this bad woman? This place truly felt like a cell!
Having eaten her fill and rested well, Ming Ying felt much more energetic, and the pain in her hind leg had subsided. Realizing this, she began to survey her surroundings.
She had to take advantage of the bad woman’s absence and escape as soon as possible!
Ming Ying first noticed the curtain behind the desk. Using a stool, she slowly climbed onto the desk and approached the curtain, attempting to pull it aside with her paw.
Perhaps she used too much force, the curtain tore with a sharp rip, leaving a gash from her claws. But Ming Ying’s attention was entirely focused on the opening that appeared behind the curtain.
Apart from the curtain, there was nothing else blocking the opening, which seemed to lead directly outside. Light streamed through the hole, warming Ming Ying’s fur.
Excited, Ming Ying rushed toward the opening, only to crash into something hard, as if she had hit an invisible wall. The impact left her clutching her head in pain, and she lay on the desk for a long time, waiting for the stars in her vision to fade.
Refusing to give up, Ming Ying shifted her body and pressed against the invisible wall, pushing with all her might.
Through the wall, she could clearly see everything outside, people bustling about in the courtyard, but no matter how hard she pushed or rammed, the wall remained immovable, preventing her from passing through.
Could this be a barrier spell?!
Panting heavily, Ming Ying backed away from the transparent wall. With this thought in mind, she began patting and tapping the desk repeatedly scanning the room in an attempt to locate the formation that controlled the barrier.
The room was large but sparsely furnished. Aside from a large, black “brick” hanging on the wall, Ming Ying found nothing else out of the ordinary.
Staring at the giant black brick, Ming Ying suspected it might be the mechanism controlling the barrier. She hurriedly jumped off the desk and positioned herself beneath the smooth surface, raising her paw to reach it. Gathering the spiritual energy the woman had transferred to her, she pressed her paw against the black brick.
To her dismay, the spiritual energy refused to flow into the brick. Ming Ying held her paw up until it grew sore, but the brick showed no reaction.
She had no choice but to withdraw the little spiritual energy she had left and resumed wandering around the room. She rummaged through the clothing chest, crawled under the bed, and searched everywhere for a magical tool that might activate the black brick.
Ming Ying practically turned the entire room upside down. She even dug through the sandbox used for relieving herself, but found nothing.
Wracking her brains, she finally turned her gaze to the neatly made bed. Gathering her strength, she leaped onto it, sniffing and patting the quilt. Before long, she had pulled the neatly folded blankets into a messy heap.
While rummaging around, she suddenly felt her paw step on something hard. Immediately after, a sound erupted from behind her, not quiet at all, startling Ming Ying so much that all her fox fur stood on end. She lost her balance, tumbled off the bed, and landed on the smooth floor.
Hissing as she drew in sharp breaths, Ming Ying carefully shifted her injured leg out from under her body, all while tilting her head up to look at the black brick emitting the noise.
She heard the person inside the black brick say: “Yesterday, the press conference held by Shengwei Group at the downtown square concluded successfully. During the event, Ms. Fu Anyu once again emphasized the group’s development direction.”
At that moment, the black brick looked quite similar to the ones she had seen on the street, also containing several people inside. But Ming Ying had begun to suspect that this black brick wasn’t meant to hold people, it was probably similar to the “Shou Ji” the wicked woman had just shown her, merely capable of displaying past images.
Soon, Ming Ying saw a woman appear on the screen. Dressed in a form-fitting, narrow-sleeved top, with dark hair cascading over her shoulders, her expression was stern, her gaze sharp and cold. A green gourd hung around her neck as she sat upright at the center of a long table, facing a large, dark cattail-shaped object. Her thin lips parted slightly as she spoke in a calm, measured tone.
Ming Ying felt the woman’s voice sounded familiar, and her appearance and demeanor. Why did she look so much like that wicked woman who had captured her?!
