Wagging My Tail in the Ice Queen CEO’s Embrace - Chapter 28
The moment Ming Ying met Fu Anyu’s gaze, she instantly felt ashamed as a fox.
Fu Anyu had just finished meditating when she noticed the bathroom light was on. Even though she had mentally prepared herself before opening the door, the sight of the bathtub overflowing with bubbles still made her frown deeply.
“Is your nose bothering you?” she asked, scooping up her floating fox and placing her on the bathroom counter before turning on the faucet to adjust the water temperature.
“It is…” Ming Ying mumbled. Seeing that Fu Anyu had finished adjusting the temperature and was now filling the sink, she obediently slid into the basin and crouched down.
“Turn off the water yourself once it’s full,” Fu Anyu instructed before turning to deal with the bubbles in the bathtub.
As warm water poured over her, Ming Ying watched Fu Anyu pull the plug to drain the tub, then refill it to rinse off the suds clinging to the sides. A wave of guilt washed over her.
She had originally thought bathing herself would save Fu Anyu some trouble, but instead, she had only created more work for her.
Once most of the foam had been rinsed away, Fu Anyu lifted Ming Ying out of the sink. As she rinsed the remaining suds off the fox, she reminded her, “You need to control your strength, don’t squeeze out too much.”
Ming Ying gave a quiet acknowledgment. Feeling the gentle pressure of Fu Anyu scrubbing her fur, she added softly, “I’m sorry, I…”
“Until you’re familiar with your shampoo, don’t use it when I’m not around,” Fu Anyu cut her off.
Ming Ying opened her mouth to explain, but the next second, Fu Anyu poured a handful of water over her head, nearly causing her to swallow some of the suds. She couldn’t help but sputter and spit.
“Spitting won’t help,” Fu Anyu’s voice turned stern.
“I wasn’t spitting at you!” Ming Ying protested. “I was spitting out the milk bubbles!”
Even though the substance was called shampoo, Ming Ying still preferred to call it “milk foam.”
“Close your mouth first,” Fu Anyu said coldly.
Thinking Fu Anyu was scolding her, Ming Ying was about to flare up when more water poured over her head, making it impossible to keep her eyes open.
“Do you even know how to bathe a fox?!” Once the warm water stopped, Ming Ying shook her head in frustration, splashing water all over Fu Anyu.
Caught off guard, Fu Anyu’s hair and face were now dripping, and half of her freshly changed pajamas were soaked. Anger flickered in her eyes.
But seeing the little fox coughing and spitting water in the tub, she suppressed her irritation. She wet a towel, turned down the water, and silently continued washing the fox, careful to control her strength.
This bath left both the human and the fox in a sour mood.
When Ming Ying finally finished bathing, Fu Anyu was about to use her spiritual energy to dry her off as usual, but Ming Ying spoke up first: “You worked hard to gather that spiritual energy, you should save it. I’ll handle it myself.”
Ming Ying’s princess-like temper flared up quickly but faded just as fast. After calming down and seeing Fu Anyu’s damp pajamas and the water dripping from her hair, her guilt deepened. Without waiting for a response, she enveloped herself in a layer of spiritual energy and extended some toward Fu Anyu as well.
But before her energy could reach Fu Anyu, it was deflected.
“I don’t need it,” Fu Anyu’s voice was chillingly cold. She swept a hand over herself, drawing all the moisture into her palm, then did the same to the fox.
However, Ming Ying’s spiritual energy was primarily of the wood element. When Fu Anyu’s spiritual energy forcefully came into contact with it, for some unknown reason, several tender green sprouts of spiritual energy emerged from the snow-white fox fur and quickly grew to the length of a finger, swaying unsteadily under the influence of the water spiritual energy.
“…” Fu Anyu hadn’t expected sprouts to sprout from the fox’s body. Silently retracting her own spiritual energy, she casually plucked the newly grown spiritual sprouts.
Ming Ying felt a sudden pain on her back. Unable to see behind her, she thought Fu Anyu had angrily pulled out her fur in frustration, and her recently calmed anger flared up again.
“You don’t need it, fine, but why pull out my fur?!” She immediately arched her body toward Fu Anyu, her fox tail shooting out to wrap around Fu Anyu’s wrist, forcing her clenched hand open to search for her pulled fur. To her surprise, she instead saw a hint of green peeking out from between Fu Anyu’s fingers, wriggling as if struggling to break free.
“What is this?” Ming Ying asked in surprise.
“They grew from your body,” Fu Anyu replied. “Haven’t you seen this before?”
Ming Ying shook her head, releasing her tail from Fu Anyu’s wrist and instead burrowing into her palm, curiously examining the spiritual sprouts.
Fu Anyu felt her palm grow damp and itchy. The little fox had unhesitatingly placed her tail in her hand, leaving Fu Anyu both amused and exasperated. She casually picked up a cup, tossed the spiritual sprouts inside, and while the fox was observing them, used her spiritual energy to sweep over Ming Ying’s body.
Without Ming Ying’s control, the wood spiritual energy attached to her body was easily invaded by the water spiritual energy. By the time Ming Ying noticed the sprouts dissipating, her fur was almost completely dry.
“How did those sprouts appear earlier?” Ming Ying asked, still pondering the matter after being carried out of the bathroom by Fu Anyu.
“Water nurtures wood. It was likely an unintended side effect when our spiritual energies clashed,” Fu Anyu explained.
Ming Ying found it novel and pressed further, “Can they be cultivated?” I saw them dissipate on their own, was it because the wood spiritual energy was depleted?”
“You can try,” Fu Anyu said, rubbing the fox’s head before setting her down at the doorway. “It’s late now, go to sleep.”
Ming Ying took a few steps outside but couldn’t resist turning back. She crouched by the door and called out softly, “Fu Anyu.”
“What is it?” Fu Anyu asked.
“I didn’t mean to splash water on your face earlier, I…” Ming Ying stammered, carefully watching Fu Anyu’s expression as she spoke. “Actually, I have a terrible temper. Sometimes when my emotions flare up, I… I can’t really control myself.”
Her temper had always been bad since childhood. Her father often said she was spoiled by her mother, while her mother claimed she was indulged by her father. In any case, it was quite terrible, and by the time she realized it herself, her bad temper had already become ingrained. She had no idea how to change it.
Because of this, she had very few friends, as few clansmen could tolerate her temperament.
Receiving no response from Fu Anyu, Ming Ying grew anxious. She lowered her head and said solemnly, “I’m truly sorry.”
Perhaps because she treated Fu Anyu like a little sister, she cared deeply about Fu Anyu’s feelings and felt that, as the older one, she absolutely shouldn’t lose her temper over trivial matters.
After Ming Ying finished speaking, she heard Fu Anyu sigh softly, followed by the sound of footsteps approaching her.
Fu Anyu picked up the fox, carried her to the guest room bed, and gently patted her head before urging in a low voice, “Get some rest.”
But she didn’t say “it’s okay” or “I forgive you.”
Ming Ying knew she was angry. Hearing this, she obediently replied, “Goodnight,” and burrowed under the covers, watching as Fu Anyu closed the door and left.
Sleep eluded her once again, her mind racing with thoughts of what to do. Fu Anyu was the type to bottle things up; even when upset, she rarely showed it openly, instead internalizing her emotions to resolve them on her own, a habit that wasn’t good for her health.
Besides, Ming Ying hadn’t meant to upset Fu Anyu, nor had she expected the night to turn out this way.
Frustrated, she curled into a ball, thinking and thinking until she finally opened her tablet and searched for the book The Ice-Queen CEO’s Fierce Love.
She remembered there was a scene where the female lead coaxed the angry CEO.
Early the next morning, as soon as Fu Anyu stepped out of her room, she saw the little fox crouching by the door. On her head rested a pristine white jasmine flower, and each of her three tails held another jasmine blossom, laid out neatly behind her.
“Good morning, CEO-sama~” Ming Ying said in her softest voice upon seeing her. “These are your favorite jasmines, freshly picked from the branch. Please accept them.”
But Fu Anyu immediately furrowed her brow, a complex expression in her eyes as she crouched down and removed the jasmine flowers from the fox’s head and tails.
“Don’t just copy lines randomly,” she said, tapping the fox’s head with her fingertip, both annoyed and amused.
“Okay, CEO-sama~” Ming Ying nodded, watching as Fu Anyu stood up and headed downstairs with the jasmines before quickly following after her.
Within minutes, Fu Anyu began to suspect Ming Ying’s promise was just empty words.
Her suspicion was soon confirmed. From the moment she left her bedroom until she stepped out the front door, her ears were filled with the endless loop of “CEO-sama.”
Fu Anyu thought the fox either didn’t realize how embarrassing the title was, or… she was doing it on purpose to cheer her up.
Even though The Ice-Queen CEO’s Fierce Love had been discontinued for five years, she still remembered many of the interactions between the two leads clearly.
So, before leaving home, Fu Anyu leaned close to Ming Ying’s ear and said, “I’m not angry anymore.”
Ming Ying, who had been worrying whether her efforts were effective, was caught off guard by these words and asked eagerly, “Really?!”
Fu Anyu simply smiled faintly, ruffled the fur of the fox seeing her off, then stood up and left.
As soon as Fu Anyu was gone, Du Yunxin, who had long been unable to bear it, began clearing the table and asked Ming Ying wearily, “Have you been reading too many old-school melodramatic novels? How could you use such an embarrassing title for President Fu?!”
“What’s ‘old-school melodramatic’?” Ming Ying asked, confused.
“It’s…” Du Yunxin wasn’t sure how to explain it at first. After a moment’s thought, she said, “First, tell me where you learned the title ‘CEO-sama’.”
And so, she spent the entire morning being subjected to The Ice-Queen CEO’s Fierce Love.
After finishing the last chapter, Du Yunxin set the tablet down in front of the fox, closed her eyes to clear her mind, and finally said, “Fox Spirit-sama, I never would have guessed you’re into this kind of thing.”
“Can you tell me now, what ‘old-school melodramatic’ means?” Ming Ying asked.
“It’s a bit hard to explain. I’ll find you some similar stories so you can see for yourself.” After saying this, Du Yunxin was about to hand over the tablet to add some novels for her, but then she recalled the pained expression Fu Anyu had tried hard to conceal when leaving this morning. After hesitating for a moment, she instead added some world classics to the fox’s collection. “Never mind, President Fu definitely wouldn’t want you reading those kinds of stories. You should start with some great works written by humans to cultivate your mind first.”
“But Fu Anyu enjoys reading them herself,” Ming Ying insisted. “There’s even a manuscript of ‘The Ice-Queen CEO’s Fierce Love’ in the guest room!”
Du Yunxin: ???
Fox Immortal, do you even realize what you’re saying?!
