Until the Substitute Saintess is Loved: The Sister Sent to the Convent as the Villainess Heals Everyone's Hearts with Her Healing Powers - Chapter 35
Clutching the ring tightly, Lord Landrick declared in a resounding voice.
The hall stirred with murmurs, and Sister Lupina’s eyes flew wide open.
“You’re supposed to love me! I saved your life. Isn’t that right?!”
“It’s true you saved my life in the borderlands. But it wasn’t you who did it. It was Rosalina, right there!”
Lord Landrick turned sharply and looked straight at me.
This can’t be real?
With crisp, echoing footsteps, Lord Landrick approached me.
“I would never mistake the one I love. This engagement ring is for you. The one I love is Rosalina. Only you.”
He gently took my hand and slipped the ring onto my ring finger.
Is this a dream?
Lord Landrick… me?
Tears welled up in my eyes.
Did he notice?
Even though I’m just a substitute for Sister Lupina, inferior in every way.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t come to your rescue sooner.”
He pulled me close into a tight embrace.
Even though being exposed as a substitute means it’s all over, I’m so happy that I can’t bring myself to push Lord Landrick away.
“Hah, haha, Lord Landrick, please don’t say such foolish things. Today is the engagement ceremony of Lupina Iven and Landrick Lutoire. Isn’t that right?”
“No, that’s incorrect. This is the engagement ceremony between House Iven and the Royal House of Lutoire.”
Lord Landrick responded calmly to Sister Lupina’s strained voice.
Countess Iven, who had been observing the situation, reopened the invitation in her hand.
“Oh my, it truly says that here. How could this be…?”
As everyone stared at the trembling Countess, a splash of water echoed through the hall.
“Kyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!”
I turned at Sister Lupina’s following scream.
Sister Lupina, who had something poured over her head, covered her face with both hands and screamed.
“Pretty color, sparkly sparkly.”
It was the nun with light blue hair.
In her hand, she now held a small vial. Drip, drip—the green liquid that spilled from it emitted a foul odor even from a distance. What was in it?
“No, no! My face hurts, it burns!”
Sister Lupina’s shining silver hair was turning reddish-black in patches due to the liquid, and it was curling unnaturally. Her beautiful face was blistering and beginning to discolor to the same reddish-black hue.
(I-I have to heal her, no matter what!)
I tried to run to Sister Lupina, but Lord Landrick stopped me.
“Lord Landrick?”
“Don’t! It’s dangerous! We don’t know what kind of chemical that is.”
“But I have to help Sister!”
He tightened his grip on my arm, holding me back.
“It suits you so well. Hey, remember? There was so, so much blood.”
The light-blue-haired nun spoke in a sing-song voice. The castle guards restrained her and tore off her veil.
“Lady Camille Langweil…”
Lord Landrick’s face twisted in pity.
Even though she was being held down by knights, she smiled happily. She was speaking as if singing, but her words seemed to make no sense.
Taking advantage of Lord Landrick’s loosened grip, I rushed to Sister Lupina.
I cast healing magic on Sister, who was crouching in pain.
But it didn’t work properly.
“No, my face, my face! This can’t be!”
Sister Lupina screamed again at the reflection of her face in the polished marble floor.
(The healing isn’t working? No, it is working, but this is…)
The chemical that touched my fingertips brought pain to my fingers as well.
(It’s poison. This is poison. She’s mixed together every possible kind of herb.)
The foul odor contained scents I was familiar with.
They were the herbs I handled every day at the convent.
But no matter how effective the herbs are, if mixed together meaninglessly, they become poison, not medicine.
I can’t cure poison.
Even so, I continued to cast healing magic on the suffering Sister Lupina.
“No, n-no…!”
Had the poison reached her throat? Sister Lupina’s voice was hoarse and raspy, barely audible.
“Sister, please calm down! This is poison. Only you can heal poison. Please, calm yourself and cast healing magic on yourself.”
“Shut up! Everything, everything is your fault!”
She pushed me away with all her strength, and Lord Landrick caught me in his arms.
The knights of the castle restrained the thrashing Sister Lupina and escorted her out of the cathedral.
