Until the Substitute Saintess is Loved: The Sister Sent to the Convent as the Villainess Heals Everyone's Hearts with Her Healing Powers - Chapter 26
“Vetta. I’m counting on you to look after Lupina.”
At the entrance to the camping tent, Lord Landrick looked at me with concern.
“Leave it to me. I’ll set up a barrier, so I won’t let anyone lay a finger on Lady Lupina.”
“That’s reassuring.”
“Lord Landrick. Thank you for your consideration.”
“I’m sorry I can’t stay with you.”
Of course, Lord Landrick and I would be in separate tents. As royalty and of the opposite sex, there was no way he could share a tent with me.
(It’s fine, right…?)
When I recalled Lord Forthner’s behavior during the meal, anxiety welled up inside me. He seemed to think I had intentionally avoided treating the poison. Though I found it hard to believe, I couldn’t help wondering if he’d actually mixed poisonous mushrooms into his subordinate’s food just to confirm the rumors.
(It didn’t seem to be in anyone else’s food though…)
I couldn’t understand what Lord Forthner wanted. Was he simply determined to blame me for everything?
“Here, Lady Lupina. Sit here.”
“Um…”
Vetta beckoned to me. The cushion she patted with a gentle tap-tap looked quite luxurious.
When I sat down, it felt soft and comfortable, making me feel somewhat overwhelmed.
(Now that I think about it, the inside of this tent seems larger than it looks from outside, doesn’t it?)
The tent that had seemed just the right size for two people from outside actually contained beds and felt about as spacious as a moderately wealthy commoner’s room.
“You were in the middle of your meal earlier, right? I made some sandwiches with the leftover ingredients, so you should eat.”
She efficiently arranged the bread on a simple table and even brewed tea for me.
It was true I’d been interrupted during my meal, and I was feeling hungry, so I was grateful.
“Um, how does this work? The inside, I mean.”
“Ah, because it’s spacious? Is this your first time seeing spatial magic? We could make the exterior match the actual size, but then people would probably complain it’s too big for just two people, right? So, we made it look small from outside while expanding the space inside.”
“Royal Court Mages can do things like that?”
“No, it’s because I’m special. Here, drink your tea before it gets cold.”
Everything kept surprising me, but I obediently took a sip of the tea.
As the warm tea settled in my stomach, tears suddenly spilled from my eyes.
(Huh, why?)
Through my veil, I saw Vetta smiling with a troubled expression.
“You’ve been tense all day, haven’t you? You were subjected to such one-sided accusations. Your heart is completely exhausted. After you finish eating, make sure to get some proper rest.”
When she patted my head gently, the tears only flowed more freely.
The cheek that had been struck during the day no longer hurt, and Vetta had helped me during our walk.
The poison treatment had been completed successfully too – I hadn’t failed at anything.
Even though everyone was helping me, I’d been anxious all along.
After finishing my meal, I was overcome by intense drowsiness, and I fell asleep just as Vetta encouraged me to.
