Unconventional [Rebirth] - Chapter 52.2
Jiang Min lifted his head to steal a glance at Jiang Jianlin, but he remained silent.
In the background, Li Xiuzhi emerged from the bedroom drenched in sweat, dragging two heavy suitcases. Jiang Jianlin didn’t spare a single look at the master bedroom, which had been ransacked and left in a shambles by her. He simply kept his eyes down and said tonelessly, “Now that you’ve packed, leave.”
Li Xiuzhi froze. She stared at Jiang Jianlin for a long time, but ultimately, she couldn’t find a single word to say. She finally turned and walked out the door, followed by Li Tao, who had recently been untied from the floor.
Once the house was finally empty of outsiders, Jiang Jianlin turned to Jiang Min. The boy was still staring at his own hands, head bowed.
“Minmin,” Jiang Jianlin said softly. “Dad was wrong to treat you that way before. I promise you, I’m going to be a good father. Give me one more chance to prove it, okay?”
Jiang Min didn’t speak, nor did he shake his head. However, two heavy droplets of water suddenly splashed onto the floor. As the droplets multiplied, the crying Jiang Min had been desperately trying to suppress finally broke through, and he began to sob uncontrollably.
Jiang Jianlin let out a long sigh and pulled Jiang Min into a tight embrace. He was the boy’s father; he had to take responsibility. He had owed Jiang Min far too much in the past, and from now on, he was determined to make up for it twofold.
“Minmin, don’t you love playing on the computer? Come on! Dad’s taking you to buy one right now.” Jiang Jianlin suddenly lifted Jiang Min up, bouncing the boy in his arms.
Jiang Min was still a child, after all. A few words from his father were enough to lift his spirits. Hearing about the computer, he hesitated for a moment before giving a small, shy nod.
“But Dad, computers are really expensive. Maybe we shouldn’t…” Jiang Min whispered, a hint of worry in his voice.
Jiang Jianlin patted his head. “It’s fine. Your Dad still has that much money! In the future, if you want something, just tell me. If I think it’s appropriate, I’ll definitely get it for you.”
During his time working for that man named Wang, Jianlin had made a decent amount of money. While it wasn’t a massive fortune, it wasn’t his only source of income either. Fortunately, he’d had the foresight to open a separate bank account to save the “protection fees” he earned from debt collecting as a safety net. If he hadn’t, losing everything to Li Xiuzhi would have been a massive headache, even if he tried to act like he didn’t care.
With his father’s promise, Jiang Min took one last look at the house and the family portrait hanging in the living room. He then lowered his eyes and wrapped his arms tightly around Jiang Jianlin’s neck.
Jiang Rui was still holding Jiang Xi’s hand. At this point, Jiang Rui’s father intended to head home to settle some remaining affairs. Jiang Rui mentioned he had a few things of his own to attend to; after getting his father’s permission, he watched as his mother followed his father’s lead and departed first.
Jiang Jianheng (the second uncle) looked at his daughter, who clearly didn’t want to be near him, and then at his nephew standing nearby. A sentence stayed stuck in his throat for a long while before he finally summoned the courage to speak in a low voice.
“Um, Rui-rui… what else do you have to do?”
Jiang Rui turned back with a faint smile. That simple expression made Jiang Jianheng feel an immense pressure, as if he were facing his top superior at work. He swallowed hard as Jiang Rui gently patted Jiang Xi’s shoulder and addressed him.
“Second Uncle, I’d like to discuss something with you.”
Jiang Jianheng stared at his smiling nephew for a long time before stammering, “Right, right. Well… shall we go to the house?”
Jiang Rui shook his head. “Second Aunt is at home; it wouldn’t be appropriate. Let’s go somewhere else.”
