Unconventional [Rebirth] - Chapter 106
The previous day in the Hidden Realm, while Rong Jingtang had been a bit clumsy and impatient the first time, lasting only a few minutes, he had certainly lived up to the “seven times a night” cliché afterward, tossing and turning Jiang Rui until the following day.
At the time, Jiang Rui had wished more than anything that he could simply pass out like a normal person. Unfortunately, his body was in such peak condition that he could clearly feel every sensation. By the end, even the slightest touch from Rong Jingtang would send tremors through his entire frame.
When Jiang Rui opened his eyes, his hand instinctively moved to his lower abdomen, and he frowned.
In the end, he hadn’t been able to endure it and had practically begged Rong Jingtang to let him off. Though the man had stopped, he clearly wasn’t satisfied with the “count” and had turned to other ways to find fulfillment…
With a belly full of that…
Jiang Rui ground his teeth. With the simple motion of sitting up in bed, he felt a rush of fluid—there was no need to guess what it was. Fortunately, his constitution was different from that of an ordinary person; even with such an “accumulation” overnight, he wouldn’t fall ill.
After a hurried trip to clean himself up, Jiang Rui realized Rong Jingtang was nowhere to be found. His body was covered in purple and blue marks. He tried to use his powers to heal them, but for some reason, they wouldn’t fade.
He rolled his eyes, found a high-collared shirt to cover himself, and finally exited the Hidden Realm.
Outside, it was already noon the following day. Jiang Rui stood at the bedroom door for a moment before pushing it open. To his surprise, he was met with a scene of absolute domestic harmony.
Rong Jingtang and Uncle Cheng were sitting in the living room with Jiang Rui’s parents… playing Mahjong!
Jiang Rui ground his teeth again. He noticed Rong Jingtang immediately averted his gaze the moment they made eye contact. Forcing a smile onto his face, Jiang Rui walked over to his parents. “Dad, Mom.”
“Oh, Rui Rui, you’re up?” Jiang Rui’s mother didn’t even look up. She felt a tile, discarded another, and then looked at Jiang Rui’s father with a jubilant expression. The two of them were exchanging secret glances and winks, which Jiang Rui found both amusing and exasperating.
Jiang Rui decided to stay quiet and sat to the side to watch them play. Rong Jingtang was clearly “throwing” the game; whenever he saw what tiles Jiang Rui’s mother was discarding, he would change his own strategy to ensure she won.
Jiang Rui sighed. This man…
Once the game ended, his mother went to the kitchen to cook, still riding the high of her win. Although Jiang Rui didn’t come home often, the kitchen was well-stocked. However, his mother paused upon entering. Though the kitchen had every utensil and appliance one could need, any observant person could see it had never been used. Everything was brand new and sparkling.
She cast a strange look back at the living room. Rong Jingtang was busy tidying up the Mahjong set with a serious expression, while Jiang Rui was idly flipping through channels. She shook her head and sighed, thinking she was perhaps overthinking things.
After the meal—during which Rong Jingtang had accepted an invitation to stay—the elder man ate half a braised fish, making Jiang Rui’s mother beam with pride. Jiang Rui then remembered there was likely another finished fish sitting back at the Rong residence. He wondered if Uncle Cheng had disposed of it yet.
He rolled his eyes at the thought. I haven’t even finished lunch and I’m already thinking about lustful things. Truly…
Since his parents had decided to stay for a few days, and the school had granted Jiang Rui a “mental health break” as the victim of the Ye Wenbin incident, he found himself with absolutely nothing to do.
His cultivation had reached a bottleneck. While “Dual Cultivation” with Rong Jingtang helped, Jiang Rui decided to slow down the pace until his body was officially of age. If they “misfired” again and he exhausted his essence too early, it would be a headache to deal with later. Health and longevity, after all, start with maintenance in one’s youth.
Jiang Rui planned to take his parents sightseeing, but looking at his father’s expression, it seemed the man didn’t want him tagged along. Seeing his mother’s hesitant look, Jiang Rui suddenly realized: today was their wedding anniversary.
He blinked, noticing his mother’s bare hands. A pang of discomfort hit him, but seeing his father’s secretive behavior, he realized the man had plans. He made an excuse to leave and headed back to his own place.
Rong Jingtang had already departed. Finding no peace in the empty house, Jiang Rui decided to head back to Qing City.
Xiao Lunan was still in the hospital. Jiang Rui had given him spiritual spring water previously, but he couldn’t use it again so soon for fear the mortal body couldn’t handle the potency. For now, he just had to heal naturally.
Jiang Rui pulled up a chair by the bed. Seeing Xiao Lunan looking restless and bored out of his mind, he suddenly said, “Lunan, I have some news for you.”
Xiao Lunan was crunching on an apple slice, half-listening while watching a war drama on the television.
“Sister-in-law is pregnant,” Jiang Rui said, glancing at him. The idiot didn’t seem to register it at first.
“Oh. Well, you should send a gift or something. Hey, wait—which sister-in-law? I’ll go with you to visit,” Xiao Lunan said. He was so bored that even a social visit sounded exciting.
Jiang Rui’s lip twitched as he looked at Xiao Lunan’s thick eyebrows. He decided to mess with him. “Mo Zhao. She’s pregnant. About two or three months along.”
Xiao Lunan nodded along… then his head froze mid-nod. He turned his neck slowly, his expression becoming somewhat contorted. “Who… did… you… say?”
Jiang Rui flashed a bright, white-toothed grin. “Your wife, my sister-in-law. Mo Zhao.”
“Holy sh*t!” Xiao Lunan literally bounced off the bed. The IV pole was knocked over, the glass bottle shattering on the floor, and the needle was ripped from his hand. Blood began to spurt out.
Jiang Rui figured that if he could move like that, he probably wasn’t in much pain anymore. He sighed and caught Xiao Lunan just as he was about to bolt out the door. “What’s the rush? She’ll be here in a minute.”
Jiang Rui had already brought Mo Zhao back. Right now, she was likely downstairs getting an ultrasound. Mo Zhao had long since realized Jiang Rui wasn’t a normal human, so he hadn’t hidden the truth from her. When she heard Xiao Lunan was hurt, her eyes turned red, and she demanded Jiang Rui take her to him. Jiang Rui had no choice but to teleport her. The trip had slightly upset her “fetal qi,” but thankfully there were no major issues—otherwise, Xiao Lunan probably would have skinned him alive.
Before Xiao Lunan could react, the door was kicked open. Jiang Rui shrank his neck. He suddenly remembered that in his past life, when Mo Zhao died, even though she was ambushed and shot, she had fiercely taken several enemies down with her. He hadn’t seen it, but hearing the survivors talk about it with lingering fear allowed him to imagine her prowess.
Mo Zhao’s stomach was still flat, but she was carefully wearing flat shoes and loose clothing. She carried the medicine Jiang Rui had given her at all times. As she kicked the door open with a line of nurses behind her, Xiao Lunan was instantly cowed.
Forgetting all dignity, Xiao Lunan sat back on the bed, his hands placed neatly on his knees like a primary school student. He looked up at Mo Zhao with a pitiful, longing gaze. “Wifey…”
“Think you’re a big man now, do you?” Mo Zhao huffed. The nurses behind her immediately moved in to replace the IV, clean the blood, and re-insert the needle with practiced efficiency.
Jiang Rui rubbed his nose. Seeing Xiao Lunan’s “loyal dog” transformation, he looked for an exit. Noticing Mo Zhao’s red eyes, he gave Xiao Lunan a tiny kick, signaling him to comfort her.
Thankfully, Xiao Lunan was quick on the uptake and caught the hint.
Jiang Rui excused himself and followed the nurses out. He hadn’t walked far when he heard a blood-curdling scream from the room behind him. Expressionless, he rubbed the goosebumps on his arms and kept walking.
I should probably start preparing a big ‘red envelope’ (gift money) for the two of them. Based on his readings, Mo Zhao was carrying a girl—exactly what Xiao Lunan had hoped for.
Jiang Rui gave a genuine smile and wandered toward another ward to continue his business of “poking around.” He was bored, after all.
Next door was Xiao Wu’s room. Xiao Wu had likely heard the scream, but since Mo Zhao’s entrance had been so loud, no one dared to peek out. Jiang Rui silently lit a row of “candles” in his mind for Xiao Lunan—having a wife so authoritative that even your subordinates were terrified was either a blessing or a curse.
He pushed open the door to find his younger sister, Jiang Xi, focused on peeling an apple. A steaming bowl of tonic sat on the table. Jiang Xi’s parents likely knew she was at the hospital, but they had missed each other in the halls. Knowing the two families were close, Jiang Rui felt at ease.
However, something felt… off.
Jiang Rui leaned against the doorframe. He watched as Jiang Xi blew on a spoonful of porridge to cool it before moving it to Xiao Wu’s mouth. “Xiao Wu Ge-ge, open wide—’Ahhh’—”
Xiao Wu sat there with a goofy grin, opening his mouth wide.
Jiang Rui clicked his tongue and let out a soft huff before turning to leave.
Parents are showing affection at home, friends are showing affection in the hospital… what kind of day is it? Is the whole world full of couples and couples-to-be?
