Turns Out Seducing the Movie Queen Can Break the Plot - Chapter 64.2
“Not at all,” Wen Wen replied, blinking slowly as she took the hat from Jiang Chi’s hands, folded it neatly, and put it back in its place. “This was a gift for Chi Chi. I bought it because I knew it would look good on her.”
With that, she pulled Jiang Chi over to the bulletin board wall.
“This is Chi Chi and my mood board. Starting from 2013, I’ve recorded your mood almost every day. On days I couldn’t see you, I imagined it myself. Even during the year, I studied abroad, I didn’t miss a single day, I kept track of everything and added it here when I got back.”
As she spoke, Wen Wen casually picked up a card from the shelf and read its contents aloud: “November 13, 2022. Today, Cambridge feels especially cold. Actually, it probably isn’t that cold, Chi Chi. It’s just that I miss you so much. It’s been so long since you contacted me.”
Her voice cracked on the last few words. Wen Wen looked up, her eyes red-rimmed, and asked calmly across the nearly three-year gap, “Chi Chi, why didn’t you contact me? You used to have so much to say to me every day.”
I don’t know. She didn’t know either.
Jiang Chi’s mind was a mess.
She knew nothing.
Had she known Wen Wen for that long?
When had they met? How close had they been before?
Why didn’t she have a single memory of Wen Wen?
But the question that burned the most, if they had known each other for so long, if Wen Wen had liked her for so long, why had she chosen unrequited love? Why hadn’t she ever told her?
Staring at this room overflowing with love, Jiang Chi couldn’t even begin to imagine what Wen Wen had endured all these years.
And worst of all, even if it wasn’t intentional, it was still her Jiang Chi, who had hurt Wen Wen all over again.
In those first few days after they got together, Wen Wen must have thought her unrequited love had finally seen the light. But the reality was, Jiang Chi had kicked her back into the abyss of darkness.
And this time, the wound would cut even deeper than never having had her at all.
What could she do? What could she possibly do?
As if knowing she wouldn’t get an answer, Wen Wen lowered her head and answered herself, “I remember now. You were probably chasing after Su Jing back then. Of course you wouldn’t have had time for me.”
“I don’t blame you.”
Looking at the tears shimmering in those eyes, Jiang Chi wanted nothing more than to pull Wen Wen into a tight embrace. But she couldn’t! All she could do was scream silently in her heart:
Blame me, jiejie. Blame me, it would hurt less that way.
With deliberate indifference, Jiang Chi snatched the card from Wen Wen’s hand and tossed it back onto the shelf. “You don’t actually think telling me all this will make me fall to my knees in gratitude, do you? That I’ll thank you for loving me so much all this time?”
“Let me make it clear, I don’t. All this just proves you’re nothing but a narcissist who gets off on your own self-sacrificing drama.”
The next day, Wen Wen woke up on the sofa.
A throbbing headache from last night’s hangover pulsed through her skull. She pressed her Temple acupoints, waiting for the pain to subside slightly. In that moment, flashes of her outrageous behavior from the previous night flooded her mind. She abruptly stood up too quickly and a wave of dizziness washed over her. In that brief lapse, she caught a whiff of a strange odor permeating the living room.
Before she could process it, Jiang Chi emerged from the kitchen, carrying a bowl of something, his smile eerily identical to the one in the large portrait hanging in the room.
The bowl was placed on the table, a passable-looking serving of noodles topped with a slightly burnt fried egg.
Wen Wen froze, staring blankly at the bowl.
When she didn’t react, Jiang Chi sat on the sofa, tugged her hand to pull her down beside him, and said, “Stop spacing out, sis. I made you breakfast myself. Try it and tell me how it tastes.”
Like a robot following commands, Wen Wen picked up her chopsticks, lifted a strand of noodles, and put it in her mouth. The moment she did, her senses snapped back, the noodles were sweet.
“So? So? So?” Jiang Chi watched her eagerly. “After you said last time that cooking skills were a must for living together, I put in the effort to learn. But it turns out it’s not as easy as I thought.”
Unable to bring herself to expose the truth or crush his spirits, Wen Wen swallowed the sweet noodles and said, “There’s room for improvement, but for a first try, this is pretty good.”
“Really?” Jiang Chi’s eyes sparkled.
Wen Wen nodded.
“That’s great!” Jiang Chi wrapped his arms around her waist and hugged her tightly. “Sis, I’ve been thinking a lot since last night. I had no idea you loved me so much. And after reflecting on my own feelings, I realized I like you too. We can start over properly. What do you think?”
Wen Wen blinked twice, about to pinch her thigh in disbelief, but her hand was caught. Jiang Chi kissed the back of it and said, “Don’t hurt yourself, sis. This isn’t a dream, it’s real, and so am I.”
“Answer me, sis. Let’s start over, okay? Okay, okay, okay~?”
After a brief hesitation, Wen Wen replied, “Okay.”
“I love you the most, sis.” Jiang Chi hugged her, nuzzling against her as usual. “My mom’s birthday banquet is in three days. Come back with me, okay? I already told her last time that once things were stable, I’d bring you home to make it official. My family supports us being together. So come with me, alright?”
He gazed up at her, eyes brimming with anticipation.
When Wen Wen didn’t respond immediately, Jiang Chi shook her gently in his arms. “Sis, please? Come with me. Or were you lying to me last night?”
“No,” Wen Wen denied. “I’ll go with you.”
“Yay!” Jiang Chi rubbed his face against her shoulder enthusiastically. “You’re the best, sis.”
Jiang Chi’s words sounded perfect, but Wen Wen didn’t fully believe them. The contrast was too stark, it was as if he’d become a completely different person.
Yet over the next two days, Jiang Chi showed no signs of abnormality. He didn’t ask to go out alone, obediently staying at home. Every time she returned, he’d rush to greet her, and at night, he’d pull her into his arms to sleep.
Everything was as it should be, days as sweet as candy.
It was the kind of daily life she had always hoped to have after being with Jiang Chi.
On the day of Liu Ci’s birthday banquet, Wen Wen went to the company first to arrange her work for the day. During this time, Jiang Chi called her, saying he would head back early to help with the banquet preparations. Since Jiang Chi had been exceptionally well-behaved these past few days and even remembered to inform her before leaving early, Wen Wen had no objections and let him go ahead.
After finishing all her work, Wen Wen left the company, intending to go straight to the Jiang residence. Suddenly remembering something, she sent Jiang Chi a message: “Chi Chi, did you take the gift for Auntie with you?”
Jiang Chi replied quickly: “Nope, sweetheart. You’ll have to swing by home first.”
Wen Wen found the message slightly odd but didn’t dwell on it, driving back home instead.
Standing at her doorstep, her phone rang, it was the housekeeper. She didn’t answer, choosing to open the door directly. The housekeeper, seemingly hearing the ringtone, rushed out from the living room in a panic, exclaiming, “Miss Wen, it’s ruined!”
A terrible premonition surged within her.
“What’s ruined?”
“The, the room,” the housekeeper stammered. “The room is ruined.”
Without needing further explanation, Wen Wen knew exactly which room she meant.
Not even bothering to take off her shoes, Wen Wen immediately ran toward the room that had been her emotional sanctuary.
It had collapsed.
