Turns Out Seducing the Movie Queen Can Break the Plot - Chapter 55.2
Jiang Chi waved her off. “No need. I’ll be fine on my own. Get some rest.”
With that, she headed downstairs, grabbed her car keys, and sped off in her red sports car toward Wen Wen’s place.
Normally a half-hour drive, today she made it in just 15 minutes.
After ringing the doorbell several times and knocking on the door with no response, Jiang Chi had no choice but to accept the fact that Wen Wen hadn’t returned yet.
She messaged Jiang Miao again: Why aren’t you back yet?
Several minutes passed, no reply.
Jiang Chi: Where exactly are you? Are you drunk too? Send me your location, I’ll come pick you up.
Another few minutes went by still no response.
Jiang Chi tried calling directly this time via video. No one rejected or hung up, but no one answered either. The annoying ringtone played all the way to the last second.
Wen Wen was clearly heavily intoxicated. Where would she go to drink? What would she do afterward? Jiang Chi knew nothing. The receptionist had been right, she truly knew nothing about Wen Wen.
It shouldn’t be like this…
Suddenly remembering something, Jiang Chi immediately called the front desk of her family’s hotel, where she had first met Wen Wen.
The receptionist answered: “Miss Jiang, we’ve checked Miss Wen Wen didn’t stay at our hotel tonight.”
Hanging up, Jiang Chi slid down the door and sat on the floor, leaning her head back against it.
Since meeting Wen Wen, though it felt like they had spent a lot of time together, the places they had actually interacted could be counted on one hand, the Jiang family hotel, Wen Wen’s company, Wen Wen’s home, and during the show recording. It was pitifully few.
She had no idea where to even begin looking for Wen Wen.
Was Wen Wen clinging to Jiang Miao right now?
Was she feeling sick from drinking too much?
Jiejie, please don’t let Jiang Miao help you shower…
Jiang Chi’s mind swirled with disjointed thoughts, as if she were the one drunk.
Her phone, lying beside her, suddenly vibrated. Jiang Chi snapped back to attention and grabbed it but it wasn’t a reply from Jiang Miao, just some spam notification from an app.
Glancing at the messaging app, she opened it and sent Wen Wen a new friend request, carefully typing in the verification message:
Jiejie, I really didn’t accept Su Jing’s proposal. Please don’t be mad at me, okay?
Jiejie, I don’t like him either, not at all. Please don’t hate me, okay?
Jiejie, I didn’t mean to block you. I’m sorry. Please don’t be angry add me back, okay?
Each verification message was a new request. By the end, Jiang Chi could only type “Jiejie” over and over, stubbornly sending them until the system finally stopped her: “Too many friend requests. Please try again in 24 hours.”
She checked the time, 4 AM. The elevator remained silent.
5 AM, still no return.
6 AM, the first light of dawn crept into the hallway, but she was still alone.
7 AM, nothing.
8 AM, time for work.
Jiang Chi stood up from the floor, waiting for the numbness in her legs to fade, then headed downstairs and drove straight to the Wen Corporation building.
But she was stopped at the entrance. The security guard was firm: “Sorry, Miss Jiang. We have orders, we can’t let you upstairs.”
Jiang Chi pleaded, “Please, just inform President Wen for me. If she doesn’t want to see me, I’ll leave immediately, okay?”
The guard replied, “President Wen hasn’t come to work today.”
Jiang Chi froze. “She hasn’t arrived yet?”
No wonder Jiang Chi was shocked even the security guard was surprised. Wen Wen believed in leading by example and always arrived early, never cutting it close, let alone being late like now.
Security guard: “Yes.”
Jiang Chi: “Do you know where your President Wen went?”
The guard gave her a strange look and answered solemnly, “Miss Jiang, I’m just a security guard. I only handle what falls within my duties.”
Jiang Chi nodded and returned to her car, staring unblinkingly at the entrance.
By sunset, the figure she expected still hadn’t appeared. She got out a few times to ask, but the answer was always the same: President Wen hadn’t come to work.
Her phone remained silent too, no replies from Wen Wen or Jiang Miao.
Fortunately, the next day was the third and final recording of Heartbeat Summer, where Jiang Chi finally saw Wen Wen again.
Wen Wen seemed unchanged except for treating her like air. Everything else was normal.
Wen Wen even spared a glance at Su Jing, who, despite looking like a battered pighead, had mustered the willpower to attend the show. But she didn’t glance at Jiang Chi once.
Every attempt to talk was ignored. The moment Jiang Chi stepped closer, Wen Wen would subtly move away.
After a few rounds of this, Jiang Chi noticed something critical: the distance within which she could resist the plot’s control around Wen Wen had shrunk again.
Now, she could only stay within one meter of Wen Wen to avoid being controlled by the storyline.
Standing beside Su Jing, Jiang Chi thought bitterly would she ever earn Wen Wen’s forgiveness before she died?
Probably not. The person she loved had confessed to her nemesis, and that nemesis even bragged about rejecting the proposal. It was nothing short of twisting the knife.
How could that ever be forgiven?
This dating show’s theme was wilderness survival, where guests had to endure two days and nights in the mountains.
Before the official pairing, Director Xu mysteriously introduced a new guest.
Jiang Chi listened absentmindedly until she heard a familiar voice. Her head snapped up, it really was Jiang Miao, who waved at her warmly before her gaze finally settled on Wen Wen.
Jiang Chi also looked over. The woman in her line of sight showed a faint hint of surprise clearly, Wen Wen hadn’t known her best friend would join the show.
Jiang Miao introduced herself and naturally took her place beside Wen Wen.
The two whispered to each other now and then.
This time, the pairing method tested familiarity. The show would display five body parts of each guest, and the others would take turns guessing. The guest with the most correct guesses would automatically pair with the one they identified most accurately. If multiple guests guessed the same person, the chosen one would pick in return.
The images were shown publicly. When Jiang Chi saw her own photo appear before Wen Wen, she unconsciously held her breath.
She hoped Wen Wen would react as before angry, but not refusing to pair with her outright.
But this time, Wen Wen’s reaction went beyond mere anger.
She heard Wen Wen say about her photo: “Pass.”
She noticed Wen Wen said “pass” to everyone’s photos except Jiang Miao’s.
And Jiang Miao did the same only Wen Wen’s photo got a response; all others were passed.
Most importantly, they recognized each other perfectly not a single guess wrong.
They truly knew each other inside out.
After the selection was complete, Director Xu announced the results. Wen Wen and Jiang Miao had correctly guessed each other’s five photos, which should have locked them as a CP. However, Director Xu suddenly changed his tone: “Jiang Chi also correctly identified all five of Wen Wen’s photos. Since we originally planned for one group to have three members, how about you three form a group together, if Wen Wen and Jiang Miao agree?”
Before Wen Wen could speak, Jiang Miao smiled and said, “Sure, no problem for me. And if I’m okay with it, Wen Wen definitely will be too. She’s always indulged me.”
Director Xu then turned to Jiang Chi, “Jiang Chi, are you willing?”
Before she could react, a hand suddenly rested on her shoulder, pulling her to stand beside Wen Wen. The tension in her body dissipated instantly, and her initial refusal transformed into agreement: “I’m willing.”
The hand on her shoulder gave a reassuring pat as Jiang Miao’s bell-like laughter rang beside her ear: “That’s more like it. What matters most is that the three of us have a good time during the rest of the recording.”
The first task was to find tonight’s accommodation in other words, they had to climb a mountain.
But this mountain was very different from the one during their second recording. Here, the climate was primarily rainforest humid air, soft damp earth making the ascent possible only with safety ropes.
Wen Wen and Jiang Miao climbed effortlessly to the flat summit. Though the slope wasn’t particularly steep, Jiang Chi found the climb unexpectedly exhausting. When she finally reached the top, she saw Wen Wen and Jiang Miao sitting side by side on a rock atop a small hill.
Bathed in the sunset, the two chatted and laughed. In that moment, Jiang Chi suddenly remembered the last words her father had said to her that night.
“If you still can’t tell whether you truly like her, then ask yourself this: If she spends every day with someone else in the future, builds a happy family with them, can you accept that?”
Like the evening sunlight breaking through dark clouds, everything became clear in that instant.
The answer was obviously no.
She liked Wen Wen. She wanted Wen Wen by her side every single day in the future.
She started walking toward their silhouettes but failed to notice the loose rock beneath her feet. Suddenly losing her balance, she tumbled down the slope.
