Turns Out I’m the Villain They’re Supposed to Redeem? [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 7
Her expression was grim, startling Zhao Lan, who instinctively pulled Huo Yuwan back a step.
“I don’t understand what you’re talking about.”
Huo Yuwan frowned slightly as she looked at her.
“Qiuyuan, calm down first. There must be some misunderstanding.”
Huo Yuqing, who had jogged over, stood in front of her younger sister.
Earlier, the two had encountered the injured Qi Liang at the entrance to the sports field. His mouth was full of blood, and as soon as he saw Qi Qiuyuan, he started crying and complaining, saying Huo Yuwan had done this to him.
Upon hearing this, Qi Qiuyuan angrily rushed over to confront Huo Yuwan.
But Huo Yuqing didn’t believe her sister would intentionally hurt someone.
“You’re still defending her? Huo Yuqing, didn’t you see how badly my brother is injured?”
Glaring at her girlfriend, Qi Qiuyuan reached out and roughly pulled her aside.
Huo Yuwan quickly reached out to steady Huo Yuqing, who had almost fallen, then stepped forward to confront Qi Qiuyuan, her temper flaring.
“What does your brother’s injury have to do with me? Did I cause it? Who do you think you are, yelling at me like this?”
“You!”
Qi Qiuyuan’s chest heaved, her handsome face dark with anger.
She prided herself on having good upbringing and restraint, unable to act as unreasonably as Huo Yuwan.
“Qi Liang’s injury has nothing to do with Yuwan. He caused it himself.”
Zhao Lan, hiding behind them, couldn’t resist speaking up in Huo Yuwan’s defense.
Qi Qiuyuan was quite famous at Kaicheng University, not just for her looks and academic performance, but also for her numerous achievements in national track and field competitions.
Her modest and polite demeanor, combined with her explosive performance on the field, created a contrasting charm that won her many admirers at the university.
Zhao Lan had heard about her reputation since starting college and had even joined a fan club for Qi Qiuyuan organized by students for a while.
But she eventually found it boring and quit.
She never expected to encounter her up close like this today… her former admiration shattered completely.
Why lash out at others without knowing the full story?
“There were many people playing soccer at the time. If you don’t believe me, go ask them…”
Zhao Lan continued, enduring Qi Qiuyuan’s death glare.
“Everyone saw how Qi Liang fell. It had nothing to do with Yuwan.”
Her face dark, Qi Qiuyuan calmed her emotions and realized she had been deceived by Qi Liang’s one-sided account.
But her pride wouldn’t allow her to apologize to Huo Yuwan.
After staring silently at Huo Yuwan for another moment, she turned and left.
Huo Yuqing wanted to follow, but Huo Yuwan held her back.
“Sis, what kind of girlfriend is this? She can’t tell right from wrong and is so moody, nothing like what you described at home.”
Huo Yuqing had only told her family about her girlfriend after they had been dating for a year. Her parents simply expressed their support, saying it was normal for their grown child to be in a relationship.
Only the younger Huo Yuwan was curious, pestering her sister endlessly to find out what her girlfriend was like and whether she was worthy of her sister.
Huo Yuqing, worn down by the questions, had no choice but to tell the truth.
Good personality, good looks, good grades, good at sports, and good to her.
In short, in Huo Yuqing’s eyes, Qi Qiuyuan was perfect in every way.
But after recent interactions, Huo Yuwan felt that wasn’t the case.
Just in terms of personality, it’s all wrong, bad temper and narrow-minded.
” Qiuyuan is just too worried about her brother, that’s all…”
Huo Yuqing still wanted to defend her girlfriend.
“She has a brother, but you have a sister too.”
Huo Yuwan retorted unhappily.
When she was wronged, she never saw Huo Yuqing go yelling at Qi Liang.
“Yuwan, I didn’t mean…”
Realizing she had upset her sister again, Huo Yuqing grew anxious and tried to explain.
“Alright, alright. Anyway, we just don’t get along. I’ll steer clear of her from now on—if I can’t handle her, I’ll avoid her.”
After all, it was just her personal grudge. There were no signs of a rift between the couple yet, and Huo Yuwan didn’t want to put Huo Yuqing in a difficult position.
No matter what, she could tell Huo Yuqing still cared about her as a sister.
At most, she just wouldn’t choose Qi Qiuyuan as her mission target.
Huo Yuwan thought to herself.
After Huo Yuqing left, Huo Yuwan lost the mood to continue wandering around. She decided to head back to the dorm, wash up, and go to bed early to conserve energy for the next day’s sports meet.
“Um, Yuwan…”
Zhao Lan, who had been silent beside her, suddenly spoke up hesitantly.
“Is your sister really Qi Qiuyuan’s girlfriend?”
“Yeah, they’ve been together for almost three years now.”
Huo Yuwan replied casually.
“But… Qi Qiuyuan clearly said she was single.”
Zhao Lan remembered the message Qi Qiuyuan had personally posted in the fan group back then.
Her main focus was on track and field training, with no interest in romance.
…
The next day at the sports meet, Huo Yuwan wore a light blue short-sleeved top and shorts, her long hair tied into a high ponytail. Her slender, fair arms and legs were exposed, giving off a youthful and lively vibe.
Zhao Lan’s words from the previous night had stirred up a storm. After returning to the dorm, Huo Yuwan called her sister to ask about it.
After a long silence, Huo Yuqing confessed.
Qi Qiuyuan had to hide the fact that she was in a relationship at school due to family reasons.
Her parents were quite traditional and didn’t want her dating during college.
So only a small number of people knew about her relationship with Huo Yuqing.
Huo Yuwan nearly rolled her eyes upon hearing this.
What family reasons? It was just Qi Qiuyuan’s excuse.
If her parents were so traditional, why would they want to arrange an engagement between Qi Qiuyuan and Li Xuzhi?
Qi Qiuyuan had been lying all along, she never intended to stay with Huo Yuqing long-term.
…
Standing under the shade of the Law School’s rest area, Huo Yuwan stretched her limbs with a dark expression.
And here she was thinking yesterday that she’d avoid Qi Qiuyuan and endure it.
Someone like that didn’t deserve her sister at all.
They might as well break up sooner rather than later. Huo Yuwan was seething with anger.
Suddenly, she felt a tug on her foot. Snapping out of her thoughts, she looked down.
It was the little white fox, chewing on her shoelaces.
The anger in her brow faded as she bent down to pick it up, then glanced around.
Sure enough, not far away at the medical station, Li Xuzhi was smiling softly at her.
Carrying the little fox over, Huo Yuwan set it down on the ground.
“Dr. Li, long time no see.”
Her eyes and brows were filled with a smile, showing no trace of the anger from moments before.
“This little classmate even came to the school clinic looking for you yesterday.”
Dr. Liu, sitting beside Li Xuzhi, teased.
Last night was her shift, so she naturally remembered the disappointed look on Huo Yuwan’s face when she couldn’t find Dr. Li at the school clinic.
Huo Yuwan responded with an open, cheerful smile, while Li Xuzhi’s ears uncontrollably flushed red.
“We actually met yesterday, on the sports field,” she replied softly.
Frowning as she tried to recall, Huo Yuwan found she had no memory of it.
“You were playing soccer with friends at the time, and I saw you from a distance,” Li Xuzhi explained with a smile, her gaze fixed intently on Huo Yuwan’s thoughtful, furrowed brow. The tenderness in her eyes was like a pool of spring water.
The broadcast had already begun announcing the assembly of athletes for the next event, the shot put. Huo Yuwan glanced back and saw Zhao Lan waving at her from under the college’s sunshade.
“Little classmate, you signed up for the shot put?” Dr. Liu sounded surprised, assuming Huo Yuwan had been added by the class sports committee just to make up the numbers.
Huo Yuwan nodded. “Dr. Li, I should get going now…” Before she could finish, she saw Li Xuzhi stand up and walk over to her.
Pulling a pair of wrist guards from her white coat pocket, Li Xuzhi handed them over. The soft blue hue perfectly matched Huo Yuwan’s sportswear. “Wear these, so you don’t get hurt,” she said, taking Huo Yuwan’s wrist and carefully helping her put them on with gentle precision. “I bought them new yesterday and washed them once,” Li Xuzhi explained softly.
A faint, pleasant fragrance lingered in the air. As Huo Yuwan watched Dr. Li’s pale, delicate fingers, her mind inexplicably drifted back to their first meeting and that unexpected kiss. “Th-thank you, Dr. Li,” she stammered, her cheeks unusually flushed.
…
When it was her turn to throw, Huo Yuwan’s focus was still somewhat scattered. With a casual toss, she managed a mediocre result that barely qualified her for the next round. Even so, it was enough to surprise the onlooking students, as all the competitors before her were athletic scholarship students, she was the only non-professional to make it to the finals.
After finishing one event, Huo Yuwan was immediately pulled to another venue. The high jump came just as easily to her, and she cleared it effortlessly.
The next event was the 100-meter dash. Her friend Zhao Lan, noticing her distracted state, shook Huo Yuwan’s shoulders in frustration, trying to snap her out of it. Zhao Lan had already accepted the reality: Huo Yuwan must have been hiding her true abilities all along. She might just be one of those naturally gifted athletes.
“Huo Yuwan, wake up! You might run into Qi Qiuyuan in the next event, you need to focus!” Zhao Lan knew exactly how to push her buttons. After all, enemies ignite fury at first sight.
Sure enough, the dazed Huo Yuwan finally snapped to attention. “Isn’t she a long-distance runner? Why is she in the 100-meter dash?”
Zhao Lan chuckled. “Who knows? You’ll find out when you get on the track.”
Realizing she’d been tricked, Huo Yuwan smiled wryly but nonetheless sharpened her focus for the upcoming race.
…
“Congratulations to Huo Yuwan from the Law School for breaking the university’s sprint record!” The announcer’s voice boomed from the main platform, broadcasting the latest results from the sports meet.
In the just-concluded 100-meter dash, Huo Yuwan had taken first place in her heat and, even in the preliminaries, broken Kaicheng University’s two-year-old sprint record.
Accepting a towel from a classmate, Huo Yuwan thanked them and wiped the sweat from her forehead almost ceremoniously.
The 100-meter sprint wasn’t enough to tire her out much.
“Oh my god! Yuwan!”
Zhao Lan rushed over like a cannonball. She had dashed to the announcer’s platform the moment she heard the referee announce the results.
Sure enough, Huo Yuwan had set a new record for the 100-meter dash.
Pulling her friend into the shade of a tree, Zhao Lan gazed excitedly at Huo Yuwan, who was taking a sip of water to moisten her throat.
“I’ve got great news for you, you broke the record set by Qi Qiuyuan during her freshman year!”
This was the information Zhao Lan had gathered, and she assumed Huo Yuwan would be thrilled to hear it.
But to her surprise, Huo Yuwan only smiled faintly and said, “There’s still a long way to go.”
Qi Qiuyuan now focused on long-distance running, which required not only speed but also endurance.
Huo Yuwan wasn’t confident she could beat her in that event.
But she had to give it a try.
…
Just as Qi Qiuyuan stepped onto the field, she heard the announcement over the loudspeaker. She paused briefly, then continued walking calmly toward the medical station.
“Hey, wasn’t the previous record set by you in your freshman year? Talents keep emerging, it’s amazing how quickly it was broken,” her companion remarked with a light laugh.
“You said it, that was in my freshman year,” Qi Qiuyuan replied coolly, casting a sidelong glance.
Her progress over the past two years had been significant; there was no way Huo Yuwan could outrun her now.
“But that junior is also a freshman,” her companion pointed out with a smile.
It was precisely because they were both freshmen that the comparison held weight.
Narrowing her eyes slightly, Qi Qiuyuan curled her lips into a cold smile. “Find someone else to guide your training from now on. Coach Chen will only be responsible for me from here on out.”
With that, she turned and walked away.
The smile on her lips vanished completely, leaving only a sharp, unyielding expression.
“What?”
The girl who had been smiling moments ago stood frozen in place, staring in disbelief at Qi Qiuyuan’s retreating figure.
