- Turns Out I’m the Villain They’re Supposed to Redeem? [Quick Transmigration]
- Chapter 34 - Campus Arc * Finale
The black sedan sped along the highway. The airport was already in a remote location, and the scenery flying past outside the window grew even more desolate and barren.
Huo Yuwan had lost her composure. Her eyes red, she frantically kicked at the car door, while Qi Qiuyuan turned a blind eye to her actions, lounging in the driver’s seat with a carefree laugh.
She had nothing left now, only a pair of legs that could barely walk without limping. Huo Yuwan had destroyed her family.
So, even if Qi Qiuyuan were to die, she would drag them down with her.
The bomb installed under the car was counting down. Qi Qiuyuan lit a cigarette, silently counting the seconds in her heart.
Huo Yuwan, having failed in her attempts, had frost gathering in her eyes. She stared out the window at the increasingly remote surroundings, her lips pressed tightly together.
Qi Qiuyuan, who had been counting down to her own death, sensed something amiss. Frowning through the smoke, she turned her head.
But before she could see clearly, a powerful swipe sent her into unconsciousness, her eyes shutting as she blacked out.
A massive white fox now filled the entire car cabin, this was her original form at the peak of her magical power.
But under the current restrictions, it was merely an empty shell with no substance.
Huo Yuwan raised her head and swung her paw.
Swish!
The car window shattered instantly.
She flipped onto the roof, then carefully pried open the trunk with controlled strength. Li Xuzhi was bound and unconscious inside, a knife wound on her abdomen steadily bleeding.
Huo Yuwan’s mind went blank. Gently, she used her tail to lift Li Xuzhi onto her back. Upon detecting the faint heartbeat, she leaped from the car and raced across the ground.
At the same time, her tail flung the unconscious Qi Qiuyuan from the car, sending her crashing through the air before she slammed onto the ground.
Boom. Boom.
Two sounds echoed simultaneously.
Though Qi Qiuyuan avoided the car’s explosion, the spreading flames still engulfed her. Unable to move, she could only watch helplessly as the fire slowly consumed her legs.
The white fox didn’t pause for even a moment, lowering its body as it sprinted forward.
Its long, thick white fur was tousled by the wind, while warm blood continued to trickle down its back. Li Xuzhi, lying on the fox’s back, trembled slightly.
“Give all the magic back to me!”
Huo Yuwan couldn’t help but roar.
The fox spirit knew she was speaking to it but could only shake its head in regret.
Every time it lent Huo Yuwan magic, there were limits, only enough for transformation, nothing more.
“My lady, I truly cannot,” it lamented silently. The high priest had granted it only so much authority.
Li Xuzhi’s breathing grew weaker and weaker. With such prolonged blood loss, the fox spirit believed there was no saving her.
“Yuwan…”
Li Xuzhi murmured unconsciously on its back, her voice frail.
Huo Yuwan’s body stiffened. Struggling to look back, she kept racing toward the hospital.
The fox spirit shook its head slowly, unable to bear watching any longer.
Boom.
The last of the magic was exhausted. Huo Yuwan landed clumsily, forced back into her human form, clutching Li Xuzhi tightly in her arms.
“Yuwan…”
Li Xuzhi slowly raised her hand, wanting to touch Huo Yuwan’s face. Her complexion was pale, her strength fading away.
In the afternoon, Qi Qiuyuan lay in ambush in the hospital parking lot, intending to first kidnap Li Xuzhi and then use the information on her phone to track down Huo Yuwan.
The kidnapped Li Xuzhi guessed her intentions, but being physically frail, she was no match for Qi Qiuyuan. She could only clutch her phone tightly and attempt to cry out for help.
Enraged by her resistance and already resolved to perish together, Qi Qiuyuan stabbed Li Xuzhi without hesitation. Then, deciding to go all the way, she hid her in the trunk and continued her search for Huo Yuwan.
“Sister, hold on! I’ll take you to the hospital!”
Her arms trembling, Huo Yuwan tried to lift Li Xuzhi from the ground.
“You mustn’t… forget me…” Sensing she wouldn’t last much longer, Li Xuzhi slowly shook her head, blood trickling from the corner of her mouth.
“I won’t, I won’t!”
Kneeling on the ground, her legs giving way, Huo Yuwan’s tears fell in heavy drops.
Simultaneously, she pleaded desperately and helplessly with the fox spirit in her heart.
“Give my powers back to me, I beg you…”
The fox spirit in her mind remained silent.
Clutching the wound on Li Xuzhi’s abdomen tightly, Huo Yuwan couldn’t stop the relentless flow of blood.
Li Xuzhi’s clothes were soaked through with blood, her brows furrowed in pain, her breathing growing fainter.
“I want… to be with you forever… Yuwan…”
A faint smile graced her lips, as gentle as when they first met.
But after uttering these words, Li Xuzhi’s eyes never opened again.
Gazing at her pale, delicate face and the extensive bloodstains, Huo Yuwan’s body trembled uncontrollably.
Holding the person in her arms tightly, tears streamed silently from her reddened eyes.
“I’m sorry, my lady, there’s truly nothing I can do.”
The fox spirit, moved by the desperate pleas of the influential young priestess, was powerless to help.
As Li Xuzhi’s body temperature gradually faded, Huo Yuwan gritted her teeth, her eyes gradually turning crimson.
Tilting her head back, she let out a guttural roar, red veins emerging on her neck as waves of white light surged from her body.
The faint silhouette of a white fox trembled within her.
At the same time, the two merged souls began to separate once more.
“My lady!”
The fox spirit, discerning her intent, trembled and tried to stop Huo Yuwan.
As one soul shattered, a golden elixir slowly emerged from within her.
Pressing her lips together, Huo Yuwan used the remnants of magic from the shattered soul to infuse the golden elixir into Li Xuzhi’s body.
Witnessing this, the fox spirit hesitated to speak, yet felt a sense of confusion.
Shattering a soul should have left Huo Yuwan severely wounded in both form and spirit, yet she remained unscathed.
Unbeknownst to it, Huo Yuwan had also gained a new memory in that moment.
…
Winter in Kaicheng was always exceptionally cold.
Huo Yuwan’s law firm had opened a branch domestically, located in Kaicheng. Within the elite legal circle, her reputation now rivaled that of Wen Jinyuan.
In private, Professor Wen often mentioned her in lectures to inspire students.
Over the past two months, Huo Yuwan had handled every case she took on with swift and decisive action, often leaving opposing counsel speechless and cornered in the courtroom. As a result, business professionals across Kaicheng were eager to entrust their legal matters to her, but she declined every request.
During the two months of Li Xuzhi’s recovery, Huo Yuwan had not left the hospital after wrapping up her previously accepted cases.
When Li Xuzhi awoke, two months had passed since the incident. The first thing she saw upon opening her eyes was Huo Yuwan lying beside her pillow.
Huo Yuwan looked weary, her lips pale, with heavy dark circles under her eyes.
Li Xuzhi’s heart ached at the sight, and she pressed her lips together, smiling softly. But as she smiled, tears welled up in her eyes.
How did you let yourself end up like this?
Gently stroking Huo Yuwan’s brow with her thumb, Li Xuzhi felt Huo Yuwan tremble slightly before her eyes fluttered open.
“Yuwan,” Li Xuzhi called softly, her voice still weak.
Huo Yuwan stared at her, her eyes growing warm before tears began to fall uncontrollably.
“You’re finally awake, Sister…”
She held Li Xuzhi tightly, yet carefully, afraid of touching her wounds, her movements hesitant and uncertain.
There was no trace of the decisive lawyer from the courtroom in her demeanor.
“Are you uncomfortable anywhere? Does it still hurt? Are you hungry? Thirsty? I’ll call the doctor…”
Overwhelmed with joy and panic, Huo Yuwan held Li Xuzhi’s hand, showering her with questions, then quickly pressed the call button by the bed.
Although the golden core could heal Li Xuzhi’s body, her injuries were severe, and as a mortal, her recovery was slow. For two months, Huo Yuwan had feared that even her golden core wouldn’t be enough to save Li Xuzhi’s life.
Shaking her head gently, Li Xuzhi wiped the tears from Huo Yuwan’s face with her thumb.
Huo Yuwan’s nose stung again, and she bit her lip, holding back the moisture in her eyes.
“It’s my fault for not protecting you, for not handling the aftermath properly, for letting you get hurt…”
Li Xuzhi pulled her into an embrace. “Silly, how could it be your fault? You’re a lawyer fighting for justice for the people, and you’re my hero.”
She only regretted that she lacked the power to help and protect Huo Yuwan.
Hearing this, Huo Yuwan felt like crying again. She had almost lost Li Xuzhi, how could she be called a hero?
Burying her face in Li Xuzhi’s shoulder, she didn’t want her to see the tears welling up once more.
“What happened to Qi Qiuyuan?”
After the doctor finished the examination, Li Xuzhi asked softly.
Huo Yuwan pursed her lips, her gaze turning cold and fierce as she spoke of her.
“She was sentenced to life imprisonment for kidnapping and intentional assault. Moreover, the car explosion caused such severe damage to her legs that they’ll require extensive amputation…”
“It’s uncertain whether she’ll even survive the surgery.”
With no money, her father imprisoned, and her mother driven to insanity, Qi Qiuyuan remained confined to the hospital, barely clinging to life as she waited a suitable time for surgery.
She endured excruciating pain daily, with no access to anesthesia, and was under 24-hour surveillance, unable even to attempt suicide by biting her tongue.
As for when the “suitable time” for surgery would be, that remained uncertain.
Li Xuzhi’s expression was hesitant; she knew Huo Yuwan must have intervened.
“Don’t think about these things anymore. Right now, your most important task is to focus on recovering. I’m looking forward to designing our wedding together with you.”
Huo Yuwan gently kissed her forehead. Seeing Li Xuzhi lower her gaze with a soft smile at the mention of the wedding, she tenderly pulled her into an embrace.
During the time Li Xuzhi was unconscious, Huo Yuwan had lived in constant fear, terrified that even her utmost efforts wouldn’t be enough to save her.
A month after Li Xuzhi was discharged from the hospital, Huo’s mother and Li’s mother jointly selected an auspicious date for the wedding.
Since Li Xuzhi preferred tranquility, Huo Yuwan spared no expense in booking a private island for the ceremony. Upon learning this, Li Xuzhi could only shake her head with a helpless smile.
The wedding dress had been chosen long before, elegant and exquisite, meticulously handcrafted.
The island, blessed with eternal spring, was adorned with a romantic and lively atmosphere.
The wedding itself was an intimate affair, attended only by close family and a few dear old friends.
During the toast, Zhao Lan stood up from her seat and teased Huo Yuwan playfully, “I’ve always had a keen eye. I could tell back in our freshman year that you had a secret crush on Dr. Li.”
Under Li Xuzhi’s gentle, smiling gaze, Huo Yuwan felt a little shy but admitted openly, “Yes, I’ve been scheming for my sister for a long time.”
When teased into drinking the ceremonial cross-cup wine, Li Xuzhi looked at Huo Yuwan, whose eyes crinkled with joy as she raised her glass, and then smiled softly as they drank together.
In truth, the one who had been scheming all along was her.
Fortunately, her wish had been fulfilled.
…
That evening, when they returned to their room, Huo Yuwan’s cheeks were flushed. Breaking her usual rule of not drinking, she had indulged in a few extra glasses out of sheer happiness.
Li Xuzhi helped her settle onto the sofa, shaking her head in amusement. So much for never drinking, this little one was clearly a lightweight.
As Li Xuzhi reached to make some honey water to soothe Huo Yuwan’s tipsiness, the latter clung to her, refusing to let go.
“Sister… sister…”
Huo Yuwan nuzzled her face into the crook of Li Xuzhi’s neck, her warm breath tingling against the skin, which soon flushed a delicate pink.
“I love you, Li Xuzhi.”
Lifting her head, Huo Yuwan gazed at her with tender eyes and whispered the words.
Before Li Xuzhi could respond, Huo Yuwan captured her lips in a deep, lingering kiss.
Their breaths mingled until Li Xuzhi lay panting softly beneath her on the sofa. Huo Yuwan pulled back slightly, planting light kisses along her jawline, one hand already moving to the zipper at her back.
“I… I love you too, Yuwan…”
Li Xuzhi breathed out the words between soft gasps, just before her lips were claimed once more.
…
Not long after their marriage, Li Xuzhi applied to a graduate program at an art school abroad. Huo Yuwan followed without hesitation, after all, she had branches of her firm in both countries, so working from anywhere was no issue.
The two often traveled the world together, blending Li Xuzhi’s artistic inspiration trips with their romantic getaways.
Huo Yuwan and Li Xuzhi spent their entire lives side by side, sharing a joyful and fulfilling existence.
…
When Huo Yuwan awoke again, she found herself back in the cherry blossom grove of the Fox Clan.
Without lingering, she transformed into a streak of white light and vanished once more.
Someone was still waiting for her.
