Turns Out I’m the Villain They’re Supposed to Redeem? [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 13
“As long as Sister Xuzhi agrees, I can personally persuade Uncle on her behalf.”
Qi Qiuyuan knew that Father Li had no reason to refuse, it only required Li Xuzhi to delay her hospital entry by half a year, and it would also promote the marital alliance between the Qi and Li families.
Under her gaze filled with hope and encouragement, Li Xuzhi slowly shook her head, her voice gentle yet resolute.
“Thank you for considering me, but I’ve already made up my mind. I have no plans to go abroad for now.”
Turning to look at Li Xuzhi’s face, Huo Yuwan felt a pang of discomfort in her heart.
Qi Qiuyuan hadn’t expected Li Xuzhi to still choose refusal.
It seemed the person she loved held considerable weight in Li Xuzhi’s heart, enough for her to willingly give up the paintbrush she once cherished so dearly.
Stepping out of the room, Qi Qiuyuan glanced back at the tightly shut door, her eyes cold and sharp.
The more unattainable something was, the more she desired to possess it.
…
Perhaps the spell was gradually taking effect. After replying to the message, Li Xuzhi’s eyes slowly closed as she lay on her side under the covers, her breathing gradually steadying.
Huo Yuwan lowered her gaze to watch her sleeping face, her heartbeat unconsciously faltering once again.
After a good sleep, the injury on her forehead should heal completely.
Taking one last glance back, Huo Yuwan leaped lightly, her figure vanishing from the Li residence.
She was going to the Qi family to secretly photograph the emails.
Breaking up was one thing, but she absolutely couldn’t let her sister mistakenly believe the reason for the breakup lay with herself.
…
The Qi residence was right next door. As soon as Huo Yuwan stepped out of the courtyard, she spotted Qi Qiuyuan on the path outside.
She had just left the Li family, holding her phone as if she were talking to someone.
Huo Yuwan slipped into the grass beside the path, crouching low to eavesdrop on the conversation.
“There’s no need to meet, Huo Yuqing. We’re over.”
“You were the one who didn’t value this relationship, choosing to abandon our love for the sake of your studies.”
“Goodbye, let’s leave it at that.”
After hanging up, Qi Qiuyuan’s face remained utterly calm, showing not a trace of sorrow.
Having witnessed the entire exchange, Huo Yuwan frowned deeply.
Moving quietly, she followed Qi Qiuyuan all the way into the Qi family’s courtyard.
Some servants were cleaning in the yard. Qi Qiuyuan went upstairs, while Huo Yuwan lingered in the first-floor grass, circling around.
Soon, she spotted Qi Qiuyuan by a window on the third floor.
Her eyes darting around, Huo Yuwan nimbly leaped onto a second-floor balcony, then sidestepped to the room next to where Qi Qiuyuan was standing.
This seemed to be a study. Huo Yuwan noticed numerous trophies on the bookshelves before hopping onto the desk and tentatively opening the computer.
What a stroke of luck, it really was Qi Qiuyuan’s study.
Seeing the logged-in account in the lower right corner of the screen, Huo Yuwan’s little paws flew across the keyboard.
Today, she was determined to expose this scoundrel’s true colors.
Searching through the mailbox, Huo Yuwan quickly found an email from the Australian Athletics Committee.
It congratulated Qi Qiuyuan on passing the selection and notified her to report for training in Australia next semester.
Huo Yuwan stared fixedly at the email’s sent date.
March 5th.
The date was a month ago.
Without hesitation, she forwarded the email to Huo Yuqing, then closed the mailbox and prepared to leave.
She absolutely couldn’t let her second sister mistakenly believe the breakup was her fault.
Who knew if Huo Yuqing, who liked Qi Qiuyuan so much, would fall into self-blame over this and be unable to move on?
What if it affected her performance in the upcoming English competition, or worse, she foolishly gave up on attending the Foreign Affairs College? That would be a case of losing the big for the small, dragging her right back to the original plotline.
Beep.
A chat window suddenly popped up on the computer screen. Huo Yuwan had no intention of paying it any attention, but a casual glance at the content made her frown.
The message was from someone named Ding Sheng.
“I’ve already persuaded Li Yu to withdraw from the school team on the grounds of using stimulants. You don’t have to worry about her spreading rumors in front of Coach Chen anymore.”
Ding Sheng?
Huo Yuwan frowned in thought. Wasn’t that the coach who had urged her to join the school team during the sports day?
“Where did this wild fox come from?”
The study door was suddenly pushed open, and Qi Qiuyuan strode in with a frown, quickly approaching.
Snapping out of her thoughts, Huo Yuwan had no time to ponder further. She leaped into action, leaving several scratch marks on Qi Qiuyuan’s neck.
“You’re asking for death!”
One hand clutching the scratches on his neck, Qi Qiuyuan grabbed Huo Yuwan by the tail and then tightly squeezed her neck, refusing to let go.
He recognized her, this was the same fox that had bared its teeth and threatened him earlier at the Li family.
“Animals will always be animals, untamable and wild.”
Watching the fox struggle frantically in his grasp, already starting to roll its eyes from lack of air, Qi Qiuyuan let out a satisfied chuckle.
Huo Yuwan was cursing the fox spirit to death in her mind.
Couldn’t it lend her a bit more spiritual power?
Now, even though her mind was sharp enough to jump away, her body lagged behind, and she got caught.
Dragged all the way to the doorway, Qi Qiuyuan stood at the top of the stairs and called out to the servants downstairs, “Hey, you lot, catch this beast. I’m having fox meat for dinner tonight.”
The servants downstairs exchanged uneasy glances, but obliged by Qi Qiuyuan’s command, they stretched out their arms, ready to catch the white fox.
From three stories up, if they failed to catch it, the fox would either die or be severely injured.
Sneering coldly, Qi Qiuyuan glanced down at the white fox, which was gasping for air but unable to exhale, then gritted his teeth and hurled it downward.
“You’re the real beast!”
Growling in fox language from her throat, Huo Yuwan instantly pushed off his arm and leaped away.
The fox spirit, having been cursed at again, promptly replenished her spiritual power.
Angrily kicking Qi Qiuyuan in the face, Huo Yuwan bounced away a few times, slid down the stair railing, and, in the process, knocked over several expensive-looking porcelain vases displayed in the living room.
The sound of shattering porcelain made Qi Qiuyuan’s temples throb.
These were all collected by his father from around the world.
“What are you standing around for? Catch it and bring it back to me!”
“Contact the guards and the property management, we must capture that fox!”
One hand covering his scratched eyelid, Qi Qiuyuan lost all composure, roaring as he rushed downstairs.
Sprinting all the way out of the residential area, Huo Yuwan crouched in the bushes and resumed her human form.
Picking up her backpack from the ground, she coughed lightly and used her phone’s front camera to check her neck.
A ring of bluish-purple marks encircled her fair neck, looking terrifying.
Huo Yuwan coughed again, rubbing the area, then untied the decorative silk tie from her shirt.
Hastily wrapping it around her neck, she checked the camera again.
At least it covered most of the marks, making the injuries less noticeable.
The noise outside was overwhelming, waking Li Xuzhi from her sleep. She slowly sat up and realized that the white fox brought back by the kitten was gone, leaving only the kitten curled up at the foot of her bed, fast asleep.
Moving quietly, she got out of bed and went to the bathroom to wash her face with cold water.
As her gaze fell on the mirror, she paused for a moment.
Her soft, pale fingers touched the injured corner of her forehead, and she gently prodded the wound in confusion.
Was it just her imagination, or did the wound no longer hurt?
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Li Xuzhi snapped out of her thoughts and turned to answer it.
“Xuzhi, sorry to bother you.”
It was Qi Qiuyuan. Her neck and right eye were already bandaged, and as soon as the door opened, she instinctively glanced inside.
“What’s wrong?” Li Xuzhi asked, puzzled.
“That big white fox that was in your room earlier went wild and ran into my house. It not only scratched me but also destroyed a lot of my belongings.”
After scanning the room and finding nothing, Qi Qiuyuan’s eyes held a trace of resentment, though she maintained a gentle smile on her face.
“It’s a friend that the kitten brought back…” Li Xuzhi instinctively began to explain. It had seemed so tame before.
“After all, it’s still just an animal.”
Qi Qiuyuan glanced once more at the small fox sleeping soundly on the bed, her expression darkening before she turned and left.
Li Xuzhi remained where she stood, frowning as she watched her retreating figure.
Foxes are intelligent creatures; they don’t harm people without reason.
…
The car she had called hadn’t arrived yet, so Huo Yuwan walked slowly along the roadside, checking her phone for any nearby pharmacies.
The fox spirit was notoriously stingy, so Huo Yuwan dismissed the idea of using spiritual energy to heal her wounds.
“Yuwan?”
A taxi suddenly pulled over by the curb. Huo Yuwan looked up and saw a head poking out of the rear window, staring at her.
It was Huo Yuqing.
She pushed the car door open and stepped out. As she approached, Huo Yuwan noticed her swollen, red eyes and the tear stains still visible on her face.
Why cry over someone like Qi Qiuyuan?
Huo Yuwan sighed inwardly, already aware of their breakup.
“Sis, why have you been crying?”
Though she knew the whole story, Huo Yuwan pretended to be completely in the dark.
“It’s nothing. What are you doing here?”
“I came… to hang out with a friend.”
She lied without batting an eye.
Huo Yuqing didn’t seem too concerned with her response. She fell silent, her gaze drifting despondently toward the nearby villa area.
Her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts.
At noon, Qi Qiuyuan had finally answered her call. Thinking her anger had subsided, Huo Yuqing shared the decision she had been agonizing over for days.
She still wanted to pursue her master’s degree at the Foreign Affairs College.
The distance between the two cities wasn’t too far. Huo Yuqing had carefully considered it and even planned to make the round trip every two weeks.
As long as Qi Qiuyuan supported her, she felt she could handle anything.
But to her surprise, Qi Qiuyuan flew into a rage upon hearing this, refusing to give her another chance and breaking up with her outright.
Panicked, Huo Yuqing rushed to the school team and Qi Qiuyuan’s dorm to find out her home address, then took a taxi straight there, hoping to talk things out in person.
Tears had streamed down her face the entire way, and Huo Yuqing even began to doubt whether she had made the wrong choice.
Because of this one decision, their three-year relationship had come to an end.
Huo Yuqing’s heart was filled with regret.
Perhaps even if she had entered the Foreign Affairs College, her dream might not have come true…
She kept doubting herself.
Then, she received an email from Qi Qiuyuan on her phone.
With a heart full of anxiety, Huo Yuqing opened it.
Because of their breakup, Qi Qiuyuan had even decided to go abroad for training.
That was Huo Yuqing’s first thought.
But when she finished reading the entire email, she finally noticed the key point.
The email was dated early March.
He had made plans to go abroad a month ago.
Yet he had never told her.
Realizing this, Huo Yuqing’s mind became a tangled mess.
