Try Saying You Don't Like It - Chapter 38
Chapter 38
That evening, He Xinglan received a call from her grandmother. The first thing her grandma asked was if she had a girlfriend, why she hadn’t brought her to see her, and if she still considered her to be her biological grandmother.
He Xinglan immediately complained with feigned grievance: “I just confirmed the relationship with her!”
“I don’t care.” He Xinglan’s grandmother was like an old child now, very stubborn: “Xingxing isn’t as close to Grandma as she used to be when she was little.”
He Xinglan: “…”
“Then… how about I bring her to see you tomorrow?” An old child is an old child. What could He Xinglan do? She could only coax her. He Xinglan spoke in a gentle, soft tone to her grandmother.
“Good, good!” As soon as He Xinglan said this, her grandmother’s voice became extremely cheerful, with no trace of resentment left.
“Xingxing, what does your girlfriend like to eat? Does she have any dietary restrictions? Grandma will cook personally tomorrow. I must treat our Xingxing’s girlfriend well.” Her grandmother’s voice was full of excitement. That was her future granddaughter-in-law! Her grandma was eighty years old, with one foot in the grave. She had raised a son and a daughter, and both their careers and families were satisfactory. Her grandchildren were also married early, and she even had great-grandchildren. Her only regret was that her most beloved granddaughter hadn’t settled down emotionally.
Regarding her granddaughter liking girls, her grandma was very open-minded. In matters of the heart, the most important thing was mutual affection for a good future. As for gender, what was the difference? Technology was so advanced now.
Now it was settled. Her granddaughter finally had a girlfriend. Once she met her granddaughter’s girlfriend, she could meet the King of Hell without regrets.
He Xinglan patiently told her grandmother all about Yin Qiuman’s favorite foods and dietary restrictions.
As soon as she managed to hang up, He’s mother’s call came in with zero interruption.
“I heard you’re taking Manman to see Grandma tomorrow?” He’s mother didn’t beat around the bush and went straight to the point.
He Xinglan: “Mm.”
“Mom wants to see her too,” He’s mother’s tone was non-negotiable.
He Xinglan: “…You’re not at Grandma’s place. How can you see her?”
“Mom will have your dad drive over tonight.” He’s mother’s desire to see her future daughter-in-law was exceptionally strong.
He Xinglan: “…”
“No need to be so rushed. She’s here; she’s not running away.”
“I want to see her now.”
He Xinglan: Truly her grandmother’s daughter. The demanding tone is exactly the same.
“See her if you want. Tell Dad to drive safely tonight.” He Xinglan couldn’t refuse her grandmother, and similarly, she couldn’t refuse her mother. She could only remind her to be safe.
“I know, I know. First, tell me what kind of meeting gift we should give Manman? Does she like jade bracelets? Or gold? Maybe just give her gold directly. It can be used for investment, or she can have the jewelry she likes made from it,” He’s mother said to herself.
He Xinglan commented: “Mom, you’re so direct.”
“Is directness bad?” He’s mother scoffed: “Unlike you, your mouth is sealed like a gourd; you can barely get a peep out of it.”
He Xinglan: I’m not that bad, am I?
I’ve had plenty of girlfriends before!
However, He Xinglan only dared to complain about this in her mind. Past experience told her not to try reasoning with He’s mother; she would never win.
“Then I’ll pick you up tomorrow?” He Xinglan mumbled.
“We’re driving. Why would we need you to pick us up?” He’s mother retorted, full of disdain in her voice.
He Xinglan: “…”
“We’ll go straight to your grandma’s house. You just bring Manman over.”
After hanging up, He Xinglan only then realized that her mother seemed to have agreed to give Manman an expensive gift.
He Xinglan thought back. Her girlfriend didn’t seem to wear much jewelry, nor was she very enthusiastic about it. Maybe she’d be more enthusiastic about gold?
Looking at the time displayed on her phone, He Xinglan ultimately decided not to call Yin Qiuman to ask.
On the other side, Yin Qiuman returned home.
Hearing the sound of the door opening, Yin Huaishan and Leng Ci’s eyes simultaneously turned to look behind Yin Qiuman.
“Where’s Xingxing?” Leng Ci asked her daughter as she changed her shoes.
Yin Qiuman finished putting on her slippers and walked towards the living room while answering Leng Ci: “She went back to the hotel.”
“Xingxing is staying at a hotel?” Leng Ci frowned.
Yin Qiuman nodded.
“Then why didn’t you bring her directly home? Can’t she sleep in your room?” Leng Ci looked at her daughter with strong disapproval.
Since she was her daughter’s girlfriend, she was practically their daughter too. Was it proper to stay in a hotel when there was a home she could sleep in?
Leng Ci didn’t think it was He Xinglan who didn’t want to come; it must have been her daughter who didn’t allow her to follow.
Yin Qiuman was glared at by Leng Ci. The meaning of blame was too obvious, leaving Yin Qiuman stunned.
Realizing what was happening, she had to admit that He Xinglan seemed to be closer to her mother than she, the biological daughter, was.
Yin Qiuman hesitated: “Then… should I ask her to come over now?”
“Don’t you think that’s too much trouble?”
Yin Qiuman: Calling her isn’t right, not calling her isn’t right. What should I do?
Seeing the confusion in her daughter’s eyes, Leng Ci sighed and patiently said: “Tomorrow, tell Xingxing to check out of the hotel and come live at home with you. It’s also easier for people in a relationship to spend time together to nurture their feelings.”
“Even though Xingxing doesn’t mind you, and still likes you even after you dumped her, you shouldn’t dislike love being too strong; the stronger, the better.”
Yin Qiuman certainly understood that.
“Dad, Mom, I plan to transfer my job to Qīngchéng after the New Year,” Yin Qiuman said.
Yin Huaishan frowned at first. He was quite satisfied with his daughter’s current job; the income was good, and she could be close to her parents. But…
“Is Xingxing in Qīngchéng?” Yin Huaishan asked.
Yin Qiuman nodded.
“Then go,” Yin Huaishan said decisively: “You don’t need to worry about your mother and me. We’re not senile yet. We’ll remember to call you if anything happens.”
“It’s also close enough to come back from Qīngchéng.”
“Yes, as long as you and Xingxing are happy,” Leng Ci also said.
Yin Huaishan and Leng Ci’s unhesitating support surprised Yin Qiuman. She had mentioned wanting to go out and try new things in the past, but back then, they were mostly opposed, hoping their daughter would stay by their side.
But now, with just the mention that He Xinglan was in Qīngchéng, they unreservedly supported her decision.
Seeing the confusion in Yin Qiuman’s eyes, Leng Ci explained: “You know Little Zhang in our neighborhood, right? He was only married for a year, but because he had to earn money, he left his wife alone at home and went out. As a result, his wife got involved with another man and divorced him. I heard the reason the woman insisted on divorce was that the long-distance separation caused their affection to fade, and the man couldn’t help with anything when he was away. She said she was living like a widow and couldn’t stand that life, so…”
“Although you and Xingxing are both girls, matters of the heart are the same.”
Yin Qiuman also didn’t want a long-distance relationship with He Xinglan right at the start, nor did she want He Xinglan to return to the small county town for her. So, this time, it was her turn to go to He Xinglan.
“By the way, Dad, Mom, Xingxing said she’s taking me to meet her grandparents tomorrow.”
