Trapped in a Tempting Love - Chapter 6
Chapter 6: The Ye Family
The words Ye Feiran had spoken before leaving about going to get their marriage certificate were still echoing in Su Qianyi’s mind. She floated downstairs in a daze, and only regained some of her senses after seeing the car in the parking lot.
However, compared to this brand-new car, Su Qianyi looked at the clothes she was still wearing from last night and couldn’t help but feel a bit repulsed.
Therefore, she did not return to the Su residence but headed straight for City A’s largest shopping center: Chanyue Plaza, a subsidiary of the Ye Group.
The top floor of Chanyue was filled with high-end luxury goods. Su Qianyi was naturally beautiful, and the shopping guides treated her with extraordinary enthusiasm, wishing they could move the entire season’s new arrivals over for her to try on.
But when it came time to pay, Su Qianyi discovered that her bank account only had a few hundred yuan.
Even if the original host’s profit-sharing from her artist contract was low and her expenses for hair, makeup, and clothing were high, she was still a legitimate young miss of a wealthy family. For her to have less than four digits in her card—was this reasonable? Was it?
So, rounding it off, the original host’s value in the Su family was only worth a few hundred yuan.
Su Qianyi was indignant. After a quick calculation, she smiled at the guide and said, “Excuse me, can I make a phone call first?”
“Of course, Miss. You can keep looking; there’s no rush to check out.”
As employees of a luxury store, their sales skills were top-tier, and their eyes had been trained to be sharp as a hawk’s. Although the brand of the outfit Su Qianyi was wearing couldn’t be identified, her aura and composure were things that could only be cultivated in a wealthy household.
Looking at the pile of clothes Su Qianyi wanted her to wrap up, the guide’s performance for today already equaled a typical week’s worth of sales. Naturally, she was extremely patient. Far from being angry, she felt that Su Qianyi was a careless young miss from some family who had forgotten to bring enough money when leaving the house.
On ordinary days, luxury stores were full of customers who only tried things on without buying, but today’s Su Qianyi was very decisive. She wrapped up every piece she tried and never even looked at the price tags. Such an opportunity to boost sales performance was a once-in-a-lifetime chance.
The guides wished they could find every piece of clothing suitable for Su Qianyi and present them with both hands. Su Qianyi was tall with a curvaceous figure; no matter how exaggerated the colors or how difficult the styles were for others to pull off, they looked perfectly natural on her, drawing even more admiration.
While Su Qianyi brought sales to these stores, she also attracted a significant amount of foot traffic for them.
Looking at the glances occasionally peeking through the door, Su Qianyi found the contact “Su Jing” in her address book and dialed.
A few seconds later, an exasperated voice came from the other end: “Su Qianyi, you dare to call me? Last night I told you to go please Ye Jingchen. What happened? Where did you go?”
Su Qianyi held the phone a bit further away and waited until Su Jing finished yelling before replying slowly, “Dad, I’m at Chanyue buying quite a few things, but I found out my account only has a few hundred yuan. What do you think should be done?”
“Don’t give me that nonsense. Get your ass back here immediately.”
The person on the other side was clearly pretending not to hear.
Su Qianyi sighed, “Sigh, but right now a crowd has already gathered outside the store. Do you think if I just walk out like this and tell them I’m your daughter, the eldest miss of the Su Group…”
The other side fell silent.
Su Qianyi sighed again, “Since that’s the case, I can only go out and tell her…”
“Wait! Charge it to the account and have them come to me for reimbursement.”
Hearing this, Su Qianyi hung up the phone.
However, Chanyue belonged to the Ye family, and it did not allow for signing bills or buying on credit. She didn’t care if Su Jing was doing it on purpose; did she not have a counter-strategy?
Su Qianyi stepped to the side and dialed Ye Feiran. After a few rings, Ye Feiran picked up: “What is it?”
“I’m shopping at Chanyue. In a bit, the bill will be sent directly to the Su family under the name of the Ye Group. That won’t be a problem, right?”
Laughter came from the other end of the line: “Moving quite fast, aren’t you?”
“Well, look who I am,” Su Qianyi said with a hint of showing off. “Is there anything you like? Do you want me to pick up something for you too?”
“No need. As long as you’re happy taking what you want.” Ye Feiran hung up.
Not long after, a person wearing a manager’s uniform walked over. “Pardon us, Miss Su, we were negligent just now. We have confirmed it; we will consolidate your bills and have them delivered together when the shipment is sent.”
“Manager, doesn’t our policy forbid—” a guide started to speak uncertainly, but she came to a realization after catching the manager’s look.
“It’s fine, it’s fine. I know you were just being cautious.” Su Qianyi smiled, causing their favorable impression of her to rise significantly. “Then, could I trouble you to bring out those other new arrivals we mentioned for me to try?”
Back in the car, imagining the extravagant shopping spree she just had, the anger Su Qianyi felt over the original host being neglected by the Su family finally dissipated a little.
Yet, she felt it was somewhat meaningless.
After all, no matter how much she vented for the original host, the original host had left this world forever.
Her mood dipped slightly as a result. Su Qianyi sighed; she could only get it back from the members of the Su family.
After noon, Su Qianyi followed the navigation and finally returned to the Su residence.
Just as she got out of the car, several mocking voices came from the side:
“Some people are born into good families, but in the end, they’re just used as marriage tools to be thrown away whenever.”
“Didn’t you hear the Master say the other party didn’t even want her? I wonder what else she can do; she’s grown up so beautiful for nothing.”
“Exactly. It’s not like the Second Miss, who can actually enter the company to share the Master’s burdens.”
The original host’s situation in the Su family was even worse than she had imagined. Even these hired servants could gossip about the owner so casually; it seemed someone was backing them up.
Su Qianyi walked inside without looking sideways. Reaching the front door, she looked at the gossiping servants with a faint smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “Go on, is there anything else?”
The Su family suffered from common ailments of many wealthy households: the masters never had a good look for the servants, but fortunately, the pay was high, so people flocked to the positions.
The servants were also used to reading the room. Seeing that Su Qianyi was out of favor, their attitude toward her had become worse and worse.
Hearing Su Qianyi’s words, the servants didn’t restrain themselves; instead, they began to curse even more arrogantly:
“What are you looking at us for? Do you think anyone is going to stand up for you?”
Crash. Su Qianyi had come back specifically to cause trouble, and she didn’t mind making it a big deal. She picked up an exquisite porcelain vase from the cabinet by the door and smashed it in front of the servants’ feet without even looking.
“Living in one’s own home even worse than an outsider—if it were me, I would have cleaned things up long ag—” The servant who was speaking quickly shut her mouth.
“Keep talking.” Su Qianyi picked up a jade ornament shaped like a wealth-gatherer and tossed it casually. The jade rolled down the steps a few times before finally shattering. “I’ll smash my things, and you guys do your cursing.”
“Have you gone mad? Do you think doing this will make the Master look at you more?”
Just as Su Qianyi’s hand was about to touch the next ornament, someone finally came running out from inside the house.
No one standing up for her?
See, hasn’t someone come?
The newcomer was a man in his prime, the butler of the Su house. Seeing the mess on the ground, he immediately frowned. “What’s going on? These are all things the Master likes. Can you people afford to pay for them?”
The servants’ faces instantly panicked.
“We didn’t smash these!”
“It was the Eldest Miss! It has nothing to do with us!”
The butler looked at Su Qianyi and asked with a frown, “Eldest Miss, this?”
“You’ve wronged them. I did indeed smash them. Do I need to pay?”
—So said Su Qianyi, who had just checked her mobile bank account and had only a few hundred yuan left to her name.
“This… that won’t be necessary,” the butler replied.
“Mhm. It just so happens I have something to ask you.” Su Qianyi opened her phone and played a recording; the words the servants just said were played back once more.
Su Qianyi was a master after all. If they gossiped behind her back, so be it, but if they were so undisciplined to her face, they were slapping the face of the butler as their leader.
“Butler, I don’t want to see these people again. Can you handle this?” Su Qianyi closed her phone, her smile vanishing. “If not, I don’t mind finding someone else who can handle it.”
“Butler, don’t listen to her nonsense! Isn’t everything in this house decided by the Madam?”
“Do you think I can?” Su Qianyi looked directly at the butler.
The butler was smart after all and saw things more clearly than these people. Because of the Madam’s bias, petty squabbles in the background were nothing.
But if Su Qianyi brought this into the open, Su Qianyi would be in the right no matter what. Furthermore, the success or failure of the Su family currently rested on Su Qianyi. Forget firing servants—even if she wanted to replace him as the butler, Su Jing wouldn’t make things difficult for her.
“Rest assured, Eldest Miss. I will have them leave immediately.”
“Good, then thank you. As for the mess on the floor, please find someone to clean it up.”
“Understood, Eldest Miss.”
Having dealt with those people, Su Qianyi walked inside. If she guessed correctly, a major drama was waiting for her in there.
“Oh, how lively.” Su Qianyi clapped her hands, and the sounds of talking and laughing vanished instantly.
Su Wanwan was sitting between Su Jing and Jiang Manrong, looking the picture of family harmony, making Su Qianyi appear very redundant.
“Su Qianyi, your gall is getting bigger and bigger! Not only did you stay out all night, but you start a rebellion the moment you come home! Are you going to ride over my head next?” Su Jing stood up the moment he saw Su Qianyi, pointing at her and questioning her without restraint.
Su Qianyi looked at Su Jing’s balding head, looked away with repulsion, and said casually, “How would I dare?”
“The Ye family hasn’t given a final reply yet. I told you to go please Ye Jingchen, but you? You went and ruined the marriage alliance directly! And you dare to stay out all night messing around with others? You really have a lot of nerve.”
“Did I mess around?” Su Qianyi looked at Su Wanwan. Thinking of the lab report Ye Feiran gave her, wasn’t the person who made her “mess around” his precious daughter?
But Su Qianyi didn’t plan to explain. She put on an expression of sudden realization, “Oh, it seems I did mess around.”
“Dad, don’t be so anxious yet. Sister breaking off the engagement with Brother Jingchen last night must have been a misunderstanding. Young people just like to joke. And staying out all night must have only been…” Su Wanwan spoke cautiously. “I don’t mean anything else; I’m just afraid that if someone comes knocking on our door later, it will make everyone look bad.”
Su Qianyi looked at Su Wanwan. This scene did indeed happen in the original book. But everything from last night had changed because of her arrival. The person who took her away was Ye Feiran.
“Su Qianyi, so exactly what kind of shady person were you fooling around with last night? If you want to lose face, don’t drag the Su family into it.” Hearing Su Wanwan’s words, Su Jing’s patience finally ran out, and his face darkened.
“I don’t know.” Su Qianyi sat directly on the empty sofa, took a bunch of red grapes from the fruit plate, plucked one, and bit into it. With a faint smile on her lips, she met Su Jing’s gaze. “Maybe I just picked someone up randomly on the street? There were too many people; I can’t remember clearly.”
She was incredibly arrogant and irritating.
“You are becoming more and more outrageous! I’m telling you, you’re going through with this marriage whether you want to or not! Go to the Ye family immediately and apologize to Ye Jingchen.”
Looking at this family, Su Qianyi couldn’t help but show a mocking expression.
In the beginning, the Su family had built its fortune on the dowry of the original host’s mother, Ji Ning. The Ji family had never agreed to this marriage in the first place and had completely cut off contact after moving overseas.
Ji Ning’s health had been poor after giving birth, and she passed away a few months later. Su Jing then brought his mistress, Jiang Manrong, home. Two months later, Su Wanwan, who was the same age as Su Qianyi, was born.
Jiang Manrong appeared to care for the original host deeply, but considering that Su Wanwan entered the company after graduation and was highly regarded by Su Jing while the original host could only enter the entertainment industry based on her looks, there was likely a hidden motive.
After all, when discussing the marriage alliance, the original host thought it was the hope that would take her away from this home, never imagining that it would be the true beginning of her nightmare.
It was utterly laughable.
Thinking of the original host’s fate in the novel—not only being pushed into a marriage alliance but immediately being pushed out as a scapegoat when a project went wrong—if the Su family was heartless, why should they blame her for being unjust?
Su Qianyi looked at Su Jing with mockery. “No one can force me into a marriage I don’t want. You want a marriage alliance, right? Go associate with the Ye family yourself. Anyway, you’ve already been married twice—wouldn’t one more time be even better?”
However, Su Jing, who had always had the final say in the Su family, stood up in a rage after hearing his usually timid daughter talk back to him. “Su Qianyi, do you want to start a rebellion? I have the final say in this house!”
Su Qianyi ignored him and walked straight toward the door.
She had planned to come back and organize some things, but now she wanted nothing.
As for things like identification documents, at most, she would just have them all reissued. Whoever wanted them could have them.
“Don’t let her leave! Block her!” Su Jing commanded the household servants.
“Master! Master!” At that moment, the butler ran in frantically to report. “Someone has come to visit at the gate.”
“Have whoever it is wait! Can’t you see I’m handling family matters?”
“But the visitor is from the Ye family.”
Su Jing suddenly reined in his rage and asked quickly, “Who from the Ye family?”
“The visitor is the head of the Ye family, Ye Feiran.”
