- Chapter 72 - The Jade Lotus Hairpin as a Token of Love
Qin Yiqiu turned around and hastily retreated from the secret chamber, her steps flustered and hurried. She then shifted her gaze to the shelves, scanning them until her eyes landed on a jade hairpin of exquisite craftsmanship.
The hairpin was entirely emerald green, with a divine light shimmering within. Its head was carved into a lotus bud, poised to bloom.
Qin Yiqiu closed her eyes and imagined Luo Yunhuan wearing the jade hairpin, her hair styled in an elegant updo, clad in that beautiful green bamboo-patterned dress.
A charming smile graced her lips.
Beautiful, truly beautiful.
Qin Yiqiu silently acknowledged this in her heart, completely ignoring what lay behind her. She felt that if she looked at it for even a moment longer, her eyes would rot.
“This one,” she decided.
The shopkeeper stepped out, slightly embarrassed. He inwardly scolded himself for being an old fool he shouldn’t have brought the young sect leader to such a place just because she couldn’t articulate what she wanted.
It was obvious: Qin Yiqiu, a cultivator of the emotionless path, would have no use for tools meant to satisfy desires.
Hearing Qin Yiqiu make her choice, the shopkeeper approached and revealed an understanding smile.
“This is the Jade Lotus Hairpin. Sealed within it is a trace of the essence blood of a lotus demon, capable of promoting the blooming of summer lotuses.”
Qin Yiqiu nodded, listening as the shopkeeper recounted the story of the hairpin while carefully wrapping it.
After paying with spirit stones, Qin Yiqiu cast one last meaningful glance at the secret chamber. Though she was unwilling to admit or even think about it, a brief moment of wavering had stirred within her heart.
She had wanted to see her junior sister cry.
But that hesitation lasted only a moment before it was shattered and dispersed by a self-reproachful curse from the depths of her heart.
For the past month, Luo Yunhuan hadn’t seen her senior sister, leaving her feeling empty inside. Although her application to become an inner disciple had been approved by the sect, she couldn’t muster any joy.
[Host, don’t be so listless. Neither headquarters nor I are in a hurry, why are you?]
It was true. The system hadn’t assigned her any urgent tasks for a month. Logically, Luo Yunhuan should have felt relieved.
After all, it was rare for the “dog system” to be so understanding. But not being able to see her senior sister only made her more anxious and unsettled.
Was this withdrawal symptoms?
Luo Yunhuan couldn’t help but wonder.
She opened the map and saw the red dot representing her senior sister. It seemed it hadn’t moved for a long time.
She must be cultivating. But why wasn’t she within the sect? Instead, she had gone outside.
Countless doubts troubled Luo Yunhuan, but overthinking was pointless. For now, she needed to focus on improving her own strength. Otherwise, if she took on a mission like the beast tide again, she’d only end up hiding pathetically in her senior sister’s embrace.
That was absolutely unacceptable!
Luo Yunhuan gathered her things and, feeling somewhat nervous, attended the talisman master’s class for the first time. The spacious room was sparsely populated, with only a dozen or so disciples scattered about.
When Yuan Dingshan saw Luo Yunhuan enter, his face lit up with an eager, fawning expression. He shifted his cushion closer to her.
“Junior Sister, you’re finally here!”
The treatment of inner and outer disciples was vastly different. Inner disciples didn’t have to do menial tasks or work hard on missions just to exchange for the sect’s basic supplies.
They received a monthly allocation of pills and cultivation resources. If they felt it wasn’t enough, they could also take on sect missions.
“Senior Brother Yuan, the elder will be here soon. We shouldn’t make noise,” Luo Yunhuan said, shifting her cushion slightly to put some distance between them.
She still remembered why her conquest points had been deducted last time, so she didn’t dare have any further contact with men.
Yuan Dingshan was no fool; he could clearly tell that Luo Yunhuan was keeping her distance from him. For a moment, his heart felt a pang of loneliness.
He couldn’t understand what he had done wrong to make Luo Yunhuan avoid him as if he were some kind of monster.
All he could do was lower his head and respond softly.
“Oh.”
Perhaps because she had improved her comprehension through the system before, Luo Yunhuan actually found herself able to understand some of the white-bearded elder’s lecture.
She quickly became immersed in the class, unaware that Yuan Dingshan beside her was staring at her intently, his fingers clenched so tightly that his knuckles made faint cracking sounds.
His cousin had told him to wait until Luo Yunhuan’s emotional ties were severed before using the so-called love gu, but Yuan Dingshan could no longer hold back.
If he used it on his junior sister ahead of time, even the senior sister wouldn’t insist on interfering, right?
Yuan Dingshan had some understanding of Qin Yiqiu’s personality she was too proud to force things. So, as long as his junior sister’s heart leaned toward him, she would let go.
He had originally planned to search for the love gu after this year, but now it seemed there was no need to wait. The sooner he found it, the better.
Better to avoid complications and unexpected incidents.
A major lecture lasted at least two to three hours. After finishing, Luo Yunhuan realized she had gained some insights and was eager to return to practice the techniques of drawing talismans again.
As soon as she stepped out the door, she saw someone standing under the long corridor.
The person was dressed in a deep blue robe, leaning against a vermilion pillar. When they saw Luo Yunhuan, their deep blue eyes revealed a hint of a smile.
“Junior Sister.”
Luo Yunhuan’s steps faltered. She hadn’t expected the person she hadn’t seen for a month to seek her out on their own. Her heart began to pound wildly.
[Host, stay calm. You are the one doing the conquering!]
The system’s reminder snapped Luo Yunhuan back to her senses. She fixed her gaze on Qin Yiqiu and noticed the other was holding a box.
The red box was made of high-quality wood, emitting a faint woody fragrance, and was coated with red lacquer.
“Come here.”
Qin Yiqiu beckoned.
The few inner disciples who had followed Luo Yunhuan out were all stunned. Although they knew the relationship between Luo Yunhuan and Qin Yiqiu was ambiguous,
the prevailing rumor in the sect was that Qin Yiqiu was merely using a lowly outer disciple to pass her love tribulation.
Luo Yunhuan obediently walked over. Qin Yiqiu raised her hand, gently smoothing the hair on Luo Yunhuan’s head.
“I heard you’ve been promoted to inner disciple. Congratulations.”
Lately, the senior sister had been avoiding her, and Luo Yunhuan felt inexplicably uneasy thinking about it. She suddenly remembered that Qin Yiqiu had promised her compensation back in the secret realm.
It was compensation for voluntarily helping Qin Yiqiu pass her love tribulation. At first, Luo Yunhuan hadn’t wanted to use it.
But now, she had no choice.
“It’s all thanks to your guidance, Senior Sister.”
Luo Yunhuan smoothly flattered her.
Then, she reached out and linked arms with Qin Yiqiu.
“Senior Sister, where have you been this past month?”
“I haven’t seen you at all.”
Luo Yunhuan whispered these words close to Qin Yiqiu’s ear, her warm breath brushing against the earlobe, bringing a tingling itch.
“I went to discuss the Dao…”
The last few words were left unfinished as Qin Yiqiu’s ear was gently bitten.
“I really missed you. You went somewhere and didn’t even tell me.”
A hint of resentment lingered in the tone.
But with just that one sentence, Qin Yiqiu nearly lost her composure, almost dropping the rosewood box on the floor.
