- Transmigration! The System Wants Me to Pursue the Abstinent Senior Sister
- Chapter 69 - The Love Gu
Although she was somewhat curious about the gossip the two were discussing, Luo Yunhuan didn’t dwell on it too much. She decided not to attend the large lecture today it would be best to avoid Yuan Dingshan for the next few days.
Once her application to become an inner sect disciple was approved, she could openly go on her own.
Gazing at the lush greenery of the flowers, plants, and trees in the courtyard, Luo Yunhuan took out a large pair of shears from her storage pouch. The shears gleamed coldly, and she could almost feel the trembling of the plants.
But if left untrimmed, the plants would grow as wild and disorderly as weeds.
“Sorry about this.”
Though her words sounded apologetic, there wasn’t a hint of remorse on her face. Instead, she bent down and mercilessly snipped away the vines creeping over the stone path.
Tending to the garden took quite a bit of time, and before she knew it, the sun had already begun to set in the west.
“Cousin.”
Yuan Dingshan hesitated, then noticed the person walking beside him suddenly stop.
“Didn’t I tell you? Within the sect, you should address me as Senior Brother.”
Yuan Renlin raised a finger to his lips, his eyes carrying a threatening glint.
“Alright, Senior Brother Yuan.”
Yuan Dingshan reluctantly nodded, then voiced the worries weighing on his mind.
“Yunhuan is such a wonderful girl, with such high talent in talismans. Does she really have to be with the Eldest Senior Sister?”
“If she severs her emotions, losing all feelings would certainly be a great benefit for the Path of Emotionlessness. But for those of us not cultivating that path, it’s nothing but harm!”
This was precisely why Yuan Dingshan didn’t want Luo Yunhuan getting too close to the Eldest Senior Sister though, admittedly, there was a touch of jealousy mixed in.
He couldn’t imagine what a person would be like after losing all joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure. Even eating would probably become tasteless.
Yuan Renlin walked with an elegant posture. He nodded, not refuting his cousin’s words but rather agreeing with them.
“What you say is right, but this isn’t something we can decide. It’s the Sect Leader’s intention.”
Yuan Dingshan grew agitated upon hearing this.
“The Sect Leader is harming Junior Sister Yunhuan! To be deceived in heart and emotion by the Eldest Senior Sister, only to have it all severed with one cut isn’t that just abandonment?”
“What crime has Yunhuan committed to become a tool for the Eldest Senior Sister to overcome her love tribulation?”
Seeing his foolish cousin growing more and more worked up, Yuan Renlin directly covered his mouth with his hand, glaring at him with sharpened eyes.
“What are you saying? Be careful the Enforcement Squad hears you. Speaking recklessly about the future Young Sect Master, getting your backside beaten raw wouldn’t be enough to atone for that crime.”
Deep down, both of them understood: how could a mere outer sect disciple compare to the future of the sect’s heir?
But since Yuan Dingshan had feelings for Luo Yunhuan, her position in his heart was naturally different.
“I know, but I just can’t accept it. It shouldn’t be this way. Doesn’t our sect’s code advocate caring for fellow disciples? How is the Eldest Senior Sister’s actions any different from those of demonic cults?”
“Dingshan!”
Yuan Renlin sharply rapped his cousin on the head.
“I told you, do not speak recklessly about the Eldest Senior Sister!”
Yuan Renlin was truly angry now, the atmosphere around them dropping to freezing point. Yet, Yuan Dingshan seemed completely oblivious to the chill in the air.
“I told you, you’re all biased toward the senior sister!”
Just as the two were about to argue, Yuan Renlin finally composed himself, curled his fingers, and gave his cousin a hard knock on the head with a “stir-fried chestnut.”
Only after a small bump swelled on the other’s head did he let go. Then, as if remembering something, he began frantically rummaging through his storage ring.
Soon, he pulled out a thick roll of parchment. Parchment, being one of the earliest materials used for drawing diagrams and recording secret manuals, was the most resistant to decay and could last for millennia.
Even so, though this parchment was preserved by magic to prevent rot, it still showed signs of age.
“This records several rare love gu. One of them is bound to suit you. I took to heart what you told me in the message talisman.”
“If you like her, then go after her.”
Although the sect forbade deep entanglement between men and women, it didn’t oppose lifelong partnerships as long as cultivation wasn’t hindered.
In simpler terms, no fooling around, no reckless infatuation. That was all.
Yet even with such straightforward rules, many still couldn’t abide by them.
“But you must wait until Senior Sister severs her emotional ties before using it on Luo Yunhuan.”
“By then, her heart will be free of affection. The love gu can stir her emotions and become her emotions. Do you understand what I mean?”
Yuan Dingshan was stunned, never expecting his cousin to have such a trick up his sleeve. His fingers tightened around the soft, aged parchment.
A smile spread across his face.
“Thank you, cous ”
He nearly let the word “cousin” slip out but bit his tongue just in time.
“Senior Brother Yuan!”
Then, unable to wait any longer, Yuan Dingshan unrolled the parchment. Before his eyes were over a dozen vividly depicted, lifelike gu insects.
The effects and uses of each gu were described in great detail. Among them, one gu was particularly beautiful, with four slender legs.
The pattern on its back resembled a stunning red rose. Below, in neat, tiny script, was an introduction to this gu.
The characters were minuscule but perfectly legible.
Yuan Dingshan couldn’t help but read it aloud.
“‘Fondness Gu.’ This insect grows in roses nourished by the flesh and blood of lovesick individuals. Having consumed too much of the dense emotional threads of souls, it has learned to mimic them.”
Reading this, Yuan Dingshan’s eyebrows lifted in excitement. This gu was truly remarkable.
No wonder gu-refining cultivators rarely ventured out, mostly holed up in valleys, yet could wipe out swathes of enemies with a single move.
With these undetectable little gu insects alone, who knew how many powerful experts could be ensnared?
Too astonished to continue reading aloud, Yuan Dingshan silently scanned the rest.
If one wished to make someone infatuated with another, they first had to drip the blood of the desired person onto the love gu, allowing the gu to recognize its master.
Then, the gu had to be placed on the target’s skin. This step required extreme caution, as the gu burrowing into the skin would cause excruciating pain. If it were pulled out in time, all efforts would be in vain.
The process was lengthy and best accompanied by intoxicating pills or spiritual wine.
After reading it all in one go, Yuan Dingshan’s heart surged with turmoil. Such a scheme was utterly despicable, yet his cousin still encouraged him to use it.
The main reason for this was that after severing the ties of affection, Qin Yiqiu thrived, able to continue cultivating the emotionless technique without worries.
But Luo Yunhuan suffered greatly not only would she lose her emotions, but she would also be unable to live a normal life.
She would become like a walking corpse.
After all, severing emotional bonds isn’t a path normal people take in cultivation it’s exclusive to the emotionless path.
If she could use this Love Bug, it might actually turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Junior Sister Luo.
But, could he really endure for so long?
Wait until everything settled, then take advantage of the situation?
Yuan Dingshan didn’t know.
