- Chapter 10 - An Apology from the Eldest Senior Sister
Qin Yiqiu held a monthly lecture to guide disciples practicing the Heartless Art in their cultivation. During these sessions, she spoke more than usual, sharing her personal insights, though her delivery was somewhat rigid and monotonous.
Nevertheless, her teachings significantly improved their practice, and everyone listened with rapt attention, barely able to keep up.
After a two-hour lecture concluded, Qin Yiqiu had just stepped down from the platform when her third junior sister handed her a cup of warm tea, just the right temperature to drink without scalding her mouth.
“Senior Sister, you’ve worked hard. I heard you had a mishap in your cultivation a few days ago. Are you alright?”
Although they were all disciples of the sect master, the other two junior siblings did not practice the Heartless Art but instead cultivated other techniques passed down by their master.
“It’s nothing serious. A few days of rest will suffice.”
Just as Qin Yiqiu was about to leave, she suddenly remembered something that had been troubling her these past few days.
Her fingers tightened around the teacup. Though she found it difficult to broach the subject, she forced herself to speak.
“Junior Sister, I’d like to ask you something.”
“Oh? It’s rare for the Eldest Senior Sister to have questions. Go ahead.”
Lin Rouyun smiled, her eyes narrowing.
“If I mean, if Second Junior Brother were to act inappropriately toward a woman, but it wasn’t intentional, how should he apologize?”
Qin Yiqiu couldn’t bring herself to admit it was about her. Though she inwardly scolded herself for lying, she simply couldn’t confess that she had been the one to act improperly toward a girl.
Even if it had happened due to a qi deviation during cultivation and wasn’t entirely her fault.
“Second Senior Brother?”
Lin Rouyun pictured Second Senior Brother’s aloof and arrogant demeanor and found it hard to imagine him taking liberties with any woman.
But if it really happened, it would certainly be interesting.
“Though I can’t imagine who Second Senior Brother would do such a thing with, since you’re asking, Eldest Senior Sister, I think he should offer the girl an apology gift like flowers or pastries. No girl would refuse those.”
Qin Yiqiu lowered her gaze, pondered for a moment, and thought it was a good idea.
“Thank you, Junior Sister.”
With that, Qin Yiqiu left, leaving Lin Rouyun standing there in confusion.
“Why did Eldest Senior Sister thank me?”
“Wasn’t she asking for Second Senior Brother?”
Lin Rouyun’s small brain couldn’t possibly connect all the dots, as she hadn’t been involved in the matter from the start.
Luo Yunhuan stood up, gazing at the beautifully maintained courtyard, feeling a rare sense of satisfaction.
Not bad, I really am quite skilled.
[Host, though work is important, our primary mission is still the strategy (romance route)!]
The system sounded displeased. Luo Yunhuan spent far too much time every day fussing over this courtyard.
She hadn’t given a single thought to the strategy.
“Why the rush? Didn’t I make progress before? Do you think the Heartless Path is so easy to conquer? If I hovered around the Eldest Senior Sister like a fly or a mosquito all day.”
“Never mind whether the Eldest Senior Sister would want to swat me, the male disciples around her would definitely want to!”
Luo Yunhuan rolled her eyes at the system.
Don’t you know that distance creates beauty? Don’t you understand the allure of a love that’s just out of reach? Don’t you realize that increasing favorability points requires appearing at the most opportune moments?
The system was left speechless.
Falling into silence for a moment, Luo Yunhuan prepared to fetch some water to nourish the young saplings.
Footsteps sounded from behind.
The steps were not heavy, but very light so light that if not for her keen hearing, she might not have noticed someone approaching.
Luo Yunhuan felt a chill creep up her spine. Turning her head, she saw a tall figure clad in a deep blue dress.
Qin Yiqiu was wearing the sect’s uniform. There were slight differences between the attire of female and male disciples, but the distinction was minimal. However, Qin Yiqiu seldom wore robes.
She preferred dresses.
The reason many female disciples avoided wearing dresses was obvious, they were inconvenient for fighting. But for Qin Yiqiu.
If someone could even get past her sword intent, they would already be considered formidable. She only switched to the disciple robes suitable for combat when facing powerful opponents.
“Senior Sister.”
Luo Yunhuan was so startled that she stumbled and fell to the ground, her hands sinking into the soft earth, fingers covered in mud, looking utterly disheveled.
“Am I that frightening?”
Qin Yiqiu approached step by step and handed over the food box she was carrying.
“No, it’s just your sudden appearance took me by surprise.”
Luo Yunhuan perfectly demonstrated the art of diplomacy. She reached out to take the food box from her senior sister but before she could speak, Qin Yiqiu explained first.
“An apology gift.”
Her ice-blue eyes held a trace of embarrassment. Being emotionless didn’t mean being indifferent to everything in the worldly sense, but rather not placing excessive importance on any single matter.
Thus, although Qin Yiqiu’s personality was somewhat cold, she wasn’t someone who disregarded everything. This kind of person, who held love for the world yet placed little weight on her own significance, was the chosen seedling for the Path of Emotionlessness.
Truly a righteous and upright archetype.
It was puzzling why such a character would appear in this kind of book.
One could only say the author had written a truly authentic Path of Emotionlessness, and watching such a person fall would be particularly intriguing.
Damn it, what a trashy novel!
“Thank you, Senior Sister.”
Luo Yunhuan cradled the food box in her hands and lifted the lid. A faint floral scent mixed with the aroma of fruit and the rich, oily fragrance of nuts wafted out, instantly whetting her appetite.
The pastries inside were exquisitely crafted, some shaped like chrysanthemums, others like plum blossoms.
Luo Yunhuan reached out to take one but then noticed her fingers were still covered in mud.
If she touched the beautiful treats now, she would soil them. Better to eat later.
Just as she was about to close the lid, Qin Yiqiu keenly noticed her hesitation. With slender fingers, she picked up one of the plum-blossom-shaped pastries.
“Would you like to try it?”
She then brought the pastry to Luo Yunhuan’s pink lips.
The enticing aroma was irresistible. Luo Yunhuan opened her mouth and took a small bite, her teeth sinking into the soft, crumbly texture.
“It’s delicious.”
She nodded and couldn’t resist taking another, larger bite. But perhaps due to her excitement, her teeth accidentally grazed Qin Yiqiu’s nail and fingertip.
It was just a light touch, but she immediately realized she might have done something inappropriate.
She quickly pulled away.
Only Qin Yiqiu remained, staring blankly at the pastry. Then she suppressed all her fluctuating emotions, acting as if nothing had happened.
“Finish it.”
Qin Yiqiu handed it over once more, only withdrawing her hand after watching the person before her finish the pastry.
Then, she wiped the crumbs from her fingertips with a handkerchief.
Qin Yiqiu stood up.
“I’ll be going now.”
Her voice was calm and even, but only she knew that her heart was rippling again, just like last time one wave after another, unceasing.
How strange.
