Transmigrating Into A Book? Isn't That Just Moving To A Different Place to Study? - Chapter 1
When Xia Yaojin opened her eyes again, she found herself slumped over a library table, her drool soaking through half a copy of Principles of Microeconomics.
Dazed, she lifted her head, her cervical spine emitting a faint click.
The sight before her left her stunned, it wasn’t her familiar university library, but a far more luxurious and spacious hall. Outside the massive floor to ceiling windows lay manicured lawns, and in the distance, a cluster of classical buildings shimmered with a warm golden hue under the sunlight.
“Classmate, are you alright?” a girl wearing glasses whispered from beside her, her eyes filled with concern. “You looked like you just fainted.”
Xia Yaojin rubbed her temples as a surge of foreign memory fragments flooded her brain.
Zhu Yawen, Gu Mingyuan, “Only For You”…
It took her exactly five seconds to digest this information, she had transmigrated into a book.
She had entered the melodramatic romance novel her roommate had obsessively recommended, a book she had only skimmed through to the ending.
What’s more, she wasn’t the female lead, nor the supporting antagonist. She wasn’t even a character with a significant name. She was Xia Yaojin, a mere “Extra A” who appeared only once, a top-tier student from a poor background who survived on scholarships and part time jobs. In one scene, she pointed the way for the lead, Zhu Yawen, and was promptly forgotten by the author.
“I’m fine, thank you,” Xia Yaojin nodded to the girl. Her voice was so calm it surprised even herself.
She looked down at her hands. They were thinner than she remembered, with prominent knuckles and faint blue veins visible beneath the skin. She wore a faded blue shirt with meticulous stitching at the cuffs, evidence of careful repair.
The “Hexagonal Warrior”
In her original world, Xia Yaojin was an uncompromising “King of Involution.” From elementary school through university, she had swept nearly every award possible, physics competitions, mathematical modeling, programming contests, and foreign language oratory. Wherever there was competition, the name Xia Yaojin followed.
Her friends nicknamed her the “Hexagonal Warrior” because there was virtually no field she didn’t excel in.
Then, she died of overwork. After three consecutive all nighters preparing for an international math competition, her heart simply stopped.
Transmigration? Xia Yaojin thought coldly. It’s just a change of scenery for studying.
She flipped through the notebook on the desk. It was filled with dense economic formulas and case analyses. The handwriting was neat and the logic clear, it seemed the original owner of this body was also a diligent soul.
However…
Xia Yaojin frowned. The original owner’s schedule was terrifying:
-
-
-
- 05:30: Wake up
-
-
-
-
-
- 06:00 – 08:00: Library self-study
-
-
-
-
-
- 08:00 – 12:00: Classes
-
-
-
-
-
- 13:00 – 17:00: Private tutoring (Part-time)
-
-
-
-
-
- 18:00 – 21:00: Convenience store shift
-
-
-
-
-
- 21:30 – 23:30: Library review
-
-
-
-
-
- 00:00: Sleep
-
-
“This is unscientific,” Xia Yaojin muttered. High-efficiency learning requires a functional body, this schedule was a death sentence.
The Strategy Shift
She quickly calculated her move. The original owner’s financial situation was indeed dire orphaned young, relying on grants and grueling part time work to cover tuition and living expenses.
But now that she was here, the rules had to change. Xia Yaojin pulled her phone from her bag, unlocked it via memory, and found her employers in the contacts.
“Auntie Wang, this is Xia Yaojin. I’m sorry, I won’t be able to continue the tutoring starting next week… Yes, my studies are too demanding… Thank you for everything.”
“Manager Li, it’s Xiao Xia. I can’t work at the convenience store anymore… I need to focus on school… Thank you for the opportunity.”
After making the calls, she exhaled. The original owner’s world was too small, confined to the struggle for survival. But Xia Yaojin knew how to maximize resources and gain the highest yield in the shortest time.
Scholarships. Competition prizes. These were the direct paths to monetizing knowledge.
She opened the university’s official website and browsed the academic competition notices. Mathematical modeling, physics innovation, programming, economic case analysis… Her eyes stopped on one specific entry:
“Beijing Joint University Academic Competition: Covering Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, and Economics. Grand Prize: 50,000 RMB.”
“That’s the one.”
Without hesitation, she clicked the registration link. When she reached the “Subject Selection” section, she paused for a split second.
Then, she checked all six boxes.
A Different Path
As the library lights brightened to signal the evening, Xia Yaojin had already finished reviewing the core content of two subjects. She packed her worn backpack and stepped outside.
The sunset painted the sky in shades of orange and red. Walking toward the cafeteria, she recalled a memory from her previous life. She remembered a giant poster at a bookstore back home for Only For You. It had been a “dog blood” (melodramatic) hit.
The plot was a mess, the female lead was abused physically and mentally, suffered a miscarriage, family bankruptcy, and betrayal, yet she eventually forgave the male lead, who even had an illegitimate child, in the name of “true love.”
What a load of rubbish, Xia Yaojin thought.
Back then, she had pulled her roommate away from the poster, uninterested in the soap opera. Now, standing in the middle of that very story, her sentiment remained the same. She had zero interest in the leads or their “entangled love.”
She only wanted to know one thing in this world, could she live a little longer? At the very least, she wasn’t going to die from an all nighter again.
