Chapter 25: Wealthy and Easy to Control
“A nice person?”
The words “nice” and Fu Xuejia had absolutely nothing to do with each other.
In the original novel, she was essentially the “chief eunuch” to Su Su’s villainous supporting character role. She put in significant effort to help Su Su accumulate hatred from the male and female leads. Not only that, she led Su Su into a lifestyle of daily indulgence—bars, karaoke, and bullying classmates in the name of Su Su. She did every bad thing in the book.
One could say that in the original plot, the majority of the malicious acts Su Su committed were actually executed by Fu Xuejia.
Looking at it now, Su Su’s descent into becoming a villainess had everything to do with Fu Xuejia whispering in her ear. If Su Su were allowed to stay with her now, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Meeting Su Su’s clear, innocent eyes, Chen Jia’s attitude was resolute. “She is not a good person. Stay far away from her.”
“Huh? You know her too?” Su Su was surprised. Truthfully, she didn’t like Senior Fu Xuejia much either. Perhaps because she was used to Chen Jia’s cold exterior, Fu Xuejia’s immediate fawning and oily warmth made her extremely uncomfortable. She had been reluctant even when exchanging contact info, but had done so out of politeness. When Fu Xuejia messaged her today to hang out, she had been quite puzzled.
Chen Jia didn’t even realize how much resentment was written on her face. “Not well, but I’ve heard she’s bad news.”
Su Su looked as if she’d discovered a new continent. “Oh… you’re speaking ill of someone behind their back!”
Chen Jia’s expression flickered awkwardly. “Didn’t you say you were going to spend the evening with me? Or were you just humoring me?”
“Of course not. I didn’t say I was going to go.” She reached out and tugged at the corners of Chen Jia’s mouth. “You don’t even notice it yourself, but every time you’re unhappy, your lips press together really tightly right here.”
She pursed her lips, taking the opportunity to pour out everything she’d been wanting to say. “If you’re unhappy, you can just tell me directly. You need to let me feel that you actually care about me, too.” She thought somewhat proudly that without her, someone like Chen Jia might not even make any friends.
Like Su Su, Chen Jia hadn’t been intimately close with anyone before. But she knew that every close relationship requires constant expression of need for the other person to solidify the bond. Meeting that expectant gaze, Chen Jia followed her heart and nodded. “Yes. I care about you quite a lot.”
Hearing this, Su Su’s “tail” practically wagged up to the sky. “Well, seeing as you care about me so much, I guess I’ll dutifully stay and shop with you.”
Right in front of Chen Jia, Su Su sent a message to Fu Xuejia, rejecting the invitation.
Putting her phone down, Su Su was suddenly curious about what kind of gossip Chen Jia had heard to make her so resistant to Fu Xuejia. “I didn’t think you, usually so quiet, were such a gossip. Come on, spill it to me.”
This was difficult for Chen Jia. She wasn’t the type to slander people behind their backs, even if the person deserved it. “Just… that she isn’t a good person.”
Su Su was disappointed. “That’s it?” The term “not a good person” was too broad. Failing to find a juicy gossip point, Su Su quickly let the topic go.
As they wandered, the night market became more crowded. It was already hot, and the press of bodies made it worse. Su Su regretted buying so many things so early. Continuing the walk felt pointless.
Just as they decided to head back, a high-pitched voice cut through the noise. “Su Su!”
Su Su turned to find Fu Xuejia standing at the entrance of the night market with a group of oddly dressed young men and women, as if she had been waiting there specifically for her. At this sight, if it weren’t for politeness, Su Su would have turned and run.
“Hehe, Senior, how did you know I was here?”
“Didn’t you post a Friend Circle update earlier? I just took a guess. I didn’t expect us to be so destined! Look at you, you’re not doing anything anyway, right? My brothers here wanted to see what kind of friends I’ve made in university. Don’t mind their outfits; they’re actually all good guys. Even if you don’t believe them, don’t you believe me?”
Su Su frowned, giving her no face at all. “But I’m not even close to you. What’s the use of believing you? Besides, my message was a rejection. Surely you could see that?”
Fu Xuejia’s smile froze. A guy with bleached yellow hair behind her spoke up impatiently, “So you’re the rich chick Xuejia was talking about? You’re pretty cute.” He leaned against his motorcycle, flicking his yellow bangs in what he thought was a cool gesture. In a condescending tone, he said, “How about this: I’ve taken a liking to you. Stay with me and I’ll spoil you. Just be obedient, and I’ll give you my life.”
…
Su Su used to think these things only happened in bad novels. What normal person speaks to a girl like that? It turned out they really existed.
Su Su felt like ants were crawling all over her. She rubbed the goosebumps on her arms and looked at him like he was a mental patient. “Are you sick? Seen too many dramas? ‘Taken a liking to me’—did you even ask if I liked you? You don’t value your life, but what does that have to do with me? My life matters to me.”
This caused “Brother Feng” (the yellow-haired guy) to lose face. Some of his companions let out muffled snickers. He turned around and barked, “What are you laughing at? This broad doesn’t know what’s good for her. Let me show her what’s what.”
He rolled up his sleeves, revealing a thin arm with a tiger tattoo. Just as he looked ready to move toward Su Su, Fu Xuejia grabbed his arm.
“Brother Feng, don’t! Do it for my sake, don’t lower yourself to her level, okay?” She was busy—pacifying the “angry chick” while winking at Su Su. “Su Su, stop being stubborn. Brother Feng is a guy; you can’t win a fight. You’re the one who’ll suffer. Just apologize to him and… show a little ‘appreciation,’ and he’ll definitely forgive you.”
Su Su was happy to spend money on anything, but even if she threw her money away, she wouldn’t give it to a beggar like this. “No money. I only have one life, and I’m not giving that away either.”
Brother Feng had specifically heard that Su Su was wealthy, which is why he’d wasted so much time waiting. He hadn’t expected her to be such a “stingy iron rooster.” He thought that with her delicate looks, another scare would do it.
Meanwhile, Fu Xuejia hoped to use this opportunity to get closer to Su Su. To her, Su Su was rich, easy to fool, and easy to control. If she became close to her, she’d have an endless supply of money.
“Brother Feng! How can you threaten a girl like that? I didn’t realize you were this kind of person. Even though we’ve been friends for years, I can’t watch this. If you keep talking like that, we’re through!”
She was acting with such intensity that Su Su was starting to feel sleepy. She tugged on Chen Jia’s sleeve. “They say they’re going to hit me. What do you think?”
