Chapter 31: Sang Wei’s Statement
You Yuan is a food blogger known for his straightforward personality and for championing the underdog. Today, while browsing Weibo after posting a new video, he stumbled upon a post accusing an adopted daughter of being unfilial to her mother.
The post was from a low-brow gossip blogger who had taken things completely out of context. It featured screenshots of Mrs. An’s accusations alongside old photos of Sang Jing flaunting wealth from years ago. To a casual observer, Sang Jing looked like a materialistic “white-eyed wolf” who abandoned her foster parents the moment they fell on hard times.
Infuriated, You Yuan reposted it: “It’s because of trash like this that society is so dark. I suggest the foster parents take her to court for what they are owed.”
Because of his large following, the comments flooded in. People who already held prejudices against beautiful, successful women pounced.
“She looks heartless. Whose money was she spending back then?”
“Isn’t she the VP of Jing-Selection? All that charity work for farmers must have been a scam to fund her luxury lifestyle!”
You Yuan felt a sense of accomplishment, believing he had helped a “vulnerable mother.” The backlash was so severe that Sang Jing began losing followers in droves, with many threatening to uninstall the app. Brand partners for the upcoming Home Appliance Festival began to panic under the PR pressure.
Mrs. An, seeing the internet rally behind her, felt her spine straighten. Finally, Sang Jing will pay.
…
The Calm Counter-Attack
Finally, Sang Jing posted:
@SangJing: I am indeed grateful for the material, educational, and spiritual resources the An family provided over twenty years. While money cannot replace everything, it is the only way I can currently repay your efforts. I have hired a top-tier team of accountants and lawyers to calculate the cost of my upbringing. Once the total is reached, I will repay the An family double.
This response immediately shifted the mood. Her loyal fans, who had seen it all, joked:
“Just bought a bag of sunflower seeds on Jing-Selection. Hope this drama lasts until they arrive so I have something to snack on while I watch.”
“Our President Sang is so generous. Double? I hope the payout doesn’t bankrupt the company!”
Sang Jing felt the need to clarify one thing regarding her old “wealth-flaunting” posts. In her original life, her parents gave her 500,000 yuan a month in pocket money. In this novel world, her current biological parents gave her 1 million a month and a Rolls-Royce. But the original Sang Jing in the An family only got 50,000 a month—barely enough for one designer bag a year.
She replied to a fan: “Actually, it won’t be that much money. Most of those luxury items in my old photos were rented.”
The fans were stunned: “Wait, you were a socialite and you rented your bags? Are you just saying that to pay back less, or are you actually dropping your ‘rich girl’ persona for the sake of the bill?”
…
The Evidence Drops
While the internet was debating the “rental” claim, Sang Jing’s father, Sang Wei, posted a video through the official Jing-Selection account.
“I am using the official account because this private matter affects our company,” Sang Wei said firmly. “Mrs. An is spreading rumors of ‘unfiliality’ not because my daughter is ungrateful, but because she demanded a ‘repayment’ that Sang Jing refused to give.”
He turned the camera to a computer screen showing surveillance footage from the office. “Mrs. An barged in and demanded my daughter use Jing-Selection to dump old, outdated stock that has been rotting in their warehouse onto our users.”
He then played recordings of Mrs. An’s conversations with an internet troll farm. “When refused, she hired trolls to blacken our name and even tried to provoke a conflict between us and the Kou Corporation by dragging President Kou into the mess.”
The netizens gasped. So that’s why Kou Yan kicked them out of the malls!
Sang Wei then revealed chat logs from An Siyuan’s failed negotiation. He showed how the An parents had tried to demand special treatment, lower commissions, and higher pricing, which would have cheated the users.
“While we founded Jing-Selection, we are responsible to investors, employees, and users,” Sang Wei said, lying smoothly about the “investors” part. “If we manipulated prices for personal favors, who would trust us? I am a father first. I will not allow anyone to frame my daughter. Mrs. An, if you have complaints, come to me. My daughter is busy enjoying her life; do not disturb her again.”
…
The Aftermath
The truth hit like a sledgehammer. The evidence was too solid to ignore. Mrs. An’s “victim” status evaporated instantly.
You Yuan, the food blogger, finally saw the video. He realized he had been played by a manipulative woman and a dishonest gossip rag. He immediately deleted his previous post and issued a public apology to Sang Jing, promising to promote Jing-Selection for free as compensation.
But while the netizens forgave You Yuan, they were not so kind to the An family. The attempt to “blood-suck” a daughter and cheat customers led to a massive nationwide boycott.
“As long as those two are in charge, I will never buy an Appliance as long as I live!”
The An Group, already reeling from the Kou Corporation’s ban, was now facing a total public relations death sentence.
