- Chapter 73 - The Agreement
Just as absurd as hearing her mom ask if she’d been watching porn earlier, Lin Qi momentarily doubted her own ears. But when she looked down and saw Jiang Ming’s slightly expectant gaze, she was utterly stunned.
“You, do you know what you’re saying?”
“I do.”
The arm around Lin Qi’s neck tightened as Jiang Ming pressed her lips together, her eyes growing moist. “I want to give myself to you.”
This was absolutely lethal.
How could someone with such clear, innocent eyes say something so incongruous? First the porn, and now this, Jiang Ming had once again shattered Lin Qi’s impression of her as a shy, sensitive little bunny.
“Why do you want to give yourself to me? Because of that dream earlier? Are you still afraid I’ll abandon you?”
Jiang Ming wanted to avoid Lin Qi’s direct gaze. Though wrapped in tenderness, the confusion in those eyes still felt like an interrogation.
She knew Lin Qi was just worried about her, perplexed by her insecurities and frustrated at still being unable to provide reassurance despite all her efforts. Jiang Ming understood she shouldn’t be afraid; her mental state had noticeably improved these past days.
But when nightmares struck, all pretenses of peace crumbled.
Burying her face in the crook of Lin Qi’s neck again, the little bunny shook her head, soft hair tickling against skin. “I am scared, but not of you abandoning me. I’m just afraid… if that person from before comes back, if you’re gone, and I never got to be touched by you before you left, how heartbreaking that would be.”
The dyed hair felt dry and itchy against her neck as Lin Qi listened, her chest tightening with sharp, spreading pain.
Truthfully, she’d never considered this possibility, as if she’d taken it for granted that Jiang Ming would never leave. All her plans had been measured in lifetimes.
Like right now: there was absolutely no way Lin Qi could take Jiang Ming. Setting aside their ages, eighteen and nineteen or the fact they hadn’t even presented in this ABO world, there was the crucial matter that they were filming a show!
It was already late at night on the third and final day of mentor collaboration stage rehearsals. Tomorrow, they’d perform for an audience of thousands.
Having sex now wouldn’t just disrespect fans who’d traveled to see them, it would betray their own hard work, their teammates, and their guest performers. A great stage could make an idol, just as a terrible one could destroy both the idol and their group.
Lin Qi couldn’t be that selfish.
In her past life, she’d been a top-tier idol for two years, the industry’s acknowledged “hexagonal warrior,” excelling in every aspect. Her striking looks sparked discussions from the first promotional photos. Her singing and dancing outclassed most, a perfect blend of talent and diligence. Her professionalism was legendary, turning multiple stage mishaps into iconic moments with effortless grace.
Like the time her waist mic fell mid-performance, she’d caught it mid-air with one hand by its cord, a move fans dubbed the “Star-Sucking Technique.”
She wouldn’t call herself perfectly clear-headed, but Lin Qi knew one thing: effort yields results. Having sex the night before a performance? That was the kind of thing that would get you torn apart by fans if it got out, and haunted by your own conscience if it didn’t.
She sighed and gently patted the head of the girl nestled in her arms, forcing a light tone into her voice. “Don’t worry, I definitely won’t leave. My previous body has probably been cremated by now, turned to ashes. Where would I even go back to?”
“Isn’t there a saying? ‘Reduced to ashes and smoke.’ You really won’t just disappear suddenly, will you?”
“Your Chinese has improved quite a bit, huh? Relax, I won’t. Let’s talk about what you just mentioned after we both debut, okay?”
“Why wait until debut? Can’t we do it now? I love you, you love me, and we’re even in the same bed.”
For some reason, she suddenly burst into laughter, perhaps because Jiang Ming’s naive yet stubborn gaze reminded her of a willful child who, despite understanding nothing, was dead set on getting what she wanted.
Or maybe it was because the words she’d just spoken sounded eerily similar to a popular advertising slogan from her past life. Hearing it uttered with such earnestness made it all the more absurd.
“What are you laughing at?”
The flustered little kitten tightened her grip on her own collar. She’d mustered up the courage to say those words, only for the other girl to act so indifferent!
Her grin only widened. Lin Qi leaned down and kissed Jiang Ming’s forehead, her heart swelling with warmth and affection. A few low, suppressed chuckles escaped her throat, sounding both husky and alluring.
“I’m laughing because you’re just too adorable.”
Blushing silently, Jiang Ming tilted her head up further, her eyes gradually misting over. Her voice trembled with the threat of tears. “If you think I’m so adorable, why won’t you touch me?”
And just like that, they circled back to the same topic.
Lin Qi’s smile faded, though her tone remained gentle. “We trained all day today, and tomorrow is the performance. Do you know it might hurt the first time? If we do it now, will you even be able to dance tomorrow?”
Judging by the look in Jiang Ming’s eyes, she clearly didn’t understand. She’d probably read some steamy fiction and assumed it was all about pleasure.
“Really? You’re not lying to me?”
Clearly aware of how important the stage was, Jiang Ming quickly abandoned her earlier idea. After all, it wasn’t easy for her fans to like her in the first place. If she couldn’t deliver a solid performance, wouldn’t that just prove all the past criticisms against her right?
There would be plenty of time for that later. She just wanted to tie Lin Qi down desperately.
Her earlier fear of Lin Qi leaving, of their relationship remaining superficial, hadn’t been entirely truthful. Jiang Ming was still terrified of being abandoned. In her dreams, the face that made her heart race was always filled with cold detachment, never love.
That disdainful gaze left her feeling as though she’d been plunged into an icy abyss, trembling uncontrollably as tears streamed down her face.
Still,
“Really, I’d never lie to you. How about this? Let’s pick a day when there’s no urgent performance, no early mornings, and the setting is just right. Then we’ll do it, okay?”
Even though she’d been the one to bring it up, Jiang Ming still felt shy discussing it so openly. She nodded and raised her pinky finger. “When in Rome let’s pinky swear.”
With a smile, she extended her hand, and the two made this promise. Lin Qi rested her chin on Jiang Ming’s soft, fluffy head and, taking advantage of the fact that she couldn’t see, grinned mischievously. To meet all three conditions, it would have to be when their two-year limited group was about to disband. Only then would there be no more stages to prepare for, no need to wake up early since they’d already be solo members, and surely a few days of rest. As for the better environment, during their survival show days, they’d definitely be living in dorms, so how could that count as a good environment?
Alas, man proposes, but heaven disposes. These conditions were soon fulfilled.
