- Chapter 72.1 - Nightmare
By the time training ended, it was already 1 a.m. Lin Qi dragged her exhausted body downstairs and saw that only the thermos group’s lights were still on the other groups must have finished by midnight.
Changing direction, she headed back to the dorm. Along the way, Lin Qi felt a little uneasy. First, she had sweated so much that her hair looked slightly greasy, and her face was still flushed. Today’s training had truly drained her physically and mentally. Second, if it turned out Jiang Ming wasn’t the one who caused the phone virus, asking her about it would be really awkward!
And how should she even bring it up?
Just bluntly ask, “Did you read smut last night?”
Frustrated, she ran a hand through her hair, slowing her steps under the moonlight. But no matter how slow she walked, her long legs carried her forward, and in less than five minutes, she pushed open the dorm door.
The lights were still on. Jiang Ming sat with her back to the door at the desk, likely having already showered, now dressed in light pajamas. The room was filled with a faint floral scent, the same one Lin Qi had noticed in the blankets yesterday.
Hearing the door open, the girl who had been writing furiously turned around. Her previously curly pink hair now lay smooth and soft, making her look sweet and well-behaved. Propping her hands on the back of the chair, she smiled warmly. “You’re back? Did training wear you out?”
Lin Qi nodded, tugging at her collar to cool down. Her gaze drifted to the desk where Jiang Ming seemed to be writing something. “Yeah, a little. What are you up to?”
“Our dance practice is pretty much done, but Sister Pei’s moves are still a bit stiff. Now I’m memorizing lyrics. Since it’s an ancient-style song, there are some words I don’t recognize.”
“Oh, I see. Well, keep at it. I’ll shower first, and if there are still words you don’t know, I can teach you when I come out.”
“Alright, go shower and rest. I’ll manage on my own.”
The atmosphere was warm. Lin Qi smiled, gathered her clean sleepwear, and headed into the bathroom. Honestly, she really was grateful to Jiang Ming.
When she first arrived in this world, she had just suffered an accident, the pain of a blade piercing her left chest still made her shudder when she thought about it. Then, she met the stunningly beautiful girl who had taken her breath away at first glance, diverting her thoughts and easing her pain.
After undressing, she turned on the shower. The moment the hot water hit her skin, Lin Qi relaxed, letting her mind wander over the past two months.
If not for Jiang Ming, shifting her focus from being stabbed and transmigrating into a novel to figuring out how to earn the female lead’s forgiveness, Lin Qi thought she might have fallen into depression.
Though she appeared optimistic on the outside, humans were social creatures. One moment, she had been diligently filming, and the next, she was stabbed. Then, she found herself in the world of a book, losing her parents and friends overnight, left utterly alone.
Thankfully, there was Jiang Ming. Though their relationship had been rocky at first, thanks to the original Lin Qi’s misdeeds she had eventually won Jiang Ming’s affection through her own charm.
As she lathered up with body wash, Lin Qi recalled the scene when she entered the dorm earlier. The lights were bright, Jiang Ming sat at the desk studying characters, and they exchanged a few casual words effortless, comfortable, as close as family.
Coming home late at night to a light left on for you, with someone waiting beneath it that had to be the coziest feeling in the world.
Drying her hair with a towel, she stepped out. By the time she finished washing up, it was already half past one.
Lin Qi approached Jiang Ming, who had fallen asleep at the desk with her chin propped in her hand. Glancing down, she noticed the printed lyrics covered in neat, elegant annotations circles and notes that looked like something a diligent high school class president would write.
Placing one hand behind Jiang Ming’s shoulder and the other under her knees, Lin Qi carefully lifted her and carried her to the bed.
The girl in her arms was sound asleep, undisturbed by the movement. Lin Qi couldn’t help but smile when she noticed Jiang Ming occasionally smacking her lips, as if dreaming of eating something delicious. Gently, she laid her down on the bed.
Just as Lin Qi was pulling the blanket over her, Jiang Ming’s arms suddenly wrapped around her neck. With a soft, amused sigh, Lin Qi leaned down, her voice warm and teasing, “What? Trying to eat me?”
No sooner had she spoken than the arms around her neck tightened. With both hands still holding the blanket, Lin Qi lost her balance and ended up hovering over Jiang Ming, their faces suddenly inches apart.
Beneath her, the girl’s sweet, delicate features were flushed, her rosy lips slightly puckered as if asking for a kiss.
Lin Qi forced herself to look away, bracing her hands on either side of Jiang Ming’s shoulders to push herself up. But the arms around her refused to let go, like a stubborn child, Jiang Ming seemed determined not to let her leave and pulled her back down.
From palms to elbows, their proximity narrowed until their noses nearly touched. Lin Qi’s cheeks burned, her gaze darkening as her voice dropped to a whisper, “You asked for this.”
Leaning in, she brushed her lips against Jiang Ming’s slightly parted ones soft, sweet, and tender. Now it was her turn to savor something delicious.
“Mmm…”
Struggling to breathe in her dream, Jiang Ming squirmed, resisting the kiss. But Lin Qi, who had initially intended not to take advantage of a sleeping girl, found herself unable to resist the repeated provocations.
The sensation of their lips meeting was intoxicatingly soft, the warmth of Jiang Ming’s breath mingling with hers. Surrounded by the girl’s sweet fragrance, Lin Qi had closed her eyes, until she felt the once-unresponsive lips begin to kiss her back. Just as she was about to open her eyes, trembling hands covered them, plunging her into darkness.
Every touch became magnified, the plush curve of Jiang Ming’s lips, the delicate shape of her mouth. What had started as a fleeting kiss now filled Lin Qi with reluctance to pull away.
Jiang Ming, too, was unwilling to stop at just a taste. This was the person she had longed to entwine with even in her dreams.
Time seemed to stretch endlessly until a single tear escaped Jiang Ming’s lashes, tracing a glistening path down her flushed cheek. Her damp, phoenix-like eyes shimmered with tenderness under the light, silently inviting Lin Qi to continue. But the moment their gazes met, the shy girl flinched at the burning desire in Lin Qi’s eyes, suddenly recalling the words she had read the night before. With a start, she turned away, burying herself under the covers, leaving only her delicate profile exposed.
What a heartless woman kissing her and then running away.
Lin Qi chuckled softly, her voice low and husky, laced with temptation. “Since you missed me so much last night that you slept in my bed, how about we share it tonight?”
Share it…?
Countless words and various positions flashed through her mind. Jiang Ming pulled the blanket even tighter over herself, shaking her head firmly. “N-no, I don’t want to.”
“Why not? Is it because your thoughts aren’t pure? Oh, right.”
After hesitating for a moment, Lin Qi cleared her throat and tentatively broached the topic she had been curious about. “Um, I heard from my mom today that my phone got a virus from looking at some, inappropriate things. Nuo Nuo, did you look at anything last night?”
As soon as these words were spoken, Jiang Ming felt her face burning up as if it were steaming. She tugged the blanket higher, covering even her eyebrows. Her muffled voice came from under the covers, “I, I didn’t look at anything.”
That pretty much confirmed it. Lin Qi knew Jiang Ming too well. If she hadn’t done it, if she were innocent, she would have emerged from the blanket by now, looking at her with clear, guileless eyes, asking, “Look at what?”
Unable to hold back her laughter, Lin Qi got up to turn off the light. Once the room was dark, she lifted the blanket and climbed into Jiang Ming’s bed. Lying on her side, she wrapped an arm around the slender waist, her tone teasing. “My mom went to the police station and the bank to check. They said the phone got infected from reading, erotic stories.”
The hand resting on her waist felt scorching hot. Jiang Ming trembled slightly, her face now impossibly red. But she stubbornly clung to her denial, how could she let Lin Qi know she had been reading those things alone in the dorm last night?
“W-what erotic stories? I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You don’t know what they are? Erotic stories are… novels about two people doing… that kind of thing.”
“W-what kind of thing. ?”
The person in her arms was still playing dumb. Lin Qi was nearly dying of laughter, both marveling at how Jiang Ming, who appeared so aloof and ethereal on the outside but was soft and sweet inside could also read such things, and finding her current flustered, speechless state utterly adorable.
