Transmigrated Into the Stand-In of the Tragic Novel’s Heroine - Chapter 20
The banner fluttered in the wind.
A glance at the rectangular characters indicated that students from Gantan High School were holding a practical activity here.
He Yanjin knew that Chang Yishao was inside, but her mood wasn’t light because she hadn’t seen Chang Yishao. Instead, she was blocked outside by Qi Yu.
The reality show she was participating in was recommended by Zhou Yunmeng and invested in by Yunmeng Entertainment. She didn’t know what Zhou Yunmeng’s intentions were, only that she had to rely on the formidable backing of Yunmeng Entertainment, and therefore could not refuse or offend them. Forget the firing process, she had no interest in these handicrafts, yet she had to endure the boredom and annoyance of memorizing a long list of lines.
This used to be Chang Yishao’s passion, but because of her strong dislike for it, Chang Yishao had tossed it all away. Thinking of this, He Yanjin felt a bit smug. The fact that Chang Yishao had changed so much for her was enough proof of her sincerity.
“You’ve come to the wrong place,” Qi Yu’s tone was cold, her eyes frigid, like the moonlight in deep winter.
He Yanjin disliked dealing with Qi Yu—in fact, she disliked interacting with any of Chang Yishao’s friends. Through them, she was reminded time and again that she and Chang Yishao were not truly compatible. Their family backgrounds, education, interests, and philosophies were all so different.
She had once been desperately in love with Chang Yishao’s flamboyance, but eventually grew to despise it. Chang Yishao had changed as she wished, but she had become a completely different person, a stranger even to her. “Is Yishao here?” He Yanjin’s smile was flawless, seemingly shimmering in the sunlight.
Qi Yu subtly took a step back. She disliked He Yanjin’s hypocrisy.
“She’s not here,” Qi Yu pursed her lips and lied.
He Yanjin was skeptical. She scrutinized Qi Yu, wanting to push past her, but slowly let go of the idea. Even if Qi Er wasn’t willing to inherit the family business, this was still considered her territory.
“Teacher He! Teacher He!” An urgent voice reached He Yanjin’s ears.
He Yanjin’s brow furrowed abruptly. Hearing the voice, she immediately knew it was someone from the production crew looking for her. Her eyes darkened with gloom, but when she turned to face the person, it transformed into a bright smile. “Sis, why did you come over?” she asked the hurriedly approaching woman in a warm, intimate tone. She added, “I took a wrong turn, and I was just worrying about how to find the place.”
Qi Yu watched He Yanjin’s face and sneered.
The woman didn’t overthink it, merely letting out a sigh of relief, and quickly said, “Earlier, I saw someone who looked somewhat like you over there, and I almost mistook her. That young lady pointed me in this direction, so I came over to check.” She paused, then added, “Teacher He, let’s go quickly, everyone is waiting.”
He Yanjin’s eyes flickered.
A woman who looked like her? She immediately thought of the streamer named “Tang Xi,” Chang Yishao’s current girlfriend. Her mood suddenly grew heavy. When the production crew member pointed towards Xie Qingtang’s resting spot, she could no longer suppress the turbulent emotions boiling inside her. “Sis, I have something to take care of, I’ll be right there.”
The woman, already annoyed by He Yanjin wandering off, felt a flicker of frustration and subtle contempt in her eyes when she heard this. She knew He Yanjin was a singer, but just a singer. She was only able to enter Yunmeng because of the young miss. Yet, He Yanjin seemed not to notice her expression, walking towards Xie Qingtang as if possessed.
If it hadn’t been for the constant interruptions, Xie Qingtang’s stolen moment of leisure would have certainly been pleasant.
But after she pointed the way, someone else came over, addressing her with an antagonistic tone of “is that all you are?” Was she cursed or something?! Xie Qingtang impatiently pulled down the hand covering her eyes. She lazily looked at the person she should only see on screen or in photos, and asked, “Lost your way again?”
When He Yanjin arrived, she had intended to say, “You must be the streamer called ‘Tang Xi’,” and she knew her voice wasn’t quiet, yet the other person ignored her. He Yanjin was already harboring frustration, and this only made her more irritated. “Are you the one harassing Yishao?” Her tone carried an air of condescending arrogance, making it seem like the legitimate partner catching an affair.
“Harassing?” Xie Qingtang repeated the word, letting out a low chuckle. Under the current circumstances, it was sort of true, wasn’t it? She steadied the leg she had propped up on the ground and sat up straight, looking at He Yanjin, who was slightly shorter than her. Tilting her head, she said, “Are you the ex who won’t die peacefully and is now doing a graveyard dance?”
He Yanjin’s face turned crimson with anger at these words. Besides Chang Yishao, she rarely lost her temper with anyone; whenever something happened, she only needed to shed tears, and someone would naturally resolve it for her. Stung by Xie Qingtang’s words, she couldn’t even retort. After a long pause, she finally managed to utter, “No manners!”
“I apologize, I have no manners. No one taught me, so I can’t be like Miss He, who can play both sides and become the cheating girl.” Xie Qingtang didn’t actually want to fully unleash her role as the antagonistic cannon fodder against the female lead, but she simply couldn’t control her nasty temper. Blame it on her mouth that seemed to speak on its own. In her previous mission worlds, she was a tyrant, how could she let others “lecture” her?
He Yanjin felt even dizzier, her heart racing abnormally, seemingly ready to burst out of her chest.
She had made a mistake, but how could Chang Yishao tell this to anyone, letting others turn it into a joke? Fuming, He Yanjin became reckless and hysterical, resembling the kind of person she used to despise. “Do you think by clinging to Chang Yishao, she’ll stay with you forever? She’s only after novelty; she’ll dump you sooner or later. I’ve known her for ten years. Can ten years of affection not outweigh an outsider like you?”
“Do you know what she used to be like? Do you know her dashing demeanor when she was rock climbing or racing? Do you know her quiet purity when she played the piano? Do you know what she likes? Do you think she is just the way you see her now?”
“You don’t understand Chang Yishao; you’ll never know.”
“You don’t know her vibrant past. You only see her current calmness, but you can’t see her sickness and her madness!”
Xie Qingtang: “…” She didn’t know her past, but she did now.
He Yanjin didn’t quite fit her image of the female lead, but remembering some past collapsed worlds, she felt a sense of relief. But Chang Yishao being sick? That was quite a large piece of information.
Seeing Xie Qingtang remain silent, He Yanjin stopped talking and coldly sneered.
The production crew members in the distance were calling her again.
He Yanjin glanced at Xie Qingtang, her eyes filled with arrogance and disdain.
Xie Qingtang, having been verbally attacked by He Yanjin, was unhappy. Seeing He Yanjin turn to leave, she didn’t want to let her off easy.
A curl of her lip, her eyes filled with a light smile, she said, “Miss He, have you forgotten? That was just your past, and the future only belongs to me.”
