- Transmigrated into the Scumbag Ex-Wife of the Prime Minister
- Chapter 57 - Is she going to confess?
“What is it?” Lu Sheng asked.
She really couldn’t think of anything she could do to help Lin Shuqing.
Lin Shuqing looked at her and said softly, “Could Xiao Sheng accompany me to Baiyun Temple tomorrow?”
“Baiyun Temple?” Lu Sheng asked, puzzled.
“Yes, tomorrow is the fifteenth day of the month, and I want to offer incense and oil money for my mother.” Lin Shuqing’s eyes were half-lowered, and her voice was a little low, “I don’t have any other friends in Binhe County, so I thought of asking Xiao Sheng to come with me.”
Hearing her say this, Lu Sheng remembered that the first time she met Lin Shuqing was at Baiyun Temple. At that time, she was in the cave on the back mountain and also saw Lin Shuqing, who had the same lonely expression.
It turned out that she was offering incense and oil money for her mother then.
“How can this be called helping? I’ll just go with you.” Remembering her background, Lu Sheng didn’t ask further and readily agreed, “It just so happens that I can also offer some incense and oil money for my father.”
Lin Shuqing had helped her with so many things; accompanying her to Baiyun Temple was no trouble at all.
“Mhm.” Lin Shuqing smiled, her eyebrows curving, and continued, “Oh, and there’s one more thing I need to tell you. The Five-Grain Wine is selling quite well at my family’s restaurant. I’d like to order some more.”
“Sure, how much more?”
“Three thousand catties a month.”
“Three thousand catties a month?” Lu Sheng was surprised.
The winery currently produces five to six thousand catties of wine a month at most. Lin Shuqing had just ordered half a month’s worth.
This was truly a big deal, and a long-term one that would happen every month.
Lu Sheng lightly coughed and said, “Why does it feel like I’m being helped by you again?”
“No, not at all. Seriously, it should be Xiao Sheng helping me.” Lin Shuqing praised her with a smile, “The shopkeepers reported back to me that with Xiao Sheng’s Five-Grain Wine, the business at our family’s restaurants has significantly improved.”
Hearing her say this, the feeling of disparity in Lu Sheng’s heart immediately lessened.
Lin Shuqing was truly skilled at talking.
The sun climbed over the treetops and hung diagonally in the sky; the sparse sunlight filtered down, cool and faint, without a trace of heat.
After the two finished eating, they returned to the shop. Lu Sheng asked Liu Yun to write a wine-ordering contract for Lin Shuqing.
After Lin Shuqing left, Liu Yun couldn’t help but ask curiously, “Xiao Sheng, who is that person?”
Lin Shuqing was dressed gorgeously and had an elegant temperament. She didn’t look like an ordinary person, and she had ordered so much wine in one go.
“A friend,” Lu Sheng said with a smile.
“Oh, right.” Liu Yun wiped the counter, turned to Lu Sheng, and said, “Before you came back, Scholar Qi came out looking for you once.”
“She was looking for me?” Lu Sheng carefully put away the contract, glanced towards the back courtyard, and asked, “Did she say what it was about?”
Liu Yun shook her head, “She only asked if you were back.”
“I’ll go find her in the back. If there are many customers, call me.” Lu Sheng instructed her and headed to the back courtyard.
“Alright.”
Upon reaching the study, Lu Sheng quickly scanned the room but didn’t see Qi Zhenshu.
Huh? Where did she go?
Lu Sheng thought for a moment, turned, and went to the bedroom, where she indeed saw Qi Zhenshu on the small couch.
Qi Zhenshu was lying on her side on the couch, resting her head on her right hand, her eyes closed, and her breathing shallow. It looked like she was asleep.
Her body was slightly curled up, and she was only wearing a thin, long cotton garment.
Lu Sheng furrowed her brow slightly.
Sleeping like this without a blanket in such cold weather would likely lead to catching a cold and getting sick.
She took two steps closer, intending to wake her up to sleep in the bed. Just as she bent down and raised her hand to lightly touch Qi Zhenshu’s shoulder.
The person who had been closing her eyes suddenly woke up, her dark brown eyes half-closed, a dazed look mixed with puzzled astonishment.
For some reason, Lu Sheng suddenly had the illusion that she had been caught trying to steal a kiss.
She hurriedly straightened up, gave a slight cough, and explained somewhat stutteringly, “I-I saw you weren’t, weren’t covered, so I thought of waking you up to sleep on the bed. I wasn’t trying to steal a kiss from you.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, Lu Sheng felt like crying over her own stupidity.
What in the world was she saying?!
The way she said it, it sounded entirely like a guilty person protesting their innocence too much.
She turned her head to look at Qi Zhenshu, only to see her beautiful eyes slightly widened, the astonishment in them even more obvious.
It was over. This was truly impossible to explain now.
Lu Sheng was on the verge of tears. If she had really wanted to steal a kiss, that would be one thing.
But she clearly just wanted to wake her up. She had absolutely no intention of stealing a kiss!
Qi Zhenshu took in the expression on her face, her lips curved slightly, and she slowly sat up, calling out, “Lu Sheng.”
“Hm?” Lu Sheng looked at her, completely flustered, her face flushed crimson.
I’ve been truly wronged!
Looking at those innocent big eyes, Qi Zhenshu found it amusing inside, but her expression remained calm as she said softly, “We are wives.”
“Huh?” Lu Sheng tilted her head, confused.
Immediately after, a continuous display of fireworks went off in her mind, dazzling Lu Sheng’s eyes.
She stared wide-eyed at Qi Zhenshu, trying to process the meaning of that sentence with a heart full of disbelief.
What did she mean, ‘they are wives’?
They are wives.
They are wives, so stealing a kiss is allowed?
Was that what Qi Zhenshu meant?
Seeing the dazed Lu Sheng, the amusement in Qi Zhenshu’s eyes grew stronger.
This person’s reaction was truly interesting, making her want to tease her a bit more.
“Lu Sheng.” Qi Zhenshu suppressed her smile and called her again.
“Ah?” Lu Sheng looked at her, her face red.
What was Qi Zhenshu going to say?
She’s not going to confess to me, is she?
“You and I are wives, so naturally, I believe what you say. I believe you are not the kind of person who would casually take liberties with others.”
Qi Zhenshu’s expression was serious, but when she said the words ‘take liberties’, she paused deliberately and gave Lu Sheng a meaningful look.
The colorful fireworks instantly vanished. Lu Sheng blinked rapidly and stared blankly at Qi Zhenshu.
Uh.
So, that’s what she meant?
With such a dramatic swing in emotions, Lu Sheng’s brain was running half a beat slow, and she completely missed the teasing tone in her words.
Seeing the look of disappointment on her face, a feeling of distress rose in Qi Zhenshu’s heart, regretting that she shouldn’t have teased her anymore.
She stood up from the couch, took a step closer, and held her hand.
Lu Sheng looked up in surprise.
“You weren’t trying to steal a kiss just now.” Qi Zhenshu looked down at her, her voice gentle and penetrating, “Then what was the meaning of last night?”
“Y-you, you.” Lu Sheng’s eyes were wide, her face terribly red, and she stuttered, “You knew I was pretending to be asleep?”
Her movements yesterday were so obvious, of course, the intelligent Qi Zhenshu would have noticed.
If that was the case, did she also realize that Lu Sheng had deliberately gotten the blanket wet yesterday?
Thinking of this, Lu Sheng suddenly felt that having a wife who was too clever wasn’t entirely a good thing.
“You still haven’t answered my question.” Qi Zhenshu’s thumb stroked the back of her hand, a smile touching the corner of her eye as she repeated the question, “What did you mean by hugging me last night?”
Lu Sheng couldn’t bring herself to say that she wanted to test if the other woman liked her. She lowered her head and mumbled, “I… I just wanted a hug.”
Qi Zhenshu chuckled softly. Lu Sheng was so embarrassed she didn’t dare to look up.
Shyness, joy, nervousness, excitement—a rush of complex and tangled emotions surged into her heart.
Dong dong dong dong.
Her heart beat faster and faster, and Lu Sheng was so nervous that her palms began to sweat.
What should she do next? What should she say?
No, she was too nervous.
“Xiao Sheng, Xiao Sheng.” Liu Yun’s voice came from the courtyard entrance.
“Yes!” Lu Sheng suddenly snapped back to attention and quickly responded.
“I’ll go attend to business first.” Lu Sheng pulled her hand free, quickly threw out that sentence, and ran out the door.
Looking at the person who had frantically run out the door, the slight raise in Qi Zhenshu’s eyebrows did not fall for a long time.
Even after the customers had left, Lu Sheng sat on the chair, still feeling dizzy and slightly disbelieving of what had just happened.
Did she and Qi Zhenshu count as having expressed their feelings now?
It should count, right?
As soon as she thought of this, Lu Sheng’s heart bloomed with joy.
When it was the Shen hour (3-5 PM), Lu Sheng happily went out to pick up Tangtang and bring her home, and she bought a lot of delicious food on the way.
The moonlight was hazy.
Lu Sheng put her daughter, whom she had just tucked in, onto the bed. Qi Zhenshu walked in, carrying the quilt that Lu Sheng had ‘accidentally’ gotten wet last night.
Guiltily glancing sideways, Lu Sheng scooted her own quilt inward, slid down, and half-buried her face in the blanket.
She figured they probably wouldn’t be sleeping under the same blanket tonight.
Instead, Qi Zhenshu simply folded the dried quilt and placed it in the cabinet.
She blew out the candle, lifted the blanket, and lay down beside Lu Sheng, explaining with a serious expression, “The night is cold, so it’s warmer to sleep under one blanket.”
“Mhm.” Lu Sheng nodded knowingly, having no objection to her suggestion.
The room became silent for a moment.
Lu Sheng quietly moved closer to Qi Zhenshu, turned onto her side, and pressed against her arm as she had done the night before.
But today, before she could make any further move, Qi Zhenshu turned over and simply wrapped her in her embrace.
Lu Sheng’s heart skipped a beat. She froze and did not dare to move.
After a moment, a pair of warm hands patted her back, “Go to sleep quickly. It’s getting late.”
Now she was even less able to sleep.
Lu Sheng finally drifted into a daze and fell asleep after counting sheep for who knows how long.
The next day.
It wasn’t until they were eating that Lu Sheng remembered she had forgotten to tell Qi Zhenshu about going to Baiyun Temple today.
“Shuqing invited me to go to Baiyun Temple with her today,” Lu Sheng said to Qi Zhenshu as she scooped out the boiled eggs.
Qi Zhenshu frowned slightly upon hearing this and asked in a calm voice, “Why are you going to Baiyun Temple?”
“Today is the fifteenth. She’s going to offer incense and oil money for her mother,” Lu Sheng explained. “I thought it would be a good time to offer some for my father, too. Do you want to come with us?”
“I won’t go,” Qi Zhenshu said, taking the bowl from Lu Sheng’s hand. “I made plans with Sister Yu to visit her today.”
She looked down, peeled an egg, and put it in her daughter’s bowl. She then reached for another one, looked at Lu Sheng, and asked, “Will you come back right after offering the incense and oil money?”
“Mhm.” Lu Sheng nodded, “There shouldn’t be anything else.”
Qi Zhenshu did not speak again, but simply placed the peeled egg she was holding into Lu Sheng’s bowl.
Lu Sheng picked up the egg and took a bite, smiling happily.
After they finished eating, Qi Nan drove the ox cart to deliver wine. Lu Sheng asked her to stay and help Liu Yun look after the wine shop’s business.
