Transmigrated Into the Cannon Fodder Roommate in a BL Novel - Chapter 2
The dormitory was only two hundred meters away from the cafeteria. Between them was a straight path paved with stone bricks, with camphor trees planted on both sides.
The sunlight steamed the leaves, and the noise of the cicadas was incredibly loud. People on the road were sparse; An Cheng and Bai Qing walked among them as mottled circles of light fell upon them.
When Bai Qing wasn’t paying attention, An Cheng stole frequent side-glances.
Back in the dormitory, Bai Qing had been sitting most of the time, so An Cheng hadn’t felt much. Now, walking side-by-side, he realized something belatedly:
As the total shou of an NP novel, wasn’t Bai Qing’s stature a bit too tall? He looked about the same as An Cheng, at least 182cm or taller.
Bai Qing turned his body slightly, the halo of light tracing a bright circle on his white T-shirt.
“Thank you for helping me out just now. Let me treat you to this meal.”
“No need.” An Cheng’s face maintained a frigid expression. “I was just looking for someone to eat with.”
He vaguely remembered that Bai Qing’s family was not well-off; in fact, they could be described as poor.
Bai Qing smiled and didn’t push. “Are you also in the Finance Department?”
Most freshmen in the same major are assigned to the same dormitory, but there are exceptions.
An Cheng recalled for a moment. “Yes.”
“Then we should be in the same class. Let’s coordinate when it’s time to choose electives.”
An Cheng had exactly this intention. After all, Bai Qing’s constitution easily attracted perverts. If he didn’t keep a close eye, that hundred million assets he was about to get his hands on might fly away.
An Cheng: “Mhm.”
As soon as they entered the cafeteria, a wave of heat hit them, as if they had walked into a vegetable greenhouse, making one subconsciously hold their breath and frown.
The cafeteria auntie at the door was also covered in sweat, fanning herself with a small booklet. “The air conditioning in the cafeteria is broken today. Students, please bear with it.”
No wonder there weren’t many people inside.
Bai Qing had already stepped inside. His exposed skin was a cold white, he looked as if he weren’t afraid of the heat.
He turned to see An Cheng still standing at the door. “Going in, An Cheng?”
For his first meal after entering this world, An Cheng faced such a harsh environment; his heart bled.
Fortunately, the food was decent. There was a wide variety, and it had the flavors of the Southwest region.
You didn’t need a meal card at the Finance University cafeteria; you could just scan your face to pay. An Cheng scanned his face several times and, after getting his food, began to search for Bai Qing.
Bai Qing had already found a seat and waved to An Cheng.
An Cheng walked over and sat down, inadvertently glancing at the food in Bai Qing’s bowl.
One meat dish, one vegetable dish, and a bowl of rice.
The meat wasn’t even purely meat—it was just a few shredded strips of meat placed inside green peppers.
Compared to An Cheng’s massive tray, full of various colors, Bai Qing’s food tray looked a bit pitiful.
An Cheng pretended not to see and lowered his head to eat.
In his mind, the kitten’s figure appeared, its expression actually somewhat teasing.
“Aren’t you going to give him some of your food? He’s your roommate, after all. For such a tall guy, how can he be full on just that?”
Having transmigrated as a cool guy, An Cheng could only let his true nature fly and speak freely when facing the kitten.
“Giving gifts for no reason suggests an ulterior motive. Besides, being too enthusiastic doesn’t fit my persona.”
Opposite him, Bai Qing took two bites and put down his chopsticks, wiping his mouth as if he didn’t intend to eat anymore.
An Cheng stopped picking at his food and looked up. He found that Bai Qing’s face had turned flush red, and his eyes carried traces of watery mist, looking as if he were about to cry.
Noticing An Cheng’s gaze, Bai Qing quickly pulled out two tissues and pressed them against his eye sockets.
His voice was a bit hoarse. “It’s a bit spicy, I’m not used to it. Keep eating, don’t mind me.”
An Cheng remembered that Bai Qing was from B-City, where the food is bland and some dishes even have sugar added. He indeed couldn’t eat spicy food, but…
An Cheng glanced at the dish in his bowl. Could green pepper with shredded pork be that spicy?
Bai Qing also felt a bit embarrassed. “It’s just a physiological reaction. I’m fine.”
Just as An Cheng was about to say something, his shoulder was patted. He turned his head to see a tall boy with a buzz cut standing beside him, his tone intimate and shiftless. “Cheng-ge, you just entered the school and you’ve already bullied a classmate to tears? That’s not very good.”
An Cheng had the original owner’s memories and recognized this person as An Cheng’s good buddy, Qi Le. They had been classmates from elementary to high school and were brothers who shared the same pair of pants, usually hanging out together.
Bai Qing hurriedly explained, “No, I just got hit by the spiciness.”
Qi Le smiled and shook his head. “I was just joking. Cheng-ge wouldn’t just bully people randomly.”
The two of them finished the conversation between themselves, the cold An Cheng didn’t even have time to say a single word.
“Right!” Qi Le leaned over and patted An Cheng’s chest.
The invisible man An Cheng pushed him away. “Enough. Which building is your dorm in?”
“Zhiyuan Building A, third floor. we should be together.”
An Cheng nodded.
“Wanna play basketball together tonight? Once military training starts tomorrow, we won’t be able to.”
An Cheng also quite liked playing basketball. In his last world, which was set in ancient times, he hadn’t touched a basketball for over thirty years.
Hearing this now, his hands felt a bit itchy. He wanted to nod and agree, but he was worried about what might happen with Bai Qing and Chen He in the dorm.
Fortunately, Qi Le spoke up for him. “You’re Cheng-ge’s roommate, right? Come join us tonight?”
Bai Qing’s tears had already dried, and his eyes sparkled when he smiled. “Sure, then I’ll go find you guys with Cheng-ge.”
Hearing Qi Le constantly calling An Cheng “Cheng-ge,” Bai Qing also inadvertently changed his form of address. It rolled off the tongue a bit easier than “An Cheng.”
After Qi Le left, An Cheng looked at Bai Qing. “Do you know how to play basketball?”
There wasn’t a hint of mockery, it was just a calm question. An Cheng asked this because the novel hadn’t mentioned this matter.
Bai Qing nodded. “A little, but I’m very amateur.”
An Cheng laughed. “Who isn’t an amateur?”
Realizing his persona was a bit “OOC,” An Cheng suppressed his smile.
“You’re going to play basketball tonight and you’re eating this little?”
This question hit the nail on the head. Bai Qing also felt it made sense. “But I really can’t eat this dish anymore. Forget it, I’ll go get another portion.”
An Cheng waved his hand to stop him and pushed his own plate of sweet and sour pork tenderloin toward Bai Qing. This tenderloin was served in a separate small bowl; the color was enticing, and the taste was decent.
“I don’t really eat sweet things. I only took one bite. You eat this.”
Bai Qing was somewhat surprised and hesitated to speak, but seeing that An Cheng had already lowered his head to eat, he swallowed his words and changed them to, “Thank you.”
In An Cheng’s mind, the kitten rolled around, its tone sarcastic.
“Didn’t you say it would break the persona?”
An Cheng’s face remained cold. “With this freezing look of mine, have I broken the persona?”
The class meeting was at 7:00 PM. An Cheng and Bai Qing didn’t return to the dormitory; they went directly to the classroom.
The classroom was large, with rows of seats extending backward, estimated to hold three hundred people.
Many people were already sitting in the center seats, most of them girls.
This was easy to understand; the enrollment rate for girls in the Finance major was very high.
As soon as An Cheng and Bai Qing entered the door, many gazes looked over in a collective “salute,” the surprise in their eyes as if they had seen a rare species.
An Cheng did a rough scan and picked a seat in the back row.
Bai Qing smiled at the girls looking over, followed behind An Cheng, and sat down next to him.
An Cheng had a reason for picking this spot. If any boy shamelessly kept looking back, he would definitely take note and absolutely not give them a chance to get close to Bai Qing.
On the blackboard, the hands of the clock gradually pointed toward seven o’clock. People began to arrive one after another.
Chen He arrived with Wang Qimeng.
Chen He saw Bai Qing at a glance and walked straight over to sit beside him. “You guys arrived so early.”
An Cheng felt regret. He had missed a move—he shouldn’t have left an empty seat next to Bai Qing!
Wang Qimeng sat next to An Cheng, carefully controlling the distance between them, sitting very obediently.
After sitting down, regardless of whether An Cheng was looking his way, he gave a friendly smile as a greeting.
An Cheng didn’t want to hurt the honest guy’s kindness. He squeezed out two words that didn’t damage his persona, saying calmly, “You’re here.”
Wang Qimeng was somewhat overwhelmed by the favor and nodded. “Yes, I came right after eating.”
At the door, a boy dressed casually walked into the classroom with long strides.
He walked to the podium, his behavior casual yet generous, possessing great crowd-control ability.
“Hello everyone, my name is Li Yu. I’m your teaching assistant and also a senior two years above you. For the next year, I will be with all of you.”
Li Yu looked at the young faces below and stated the theme of today’s class meeting: “Our task today is very relaxed. We’re just going to play games to get everyone a bit more familiar with each other.”
Bai Qing saw through the essence at a glance and whispered to An Cheng: “Actually, it’s just ‘ice-breaking.'”
An Cheng knew that for an extrovert person, this wasn’t really an issue, but for an extrovert person who had to pretend to be a cold, aloof guy, it was a bit cringe-inducing.
Li Yu tapped the blackboard. “Alright, now everyone report your birth month, starting from the first row.”
When it reached An Cheng’s row, it started with Chen He. “January.”
Bai Qing: “August.”
An Cheng’s face didn’t change color. “August.”
No one was going to separate him and Bai Qing.
Wang Qimeng: “March.”
Chen He seized the opportunity to find a topic. “Bai Qing, I’m a bit older than you. You should call me Chen-ge from now on.”
Bai Qing didn’t respond immediately. He subconsciously glanced toward An Cheng, his mind racing.
“I’ll call you He-ge.”
Because An Cheng was also called Cheng-ge; although the sounds were slightly different, it was inevitable to hear them wrong.
Chen He naturally didn’t mind. “Either is fine.”
After everyone finished reporting, Li Yu clapped his hands. “Good. Now, people born in the same month sit together.”
Chen He didn’t expect this move and had no choice but to separate from Bai Qing, while An Cheng continued to stay with Bai Qing.
The area where the two were sitting happened to be assigned to those with August birthdays. Quite a few people gathered around one after another. Since they weren’t familiar, they sat together awkwardly—some playing with their phones, some picking at their fingers.
A bolder girl sat in Chen He’s former seat and whispered to ask for Bai Qing’s WeChat. Bai Qing gave her the QR code on his phone, and many girls took the chance to add him.
An Cheng didn’t take it seriously. The mission was to protect the buttocks, not anything else.
As for the matter of studying for graduate school, that was three years away. He couldn’t stop the guy from having a girlfriend.
The girl next to An Cheng also wanted to ask for his WeChat, but seeing his ‘keeping people a thousand miles away’ coldness, she ultimately didn’t ask.
Li Yu saw that everyone was seated. “I’ll give everyone three minutes. Everyone must memorize the names and hometowns of their group members. Later, I’ll do a spot check. If you can’t answer, there will be a punishment! So, everyone, do your best.”
An Cheng saw there were over a dozen people born in August. His vision went dark, and he simply gave up, slumping in his chair to begin meditating.
The atmosphere was inexplicably oppressive.
Bai Qing noticed it and found it a bit funny. He considerately leaned close and whispered, “It’s okay, I’ll remind you.”
But when it actually came time to call on An Cheng, they found the feasibility was very low.
Li Yu stood right beside An Cheng, holding the microphone and pointing at a girl. “What is this girl’s name?”
An Cheng: “…”
Bai Qing whispered: “Her name is Lin—”
Li Yu laughingly complained: “This student isn’t allowed to give reminders!”
An Cheng spoke coldly, “I don’t know.”
Li Yu pointed at another one. “How about this one?”
“I don’t know.”
“And this one?”
“I don’t know.”
Li Yu laughed and finally pointed at Bai Qing. “And this boy?”
An Cheng: “Bai Qing, B-City.”
Li Yu patted An Cheng’s shoulder. “For such a handsome young man, only remembering the boys’ names won’t do.”
“There’s a punishment for not being able to answer. Your punishment is to add every single classmate in the class as a friend.”
An Cheng: “…”
By the time the class meeting ended, it was already 9:00 PM.
At 8:00, Qi Le had already started frantically sending messages to An Cheng’s WeChat. As a result, they had left the guy waiting in the hot summer night for an hour.
An Cheng and Bai Qing planned to go straight to the court instead of returning to the dorm first.
The dormitory and the court were in the same direction. When they reached the dorm, Chen He noticed they didn’t plan to go inside and asked, “Where are you two going?”
Bai Qing: “We’re going to play basketball.”
Chen He immediately said, “I know how to play too. Add me in!”
“This is Cheng-ge’s game. I don’t know if they’re still short on people.”
An Cheng walked forward. “If you want to play, come.”
Good lad, since you’re coming, I’ll let you feel what it’s like to get wrecked.
Adding all those worlds together, the total time he had spent playing basketball was longer than Chen He’s entire life.
On the court, Chen He’s original intention was to show off in front of Bai Qing; he had been on the school team in high school and his skills were quite good.
But the scene was completely different from what he had imagined. An Cheng, relying on his height, blocked his shots several times. When An Cheng dribbled, he made Chen He look like he was playing with a monkey.
This An Cheng guy was so cold, yet he played basketball so fiercely.
The more Chen He played, the heavier his breathing became. Finally, saying he needed to rest, he retreated to the sidelines.
Bai Qing stayed on the court. His skills were a bit worse, but no one targeted him, and he was on the same team as An Cheng, so he played quite contentedly.
An Cheng fed the ball into Bai Qing’s hands. Bai Qing bent his legs and jumped, using his arms to throw a beautiful three-pointer.
Qi Le patted Bai Qing’s shoulder. “Brother, I couldn’t tell! Your aim is so good.”
Bai Qing wiped the sweat from his forehead. He was very tired but very happy, replying with a smile, “Compared to Le-ge and Cheng-ge, I’m still far off.”
On the other side.
The ball that hit the ground was picked up by An Cheng. An Cheng bounced it and suddenly said, “I’m done.”
Qi Le was stunned, they were just getting into the swing of things.
“Cheng-ge, what’s wrong?”
An Cheng shook his head. “Hot.”
Qi Le wasn’t convinced. “What a lame excuse!”
Of course it was lame, because the real reason An Cheng stopped playing was Chen He.
When Chen He was on the court, he kept accidentally bumping into Bai Qing, and that was one thing. But even off the court, he kept staring at Bai Qing—especially when Bai Qing jumped to shoot and the edge of his shirt inevitably flew up to reveal his fair, lean waist. Chen He’s eyes were practically glowing green!
An Cheng grit his teeth. If this continued, he was going to turn homophobic.
