Transmigrated Into the Body of a Sickly Villain's Kitten - Chapter 13
Shi Yao’s words struck Fu Rou like a thunderbolt, leaving her utterly stunned.
Over the past few months since arriving here, she had rarely pondered these matters seriously or in detail.
Now, Shi Yao seemed to have laid out the question and the answer right before her, leaving only the process for Fu Rou to uncover herself.
Fu Rou began to grasp the intention behind Shi Yao’s words.
“It seems you’ve known everything all along.”
When Fu Rou wasn’t acting frivolously, she didn’t appear as naive or unworldly. Instead, she came across as sharp and perceptive.
Shi Yao raised her hand, intending to stroke the cat’s round, fluffy head, but Fu Rou dodged her touch.
Originally, Fu Rou had no desire to delve into these matters, but that strange dream had made it clear to her: many things were far more complicated than she had imagined.
Why was she called “Xiuxiu” in the dream? Why did Luo Xiu call her Rourou? And why did her dreams feel so vivid and real?
Shi Yao’s hand froze mid-air. She turned her gaze away, struggling to suppress the pain in her heart, and said hoarsely, “I do know some things, but you once told me that you didn’t care about the schemes or tricks in my mind. You only wanted to stay by my side and live happily. You wanted a stable home, toys like other cats have, and to eat meat every day. Look, I’ve already made all of that happen.”
Fu Rou had long grown tired of Shi Yao’s overly sentimental expressions and mournful tone. The soft, endearing aura of the cat had completely vanished, replaced by an aggressive and fierce demeanor.
The cat’s fur bristled all over, clearly enraged.
“You’re so strange. You’re really good at self-pity. I don’t know anything, and I have no idea what deeper connection exists between you and Youyou. Yet you’re forcing me to accept your feelings without even explaining the reasons or the background. You keep speaking in riddles every day, do you think this is fun?”
Initially, Fu Rou had held a favorable impression of this paper-thin antagonist. But once the character’s persona started to crumble, something just felt off.
Once the filter of admiration and worship faded, she gradually became more clear-headed.
Shi Yao’s eyes flickered. Seeing the little white cat so enraged, she stepped forward to soothe her, but the cat retreated again.
With a sigh, Shi Yao looked up at the ceiling before slowly beginning to reveal all her hidden scars.
“I’m sorry. I thought you had forgotten everything and truly didn’t want to know.”
“How can I know whether I want to know or not when I don’t know anything?”
Fu Rou’s words sounded almost like a tongue twister, but Shi Yao understood.
Slowly, Shi Yao wiped the sorrow from her face, her expression growing calm. “Then promise me first, after I tell you everything, you won’t blame me.”
“I have no reason to blame you. Didn’t I say it? I’m not Youyou.”
“You are.”
Fu Rou took a deep breath, resisting the urge to curse like a cat, and nodded vigorously. “Fine, if you say so. Are you going to tell me that Youyou’s defection to the protagonist’s side back then actually had another reason?”
Shi Yao’s brow furrowed. “You remember?”
“I don’t!” Fu Rou rolled her eyes at the air.
If it weren’t for the subconscious tension enveloping her, Fu Rou truly wouldn’t want to figure these things out.
She turned and ran to the scratching post to sharpen her claws, muttering as she did so, “These are all things I dreamed, but they’re just fragments. I don’t know any of the specifics.”
Shi Yao lowered her gaze, her wrist resting on her leg in a perfect curve. Suddenly, she let out a soft laugh.
Dreamed? So even in the dream, you called out for Xiuxiu?
Fu Rou was clearly not telling the truth. Shi Yao understood this well, the resentment Fu Rou held toward her still ran deep.
The cat paused her claw-sharpening and turned to see Shi Yao’s pitch-black eyes fixed unblinkingly on her. “Since you’ve dreamed of these things, I won’t say more. Back then, you were bewitched by Shen Xiaobai, convinced that staying by my side was aiding a tyrant. After Luo Xiu helped her drug you, they took you away and brainwashed you. Later, I searched for you for a long time, only catching a glimpse of your back by the Naihe Bridge. I called your name, but you didn’t even turn to look at me.”
At the memory of those heartbreaking and devastating events, Shi Yao’s expression turned icy.
“You hated me, believed I had deceived you. You listened to their one-sided words, calling me an ancient monster beyond redemption, while you, by helping them just a little, accumulated a hundred good deeds and took human form. Overwhelmed with guilt, feeling you had done wrong, you decided to drink a bowl of Mengpo’s soup and reincarnate to atone for your sins.”
The original novel did have this plot, but all Fu Rou knew was that the protagonists had coaxed the cat away from Shi Yao with sweet words, after which the cat disappeared without a trace, with no further details in the subsequent storyline.
So that’s how it unfolded?
Fu Rou suddenly felt a headache coming on.
Meanwhile, Shi Yao continued, “At the time, those wretched immortals negotiated with me, promising to return you to me unharmed if I willingly guarded the spiritual mountain at Wuqi. But later, the pearl on my ankle trembled, leading me to the underworld, where I saw you in human form but never your face.”
Fu Rou’s gaze fell on the gleaming golden pearl hanging from Shi Yao’s ankle.
The original book only mentioned it as a token of fate between Shi Yao and the cat.
Mermaids adore pearls, their tears can turn into them, and during their mating season, they must be surrounded by pearls to feel secure.
Back then, the cat had somehow obtained a beautiful, perfectly round golden pearl, saying she wanted to gift it to Shi Yao. She strung it with a golden thread and fastened it around Shi Yao’s ankle.
From then on, Shi Yao seemed to stop wearing shoes and socks, appearing barefoot everywhere like a “Barefoot Immortal,” as if to show off the pearl on her ankle.
It had to be said, Shi Yao’s bare feet were exquisite. She had always carried an air of aloof elegance, often dressed in cool-toned shades of blue and green. The golden pearl on her ankle only heightened her aura, making her seem even more proud, noble, and unapproachable.
Shi Yao slightly extended her fair, slender leg, the pearl gleaming softly against her delicate skin. “This is your heart. You refined it into the most beautiful pearl in the world and gave it to me.”
…
Qi Wushuang had been in Jiang City for over half a month.
She worked at a teahouse here, occasionally reading palms and telling fortunes for patrons, and had gradually built a reputation for herself. The owner initially thought she was a charlatan, but after realizing Qi Wushuang genuinely had some skill, his attitude toward her grew increasingly respectful. Now, Qi Wushuang had become something of a signature attraction at the teahouse.
Qi Wushuang remained calm and composed, carrying herself with ease no matter where she was. The main reason she had chosen this teahouse was its proximity to where Shen Xiaobai lived, making it convenient for her to observe.
After making inquiries, Qi Wushuang learned that Shen Xiaobai, in this reincarnation, had originally lived in an orphanage before being adopted by a couple who were both pianists. The couple had lost their biological daughter while on a global tour, and despite their desperate search, they never found her. Heartbroken, they eventually adopted a child of similar age from the orphanage to console themselves.
Shen Xiaobai grew up healthily and carefree in this environment. Though she lacked the talent to become a pianist, she developed a passion for writing novels. She had published several books and was regarded as one of the most gifted emerging writers of her generation.
Seeing that Shen Xiaobai was living such a fulfilling life, Qi Wushuang had no intention of disturbing her. It was best for each to live peacefully, never to meet again, truly the ideal outcome.
Their initial encounter had been a mistake from the start.
At the time, Qi Wushuang was the head disciple of the alchemy chamber at Qingxu Temple. While refining elixirs, she found herself in need of pearwood, and it was said that the finest pearwood could be found in the south. So, she packed her bags and set off to find the best pearwood in the world, never expecting to cross paths with Shen Xiaobai.
Shen Xiaobai was a pear blossom demon who had cultivated for a thousand years, eventually attaining human form and ascending to immortality. At first, the two disliked each other, but a series of events gradually intertwined their fates.
Those memories were haunting, both painful and sweet.
As dusk fell, Qi Wushuang stayed overnight at the teahouse. Having attained immortality, she no longer needed sleep to recuperate. She had just laid out a soft mat in a room at the back of the teahouse, preparing to meditate, when she sensed a familiar presence.
The visitor landed at the teahouse entrance and politely knocked on the door.
Having left Qingxu Temple without any intention of hiding her whereabouts, Qi Wushuang remained composed upon seeing that someone from Chiyu Immortal Manor had come to find her.
She rose to open the door for Hua Yufeng, her expression calm. “What brings Sect Leader Hua here today?”
Hua Yufeng, the leader of Chiyu Immortal Manor, was enchantingly beautiful and had been a friend of Shen Xiaobai and Shi Yao seven hundred years ago. Many had assumed that someone like Hua Yufeng, caught between the righteous and the wicked, would meet a grim fate. Yet, against all expectations, Chiyu Immortal Manor had become the leading sect among contemporary cultivation schools.
“Wushuang, since when have you and I become so distant?”
Qi Wushuang smiled faintly, her gaze clear and penetrating, as if seeing right through Hua Yufeng. “We were never friends to begin with. There’s no need for such familiarity.”
After entering the teahouse, Hua Yufeng glanced around. Though simple, the place had a unique charm, exactly the kind of environment that suited Qi Wushuang’s temperament.
Qi Wushuang guided her to a tea table, intending to brew her a cup of tea, but Hua Yufeng did not sit down. Instead, she knelt directly behind Qi Wushuang, her brows furrowed as if the matter were extremely urgent. “Divine Lord Wushuang, the cat by Shi Yao’s side has returned. The demon realm and the cultivation world are bound to face a great upheaval in the future. I implore you to set aside past grievances and help us once more!”
…
Fu Rou realized she could no longer speak.
The feeling of being unable to speak was something like this, she knew exactly what she wanted to say in her heart, but as soon as she opened her mouth, only meows came out. All she could hear were the sounds of a cat.
Earlier, after Shi Yao mentioned that the pearl on her leg was Youyou’s heart, Fu Rou’s head was suddenly seized by a tearing, excruciating pain. She stopped sharpening her claws and collapsed weakly onto the scratching post, transformed into a delicate little kitten.
Shi Yao came over and picked her up, using her spiritual energy to help regulate Fu Rou’s breathing. Gradually, Fu Rou calmed down, lying limp and dazed in a state of exhaustion.
Fu Rou still felt she wasn’t Youyou, but if Shi Yao insisted, there was nothing she could do about it.
After all, she couldn’t leave or escape now, Shi Yao could do whatever she wanted.
Shi Yao thought Fu Rou was feigning ignorance. Seeing that Fu Rou had improved slightly, she let out a long sigh of relief and gently rubbed Fu Rou’s belly. “How much did you eat? Your stomach is as round as a ball.”
“Meow~” I was really hungry, so I ate a bit too much.
“Can you speak properly with me?”
“Meow~” I did speak.
Shi Yao frowned, sensing something was off.
Fu Rou let out a series of meows and then suddenly fell silent.
She could only meow, she could no longer speak human words.
Even when Shi Yao brought over the tablet, her paw pads couldn’t type on it at all. Instead, she felt an overwhelming urge to scratch the screen with her claws.
Shi Yao looked at Fu Rou’s hook-like claws and the already scratched tablet screen, helplessly rubbing her forehead.
“I was wrong. I shouldn’t have said those things to you. Can you act normal? I’m scared now.”
“Meow~” I’m scared too!
“…”
Shi Yao took a deep breath, her eyes darkening slightly. She stood up, scooped Fu Rou into her arms, and headed straight for the door.
“Meow!” What are you doing?!
“Meow!” Where are you taking me??!!
“Meow!” You’re not going to kill me, are you?! Ahhhh!!!
Fu Rou stiffened, not daring to move a muscle, as Shi Yao carried her and, in the blink of an eye, flew to the Crescent Moon Pond.
The Crescent Moon Pond at night had a more enchanting atmosphere than during the day. Fireflies danced around, their scattered glows creating a beautiful, starry spectacle.
Before long, Fu Rou saw Brother Ping Tou floating over, encased in one of Shi Yao’s bubbles.
Brother Ping Tou stiffened upon seeing Shi Yao. After Fu Rou meowed, his expression grew serious. “How did you…”
“I can find a way to help you become human again, and I can turn a blind eye to investigating you. Tell me, can you understand what she’s saying?”
Shi Yao’s calm voice rang out. Brother Ping Tou trembled all over, then gradually looked incredulous. He meowed a few times at Fu Rou, and Fu Rou meowed back.
The meows echoed continuously around the Crescent Moon Pond. Shi Yao closed her eyes and let out a long sigh, resigning herself to waiting patiently.
After that series of meows ended, Brother Ping Tou spoke to Shi Yao, “I don’t understand.”
“Are you really unable to understand, or did she tell you to say you don’t understand?”
Brother Ping Tou replied, “I genuinely don’t understand. She must have cast a restriction spell on herself. Did you do something earlier that might have provoked her?”
Shi Yao: “…”
It seemed she really had.
Perhaps she had been too hasty. She knew full well that many things should be handled gradually, but in a moment of jealousy, her words had provoked the little kitten, leading to this outcome.
Fu Rou: “Meow?”
What restriction spell had she cast? How come she didn’t know about it herself???
