- Chapter 6 - A Clingy Good Cat
When Tan Changxin lifted the carriage curtain and stepped out, Lin Yanyu touched the top of her head, feeling her cat ears tingle she was very surprised.
It was only lightly scratched by a human’s fingernail. Was the original owner’s skin this sensitive?
While muttering to herself, she also leaped out of the carriage, staying close behind Tan Changxin to protect her at all times.
Tan Changxin had been holding the talisman for a while. Witnessing the demon slayer repel Ye Yaozhi with a flick of her bamboo flute, she immediately threw the talisman, snapped her fingers, and softly uttered “Attach.” The spiritual energy formed wind instantly blew the talisman onto the demon slayer’s wrist, the one holding the bamboo flute, instantly immobilizing her.
The white-clothed demon-slayer couldn’t move. She cursed under her breath. Her free left hand suddenly materialized black, slender claws. With a forceful exertion, she broke free from the immobilization talisman’s restraint, and using the momentum, she swiped a claw toward Tan Changxin.
In a flash, Lin Yanyu darted forward, shielding Tan Changxin. She raised her hand, seized the white-clothed demon-slayer’s wrist, twisted, and pushed, simultaneously tearing off her veil, revealing her true face.
The demon-slayer cried out in pain, retreated while clutching her wrist, and looked up at them. Her left eye had turned into a shimmering green beast’s pupil, and her body was slightly hunched, looking like a startled cat ready to attack.
“Feng Xianchen!”
Just as Lin Yanyu stood still, clutching the veil, Tan Changxin’s gasp of surprise came from behind, “How did you get here?!”
Hearing the familiar voice, Feng Xianchen froze. Rubbing her eyes to clearly see the person in front of her, she quickly retracted her demon form, straightened her back, and formally stated, “Sister Changxin! I came to find you!”
Seeing Ye Yaozhi still awkwardly sprawled on the ground, Lin Yanyu shoved the veil into Tan Changxin’s hand and hurried over, giving the two a moment to talk.
The battle was brief. Ye Yaozhi wasn’t seriously injured, but she had been constantly suppressed by Feng Xianchen. Seeing Lin Yanyu approach, she quickly stood up on her own, eyes downcast, and guiltily said, “Young Master, Yaozhi was no match for that human…”
“It’s alright. She’s a demon slayer, and her spiritual and demonic energies are indeed stronger than yours. You tried very hard.” Lin Yanyu instinctively patted her shoulder for comfort. After patting, she realized she might have broken character. She immediately cleared her throat, withdrew her hand, and scolded sternly, “Hurry back to the carriage!”
Given the original owner’s personality, calling her a “good for nothing” wouldn’t be excessive, but Lin Yanyu was a qualified demon-slayer from a civilized society. She couldn’t bring herself to insult a subordinate who had given their all.
“Understood.” Ye Yaozhi, however, obediently bowed and withdrew, hurrying toward the carriage without showing any sign of displeasure.
Lin Yanyu pondered for a moment, then walked toward Tan Changxin and Feng Xianchen.
Considering their relationship, Feng Xianchen was the original owner’s biological younger sister, and the Feng family was a prominent demon-slayer clan. She would eventually have to interact with her, so she might as well get acquainted now.
Coincidentally, as she approached, Tan Changxin had just asked, “How did you enter the Demon Realm?”
Before Feng Xianchen could answer, Lin Yanyu abruptly interjected, “I know how she got in! Hey, quickly hand over that half of the ‘Blood-Infused White Jade’ in your hand!”
She was also solidifying the original owner’s straightforward personality.
“How do you know about the ‘Blood Infused White Jade’?!” Feng Xianchen was greatly alarmed. Seeing Lin Yanyu close in, she subconsciously retreated two steps, raising her bamboo flute defensively, “Who are you?”
Tan Changxin quickly stepped between them and introduced to Feng Xianchen, “This is a friend from the Black Cat Clan I met in the Demon Realm, named Lin Yanyu. She is currently escorting me back to the Human Realm…”
“She can’t be just a simple Black Cat Demon!” Feng Xianchen interrupted her, pointing the bamboo flute at Lin Yanyu. She gritted her teeth and tentatively asked, “Since you can send Sister Changxin out of the Demon Realm and know about the ‘Blood-Infused White Jade’, your identity must be unusual, right? I feel a sense of familiarity with you. You… could you be a descendant of the Demon Realm Lord, Xuanqing?”
“How dare you call my Mother’s name directly! I think you’ve grown tired of living!” Lin Yanyu directly revealed her identity to her own sister, “Quickly hand over the White Jade! Otherwise, don’t blame me for being impolite!”
Seeing that the two were about to fight, Tan Changxin quickly chanted a spell, hugging Lin Yanyu, who had suddenly transformed back into a black cat, and said to Feng Xianchen, “This place is still the Demon Clan’s territory; it’s not suitable for discussion. Let’s return to the Human Realm first.”
Lin Yanyu silently praised Tan Changxin for her quick reaction. On the surface, she feigned anger by biting Tan Changxin’s hand, using her remaining minimal demonic energy to make her fur stand up in a startled manner. She also slapped her tail against Tan Changxin’s hand, winding it around her wrist.
“Don’t wrap it.” Tan Changxin softly forbade, reaching out to uncurl the cat’s tail. However, the tail curved away, its tip scratching her palm twice. The tickle made her body tremble. She frowned and said, “No acting spoiled!”
“Meow !” Lin Yanyu let out a drawn-out cry to express her inner dissatisfaction. Then, she swiftly darted onto Tan Changxin’s shoulder, only to be quickly picked up by the scruff of her neck and held back in her arms.
Tan Changxin gently rubbed the cat’s head and quickly walked toward the carriage.
Lin Yanyu “meowed” and muttered for a while, but ultimately, she rested obediently in Tan Changxin’s embrace.
“Sister Changxin, what exactly is going on?” Feng Xianchen was stunned. She followed Tan Changxin toward the carriage, asking in astonishment, “Why can you command the Young Master of the Demon Realm?”
“It’s not her commanding me!” Lin Yanyu immediately poked her head out to retort, “It’s me who willingly became the little beauty’s Demon Guard, escorting her back to the Human Realm!”
“You even call Sister Changxin a ‘little beauty’?!” Feng Xianchen was speechless. She looked at Tan Changxin. Seeing that she wasn’t angry, she was surprised and asked worriedly, “Sister Changxin, you… you haven’t been bullied, have you?”
Tan Changxin could only helplessly say, “I can’t explain it all right now, but I can confirm that she is not a malicious demon and has never mistreated me.”
After speaking, she couldn’t help but lower her head and rub the cat’s fur.
The startled fur felt a bit prickly, but as soon as she stroked it, it smoothed down obediently, as if the short-tempered Young Master of the Demon Realm was waiting for her to soothe it.
Lin Yanyu squinted in enjoyment, swaying slightly with Tan Changxin’s movements. Her now-relaxed tail lay on the hem of Tan Changxin’s clothes, occasionally sweeping left and right. When Tan Changxin extended her hand to her, she actively leaned in to rub and nibble it, her large, glittering green eyes looking innocently at Tan Changxin.
She didn’t look like the one doing the bullying at all.
The two got into the carriage. Feng Xianchen observed for a moment and commented, “Sister Changxin, she’s quite clingy to you. But you’ve always been so kind to cats. If I were a cat, I’d cling to you too.”
Tan Changxin gave a faint smile, lowered her head, and introduced to Lin Yanyu, “This is Feng Xianchen, my fellow disciple and friend.”
Lin Yanyu leisurely stretched out her front paws, placed them on Tan Changxin’s arm, and began to hiss at Feng Xianchen.
