- Chapter 47 - Identity Exposed
Lin Yanyu knew very well that she was the type to suffer setbacks easily but she never thought the day would come so soon.
When Qin Changxin kissed her, the little cat was completely stunned. Before she could react, their lips were already pressed together.
The killing intent that had been surrounding her no longer affected her, and the disappointment she had felt was replaced and soothed by this unexpected intimacy. Her mind buzzed, but her body moved instinctively, opening up to the young girl before her.
With that permission, something soft and gentle slipped in, cautiously brushing against her teeth tentative, shy, and careful.
Neither of them had any experience, so the kiss didn’t last long before Qin Changxin pulled away, covering her flushed face. Her heart was pounding wildly.
Those romantic picture books had truly misled her. The little cat was too obedient so obedient it made her feel embarrassed to continue.
Lin Yanyu let out a muffled sound, breathing hard, her nose still full of Qin Changxin’s scent.
“I didn’t mean to…” Lin Yanyu began to protest, but halfway through, she swallowed her words and scratched the back of Qin Changxin’s hand, her face flaming red.
Words were useless her body had already betrayed her. Even if it was only their lips, she hadn’t rejected the girl’s closeness. She had welcomed her in.
The “demonic resonance” and her disappointment had both vanished.
Lin Yanyu thought she had perfectly demonstrated what it meant to be a mouth that says no but a body that says yes.
The two girls stared at each other, faces red, until Qin Changxin spoke first. “Let me see how your wound is healing.”
Lin Yanyu obediently lay back down, eyes half-closed as Qin Changxin placed her hand on her abdomen.
Her head was still buzzing she couldn’t recall the details of what had just happened but the feeling on her lips lingered vividly.
After a while, as Qin Changxin withdrew her hand, Lin Yanyu suddenly asked, “How did it feel… for you?”
A kiss and being kissed must feel very different.
Qin Changxin, of course, had thought of this too. After a short hesitation, she asked cautiously, “Do you want to try?”
“T-try what?” Lin Yanyu’s eyes widened like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.
“To try what I just did to you,” Qin Changxin explained, shyly sitting by the bed’s edge, lowering her gaze. “Would you like to?”
Lin Yanyu almost blurted out, What kind of indecent words are you saying?! But seeing the girl’s hopeful eyes, she checked the surroundings with her spiritual sense, ensuring no one would barge in, before propping herself up.
Qin Changxin quickly helped her sit upright, chuckling. “You don’t need to sit up just to try.”
Her wound still ached, which was a bit discouraging. Lin Yanyu held her bandaged stomach and smiled. “If I’m going to try, I should do it properly. Lying down isn’t serious enough.”
Despite her confident tone, she had no idea what she was doing. Awkwardly recalling what she had seen in the old romance illustrations, she wrapped her arms around Qin Changxin’s neck.
Qin Changxin instinctively encircled her, pulling her gently into her arms.
Lin Yanyu adjusted her posture and realized that even seated, the girl was still taller. To take the lead, she had to tilt her chin up.
Noticing this, Qin Changxin leaned down, so all Lin Yanyu needed to do was lift her head slightly.
Their eyes met. Lin Yanyu took a deep breath, told herself not to chicken out, confirmed again with her spirit sense that no one was around, and decisively lifted her face.
She didn’t dare go deep only brushed and nudged the girl’s lips lightly, trying to find that same feeling.
Qin Changxin, however, grew impatient. She feared someone might interrupt, so after waiting a few moments, she gently drew Lin Yanyu in.
Startled, Lin Yanyu slipped into the kiss, completely guided by the younger girl.
She suddenly felt like a fake “future person” how could the supposedly pure young girl be more experienced than her?
Was it from practicing the actions in those romantic picture books?
Maybe she should try that next time. She couldn’t let the girl always take the lead.
Afraid she might become addicted to the feeling of kissing, Lin Yanyu pulled away quickly.
For one, the girl wasn’t yet of age; for another, they were being watched by Zhuang Jingwei. To avoid trouble or lectures, it was best to keep things under control for now.
Both girls, thinking themselves quite restrained, exchanged a knowing smile. Qin Changxin gently wiped Lin Yanyu’s lips with a handkerchief and helped her lie down again.
Once Lin Yanyu had fallen asleep, Qin Changxin left the herbal hall only to find Ye Yaozhi waiting by the vine bridge.
“How’s the situation?” Qin Changxin asked.
When she, Feng Xianchen, and Zhuang Jingwei had split up, Ye Yaozhi had followed her to assist.
“After the island lord fainted, that pair of demon-hunter lovers took her to the quiet chamber,” Ye Yaozhi reported. “Master Zhuang convinced the attending demons not to interfere with us.”
“Did any demons escape?”
“None. After the young lord’s demonic fire burned the bedchamber, the guards sealed all paths. Only authorized hunters may enter or exit.”
Qin Changxin sighed in relief. “Take me to them.”
Following Ye Yaozhi, she saw many feathered demons gathered within a massive purification array.
“This array cleanses corruption and heals demons within it,” Ye Yaozhi explained. “Quite useful.”
Qin Changxin studied the runes, nodded, and stepped onto the vine bridge.
Ye Yaozhi, remembering her fear of heights, offered, “Shall I steady you?”
“No need,” Qin said coolly.
Without Lin Yanyu beside her, her usual chill returned.
When they reached the quiet chamber, the island lord, Pu Wei, had just awakened, sitting up sluggishly as the room full of demon-hunters watched.
Qin Changxin noticed the restraints on Pu Wei’s limbs and neck, sealing her demonic energy. The small room was filled with members of Xuanjing Academy and the two major hunter factions.
Feng Xianchen, leaning against Zhuang Jingwei, turned at once when she saw Qin. “Where’s my Sister Lin? How’s her wound?”
“She’s fine resting in the herbal hall,” Qin replied softly. “It’s guarded by Doctor Yuzhu. Safer there. Her identity’s complicated it’s best she doesn’t come here.”
Feng nodded.
Qin gestured subtly for Ye Yaozhi to wait outside.
Inside, the hunters were questioning the island lord.
“She’s already undergone one ‘purification,’ but the elders still found multiple curse marks,” Feng whispered. “She’s been mutated for four or five years it just erupted now.”
“If it fully erupts…” Qin began.
“She’d lose her mind and slaughter everyone,” Zhuang Jingwei said grimly. “If we hadn’t arrived in time, this island would already be a bloodbath.”
They listened as the island lord, under hypnosis, confessed.
“Five years ago, he indeed came here,” Pu Wei said. “I drove him away, shielding the island with my poison mist but he cut through it with a strange sword. I underestimated him and was ensnared. He’s used me as his test subject ever since.”
“What sword could pierce your poison mist?” a young hunter mocked. “You just want to blame the missing Xiaoxian Yi!”
“If you doubt me, search the palace,” Pu Wei replied calmly. “His demonic aura remains, though hidden by illusion. Only the Demon Lord’s true fire can destroy it.”
At that, Qin Changxin’s heart skipped.
She remembered when she’d found Lin Yanyu, the cat’s demonic fire had burned the curtain to ashes.
“You there,” Pu Wei said suddenly, eyes on Qin. “You carry the Demon Lord’s scent strongly. She hasn’t stepped into the human world for centuries. When did you meet her? Was she here earlier?”
All eyes turned to Qin Changxin.
Zhuang and Feng immediately stepped forward to shield her.
The truth couldn’t be hidden from a demon’s keen senses.
“Changxin,” a Xuanjing elder said in shock, “you went to the demon realm recently? I thought you were home for the ancestral rites?”
She couldn’t explain the true reason without Lin Yanyu present, so she simply admitted, “Yes, I entered the demon realm by accident.”
“How?” the others murmured. “Only Feng Funing and the Demon Lord have the jade key!”
“See that half-demon in white?” someone whispered. “That’s Feng Funing’s daughter. She must’ve taken her along.”
“Tsk, typical demonic nature…”
“Show some respect!” Zhuang Jingwei snapped. “Feng Xianchen is the daughter of a hero who died to protect humanity! You dare insult her?”
Then she turned to Qin Changxin. “We’ll discuss this later. For now, focus on solving the island’s corruption. If we delay, Ningzhou will face another demon outbreak.”
Lin Yanyu awoke to the pounding of her heart.
She checked her pulse it was normal. Frowning, she sensed again. Perhaps it was just in her head?
Noticing Qin Changxin’s absence, she panicked and quickly shifted into her demon form, following the girl’s scent.
She found Ye Yaozhi outside the sealed quiet chamber.
“Something’s happening inside,” Ye whispered. “Everyone’s looking at Lady Changxin I don’t know why.”
Lin Yanyu’s ears twitched. Folding her wings, she slipped through the barrier and crept along the wall.
But the moment she appeared, Pu Wei sensed her aura.
“Xuanqing?!” the island lord gasped, eyes wide.
Then her expression changed. “No… not her but that scent…”
Lin Yanyu froze mid-step, debating retreat when a familiar shadow fell over her, and a pair of hands scooped her up.
“She isn’t Xuanqing,” Qin Changxin said clearly. “She’s Xuanqing’s daughter Xuanlin. And she is… my dao companion.”
Lin Yanyu stared up, dumbfounded.
Hadn’t the girl already come out once before?
Wait was she focusing on the wrong thing?!
