- Chapter 51.1 - Hot Spring Soak 1
Having figured this out, Ding Moyan stretched and got out of bed, intending to find the office of the attending physician, Dr. Wang Ye.
Wang Ye was currently in the Capsule Restoration Fluid, and while his condition was temporarily stable, she still wanted to check on him.
She also wanted to ask how she had ended up in the hospital ward. The President had been there earlier, and she hadn’t felt comfortable asking. In her memory, she had been watching over Wang Ye.
Ding Moyan scanned the nameplates on the doors until she found the office of a Dr. Ye Chi, she vaguely remembered that was the right person.
She knocked on the door. “Come in,” a steady voice responded from inside.
Ding Moyan turned the handle and entered.
Dr. Ye, who had been typing on his seat, looked up and smiled when he saw her. “Please have a seat, Miss Ding. What can I do for you?”
Ding Moyan sat across from him. “How did I end up in the hospital bed?”
“You fainted while on your way to Capsule Zone Three to see Wang Ye. After examination, we found that your brain had been affected by some kind of intense stimulus or extreme emotional distress,” Dr. Ye explained, setting aside his less urgent work.
Capsule zones typically only allowed one or two people in at a time, including staff. The nurse accompanying Ding Moyan had been walking behind her and hadn’t seen exactly why she suddenly collapsed.
Ding Moyan frowned. “I don’t remember feeling anything.”
Dr. Ye nodded. “Miss Ding, I can arrange a follow-up examination for you later.”
“Alright.” She then added, “After fainting, I had a very vivid dream, one about something unfamiliar, something I don’t recall happening in my childhood.”
Dr. Ye considered this. “Dreams are often caused by irregular sleep patterns, high stress, anxiety, and similar factors. Have you been experiencing any of these recently?”
“Probably.”
“Then that’s likely the cause.” Dr. Ye wrote down an address and handed it to her. “However, for a more detailed analysis of your dreams, I’d recommend consulting a psychologist. They specialize in these matters.”
“This is a psychologist I know. If you have time, Miss Ding, you can visit them for further advice.”
Ding Moyan took the note and thanked him.
“Dr. Ye, may I see Wang Ye again?”
Dr. Ye hesitated. Normally, only medical staff were allowed in the capsule zones.
But remembering her connection to the Ye family, he relented. “Very well, I’ll take you there now.”
“Thank you.”
Dr. Ye stood, and Ding Moyan followed him out of the office.
The guards stationed outside the capsule zone exchanged glances as Dr. Ye led Ding Moyan into Capsule Zone Three.
“Isn’t that the person who fainted in the capsule zone yesterday?”
“Aren’t non-medical personnel barred from entering?”
“She knows the Ye family’s young miss.”
“Having connections sure is convenient.”
“Too bad most people who enter the capsule zones are already doomed.”
One of them sighed. “Life’s tough.”
Inside Capsule Zone Three,
After passing several rows, Ding Moyan found the capsule where Wang Ye was housed.
Once he had guided her there, Dr. Ye discreetly stepped back a dozen paces, leaving Ding Moyan to whisper to Wang Ye in private.
Ding Moyan remained silent, standing motionless with a complex expression as she gazed at the girl floating inside the capsule.
The ten-minute visitation ended, and her legs had grown numb from standing for so long.
Her prolonged staring left her eyes slightly sore and itchy. As she left, she rubbed them vigorously, leaving them red and swollen, almost as if she’d been crying.
Ye Ye, who had been squatting outside the door, was taken aback at the sight.
“Ding Moyan, you look so ugly when you cry,” Ye Ye sneered, eyeing her disdainfully.
“I wasn’t crying.”
Ye Ye pulled a tissue from her pocket with a look of disgust. “I don’t believe you. Your eyes are red as a rabbit’s. Don’t lie.”
Ding Moyan was about to retort when a notification popped up on her phone, the distinct chime she had set for messages from the President.
After reading it, her mood darkened, and she had little patience left for Ye Ye.
“Hey, she’s almost gone. She won’t be able to make you happy anymore, you know?”
When Ding Moyan ignored her, too absorbed in her phone, Ye Ye snatched it away in irritation.
“Maybe you should consider someone else.”
Ding Moyan: “Don’t you have anything better to do?”
“This time, I’m serious,” Ye Ye said, her tone suddenly earnest.
Ding Moyan yanked her phone back. “Sorry, but I prefer being alone.”
Watching Ding Moyan walk away, Ye Ye lowered her head gloomily, muttering to herself, “Do you really like her that much?”
Ding Moyan reopened her phone to continue replying to the President’s message, only to freeze in shock.
[sb]
When had she sent that? She distinctly remembered typing “Check on Wang Ye while you’re at it,” but when she had pressed the ‘s’ and ‘b’ keys, Ye Ye had snatched her phone had she accidentally sent it during the struggle? What were the odds?
Ding Moyan: “…”
Fuck, can I take it back?
Her first thought was to recall the message. She held it down, the recall window was still open but before she could undo it, three voice messages popped up.
Ding Moyan fell silent again, her fingers trembling as she hesitated to tap them.
Finally, she pressed her lips together and opted for the text transcription instead.
‘The three voice messages read:
Come down.
Parking lot.
I’ll hear your explanation.’
What explanation? Go to the parking lot and wait for death?
Ye Ye, that big idiot. Trouble-maker. Ding Moyan stomped her foot in frustration, cursing under her breath.
Even so, she dragged her feet, delaying for over ten minutes before finally heading downstairs to the hospital parking lot.
The moment she entered, the President’s striking figure was impossible to miss.
Ding Moyan scurried over, immediately shifting blame: “That was Ye Ye’s doing.”
“Why was your phone with Ye Ye?” Zong Jia’s focus was on that detail.
Ding Moyan: “…”
“She stole it,” Ding Moyan accused, her expression seething with genuine anger.
Zong Jia studied her for a moment before turning to open the car door.
“Get in. We’re going home.”
Ding Moyan: “Huh?”
“Meeting the family. Make it convincing.” Zong Jia shut the door, adjusted the rearview mirror, and started the engine.
Once out of the parking lot, she hit the accelerator.
The Zōng family’s main residence was remote, nestled deep in the woods. Zong Jia drove the hover car for a full three hours before arriving.
When they entered, several key members of the Zōng family were already staring intently at them.
As Ding Moyan stepped inside, Shen Changle nearly choked on his sip of tea.
He coughed several times, and the man sitting to his left patted his back to help him catch his breath.
The little girl seated to Shen Changle’s right keenly noticed something interesting and immediately tugged at his sleeve, asking, “Brother Changle, do you know her?”
“Of course, I do.” Shen Changle didn’t bother to glance at the look Zong Jia shot his way. He was barely holding back his laughter.
So Zong Jia actually had this kind of taste. Shen Changle mentally slapped his thigh in amusement. Who would’ve thought?
Ding Moyan also spotted a familiar face among the crowd Shen Changle from the holographic game. She narrowed her eyes slightly. If she wasn’t mistaken, Shen Changle seemed to be admiring her.
“Her name is Ding Moyan, one of the future heirs of the Ding family, an A-rank Alpha.” Shen Changle straightened his collar and sat primly, clearly enjoying the spectacle.
Finally, he added, “She and A-Jia make quite the pair.”
Though the Ding family had declined in recent years, making them unworthy of attention from the older generation, the fact that Zong Jia had taken a liking to her and brought her to the main residence suggested she wasn’t as simple as she appeared.
Several impatient elders immediately sent people to investigate her background.
The Zong family’s influence was formidable. Within minutes, they had uncovered most of Ding Moyan’s life story.
Dated over a dozen Betas and Omegas?
Her position in the Ding family had long been usurped by her half-sister, rendering her title as heir practically meaningless?
Skipped this year’s A+ class placement exam?
The elders’ expressions soured. They each picked up their teacups and took a sip, trying to soothe their shocked hearts.
This hopeless case was going to become the Alpha of the Zong family’s heir? Had everyone gone mad?
Ding Moyan pressed her lips into a thin line and braced herself under their scrutinizing gazes.
“Sister Ding, why aren’t you smiling?” The little girl beside Shen Changle couldn’t contain her excitement and bounced over to Ding Moyan. Her round, black-grape-like eyes scanned Ding Moyan up and down, as if searching for something extraordinary.
The girl was a Beta. Ding Moyan used her system privileges to pull up her personal information.
[Name: Zong Ci
Age: 13
Gender: Female Beta
Personality: A sweet little girl.
Status: A collateral relative of the Zong family, same generation as Zong Jia. Due to personal circumstances, she is currently fostered in the Zong family’s main residence.]
Zou Ye’s disappearance had erased her character introduction, original appearances, and ending from the story.
Ding Moyan had only read most of the original plot, with a small portion left unfinished. She tried accessing the original text through the system panel but found it locked meaning she couldn’t read it anymore.
What did this mean? Was it because the female lead had died?
“Sister, what are you thinking about? You seem distracted.” The little girl spoke innocently, but her words only fanned the flames in the elders’ hearts.
Their dissatisfaction with Ding Moyan grew even stronger.
“Zong Ci.” Zong Jia’s gaze landed on the top of the girl’s head.
The icy stare forced the smile on the girl’s face to stiffen.
She fell silent, swallowing hard, not daring to cause any more trouble.
“Ding Moyan, congratulations. I heard from Ying Shu that she watched your practical competition and has been unable to forget you.” Shen Changle’s sharp, handsome features and narrow, beautiful eyes gazed at Ding Moyan with deep affection. If not for the conflicting signals, anyone would think he was smitten with her.
Shen Changle’s words naturally piqued the interest of those present. The recognition from General Geya Si’s daughter undoubtedly added an intriguing layer of mystery to Ding Moyan.
Ding Moyan forced a polite smile and replied, “Thank you.”
The Zōng Jiāzhǔ had his own calculations. He wasn’t so easily fooled. His gaze bypassed Ding Moyan entirely, landing on the President, intending to gauge Zong Jia’s reaction.
“Jia, I’ve tested the pheromone compatibility between the two of you. The results will be ready in three hours.”
Zong Jia nodded, showing little opposition to the pheromone test. She was confident. Though she was an S-class Alpha, very few could meet the passing threshold, but there were still some who could.
Even the annoying Shen Changle had a 59% compatibility rate. Personally, she had a decent level of fondness for Ding Moyan and felt that Ding Moyan’s compatibility would surely be slightly higher than Shen Changle’s enough to meet the passing standard.
Ding Moyan murmured, “Pheromone compatibility?”
She accessed the system permissions to look up the information.
[Pheromone compatibility is divided into four levels:
Perfect Match: 90%-100%, soulmates.
Moderate Match: 71%-89%, model couples.
Passing Match: 60%-70%, barely meets the standard for being together.
Utter Mismatch: 0-59%, divorce rate as high as 99.99%.
