- Chapter 5 - Rule Five for Raising a Daughter: Always Forget to Bring a Towel When Bathing
“Hello, my name is Ding Moyan.”
Ye Ye, acting overly familiar, tightly grasped Ding Moyan’s hand and praised, “Sister, you’re so pretty! Can we be friends?”
“Here’s my WeChat.”
Behind them, Yu Sisi covered her eyes, genuinely cringing at Ye Ye’s shamelessly sweet “sister” act.
For a moment, Yu Sisi really wanted to switch teammates.
“Sister!”
Ding Moyan looked at Ye Ye, pursing her lips, unsure of what to say.
“Sister, please~”
Ye Ye beamed, her coquettish tone sounding utterly natural, as if she genuinely wanted to befriend the original host. Of course, if not for the system’s earlier briefing, Ding Moyan might have believed her act.
Recalling the original host’s miserable fate, Ding Moyan sighed inwardly, it was best to stay far away from this troublemaker.
“No.” She lifted her eyelids slightly, her expression cold as she refused, resembling nothing less than a proud peacock.
The system was stunned, its interface flickering as it scrutinized her this was practically the original host reincarnated.
Ye Ye was momentarily speechless. Forcing a bright smile despite her crumbling expression, she took a step closer and looped her arm through Ding Moyan’s. “It’s fine. Asking for your WeChat right after meeting is indeed my fault. Sorry for bothering you, sister.”
Green Tea Tactic: Always apologize in advance, no matter what.
Her level had clearly risen. A chill ran down Ding Moyan’s spine. Ye Ye’s arm felt slippery and cold, clinging like a venomous snake coiled around her one wrong move, and she’d be bitten, poisoned to death.
Uncomfortable, Ding Moyan pulled her arm free and took a few steps back.
Ye Ye’s empty hand hung awkwardly in the air.
“I heard you know the President, sister. That’s so impressive,” Ye Ye said, retracting her hand and lightly brushing back her glossy black hair. She deliberately tilted her face at an angle, presenting a pitiful, delicate profile to Ding Moyan.
“If only I were as amazing as you, sister.”
“Ding Bai knows her too, and she’s even more impressive.” Ding Moyan suddenly felt like she was enduring burdens far beyond her years. She glanced away, her gaze landing on Ding Bai. “She attends weekly meetings and gets up close with the President every time. She’s way better than me maybe you should learn from her instead.”
“Uh!”
The remark left Ye Ye at a loss for words. Meanwhile, Ding Bai, who had been innocently dragged into this, looked at her sister in surprise.
Ding Moyan remained expressionless, meeting Ding Bai’s scrutiny with composure, though a faint, ambiguous smile flickered in her eyes.
“I have things to do, so I’ll take my leave now.”
The Rose Workshop dormitories followed a two-person-per-room system. Aside from the omega-exclusive dorm building, the rest were mixed, housing both alphas and betas.
As a prestigious institution, the Engineering Institute’s tuition was steep, and its facilities were naturally top-tier. The cafeteria and dorms were among its standout features delicious food, clean rooms, shared between two people, each equipped with a private shower, toilet, and sink.
Ding Moyan carried a basin into the shower room and began undressing.
“System, you can shut down now.”
[I’m not a pervert.]
“Then why is your panel spamming hearts and fireworks?” Ding Moyan rolled her eyes.
[Eek! Don’t worry, Host, I promise I won’t look.]
Ding Moyan blinked, her expression turning odd. “Shut down. I don’t want to argue.”
[Hmph, fine. Another boring day.]
Ding Moyan hummed a few times, watching as the panel closed, then took off her shirt and pants.
After a quick rinse of her head, she poured some shampoo into her hands, rubbed it into a lather, and massaged it into her hair.
The hot water warmed her, washing away her irritability. Standing on the tiled floor, Ding Moyan meditated, enjoying the soothing flow of the water.
Her heart felt much lighter.
Just as she was about to rinse her hair, Ding Moyan suddenly froze.
“I think I forgot to bring a towel.”
“What should I do?” At this moment, Ding Moyan still had foam in her hair and was completely naked. She fell into deep thought.
[You could ask someone to bring you one.]
Ding Moyan’s expression hardened. “You didn’t shut down.”
The system hurriedly replied, [I turned off the screen, I can’t see anything, only hear. Don’t worry, I’m a female system. Listen to my voice female, female!]
“Hmph, female or not, no.”
[Fine, I was wrong. Just hurry and ask someone to bring you a towel.]
Right now, the towel was indeed the priority. Ding Moyan called out, “Wang Ye.”
No response, no movement.
[Host, speak louder.]
Ding Moyan held her breath and shouted at the top of her lungs for her roommate, “Wang Ye!”
Her voice was loud enough to successfully summon Wang Ye, who had been doing homework.
Wang Ye set down her pen and walked dazedly to the bathroom door, seemingly confused as to why Ding Moyan would call her name while showering.
She knocked lightly on the wooden door and asked timidly, “D-Ding Moyan, what’s wrong?”
“Can you grab me a towel?”
Separated by the door, Ding Moyan’s voice was muffled and hoarse, yet undeniably captivating.
“Where, where is your towel?”
The sound of running water echoed from inside the shower. Imagining Ding Moyan’s beautiful face while listening to the water and her warm, husky tone, Wang Ye’s face flushed, her heartbeat quickening. Her knocking grew softer as she continued, “Where is it?”
Ding Moyan froze. This was her first day transmigrating into the book, how would she know where the towel was?
She quickly consulted the system about the original body’s towel location.
Unexpectedly, the system replied, [I’ve shut down. Can’t hear you.]
Ding Moyan let out a soft “tch,” suppressing the urge to punch the system.
“7788, if you don’t tell me, I’ll go stab the protagonist later. Even if plot armor keeps them alive, I can still join the villains and make their lives miserable.”
[Always threatening me.]
“Stop wasting time.”
[I actually don’t know where the original body’s towel is either. This has nothing to do with the plot. The system can’t possibly know every trivial detail about a minor character’s daily life.]
Ding Moyan let out a drawn-out “hmm” through her nose, barely restraining the urge to destroy the system.
“D-Ding Moyan,” Wang Ye tapped on the bathroom door again.
Ding Moyan remained silent, unsure how to respond.
“Ding Moyan,” the voice outside called once more.
Pursing her lips, Ding Moyan finally answered, “I just remembered, my towel is missing. I lost it.”
“Wait a second.” Wang Ye paused for a few seconds before rummaging for her own towel. “D-do you mind using mine?”
Afraid Ding Moyan might misunderstand, she added, “The campus convenience store is, is closed now.”
Though Ding Moyan had a slight cleanliness quirk, she didn’t have any major reservations about borrowing someone else’s towel after a shower.
Ding Moyan gave a soft “Mm,” thanking her.
The bathroom door cracked open slightly. Wang Ye, her cheeks flushed, shoved the towel inside but couldn’t help catching a glimpse of a slender, snow-white arm. Her ears turned crimson as heat radiated from her burning face.
“A teddy bear towel, how cute. Just like its owner.”
A faint, doting chuckle seemed to drift from inside the shower. Wang Ye’s sharp ears caught it, making her both flustered and restless. Why did just seeing a beauty make her heart race like this? But her voice really was so lovely.
Embarrassed, Wang Ye covered her face and quickly retreated to her room to cool down.
She sat at the desk, attempting to focus on her homework, but her restless mind kept wandering toward the sound of running water from the shower.
Then, the water stopped.
With a soft click, the door opened.
“I washed it and used the automatic dryer in the bathroom.” Ding Moyan handed the towel back to Wang Ye. “Thanks.”
“N-no problem.”
Holding the towel that had just touched Ding Moyan’s skin, Wang Ye felt her mind short-circuit. The thought of her towel gliding over that pristine, delicate body made her head spin. Her face burned crimson as she clutched the towel tightly, frozen in place.
“What’s wrong?” Ding Moyan waved a hand in front of Wang Ye’s dazed eyes.
Snapping back to reality, Wang Ye hastily stuffed the towel into the wardrobe. “N-nothing!”
She then flopped onto her bed, burying her nose in her palm, the same hand that had held the towel. A faint, sweet fragrance still lingered on her skin.
Unconsciously, the corners of Wang Ye’s lips curled upward.
Something had quietly shifted, slowly seeping in.
