- Chapter 47 - Sneaking into the House
After removing Ding Moyan’s makeup, Ye Ye stared intently at the natural beauty before her.
With light makeup, Moyan’s face had carried an air of cold arrogance and sharpness, but now, bare-faced, her features appeared softer and dewy so much so that Ye Ye couldn’t resist the urge to pinch them. And being the bold girl she was, she did just that.
After squeezing with her left hand, she couldn’t help but stroke Moyan’s cheek, as if petting a small animal, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Ye Ye couldn’t help but marvel Ding Moyan’s skin was impeccably maintained. She wondered what skincare products could make it so soft and irresistible to touch.
Her shameless ogling finally earned her a disgusted frown from Moyan, who promptly slapped away the mischievous hand.
“Ouch!” Ye Ye yelped, pitifully presenting her reddened hand to Moyan. “Look, you made it red! Apologize now.”
Moyan remained silent, simply thinking that she could always ditch Ye Ye and find Wang Ye on her own later.
Seeing no apology forthcoming, Ye Ye pouted as she applied ointment. “You can’t just look like this and not let people touch you.”
Moyan scoffed. “And you can’t just act like this and not expect to get hit, huh?”
“Tch.”
“Are you going to do my makeup or not?” A sudden wave of irritation washed over Moyan, making her words sharper than intended.
Ye Ye picked up the primer and foundation. “Yes, yes, yes.”
Half an hour later, Moyan held up a mirror and examined herself.
She had to admit Ye Ye had serious skills.
Her face now looked much more masculine. Paired with the short black wig and the Engineering Institute’s male uniform, she could almost pass for a boy.
“Look at me! How do I look?” Ye Ye, dressed in men’s athletic wear, flaunted her own transformation soft short hair and a fair, delicate face that made her look even more adorable.
“Not handsome,” Moyan shook her head, holding the mirror up to Ye Ye. “More like a cute little boy. Soft and squishy.”
“I can be tough too, you know,” Ye Ye retorted, leaning back in the hover car seat and chewing on boba pearls from her milk tea.
Moyan pointed out, “Just cross-dressing might not be enough. Our voices are still obviously feminine.”
“Easy just use a voice changer. Watch me.” Ye Ye took a sip of water, cleared her throat, and spoke again this time in a soft, boyish tone.
Moyan blinked in surprise before giving an impressed thumbs-up.
“That’s good. But I don’t know how to do that.”
Ye Ye thought for a moment. “Hmm… how about you play a mute? I’ll do all the talking.”
Moyan nodded. “Fine.”
Once everything was ready, Ye Ye’s family driver took them to their destination.
They sat in the back seat with a gap between them. Moyan leaned against the window, gazing at the passing buildings, her mind preoccupied with the consequences of barging into Wang Ye’s home unannounced.
She knew full well that Wang Ye’s obedient, earnest demeanor in front of her was just an act. Yet, despite that, her fondness for Wang Ye hadn’t waned in her heart, she had already claimed Wang Ye as her own.
But now, doubts crept in, adding to her frustration.
Halfway through the hover car ride, Ye Ye glanced sideways.
Moyan’s striking profile was like a breathtaking landscape to her, sending a jolt through her heart and reflexively making her turn away.
Ding Moyan noticed Ye Ye’s gaze lingering on her face, unsure what the other was thinking, and couldn’t help asking, “What are you looking at?”
“You’re very beautiful,” Ye Ye praised without blinking, completely unabashed.
Ding Moyan’s beauty was of the elegant and noble kind. Upon closer contact, one would discover she exuded a warm, approachable aura.
Ye Ye withdrew her gaze, lowering her head as she scooted back, swinging her legs idly in the air. Fragments of that striking appearance flashed through her mind as she murmured softly, “Such a pretty Alpha.”
The location pinpointed by the system was quite remote. Ding Moyan and Ye Ye spent over an hour riding a hover car before arriving.
They only disembarked after the vehicle parked opposite the residential complex.
This neighborhood bore traces of history, its exterior visibly worn. The security booth was manned by just one elderly guard.
The old man stood ramrod straight, his voice robust when conversing with residents passing by time had done nothing to diminish his imposing presence.
“We’re just walking in?” Going through the front entrance openly, without scaling walls?
Ding Moyan had initially planned to circle around to the side and climb over, but Ye Ye grabbed her wrist, pulling her toward the main gate.
“Of course.”
“Aren’t you afraid we won’t be allowed in?”
“Places like this usually aren’t too strict with security.” Ye Ye arched her brow, tugging Ding Moyan right up to the entrance.
“Who are you two?” The elderly guard squinted his somewhat clouded eyes at these two unfamiliar, well-dressed youngsters. As an Alpha, he could discern the male secondary genders of the youths before him.
“Hello, Grandpa! We’re here to visit a classmate.”
“Her name is Wang Ye,” Ye Ye said in a soft voice, putting on an adorably well-behaved face. “Our instructor said she’s sick, so we came to check on her.”
Petite and cute, Ye Ye resembled an underdeveloped Omega boy.
Faced with such an adorable child, the old man’s expression softened. He casually remarked, “Ah, Wang Ye. No wonder she looked so pale when she came home yesterday, she was ill.”
“That’s right. Our whole class is worried. See, we even brought fresh flowers they say flowers cheer up patients.”
The old man stroked his white beard. “True enough, flowers do lift the spirits.”
After exchanging a few more words, Ye Ye’s sweet talk had the old man beaming like a flower.
“Hey! Why isn’t this one talking?” The guard suddenly focused on Ding Moyan.
Pretty as she was, her waist was slender and narrow, her height roughly 175 cm. For a male Alpha, such slight stature suggested malnutrition. Moreover, she hadn’t uttered a word, her eyes blankly fixed somewhere, appearing rather vacant.
“Um, Grandpa.” Ye Ye’s voice grew quieter, as if hesitant. “This classmate of mine, can’t speak.”
The old man lowered his voice too. “Mute?”
Ye Ye puffed her cheeks, nodding like a little hamster. “Yes.”
“How tragic. Such a handsome lad, yet unable to speak.” The guard’s gaze turned pitying as he looked at Ding Moyan.
Meeting the old man’s kindly eyes, Ding Moyan pressed her lips into a flat line.
“Grandpa, it’s getting late. We should go see our classmate Wang Ye now.”
“Right, right.” The old man pressed a button, raising the barrier to let them through. “She lives in the second villa of the third row in Zone C. Give her my regards while you’re at it.”
Ye Ye gave an OK sign with her hand: “Got it! Grandpa.”
Following the system’s coordinates, Ding Moyan and the other person smoothly arrived near the villa where Wang Ye lived.
“Wang Ye’s house? There are seven or eight people patrolling outside,” Ye Ye observed, analyzing the group of tall, burly male Alphas. The leader, a buzz-cut Alpha, didn’t seem low-level, probably at least A-rank.
Wang Ye must have quite the influence to have so many high-ranking Alphas guarding her.
“Let’s go through the window. There’s a small one on the slanted side of the second floor,” Ye Ye pointed to the open window. “There’s even a ladder for tree trimming right next to it. We can use that to climb in.”
Ding Moyan agreed. She carried the ladder with light steps, not making a single sound.
The two climbed in using the ladder. After just a few steps, they faintly heard the President’s name near a room’s doorway. Ding Moyan and Ye Ye halted simultaneously, quickly squeezing into a neighboring room.
The adjacent room was empty and pitch-black.
Ding Moyan turned on her phone’s flashlight, revealing a storage room.
This villa was an older building, and the soundproofing wasn’t great. With the special listening device Yu Sisi had provided, they could eavesdrop clearly.
Regarding A-329 and the information targeting the President, Ye Ye was the first to activate her phone’s recording function, linking it to the listening device to capture their conversation.
Based on their voices, one of them was Zou Ye, while the other spoke with authority. Zou Ye addressed this person with deference, leading Ding Moyan to deduce it was the head of the Zou family, Father Zou.
“Zong Jia is already investigating this matter. We need to transport this batch of A-329 before she uncovers anything.”
Zou Ye nodded. “Understood.”
“Zou Ye, don’t lose the big for the small. The Ding family is currently in severe internal turmoil. If you recklessly attack, you’ll provoke them to unite against you, and they’ll devour you until not even your bones remain.”
Father Zou looked at this future head of the Zou family with an inscrutable expression, as if weighing whether this asset still held any value.
He knew full well how many people she had offended behind the scenes under this identity, including the current trouble that had pitted their family against the Zong clan.
Zou Ye was somewhat arrogant or, to put it bluntly, overconfident.
If the A-329 transport failed and the mission wasn’t completed, the entire family wouldn’t withstand a single blow from the Zong clan. If it came to that, he would seriously consider sacrificing this long-groomed heir, using her as a scapegoat.
Losing one heir would, at most, sting for a while.
Father Zou found this daughter utterly uninteresting. Compared to her twin sister though a Beta, she had nearly defeated the Zong heir in the B+4 large-scale survival competition. His impression of that Beta was far better.
Zou Ye’s face paled. She stood frozen, unable to refute her father’s warning.
She had to admit the Zou family was now at a critical juncture. A single misstep could trigger fatal consequences. Ever since she had recklessly drugged Ding Moyan during their meeting, Zong Jia had been subtly sabotaging the Zou family’s businesses behind the scenes.
But Zou Ye was proud. Raised under the Zou elders’ teachings, she couldn’t show weakness to others. She had to succeed even if it meant stepping over her own kin to get there.
“Did you hear me?” Father Zou’s voice was deep and resonant, displeased with Zou Ye’s lack of response, it was downright rude.
“I heard you, Father. Wang Ye needs to withdraw from the practical exam.”
Seeing Father Zou’s eyes darken with displeasure, Zou Ye paused before continuing, “Ding Moyan is from Zong Jia’s side. With Wang Ye joining her, Ding Moyan will definitely take first place in the practical exam. Moreover, General Geya Si will be visiting tomorrow to observe the duo match. We can’t let General Geya Si get involved and assist the Zong family.”
Father Zou’s thick brows furrowed. If Wang Ye withdrew, the Zou family wouldn’t have a single candidate in the A+ Class this time.
Of course, Wang Ye’s absence wasn’t entirely a bad thing. Her Mecha Operation skills had always leaned toward a support role. If she really ended up assisting that Ding family brat to first place and caught the attention of that old fox Geya Si, it would bring no benefit to the Zou family. Besides, Zou Ye and Ding Moyan were already on hostile terms.
Only after receiving Father Zou’s approval did Zou Ye leave, satisfied.
“Zou Ye’s gone.” Ye Ye, who had been crouching and eavesdropping, stood up, her legs numb. She stretched her limbs to shake off the tingling discomfort.
Ding Moyan mulled over their conversation, including the mention of the A-329 hazardous reagent something unrelated to the original plot. The lab had made a huge fuss over losing just one vial, yet from Father Zou’s words, the Zou family seemed to have plenty.
That could only mean one thing, they were producing it privately.
“What are you thinking about?”
“Nothing,” Ding Moyan replied. “Let’s find Wang Ye.”
Seeing that Ding Moyan had no intention of elaborating, Ye Ye exhaled and muttered a disinterested, “Oh.”
The click-clack of high heels grew closer.
Wang Ye’s ears twitched, and she quickly pulled her half-leaned-out body back inside, shutting the window before sitting back down on the bed.
The doorknob turned, and Zou Ye stepped into the room.
“Wang Ye.” After closing the door, Zou Ye glanced around.
Wang Ye’s room was on the third floor of the villa, simply decorated in white with only a few essential pieces of furniture. The space was neither too big nor too small just enough for two people to move around without feeling cramped.
“What do you want?” Wang Ye asked.
“Just checking on you.” Zou Ye pulled up a chair and sat across from her.
“Get to the point.” Wang Ye had no patience for beating around the bush. She’d checked the time when she closed the window it was almost three. The registration deadline was at six in the evening, and she didn’t have time to waste.
Zou Ye spoke calmly, though her eyes held mockery and scorn. “Father wants you to withdraw. You won’t be able to help Ding Moyan.”
As she said this, Zou Ye watched Wang Ye closely, hoping to see her crumble distraught, heartbroken, helpless. Instead, Wang Ye remained silent, as if accepting the news without protest.
“Cat got your tongue?”
Wang Ye scoffed coldly, kicked off her slippers, and lay back on the bed.
She closed her eyes, pressing a hand to her dry hair before pulling the covers over herself, issuing a clear dismissal. “I’m tired and need to sleep. Please leave.”
“Sleep? You can sleep right now?”
Zou Ye crossed her arms, eyeing Wang Ye’s unnervingly calm reaction with deep suspicion.
When Wang Ye didn’t respond, Zou Ye stood, leaning in to whisper by her ear, “Would you jump out the window?”
