- Chapter 37 - Please Don’t Pull My Towel
Ding Moyan’s exam room was next to Ye Ye’s. As soon as Ye Ye finished her exam, she rushed over to the neighboring room.
Unfortunately, most of the examinees had already left. Unable to spot Ding Moyan, Ye Ye reached out to stop a passing classmate and asked, “Where’s Ding Moyan?”
“Ding Moyan? Oh, her,” the classmate glanced at Ye Ye and replied, “She went back to the dorm with Wang Ye after the exam.”
“Back to the dorm…” Ye Ye released her grip and paced to the stairwell. She pulled out her phone and sent Ding Moyan a message.
The moment the words “Are you there?” appeared, a red exclamation mark flashed in front of them.
Beneath it, a small line of text read: You are not friends with this user. Messages cannot be sent.
“You fucking deleted me?” Ye Ye’s mouth fell open in shock, and she cursed under her breath.
Refusing to give up, Ye Ye spammed the friend request button several times, but there was no response.
Her brows furrowed, her cheeks puffed in frustration, and she clenched her phone tightly.
Was Ding Moyan avoiding her? Ye Ye bit her lip and ran back to her own dorm. She rummaged through her cabinet and pulled out the Prank Paint Gun, loading it with a Paintball. Determined to teach Ding Moyan a lesson, she set off alone for the Alpha and Beta shared dormitory.
Ye Ye had an excellent memory. She managed to sweet-talk the dorm supervisor into giving her an All-Access keycard, a master key that could open any door in the building.
Without hesitation, Ye Ye sneaked up to Ding Moyan’s dorm room, swiped the card, and slipped inside.
The room was empty.
Disappointed, Ye Ye kicked a nearby trash can and set down the Paint Gun. Her usual cheerful expression darkened.
Where the hell was that idiot who dared to delete her?
Ye Ye strode in, hands stuffed in her pockets, scanning the room. The last time she was here for hotpot, she hadn’t paid much attention to the details.
The bedroom was small, with old bunk beds and desks, some parts chipped and worn. The sunlight filtering in was dim, nowhere near as bright and airy as the Omega dorms.
Ye Ye swaggered over to the glass door at the far end and pulled it open, revealing a washbasin area.
To the right was another door likely the shower.
Ye Ye’s hand landed on the handle, about to yank it open for a look, when suddenly, the door swung open from the inside.
!!!
“Ye… Ye?”
Both girls froze, one tall, one short. The freshly showered beauty was enveloped in a clear, fragrant scent. Ye Ye’s breathing grew unsteady, her pink cheeks flushing visibly.
Ding Moyan swallowed hard, especially under Ye Ye’s intense gaze. A shiver ran down her spine.
Thankfully, she was wrapped in a towel. “Pervert,” Ding Moyan spat, immediately trying to shut the door.
She needed to put her old clothes back on first.
“Wait!” Ye Ye snapped out of her daze and grabbed the edge of the towel, tugging hard too hard. The large white towel slipped right off Ding Moyan’s body.
“!” Ding Moyan’s mind went blank, a herd of what-the-fucks stampeding through her head.
She reacted instantly, slamming the shower door shut with a loud bang.
Just as Ye Ye was about to see Ding Moyan step out of the bathroom.
Ye Ye had found where Ding Moyan lived.
“This, this is Moyan’s towel.” Wang Ye stared at Ye Ye in horror, her lips trembling as she witnessed the unbelievable scene. “You, you stop pulling at it, that’s Mo Yan’s towel.”
The snacks in Wang Ye’s hands fell to the ground in fright.
“It is Ding Moyan’s, but—”
Before Ye Ye could finish, Wang Ye couldn’t hold back anymore.
“Ye, Ye Ye, you, you’re being a pervert!” Wang Ye pointed accusingly at Ye Ye, who was tugging at Ding Moyan’s towel, forgetting even the snacks in her panic.
“Don’t talk nonsense.” Ye Ye let go of the towel as if it were burning her hands and raised her arms in surrender. “I wasn’t doing anything.”
“Holy shit!”
The two in the room turned their attention to the source of the exclamation.
A classmate who happened to pass by Ding Moyan’s dorm couldn’t cover his shrill voice even with his hand over his mouth. “Holy shit! An Omega!”
His voice was so loud that everyone in the nearby dorms could hear it.
An Alpha, who had just put on his shirt, jumped down from his bed and yanked the door open. “Wh-where? Where’s the Omega?”
“It’s Ye Ye, the one who inspected the dorms last time.”
“She’s here to inspect again?” someone asked in terror.
“Nah, she’s probably here to see Ding Moyan.”
“Ding Moyan?” Another classmate who had come over let out a meaningful “Ohhh.”
Someone tentatively suggested, “Have you guys noticed how Ding Moyan and Ye Ye actually look like a perfect couple?”
“Get lost! The school beauty and the President are the ultimate pairing,” a die-hard fan of the President retorted, rubbing away goosebumps.
Wang Ye stammered, “You, you threw Mo Yan’s towel on the floor.”
Ye Ye let out an “Ah!” and hurriedly picked it up, dusting it off. Her flustered movements didn’t make her look very bright.
The towel was warm, and the lingering scent on her fingertips sent her heart fluttering. Ye Ye silently pinched her own arm, she needed to snap out of it.
Ding Moyan emerged from the shower in her old clothes, only to find dozens of students gathered at their dorm door, munching on watermelon like spectators.
Her head throbbed instantly. Why wasn’t the door closed? Did they want to embarrass themselves in front of the entire building?
Ding Moyan pressed her fingers to her temples. “Wang Ye, close the door.”
Wang Ye, realizing she hadn’t shut the door properly when she came back with snacks, quickly rushed over and firmly closed it in the faces of the nosy crowd.
“What’s an Omega doing sneaking into an Alpha and Beta’s room?” Ding Moyan took back her towel and tossed it into the laundry basin.
“Why did you delete me?”
“Why should I keep your contact?” Ding Moyan calmly deflected the question.
Ye Ye planted her hands on her hips. “Don’t tell me you forgot about what happened at the police station? You promised to take care of me personally.”
“…” If Ye Ye hadn’t brought it up, Ding Moyan would have completely forgotten about the time she got food poisoning, her legs went numb, and she accidentally collapsed onto Ye Ye’s delicate frame.
“Oh my god, you really forgot.” Ye Ye could tell from Ding Moyan’s expression exactly what she was thinking. “You’re not trying to back out of your responsibility, are you?”
“No, I’ll take care of you until you’re better.” Ding Moyan maintained a calm facade, though inwardly she was screaming, Back off, back off, you lunatic stay away from me!
The events of the past few days had nearly made Wang Ye forget about what happened during their Valentine’s Day meal too. She quietly packed her things, but her ears were perked up, listening intently.
“Alright, add me back as a friend.”
After re-adding her as a friend, Ye Ye continued, “I’ll message you if I have any problems. Since you can’t usually enter the omega dorms, you’ll have to come home with me on weekends. That’s what real care looks like.”
“Okay, sure.” Ding Moyan glanced at the time and nodded without annoyance. “Anything else?”
Ye Ye sat on the high stool, swinging her legs as she thought seriously before shaking her head. “Nope.”
“Then let’s go.” Ding Moyan said, “This is an alpha and beta shared dorm. It’s not convenient for an omega like you to stay here.”
“Alright.” Having gotten the answer she wanted, Ye Ye was naturally satisfied.
As a female omega, it was indeed inappropriate for her to linger here. After exchanging a few more words with Ding Moyan, Ye Ye slipped out of the dorm.
Finally seeing her off, Ding Moyan felt much more relaxed. After drying her hair, she lay flat on the bed.
The exams were spread over six days, one subject per day, with tests in the morning and review in the afternoon.
“The decision-making operation test results are out.”
An alpha rushed into the room, panting heavily. Without even stopping to drink water, he delivered some bad news.
Someone immediately slammed the table, unable to stay seated. “So soon!”
“Of course. The Rose Workshop is notoriously fast with grades. They usually hand out the papers the same afternoon after the morning exam.”
“Ding Bai is already distributing them.” A beta by the window clasped their hands in prayer. “Please, let me do well this time and make it into the A+ class.”
Ding Moyan leaned back in the plastic chair, resting her head on her hands.
“Kinda reminds me of middle school, especially the high school entrance exams. All the students were so nervous.” As she spoke, her eyes unconsciously grew moist. She missed her middle school days those were the most memorable times for her. Not because of any particular person, but because middle school was the only period when she was lively and carefree.
After recovering from childhood illnesses, she spent her middle school years often skipping class to sneak onto the playground, basking in the sunlight and the scent of nature. She played soccer freely, living her own happy life.
But during the summer before her third year, Ding Moyan’s condition relapsed, and she was hospitalized again. Her illness came and went, leaving her dependent on hospital machines. Thus, her entire high school and college years were spent in the hospital.
Thinking about it now, it was pitiful and almost laughable such a dull, joyless life, always on the brink of death.
Ding Moyan’s eyes lowered slightly, her long black hair resting softly on her shoulders, emitting a delicate fragrance. If not for her fingers lightly tapping on her knees, she might have seemed asleep.
She closed her eyes to rest, but her body trembled as unpleasant memories resurfaced in slow motion. Her limbs grew numb, and the color drained from her face.
A loud smack jolted Ding Moyan out of her fearful trance.
Glancing at the score on the paper, Ding Bai’s face darkened as he slammed the test onto Ding Moyan’s desk before quickly retreating with the remaining papers.
Ding Moyan picked up the test and stared at the bold red numbers. Her brow twitched. “100 points?”
Ding Moyan turned her head in surprise and asked the system, “I remember handing in a blank paper.”
[I also remember that the Host handed in a blank paper.]
The system was equally puzzled about how a blank paper turned into a perfect score.
Ding Moyan unfolded the test paper and examined it repeatedly. “This handwriting doesn’t really look like mine either.”
She asked the system uncertainly, “Are you sure this novel isn’t a supernatural one?”
The system checked the genre again and confirmed it had nothing to do with the supernatural.
“O-one hundred! Ding Moyan, you’re amazing!” Wang Ye, sitting in the front row, turned around. His gaze fell on the score written on the paper in Ding Moyan’s hand, and he couldn’t help but feel shocked and impressed by her results.
“What, a hundred?!” The classmates who were still packing up their things quickly gathered around, their eyes widening in disbelief at the score on the paper.
“Ding Moyan scored a hundred on the Decision-Making and Operations exam!”
It wasn’t just because Ding Moyan was a top student that they were surprised, it was mainly because the last two questions on the paper not only carried a high percentage of the total marks but were also far beyond the standard curriculum. The questions were related to military internal command drills, and unless someone had family in that field, few could answer them correctly.
After the exam, almost everyone in the grade had privately estimated that no more than three or four people would score in the 90s.
Ding Moyan was surrounded tightly, with no room to breathe.
Ding Moyan: “You all!”
“Can we take a look at your paper?” An Omega, flushed from squeezing through the crowd, managed to grab a corner of the paper.
“Boss Ding, Boss Ding, can I see your answers to the last two questions?”
“School belle, you’re incredible! You’re definitely getting into Class A+ now. I bet you’ll rank first in A+.”
Ding Moyan stood awkwardly by her seat, unsure of what to say.
Should she tell them she had handed in a blank paper, only to miraculously find it fully written and graded with a perfect score?
At some point, Ding Bai walked over again.
“Ding Moyan.”
The crowd automatically made way for Ding Bai, who was distributing the papers.
She looked at Ding Moyan with a strange expression and handed her another paper, one that had only a name written on it, the rest completely blank. “Ding Moyan, is this your paper?”
