Transmigrated into a Trashy A and Ended Up with My Grudge-filled Best Friend and My Own CP - Chapter 24
Ding Moyan still remembered the first time she met Ye Ye, when the words “Mortal Enemy” loomed large above her head. Now, this same mortal enemy who once wished her dead was clinging to her leg, begging for a hug. The feeling was utterly unbearable.
The extra weight on her leg made Ding Moyan’s expression twist momentarily. Goosebumps rose all over her body as she forced herself to speak in a normal tone, “Let go.”
“No, no, hug!”
The female ghost that had been slapped away earlier let out a mournful, resentful wail. Just as everyone was on high alert, it dissipated before their eyes.
With the ghost gone, Ye Ye clung even more shamelessly to Ding Moyan’s leg, rubbing against it.
“You get lost.” Ding Moyan bent down, pried Ye Ye’s fingers open, and grabbed her collar to lift her up. Fortunately, Ye Ye was petite and weighed less than a hundred pounds, or else Ding Moyan might not have been able to lift her. “Go play over there.”
With that, Ding Moyan tossed Ye Ye like a misbehaving child toward Yu Sisi.
Yu Sisi, watching closely, ran to the landing spot and successfully caught Ye Ye.
She rapped Ye Ye on the head. “Ye Ye, stop fooling around. We have serious business to attend to.”
Ye Ye’s lips curled slightly as she stared at Ding Moyan with an eerie gaze, letting out a soft, “Oh.”
Only after the burden on her leg disappeared did Ding Moyan’s expression soften slightly.
[Not happy about your mortal enemy clinging to your leg and calling you ‘sister,’ Host?] The System Panel appeared before Ding Moyan’s eyes, swaying cheerfully, clearly amused.
Ding Moyan’s left eyelid twitched as she scoffed coldly, How about I pass this ‘blessing’ to you?
The System deliberately prodded her bad mood. [Host, you’re mad. You’re really mad.]
Ding Moyan: You get lost too.
The sight of the Long-Tongued Female Ghost earlier had been too horrifying. Yu Sisi pressed a hand to her racing heart as she slowly followed Ding Bai to the spot where the ghost had vanished.
The area now had traces of black ash. Ding Bai, the bravest of the three, crouched down and pinched a bit of the ash between her fingers.
“What do you think this ash is?” Her knowledge of obscure topics was limited, and she had no real clue.
Yu Sisi touched it and said offhandedly, “Could it be bone ash? Though I thought bone ash was supposed to be grayish-white.”
“If the person took too many medications while alive, their bones could turn black. It could also be from ingesting highly toxic substances.” Ding Moyan walked over. No one understood this better than her.
She had been a patient herself. Years of isolation during her seven or eight years of hospitalization had allowed resentment to fester deep within her. Her fragile, sensitive body had once made her only willing to confide in a fellow patient, a bedridden older sister. Later, that sister died too, and Ding Moyan had seen her ashes. They were black.
Death was common in hospitals. Many patients took medications regularly, and their ashes often turned black. It wasn’t unusual.
“So it really is bone ash?” Yu Sisi frowned, dusting off her hands and stepping away in disgust.
“Possibly.” Ding Moyan said. “Which means we should add another possibility to our list: illness, medication, and murder.”
“That ghost might have been the mistress of this villa.”
Yu Sisi and Wang Ye nodded in agreement.
Staring at the pile of black ash, Yu Sisi voiced her confusion. “But it’s weird how easily that ghost was destroyed.”
“It probably wasn’t destroyed just temporarily dispersed.” Ding Moyan glanced at the Ghost Amulet on her broom, which had crackled and burned halfway through.
“Mo Yan, you used the Ghost Amulet here?” Wang Ye frowned at the sight. This talisman was meant to block a ghost’s fatal strike using it here seemed like overkill.
Ding Moyan put away her broom. “Yeah, otherwise we couldn’t have driven that ghost away. It should still have one more use left.”
“Let’s go search the bedroom first.” Ding Moyan pointed at the staircase.
The villa’s second floor had three rooms, with the largest door in the center likely the master bedroom.
Walking two by two, Ding Moyan pushed open the door, deciding to start their investigation with the largest room first.
As the door swung open, another layer of dust billowed into the air.
Ding Moyan waved her hand to clear it and stepped inside. Her gaze immediately landed on a black-and-white photograph hanging above the bed.
The man in the photo wore a crisp suit, his handsome features exuding a sharp intensity. His piercing eyes stared straight ahead as if trying to see through the intruders standing before him.
An involuntary shiver ran down Ding Moyan’s spine, and she sneezed.
Compared to the living room, the bedroom was unnaturally cold. If possible, Ding Moyan would have loved to bundle up in a thick coat.
The group split up to search the room for clues.
“This must be her husband’s wardrobe,” Yu Sisi said, opening the closet to reveal rows of men’s clothing, almost entirely black.
Wang Ye noticed something odd. “There aren’t any women’s belongings here.”
“So this bedroom belonged to the female ghost’s husband,” Yu Sisi mused, rummaging through the vanity table. Aside from a few perfume bottles, it was empty.
Ding Moyan examined the bed. A thick layer of dust obscured the bedsheet’s original color. Wiping it with her finger revealed a yellowish stain likely once white but aged with time.
She raised an eyebrow. “Would a normal married couple sleep in separate rooms?”
Ye Ye twirled a lock of hair around her finger as she skipped around the room. “Of course not! Take my parents, they’re practically glued together every day.”
“Then this confirms their strained relationship,” Yu Sisi deduced, piecing together their findings. “Given how she became a ghost that long tongue and half-severed neck she was probably murdered by her husband. As for the motive, infidelity or money are both strong possibilities.”
“Didn’t the background mention they had two sons?” Ding Moyan said. “Do you really think only one woman died in this villa?”
“You mean, there are other ghosts here?” Yu Sisi paled, instinctively edging closer to Ding Bai as she swallowed hard.
“Maybe.” Ding Moyan couldn’t be certain. But based on her encounter with the female ghost, she seemed weak otherwise, the Ghost Amulet would have destroyed her completely rather than just injuring her.
Ding Moyan knew her luck was terrible. She doubted her mission would be as simple as eliminating one feeble ghost.
Her guard up, she scanned the room, there had to be other dangers lurking.
Yu Sisi rubbed her arms, voice trembling. “Alright, alright, let’s keep searching. See if there are any other clues in this room.”
Ye Ye casually flipped through the drawers. When she reached the last one, her expression changed.
She let out a surprised “Wow,” staring at the few interesting items in the drawer, which were placed in a way that seemed deliberately meant to be seen.
Ye Ye, her eyes brimming with amusement, waved at the clueless searchers nearby. “Everyone, are you really certain the lady of this house is actually a woman?”
