- Chapter 75 - The Tunnel
Jenny thought Annie had outmaneuvered her and panicked, immediately dropping to her knees without hesitation. She pleaded, “Please don’t tell Her Highness the Princess about this.”
“Alright,” Annie agreed readily, helping her up once more. Her tone was gentle, almost hypnotic “Don’t worry, Yu Ke knows nothing. She’s just concerned about you, like I am, dear little witch.”
Jenny took a soft, sharp breath, closed her eyes, clenched her teeth, and remained silent.
Annie knew she had guessed most of it correctly, but the finer details still needed Jenny’s confession. However, this beautiful Omega’s resolve was too strong; from her standpoint, it was impossible for her to willingly disclose anything to Annie.
But Annie had her own intelligence network, and besides… she had always known the whereabouts of the missing energy crystal. In other words, she had always known the true location of Lan Xing.
That crystal had long been modified by Annie using the most advanced proton technology. Once it left her side, it would periodically send signals to Annie’s spacecraft.
Recently, the signal source had been in the Persian Gulf.
The reason she had involved Yu Ke in such a roundabout way was to get closer to this unconventional princess and find an opportunity to recruit her as a capable ally.
She couldn’t risk telling Yu Ke the whole truth and had to test the waters step by step.
As for Jenny, Annie had no intention of using her. She only wanted to unravel the mysteries surrounding Jenny and eliminate any potential threats to herself. If… Jenny truly proved to be a dangerous element, Annie would consider discreetly neutralizing her.
The greatest ability of mermaids was emotional manipulation, a form of deception, in a way, achieving their goals by exploiting others’ feelings. Many who were manipulated never even realized it, attributing their troubles to their own wishful thinking or self-deception, unaware that everything had been subtly guided by someone else.
At least for now, Jenny no longer seemed as resistant or hostile toward Annie as she had been initially.
Jenny was clever, too. She quickly deduced how Annie had obtained the information and sighed, “I knew there had to be a reason you deliberately let me go.”
Annie smiled without responding, but Jenny was already scheming. She took the initiative to grasp Annie’s strong yet soft hand, her eyes conveying a mix of vulnerability and flattery, and asked softly, “If there were an opportunity right now to unify the Aquila System, allowing the All-free under your leadership to become the dominant force across the entire system, would you trust me and cooperate with me?”
How vast was the Aquila System? There were tens of thousands of civilized planets alone, with immense differences in language and culture among them. The regions that had joined the Interstellar Alliance accounted for only 8% of these civilized planets. To unify such a diverse galaxy, it seemed like an impossible fantasy.
Annie had dedicated her life to revolution but had never dreamed of liberating the entire interstellar realm. The little witch’s words, though enticing, were merely painting an illusion. She wouldn’t be fooled, yet she played along, responding to Jenny’s question: “What kind of opportunity?”
Knowing that Annie didn’t believe her, Jenny decided not to keep her in suspense any longer. She told Annie, “Something that will reshape the entire interstellar landscape is happening. Not long ago, someone returned from the Chaos Zone…”
Just as she was about to continue, Annie hastily interrupted, “Wait, what did you say?”
The interruption was so abrupt that Jenny sensed something amiss. Noticing Annie’s unnatural expression and the way her eyes darted around, Jenny silently mouthed, “Someone listening?”
Annie closed her eyes helplessly, and an awkward silence fell between them.
With just that opening remark from Jenny, Annie immediately grasped the gravity of the news. Lately, a strange tension had been permeating the Persian Gulf, and traitors had been emerging around her, leaving her deeply unsettled about the future.
She had sensed something brewing, but when Jenny spoke, she was both shocked and regretful, shocked that such crucial information had reached Jenny, and regretful that their conversation hadn’t been encrypted, allowing Jenny to reveal it so carelessly!
No doubt, the message had already been overheard.
Exchanging a glance, Jenny smirked coldly, “You still don’t trust me. If you did, you would have taken my words seriously from the start.”
Annie replied, “My mistake. I apologize.”
Even as she said this, she was using her eyes to silently urge the young witch before her to say as little as possible.
Jenny pondered with amusement before picking up where she left off, “The person who returned from the Chaos Zone brought crucial news, from now on, wormhole travel is possible. Interstellar journeys will become a reality, and in the times to come, the interstellar tunnels will become the ultimate prize across the cosmos.”
Annie listened with bated breath. Despite her silent warnings, Jenny had laid everything out in one go. She knew that not only was she on edge, but whoever was eavesdropping must be equally alarmed.
A faint smile playing on her lips, Jenny continued, “If All-Free gains control of the interstellar tunnels, managing the entire galaxy would be effortless. No matter how distant the stars, they will fall under the rule of revolutionaries like you. The sacred flame of revolution will dispel all darkness in the universe. Isn’t that your ultimate ideal?”
Annie’s lips parted in astonishment, speechless. She felt as though Jenny had gone mad or perhaps she herself had lost her mind, because she found herself burning with eagerness to pursue what Jenny was inciting her to do.
If Jenny’s words were true, then the most urgent task was to seize the initiative, occupy the entrance to the Chaos Zone, and secure the most vital resource!
Stirred by Jenny’s provocations, Annie’s eyes blazed with a mix of fury and desire. Each subsequent word from Jenny sent shivers down her spine. Gazing intently at Annie, Jenny enunciated clearly, “But if this tunnel falls into the hands of authoritarians, be it the Persian Empire or the Adams Empire, can you imagine what would become of the entire galaxy next?”
A flicker of terror flashed in the female revolutionary’s eyes. Jenny tightened her grip on her hand and continued with fervent persuasion: “Just as you imagine, endless warfare, countless planets ravaged, one after another dragged into the chaos. Humans speaking different languages, alien creatures, and lower life forms from various worlds, billions of beings perishing in terror, just like the once-green Aqua Planet, turning into wisps of dust across the cosmos. The victors hold power over life and death, forever reigning supreme, indulging in absolute authority. They don’t even live or die conventionally, cloning themselves generation after generation, becoming eternal rulers, ensuring the oppressed masses yearning for freedom never rise again!”
Annie’s features contorted into a grimace of fury. Clenching her fists, she shouted angrily, “No!” Every word Jenny spoke filled her with dread; the nightmarish world of endless conflict she depicted was sheer horror.
Jenny watched her expressionlessly before lowering her head and retrieving from her breast pocket the royal jade pendant Annie had entrusted to her hours earlier.
Annie noticed that the seemingly useless jade had become more translucent and luminous after passing through Jenny’s hands, as if emitting a faint glow.
Holding the royal pendant of Green Water Planet, Jenny spoke in a voice devoid of emotion: “After obtaining this pendant, I became even more certain of what will unfold in the Falconis System. My ancestors have guided me from beyond.”
Annie took a deep breath, staring at Jenny in disbelief. “My dear, you’ve awakened as a true witch.”
Before Green Water Planet’s destruction, it was customary to refer to all women from that world as witches. In reality, most witches possessed only the ability to sense others’ emotions and thoughts, a skill many extraterrestrial beings also shared.
Legendary true witches, however, could foresee the future, which was why they were feared by outsiders.
Jenny bowed her head, lost in thought.
Annie slowly shook her head, her expression grave, and enunciated each word clearly: “Do you know the fate of seers?”
Jenny lifted her gaze to meet Annie’s. Her striking, clear-eyed stare sent an inexplicable shudder through Annie. Tilting her chin up slightly, Annie continued in a gentle tone: “The reason Green Water Planet faced extinction was precisely because it produced too many gifted witches like you. Once witches awaken as seers, they inevitably become pawns in political games. ‘Innocent men are guilty of possessing treasures’ when pirates attacked Green Water Planet, not a single nation in the galaxy offered aid. Like the seers of the past, you will die at the hands of your master.”
Die at the hands of your master.
Jenny savored these words, her mind conjuring the face of her beloved princess. Pressing her lips together, she unexpectedly revealed a satisfied smile.
