- Chapter 31.1 - Wasteland
How could she prove she wasn’t incapable of pheromone marking?
Yu Ke suddenly wondered, would she have to get Lan Xing pregnant with her child to sufficiently demonstrate this point?
But that would be taking too big of a leap.
“Right, I’m just a weak Alpha,” Yu Ke began to slack off. “Do whatever you want. Anyway, you can’t even beat me at Gomoku.”
Lan Zhen: “… ???” She actually admitted it??? Doesn’t she have any pride left? And are we never going to let the Gomoku incident go? Are we going to keep dragging it out like this???
Indeed, once a person starts slacking off, no one can hurt them, instead, they’ll end up getting pricked by the backlash.
When Lan Zhen realized she could no longer provoke this weak Alpha, she didn’t feel proud. Instead, she inexplicably felt defeated.
A few peaceful days passed like this.
They were still half a month away from Datianxi, and the “Princess” had completely left the territory of the Ferrari Kingdom, cruising steadily along interstellar route 210.
“There’s a Feirman Colony 356 ahead, with a habitability rating of 3 and a civilization level of 3,” Li Jian’an said in the lounge, studying the map as he asked Yu Ke, “Should we go check it out?””
“What’s there to do there?” Xiao Nan brought over afternoon tea snacks and asked curiously.
“Mainly because it’s close to us. It’s a fuel planet, so we can stock up on some fuel.” Li Jian’an browsed through the data on Colony 356, but frowned when he came across surface photos.
The planet’s surface looked dilapidated, covered in heavy industrial structures and various energy extraction equipment. Yet, behind the massive industrial complex, the colonists lived as scavengers.
Everyone frowned. Xiao Nan exclaimed, “This place is way too backward. How can it claim to have a civilization level of 3? Is this false advertising?”
Li Jian’an hadn’t expected the colony to be worse than he imagined. He awkwardly said, “Indeed, this place is too run-down. We can’t bring Princess Lan Xing to a place like this…”
Yu Ke wholeheartedly agreed, nodding slightly before turning to Lan Xing. “What do you think?”
The colony gave off an overwhelming cyberpunk vibe. If they went there, they might face savage plundering.
“But you just said it’s close to us,” Lan Xing looked at Yu Ke seriously, “and it’s an energy planet, right?”
“Right, this planet has high output of fusion fuel, and the price is more than half cheaper than at Datianxi…” Li Jian’an said while checking the data.
“Then let’s go,” Lan Xing turned to Yu Ke. “We can replenish the Princess’s fuel supply, or even transport some to Datianxi to sell. We should be able to make some money, right?”
“Theoretically, yes,” Yu Ke smiled, “but we don’t really need fuel right now.”
Most importantly, she didn’t want to take Lan Xing to such a filthy place.
“We’ll run out of fuel eventually. It doesn’t take up much space, so storing more is more beneficial than harmful.” Lan Xing stated her opinion.
And indeed, that was the case.
Their ship, the “Princess,” like most interstellar vessels, used nuclear fusion propulsion technology, with high-purity deuterium as fuel. A small canister was enough to keep them traveling for a long time.
It was portable, safe, and reliable, the only downside was the cost.
“If we go to this colonial planet to purchase some fuel, just selling it at Datianxi would cover the travel costs for this trip.”
“I don’t agree with this,” Lan Zhen spoke up after a long silence. “Going there is a waste of time. Besides, the Princess is a private spacecraft, not some large starship or cargo vessel. Going to such a place makes me feel low.”
Yu Ke asked, “What do the rest of you think?”
“I’m neutral. I think it’s optional,” Li Jian’an said.
“Of course we should go,” Lan Xing swiped her screen, estimating the distance. “It would take only a day at most to go there and back. How could that be a waste of time? Besides, this journey is bound to cost a lot. I don’t want Her Highness to bear such a huge expense all the time. If there’s an opportunity to earn money, we should take it.”
The last crew member, Xiao Nan, also voiced her opinion: “I’m in favor of going too. After all, we need to think long-term.”
Unexpectedly, the two Omegas were the most supportive of heading to the colonial planet.
Yu Ke was quite surprised. In her impression, Lan Xing was ethereal and detached from worldly matters, yet her considerations were surprisingly practical.
How could such a girl not be captivating?
With the ratio of supporters to opponents at 2:1, the matter was settled without any suspense.
They would arrive at the colonial planet in two hours. Li Jian’an thoughtfully brought out radiation-proof suits for everyone to protect them from the high levels of nuclear radiation on the planet’s surface.
Only Lan Xing was left out, as if it were only natural to overlook her.
Lan Xing glanced at Li Jian’an, who was explaining how to wear the protective suits and even carefully helped Xiao Nan fasten hers.
As for Yu Ke, she took her suit and went into her room to change, emerging already dressed in the protective gear.
Lan Zhen also went to prepare, leaving Lan Xing standing there, unsure of what to do.
“Um, excuse me… why… why don’t I have a protective suit?” Lan Xing asked Li Jian’an softly.
Yu Ke, having changed, came out and looked at her. “You don’t need to disembark. Stay on the Princess and wait for us.”
Lan Xing’s delicate eyebrows furrowed, her eyes dimming. She looked at Yu Ke, then at the others. Clearly, she was the only one being excluded!
How could the little mermaid endure such unfair treatment?
Her Highness’s tone made it sound like there was no room for discussion!
Feeling dejected, Lan Xing returned to her room.
As the spacecraft gradually approached the colonial planet, everyone made their final preparations and contacted a guide on the surface. Just as they were about to land, Lan Xing emerged, having changed her clothes.
She was wearing a pilot’s uniform, practical and elegant, a look none of them had ever seen on her before.
During her time on the spacecraft, she had always worn dresses, beautiful, flowing gowns, and her shoes were either macaron-colored princess heels or fluffy slippers. Her long hair was either left loose or simply braided. At all times, she was polite, gentle, and soft-spoken, her every move that of a perfect princess.
She was elegant and beautiful, but unlike Lan Zhen’s imposing aura, she was approachable. She often sought them out in the lounge to play chess, her temperament genuine and unpretentious. Such a perfect princess should be like a flower in a greenhouse, protected and cherished by all of them.
And now, the little princess had shed her usual dress and donned a pilot’s uniform, which surprisingly fit her perfectly. The pants were slightly loose but tapered from the knees, tucked into a pair of stylish, gleaming black high-top leather boots. What truly caught everyone’s eye, however, was her long hair tied into a high ponytail, revealing a stunning face and making her neck appear even more slender, perfectly complementing the uniform’s collar.
Her outfit was both sharp and dashing, and instantly, all eyes were on her, accompanied by a chorus of “Wow.” Yu Ke was also captivated by Lan Xing’s appearance, unable to look away.
“So beautiful,” Yu Ke said, looking her up and down with a grin that wouldn’t fade. “Truly our little princess!”
Lan Xing felt a mix of happiness and discontent, gazing longingly as everyone prepared to depart while she had to stay behind on the ship, guarding it alone.
The reason she dressed like this was because she desperately wanted to go out too!
Since she couldn’t join the others in disembarking, she could only change into her “going-out” clothes to get a taste of the experience on the ship.
She paraded around in front of the crew, and everyone could tell that Lan Xing really wanted to go with them, but they all tacitly avoided mentioning it.
Li Jian’an touched the fabric of her uniform and exclaimed, “Wow! With this on, you’ve completely transformed from a stunning beauty into a dashing Alpha! Right, Xiao Nan?”
Xiao Nan nodded vigorously. “Yes, yes, it looks so good! Right, Captain?”
“Mm-hmm,” Yu Ke said. “It’s absolutely stunning. This uniform is so handsome it’s blinding my 24k gold dog eyes. If I keep staring at you any longer, my heart won’t be able to take it for even one more second, let alone go out with you. If we were to go out together, your beauty would outshine all of us, and the people on Planet 356 wouldn’t even recognize me as an Alpha. So, let’s just admire you a little longer, and we’ll see you later. When we come back, promise us you’ll still be wearing this uniform, okay, my dear little princess?”
Lan Xing: “…”
Lan Zhen: “…I never expected you to spout such a long-winded pile of nonsense.”
Yu Ke: “╭(╯^╰)╮”
Li Jian’an chuckled sheepishly, while Xiao Nan suddenly felt a pang of sympathy for Lan Xing, who looked utterly dejected. Without making a fuss, Lan Xing knew Yu Ke wouldn’t let her leave the ship and could only watch as they departed.
“What a jerk,” Lan Zhen muttered as she walked past Yu Ke.
Yu Ke remained expressionless, gathered her things and money, and prepared to set off. The ship had landed near the largest industrial town on Planet 365, where a local guide had been waiting for some time. He greeted them respectfully as they disembarked, exchanging polite pleasantries.
The guide was a dark-skinned man dressed only in a simple, raincoat-like protective suit. Yu Ke could understand the language he spoke, and after adjusting to the tone, she found she could speak it as well. It seemed the original host had learned this language and possessed an exceptional talent for languages.
After disembarking, Yu Ke’s first question was, “Is it safe to leave the ship here?”
“No one will take your ship, my esteemed guest,” the guide replied with a bow and a smile.
Yu Ke wasn’t worried about the ship being stolen; she was worried about Lan Xing…
“Are there any space pirates or scam groups around here?”
Like someone pulling a scam to trick Lan Xing into opening the ship’s door and then kidnapping her or something.
The guide clearly didn’t quite understand Yu Ke’s meaning, but Li Jian’an did. He said, “No need to worry! Our Princess ship is equipped with advanced detection systems. Any creature attempting to invade will be intercepted!”
Yu Ke thought to herself, that was true.
Even Lan Zhen, who usually opposed Yu Ke, said, “She’ll be safer up there.”
Right? Yu Ke thought the same.
So even if it made the little princess unhappy, she couldn’t bring her down.
Watching her fully equipped, even with a hiking backpack prepared, yet not being allowed to leave the spacecraft, Yu Ke found it both amusing and heartbreaking.
Lan Xing was never spoiled; she was so understanding it hurt. Clearly aggrieved, she had no choice but to accept Yu Ke’s decision without fuss, obedient and compliant.
Both were princesses, but Lan Zhen’s personality was worlds apart from hers.
Perhaps it was because Lan Xing knew she was a clone, destined to have fewer choices.
The group followed the guide onto the jet car, ready to head to the factory to inspect the goods. As the engine started, Yu Ke finally couldn’t hold back and called for him to stop.
Lan Xing rarely made any requests. If she couldn’t fulfill this one, how much happiness and joy could she offer her in the future?
Yu Ke finally changed her mind. She got off the jet car and hurried toward the Princess ship, then broke into a run, heading straight for where Lan Xing was.
The ship’s lift platform descended. Yu Ke climbed onto it and was sprayed all over by the disinfection system. As the mist cleared, she saw Lan Xing standing right in front, looking at her with uncertain eyes.
Because Yu Ke had forbidden her to leave the ship, she hadn’t even stepped onto the lift platform.
“My princess,” Yu Ke panted, removing her mask and walking over calmly. She reached out her hand and said gently, “I made a decision I regret. I thought leaving you alone on the ship would be safer.”
Lan Xing’s lips parted slightly. “And then?”
“And then I realized how foolish I was. How could I leave you here all alone?” Yu Ke said. “Come down with us, my dear princess.”
Lan Xing’s eyes gradually brightened. She stared for a long moment before tentatively placing her hand in Yu Ke’s, still uncertain as she asked, “Can I… really go down with you?”
“Do you want to?”
“Very much,” Lan Xing finally admitted her true feelings. “I want to see the people here…”
“Alright then,” Yu Ke gazed at her delicate, pink face. “Kiss me, and I’ll agree to anything you want.”
