Transmigrated into a Scummy Alpha Playboy in Ancient Times - Chapter 113
Zhou Zixuan carefully pulled the blanket up around Shen Yining again, then brought over a round stool and sat quietly by her bedside. Sniffling softly, she whispered, “Your Highness, please don’t let anything happen to you. Do you remember what you promised me? We were supposed to get married this year. You told me to wait for your wedding. Please get better soon, alright?”
As if remembering something, Zhou Zixuan gently reached into her robe and took out five small pig-shaped sachets, each in a different color. She placed them one by one on the edge of Shen Yining’s bed and said in a warm voice, “Look, I made these for you. Each one has a little pig on it, just like you. So cute. If you wake up soon, I’ll make you even more of them, alright?”
Zhou Zixuan quickly wiped away her tears. She reached out, wanting to touch Shen Yining again, but pulled her hand back. Earlier, she had touched her face out of worry, but now she felt too shy to get that close again.
She sat beside her, looking at Shen Yining’s pale face, and started talking softly again. “I was so scared yesterday. I didn’t sleep all night. Every time I closed my eyes, I kept thinking about you. Now that I’ve finally been allowed into the palace to see you, I feel a little more at ease.”
Shen Yining was lying in bed, half-conscious. Her arms throbbed painfully, as if her flesh had been torn open. Her whole body felt helpless, like a fish laid out on a cutting board.
Her eyelids felt heavy, and she didn’t have the strength to open her eyes. Still, she seemed to hear Zhou Zixuan’s voice. She wanted to open her eyes and look at her Sister Xuan. She wanted to tell her not to worry, that she was going to be fine. But she didn’t even have the strength to lift her eyelids and could only feel anxious inside.
“You’re sweating so much. Let me wipe it for you,” Zhou Zixuan said gently. She took out her own soft handkerchief and carefully wiped the sweat from Shen Yining’s forehead.
Shen Yining thought she could smell a faint orchid scent. She wanted to breathe in more of it, but pain flared in her shoulders again, almost making her lose consciousness.
She had no choice but to relax. The gentle touch of the cloth on her cheek eased some of her pain, and she felt a bit more comfortable.
Zhou Zixuan stayed with her for a while, then stepped out to call the imperial physicians back in. Still worried, she asked them to check Shen Yining’s pulse again. Only after confirming that her condition was stable did Zhou Zixuan finally let out a long sigh of relief.
The Empress, Shen Kaiyuan, noticed how closely Zhou Zixuan stayed by the bed, unwilling to leave. She smiled softly and said, “Zixuan, stay here with Ning’er for the day. When the sun is about to set, I’ll have someone escort you back to the Grand Preceptor’s residence.”
“Thank you, Your Majesty,” Zhou Zixuan replied quickly. Of course she wanted to stay with her little princess. They hadn’t even married yet, and she had already nearly lost her.
Seeing that everything at the Hall of Diligent Governance was under control, Shen Zhengchu stepped forward and said, “Your Majesty, Yu’er didn’t return home last night. Her mother and Yu’er’s betrothed have been very worried. If there’s nothing urgent here, may I take her back to reassure them before returning to the palace?”
The Empress nodded. “That’s fine. Ning’er’s condition has stabilized, so Yu’er should go home and rest.”
“Thank you, Your Majesty. Then I’ll bring Yu’er home to put everyone’s minds at ease,” Shen Zhengchu said respectfully.
“Aunt, I’ll return first thing tomorrow morning to visit Her Highness,” Shen Xingyue added, bowing politely.
“Good,” said the Empress, giving her a small nod. “It’s rare to find someone so thoughtful.”
After Shen Xingyue left the palace, she and Shen Zhengchu rode in a carriage back to the Prince’s Residence.
On the way, Shen Zhengchu finally asked the question that had been weighing on his mind. “What exactly happened yesterday? How did the Crown Princess end up so badly injured?”
Shen Xingyue answered calmly, “The Fifth Princess, Shen Yijia, had people disguised as refugees to create chaos. She and Shen Yiqian each sent archers to ambush the Crown Princess. Thankfully, Her Highness survived. I led the Yuning Guard to the South Gate and saw the rioters were already out of control. I gave the order to allow the guards to shoot any rioters who disobeyed or caused trouble. We also hung several of their bodies on the city walls to send a warning. That was the only way we managed to stabilize the situation.”
She paused to take a breath, then continued, “Later, I had Han Shu surround the rioters, then escorted the Crown Princess back to the palace with the Yuning Guard. I also left a thousand soldiers to help the city patrol restore order. That’s pretty much what happened. Oh, and Shen Yiqian and Shen Yijia were both sentenced to death by Her Majesty.”
The more Shen Zhengchu listened, the more shocked he looked. By the end, he couldn’t hide his disbelief. He stared at his daughter and asked, “This isn’t a small matter. Are you telling the truth?”
“It’s true,” Shen Xingyue replied. “Both of the imperial consorts were also placed under house arrest. I have a feeling the court will be in an uproar in the coming days, but that doesn’t really involve me. I rarely attend court anyway.”
“We’ve lost two royals in a single day? And the Crown Princess is still in danger?” Shen Zhengchu looked deeply troubled.
Shen Xingyue tried to reassure him. “From what I saw, Ning’er’s recovery is going well. In ten days or so, she should start getting better. You don’t need to worry too much. As for those two who were up to no good, it’s better they’re gone. Now the officials at court have no one else to support. With only the Crown Princess left, there’s no more room for internal struggle.”
Shen Zhengchu thought it over. That did make sense. He turned to her again. “So it was you who calmed the South Gate?”
He still couldn’t quite believe that his daughter had made such a bold decision—one that involved ordering soldiers to open fire in such a dangerous situation.
Shen Xingyue leaned back slightly and said, “There was no time to hesitate. If we didn’t act fast, the entire capital would’ve fallen into chaos.”
She was clearly exhausted and just wanted to get back to see Su Muyu.
The carriage moved quickly. Before long, they arrived at the Prince’s Residence. As soon as they stepped down, Shen Xingyue looked at her father and said, “Father, I’ll go check on Yu’er first. You take your time.”
Without waiting for a reply, she rushed off toward Feixue Courtyard. She hadn’t come home the night before, and her little kitten must have been worried sick.
She hurried through the corridors and into her room. The moment she opened the door, she saw Su Muyu curled up asleep on the soft couch. At the sound, Su Muyu stirred and opened her eyes. When she saw it was Shen Xingyue, her eyes immediately turned red.
“Why are you only just coming back?”
Seeing her about to cry, Shen Xingyue quickly walked over and pulled her into her arms. She gently kissed her on the side of her face and softly explained, “It was too chaotic last night. Aunt didn’t feel safe letting me return, so she had me stay in the palace. Didn’t they send someone to let you all know I was safe?”
“I was still scared something might happen to you. The city was so dangerous last night.” Su Muyu’s voice trembled with emotion as she spoke.
Shen Xingyue’s heart ached. She gently lifted Su Muyu and settled her into her lap. She wiped away her tears with a handkerchief, her voice tender. “I’m right here. I’m perfectly fine.”
Seeing that Su Muyu’s eyes were still red and her breathing a little unsteady, Shen Xingyue leaned in and kissed her gently on the lips. With a soft smile, she added, “I didn’t even get a scratch. Not a single hair out of place. If you don’t believe me, maybe my wife should give me a thorough check. What do you think?”
Su Muyu’s ears turned slightly red as she buried herself in Shen Xingyue’s arms, holding her tightly. “I’m just glad you’re safe. I was so scared.”
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have made my Yu’er worry like that. I should’ve come back earlier to be with you. It was my fault, I won’t do it again, alright?” Shen Xingyue kissed the tip of Su Muyu’s ear and gently rubbed the small of her back.
“Mmm… don’t tease me. I don’t have the strength,” Su Muyu murmured, her voice soft and a little whiny. She tried to resist but didn’t really mean it. She leaned against Shen Xingyue, eyes red, gazing up at her.
The way her little kitten looked at her made Shen Xingyue’s heart melt. She pulled Su Muyu closer and kissed her gently, slowly, until Su Muyu was breathless and had to pull away.
“I’ll go take a bath and change my clothes. Then I’ll come back and hold you properly, alright?” Shen Xingyue said softly, her tone full of warmth. She gently played with Su Muyu’s fingertips—her hands were long and slender, and Shen Xingyue found them oddly soothing to touch.
Su Muyu didn’t reply. She simply buried her face deeper into Shen Xingyue’s chest.
Looking at the clingy girl in her arms, Shen Xingyue’s eyes softened even more. Her voice became even gentler. “Once I’m all clean, I’ll bring you to bed and hold you properly, okay?”
Su Muyu looked up at her with watery eyes. She had been terrified the night before, worried sick something would happen to Shen Xingyue. Now that she was finally home, Su Muyu didn’t want to be apart from her even for a moment. “Then I’ll bathe with you. I don’t want to be away from you.”
Hearing her kitten speak so sweetly, Shen Xingyue quickly agreed. “Alright, I’ll help you wash. After that, we’ll cuddle up and have a proper rest. You must’ve stayed up last night, worried about me, right?”
“Mhm. At least you know that,” Su Muyu muttered, shooting her a faint glare.
Shen Xingyue chuckled and leaned in to kiss her again. Then she got up and called toward the side room, telling the maids to prepare water for a bath. After that, she came back to the couch and pulled Su Muyu into her lap again.
“I need to return to the palace tomorrow,” she said softly. “I wonder if the little princess is awake by now, with her sweetheart by her side.”
“What happened to Her Highness?” Su Muyu asked quickly, concerned.
“She was nearly killed by her own brother and sister,” Shen Xingyue replied. “She’s still unconscious. But if she can make it through the next few days, she should be fine. She’s still young. She’ll recover faster.”
She added the last part gently, afraid of worrying her little kitten any more.
Hearing that even the Crown Princess had been seriously injured, Su Muyu’s heart tightened. She hugged Shen Xingyue even tighter. “From now on, no matter what you do, you have to be extra careful.”
“I know,” Shen Xingyue whispered, kissing her ear again. “I still want to have a little baby with my wife. I won’t let anything happen to myself, don’t worry.”
Su Muyu blushed deeply at her words and buried her face in Shen Xingyue’s arms. Her voice was even softer now. “Tell me… we’ve been so close so often. Why haven’t we had a baby yet?”
As soon as she said it, Su Muyu turned red all the way to her ears. Was it really that frequent? Now that she thought about it, it kind of was. Sometimes all she wanted was a hug, but then Shen Xingyue would hold her… and it always turned into more. She never had the heart to stop her.
In this world, having children depended on the merging of pheromones. Shen Xingyue also knew that giving birth in this ancient time was risky. She actually preferred to enjoy more time with her little kitten, just the two of them.
So, she kissed Su Muyu’s bright red ear and whispered with a smile, “Maybe we just haven’t tried hard enough. Maybe we need to do it even more.”
Su Muyu quickly covered Shen Xingyue’s mouth with her hand. She knew it, Shen Xingyue was just trying to tease her again.
