Chapter 57: The Disrupter
Kentya’s flesh and blood were devoured nearly to completion. When Anya, the gluttonous Demonic Shadow, prepared to continue its feast, Yin Shaoqing tapped its skull with a slender, pale finger.
“Don’t be so greedy.” The Heim family always possessed the greatest patience and tolerance for the Demonic Shadows they summoned.
She reached out, demanding something from the most stingy creature in the abyss: “Give me the bone in your mouth.”
The lovely lolita and the hideous Demonic Shadow stood amidst the crimson blood, treading on Moon Roses to demand a white bone. This scene made onlookers swallow hard in terror. The magic instructor, shaking with fear, knew all too well that Demonic Shadows were known as creatures that “only take but never give.” Snatching food from their mouths was incredibly difficult.
However, the Heim family could never be viewed through a conventional lens. The shadow, which a moment ago was so greedy it wouldn’t let a drop of blood go, obediently handed a segment of Kentya’s finger bone to Yin Shaoqing.
The Heim family had long ago struck a contract with the Lord of the Abyss. On the other side of the River Styx, by way of the Ferryman’s tattered boat, the magical artifact The Book of Death granted them the qualification to bring back souls. The price was the innate “warning” ability of the Heim direct line—the ability to signal the coming of great cataclysms.
“Gods are not immortal. The Mitgard Holy Court sensed it when the dragons perished; Alf learned darkness had arrived when the last light elf vanished.”
The powerful and arrogant Lord of the Abyss gazed with crimson eyes at the Heim Patriarch, who walked upon the abyss though originating from outside it. The Lord needed a wise one to help the abyss evade the end of annihilation. “The Heim family shall be the final line of defense between the Great Cataclysm and the Abyss,” the first Patriarch had declared.
And the people of the Heim family, who always kept their word, executed this “oath”—which hardly felt like a contract—for three hundred eras as if it were the most natural, albeit tedious, thing in the world. This contract was as enduring as the history and glory of the Heim family itself.
Flesh grew from the white bone, and in an instant, it turned into a complete body. A black parchment spread between Yin Shaoqing’s hands, and she plucked a soul covered in black filth from within it. The process of pulling Kentya’s soul out was very smooth—so smooth that Yin Shaoqing wondered if the soul was so foul that even The Book of Death refused to keep it.
The resurrected Princess Kentya stood there like a mindless idiot, wooden and unmoving. If not for the terror in her eyes, Yin Shaoqing would have wondered if her resurrection spell had failed.
“Now then… whose turn is it next~” The Tyrant of the Heim family clearly hadn’t had enough fun. Her slender fingers skipped playfully across terrified faces, stopping and starting in high spirits, making those countenances—already distorted by fear—twist even further.
However, just as she chose her next prey, a dark figure suddenly crashed through the wall, falling violently at Yin Shaoqing’s feet accompanied by the deafening sound of thunder. The little lolita, who lacked confidence in her own familiar, slowly turned her head.
She saw a massive hole blown through the wall between the Magic and Combat classes. Her frenzied familiar was stepping over a pile of “garbage” (bodies), staring fixedly at her master. Clearly, expecting an irrational half-demon to study properly was impossible.
“Hurr…” The savage beast stepped over the weak, social herbivores, pressing toward her master with low growls and wild oppression. Meeting those greedy and reckless blood-red eyes that wanted to devour everything, Yin Shaoqing suddenly remembered what she had promised this half-demon earlier.
To let her do as she pleased…
“Ah…” The unscrupulous Tyrant actually hesitated for once. This was not a good place to let her run wild. Thus, she beckoned to the demoness who was staring at her and unconsciously licking her fangs.
The tall half-demon, whose eyes were full of nothing but the little lolita, charged over instantly, only to have Yin Shaoqing grab her collar and pull her down forcefully. The sweet-looking lolita gritted her teeth and ground out words into Ladon’s ear: “Put away that look like you’re going to eat someone.”
“You are a half-demon, not one of those pure-blooded low-level beasts. Immediately, right now, learn to control yourself.” Yin Shaoqing disdainfully released the black collar around Ladon’s neck. In her view, those who couldn’t control themselves were trash—especially a certain half-demon who wouldn’t listen to reason.
Unaware of how she had provoked her master, Ladon stayed obediently by Yin Shaoqing’s side. Then, the two were—honorably yet predictably—”invited” to the Vice-Principal’s office.
Sitting in the magnificent and comfortable office, the elderly Vice-Principal was gulping down bottle after bottle of calming magic potions. They tasted terrible, but to avoid committing violent corporal punishment on her students, she had to calm down.
She only calmed down a little bit.
“Yin, you’ve gone too far!” The Vice-Principal’s eyes flared with anger. Yet the two sitting opposite her showed not a shred of remorse. The infuriating little lolita even narrowed her eyes and said with a smile, “I didn’t do much; it was just a normal exchange between classmates.”
“Normal exchange???” the Vice-Principal shrieked in disbelief. She shouldn’t have trusted that a member of the Heim family would understand the word “normal.” “A normal exchange is not attempted murder. You and your familiar were killing people.”
Setting aside Yin Shaoqing’s deeds, let’s talk about Ladon. The once gentle and orderly captain of the guard had turned into a monster that enjoyed tearing off her classmates’ limbs. “You should have her leave the school,” the Vice-Principal said, clearly regretting her agreement to let Ladon return. She even spoke with a threatening tone, her head throbbing: “Yin, if you can’t manage her, I will revoke her right to study at the academy.”
For the fearless Heim family who regarded nothing as sacred, she could only use their familiars to threaten them.
“That’s a good idea.” Surprisingly, Yin Shaoqing didn’t get angry. She stroked Ladon’s collar, exerting effort to suppress the urge to twist the Vice-Principal’s neck. Then, she said to her old friend who dared to target her familiar: “You could also send us to the Trasil Front to fight.”
If she gained enough merit in battle, Ladon could still advance in grades.
“That’s too dangerous.” Although angry at their disruption of order, the Vice-Principal still frowned, disagreeing with Yin Shaoqing taking such a risk. The Trasil Front was a desolate land of despair, breeding countless monsters that could neither be killed off nor sealed; the three great families and the Holy Court had to station troops there to continuously clear them.
“Whether they are dangerous or not, I don’t know, but…” The exquisite lolita gave a wicked smile. “I do know that if we are forced to stay in the academy, we will become the synonym for danger.”
She had no desire to share a room with a bunch of fools. Obviously, for the safety of all teachers and students, the Vice-Principal had to admit she must agree to Yin Shaoqing’s request. After all, the Trasil battlefield would only cost Yin Shaoqing her life, but keeping her at the academy would cost everyone theirs.
Unable to sway Yin Shaoqing, the Vice-Principal sighed and approved the application. She watched the two leave early against regulations, her head aching—she truly wondered if they were rushing back to do something else “bad.”
The Vice-Principal’s intuition was always accurate. In a dim room, the tall half-demon lunged at the thin, cute lolita, tearing her clothes and biting fiercely into that snow-white neck.
