Transmigrated as the Top-Tier Alpha's Secretly Married Ex-Wife - Chapter 50
Chapter 50
The water in the pot was replenished twice with cold water. When the dumplings floated on the third time, Su Tuantuan asked Mo Xian, “Do you want soup dumplings or dry ones?”
Mo Xian used her bathroom to remove her makeup. Her face was clean and plain, showing fatigue but also contentment. “Either is fine.”
Su Tuantuan served a plate of dry dumplings, prepared a dipping sauce, grabbed two pairs of chopsticks, and then poured her a glass of hot water.
There was plenty of food at home, but they hadn’t eaten dinner there today. Since it was so late, Mo Xian probably wouldn’t eat much. She took out a vacuum-sealed platter of assorted braised meats, sliced them, arranged them on a plate, and added a fruit platter.
It was still the strawberries she bought in the morning.
It looked like something was still missing, but at least it wasn’t completely empty.
Mo Xian wiped her hands and walked over. Seeing the two pairs of chopsticks Su Tuantuan set out, her eyes curved into a smile. Su Tuantuan looked up at her. “Would you like a drink?”
She added, “I have some plum wine at home. I stocked up for the New Year.”
“Sure.”
Mo Xian could finally sit down.
She had been repeatedly rehearsing and traveling for the past month. Her schedule was tight and uncoordinated. She only slept for three hours a day, and her new album naturally took a backseat, left unattended.
But she had wanted this moment for a long time.
No one else, just the two of them, sitting quietly to share a meal.
Su Tuantuan brought the wine, pouring a glass for each of them. Mo Xian tasted a dumpling. “Corn and chicken filling?”
That was a surprise.
Su Tuantuan’s dipping sauce was simple: a bit of minced garlic, chili oil, and vinegar. The flavor was just right and not overwhelming. She hadn’t eaten much at Sister Zhou’s place and didn’t feel hungry, but seeing Mo Xian eat one dumpling after another, she tried one herself.
“I wanted to make beef ones, but I went too late and only found steak.”
Comparing this to the full banquet at Sister Zhou’s, Su Tuantuan thought these dumplings felt a bit humble. “But they taste decent, right?”
Her cooking skills had never really let her down.
Mo Xian smiled. “They’re delicious.”
Receiving confirmation, Su Tuantuan felt much better. The two didn’t speak. The TV was still on. At this point, the gala was drawing to a close, but Su Tuantuan no longer cared what program was on.
Mo Xian finished the entire plate of dumplings.
Su Tuantuan only ate a few strawberries.
After eating, Mo Xian voluntarily washed the dishes. When she finished and came out, she wanted to say goodbye but couldn’t bear to leave. She pulled out the New Year’s gift she had prepared beforehand. “Tuantuan, this is for you.”
Su Tuantuan was on the sofa watching TV. She looked up at the sound. Mo Xian had prepared a small box. Su Tuantuan didn’t take it. “What is it?”
Mo Xian opened the small box.
A sweet, crisp musical sound came from inside. A girl with a green scarf tied on her hand and wearing a green dress was spinning inside.
Su Tuantuan smiled.
“Thank you.”
She held the small box, examining it, and realized the little girl looked quite like her.
The tune playing from the music box was “Happy New Year.”
“I really like it.”
Su Tuantuan closed the small box, looked at the time. “Since I can’t sleep anyway, how about another drink?”
Mo Xian agreed.
The two cuddled on the sofa, drinking wine. Su Tuantuan switched channels a few times, somehow landing on a nature documentary.
Seeing Mo Xian watch intently, she didn’t change the channel, leisurely replying to WeChat messages on her phone.
Her social media feed was flooded with New Year posts.
Sun Qiushuang: “Spent the New Year with my studio colleagues. Wishing everyone prosperity and good fortune in the new year!”
Jiang Zhizhi: “First time celebrating the New Year on set. Called my parents. I miss them so much, boohoohoo.”
Bai Xue: “This New Year was a f*cking mess.”
Sister Zhou: “Sending good luck, blessings, and peace for the New Year. Sister Zhou wishes everyone a Happy New Year…”
The social media feed and the fireworks outside were equally lively. Su Tuantuan was glad that fireworks weren’t banned here.
Mo Xian suddenly leaned in. “I’m a little tired.”
Su Tuantuan was startled. She turned her head and found Mo Xian’s eyes slightly glazed, truly looking drunk.
Su Tuantuan looked at the time. “Aren’t you going home?”
Mo Xian shook her head. “No, my family is all abroad. We rarely celebrated together in the past.”
As for her staff, they needed a break too.
She couldn’t expect them to revolve around her all day.
Su Tuantuan pushed her away. “I’ll make the bed. You can sleep in the guest room tonight.”
Mo Xian mumbled an agreement. She had drunk most of her plum wine. This wine was brewed with sorghum liquor, and the alcohol content was quite high. Anyone with low alcohol tolerance would probably pass out after one glass.
Su Tuantuan suddenly regretted letting Mo Xian drink.
They were both adults. If anything unexpected happened after drinking, she would be responsible.
She went to make the guest room bed. When she came out, Mo Xian had already fallen asleep slumped on the sofa.
Perhaps she was too tired. Her long legs were curled up on the sofa. She had thoughtfully taken off her shoes. The heating in the house was high, but she was still hugging her arms, rubbing them together.
Su Tuantuan nudged her. “Go sleep in the room.”
Mo Xian mumbled an answer, sleepy-headed and unable to open her eyes. “I’ll just sleep here.”
She didn’t move at all.
Su Tuantuan tried to pull her arm but gave up after failing to move her.
She quickly tidied the table, moving it away in case Mo Xian rolled off the sofa and hit the corner. She pulled the rug up to the sofa and then went to get a quilt.
Mo Xian hugged the soft, fluffy quilt, rubbing her face on it and falling asleep instantly.
Completely un-wakeable.
Su Tuantuan turned off the TV and went back to her room to sleep.
Having someone in the living room truly felt different. It felt like she had company.
Lying in bed, she held the small music box. When she opened it, the little girl spun and spun.
There was another button inside the box.
She pressed it, and Mo Xian’s low, gentle singing emerged.
“Sleep, sleep, my dear baby…”
The button was very obvious. Su Tuantuan hadn’t expected Mo Xian to have also prepared a lullaby.
She wasn’t particularly sleepy, but slowly drifted into dreams accompanied by Mo Xian’s soft, quiet singing.
Mo Xian woke up late, well into the morning.
When she woke up, her head and body ached. She saw the quilt on the floor and was briefly stunned. She noticed Su Tuantuan silently practicing yoga on the balcony.
She quickly sat up.
“I actually fell asleep.”
She rubbed her face. “I’m sorry.”
Su Tuantuan also finished her session, packed up her yoga mat, and was covered in a thin layer of sweat.
“It’s fine. I bought sweet glutinous rice balls yesterday. How about sesame sweet glutinous rice balls for breakfast this morning?”
Mo Xian “Mhm’d.” “I’ll cook.”
“You go wash up.”
Su Tuantuan felt it was inappropriate for a guest to cook.
After breakfast, Mo Xian’s phone kept ringing. It was Ah Huai. Mo Xian sighed after answering the call, not knowing what important matter it was. “I have to get busy. Something came up at the company.”
She didn’t specify what, and it would take too long to explain.
Su Tuantuan handed her a gift. “I didn’t give you anything for New Year’s Day last time. This is a make-up gift, combined with a New Year’s gift.”
Mo Xian looked down at the box, not knowing what was inside. Su Tuantuan smiled slightly. “Open it when you get back.”
She hadn’t really expected Mo Xian to come find her.
The gift was her favorite book and a sleep mask.
Mo Xian was busy and lacked sleep. The eye mask could help with dark circles.
It was Su Tuantuan’s small gesture.
Mo Xian was reluctant to leave.
Su Tuantuan walked her to the door. Mo Xian looked at her several times. Just as Su Tuantuan was about to close the door, Mo Xian put her hand in the door frame.
Su Tuantuan almost trapped her hand.
“Are you crazy?”
Su Tuantuan frowned. Mo Xian pushed the door panel open, hooked her arm around Su Tuantuan’s neck, and initiated a lingering kiss on her lips.
It lasted only a few seconds.
Su Tuantuan hadn’t expected Mo Xian to be so bold, daring to invade her mouth, pressing against her and licking. Su Tuantuan groaned softly, reaching out to push her away, but Mo Xian’s arm held her waist tightly.
A faint citrus scent drifted around. Mo Xian moved her lips away, only to move down to her earlobe.
“Tuantuan.”
Mo Xian panted. “Sorry, I just couldn’t resist. I wanted to kiss you.”
Su Tuantuan closed her eyes, her jaw trembling. Just then, the elevator bell rang.
Mo Xian was reluctant to let go. Su Tuantuan heard the elevator door open and people talking. She dragged Mo Xian inside and slammed the door shut.
