Transmigrated as the Top-Tier Alpha's Secretly Married Ex-Wife - Chapter 39
Chapter 39
Feeling the sudden wave of kindness, Su Tuantuan let down some of her guard.
Her mood was much better, and she wasn’t as tense as before when the makeup artist came to do her styling.
Although she appeared calm and composed on the surface, the profession of an artist is like being naked in public, with hardly any privacy.
Instead of concealing things, it was better to be honest.
However, if she revealed her secret marriage to Mo Xian, not only she but Mo Xian would also suffer a heavy blow.
After her styling was done, Xiao Yu led her into the car. All vehicles leaving the hotel departed from the parking lot; outside vehicles were not allowed to stop, and artists didn’t have to worry about drawing attention outside.
This world was much more rational than the world she came from.
For an actress like her, unless she was holding a fan meet or a birthday event, fans generally wouldn’t come looking for her.
Shining brightly in their respective worlds—that was the meaning of celebrity worship.
“Tuantuan.”
Su Tuantuan bent over to get into the car. Before she could sit down, she heard the voice, paused, looked up, and saw the person in the back seat with their head down and wearing a hat.
The person removed the hat, lifted their chin, and looked at her.
Su Tuantuan was startled. She looked at the driver and Xiao Yu. Xiao Yu winked at her. Su Tuantuan silently moved to the back seat and sat next to Mo Xian.
Xiao Yu had already started playing music in the car.
The music was loud enough that they couldn’t be heard in the front while talking in the back.
Mo Xian handed her corn juice and teamed dumplings.
“I already had breakfast.”
Su Tuantuan straightened her clothes. “Why are you here?”
The season was too hot, and she would be wearing a costume soon, so she wore a small neck fan. Mo Xian put away the corn juice and offered her a bottle of sparkling water instead. “I was worried about you.”
Su Tuantuan didn’t take the water. She sat upright, afraid of messing up her hairstyle, her eyes fixed on the front and out the window, avoiding Mo Xian’s gaze. “Worried about me? What’s there to worry about?”
She gave a faint laugh. “If it’s to thank me for the Weibo post, there’s no need. I took your money and your car. You don’t owe me anything.”
However, while she took the car and the money, she never intended to take the house for free.
She planned to transfer the house payment to Mo Xian once she saved enough money.
If someone was kind, she should bully them less. It wouldn’t sound good if people talked about her later.
But forcing her to discard everything Mo Xian had given her so defiantly—she couldn’t do that yet.
Life was uncertain, and she earned so little money in a year.
She didn’t know how long it would take just to save up the house money.
She would still consider her actual strength when deciding whether or not to show false courage.
Mo Xian remained silent for a moment. “I do want to thank you, but more than that—”
The car suddenly made a sharp turn. Su Tuantuan’s body swerved and Mo Xian instinctively reached out to hold her, and they bumped into each other.
The driver rolled down the window and cursed loudly. “The road is this narrow! Why are you squeezing past and overtaking! You almost hit us!”
The other driver immediately sped away.
Xiao Yu chimed in, “How uncivilized! He’s overtaken us several times and nearly hit us every time.”
“Never mind. Drive slowly. It’s okay if we arrive at the set a little late.”
Su Tuantuan had post-accident anxiety and was thoroughly scared. Now, whenever there was an incident with a car, she felt terrified. The driver quickly agreed. Su Tuantuan felt her back getting warm, like a heater, and only then realized she was leaning against Mo Xian.
She immediately sat up straight and pushed away the hand Mo Xian had placed on her waist. “Thank you.”
Mo Xian’s hand didn’t move, and she pressed closer with a slight force. Su Tuantuan shot her a look, and Mo Xian immediately backed down, stealthily retracting her hand. “You need to be careful. Many people deliberately follow artists’ cars, trying to extort them if there’s an accident.”
“Mhm.”
Su Tuantuan simply felt the atmosphere was too strange. “When I get to the set, I’ll have the driver take you back.”
Mo Xian didn’t move. Su Tuantuan realized her mood was off, turned to look at her, and saw Mo Xian’s face had fallen, her eyes looking quite resentful.
Su Tuantuan raised an eyebrow. “What’s wrong? Do you want me to buy you dinner?”
Mo Xian stared steadily at her, her voice filled with disappointment. “I’m worried about you.”
“I’m fine, though.”
Su Tuantuan laughed and met her gaze. “I’m right here in front of you. I’m perfectly fine. I can eat, drink, sleep, jump around, and earn money acting. I’m doing great.”
Mo Xian didn’t speak, continuing to look at her.
Su Tuantuan felt uneasy under her scrutiny. “Tsk, Mo Xian, are you sick?”
“I used to always think about chasing after accolades, collecting all the so-called awards. Now, looking back, they are just empty titles.”
Mo Xian sighed softly, her eyes lowered, gazing at Su Tuantuan’s fingers. “I know you have concerns because of my status, because of my fans. After this incident, Ah Huai and I discussed it.”
She looked up at Su Tuantuan. “I’m planning to retire behind the scenes and only write songs for others in the future.”
Su Tuantuan looked at her as if she were crazy. “Are you insane?”
Retiring behind the scenes and only writing songs for others meant she would rarely appear in front of the public again.
“What will your fans think? What will the staff who have devoted themselves to your career think?”
Su Tuantuan was very serious. “Mo Xian, I don’t like a woman who prioritizes romance over everything else.”
Mo Xian’s eyes flickered.
Su Tuantuan stated clearly, “I don’t know why you like me, because I honestly don’t think I’m that outstanding—outstanding enough for a top idol to willingly retire behind the scenes to be with me.”
She found it amusing. “Even if you do this, even if I’m touched and decide to be with you, what about later?”
She asked Mo Xian, “Ten or twenty years from now, when you look back, you chose love instead of chasing your dreams during your prime years—”
She took a deep breath. “Mo Xian, you’ll think you’re ridiculous.”
Mo Xian’s eyes were slightly moist, making her dark eyes look even more pitiful. “Then tell me what I should do. What do I need to do for you to feel secure enough to be with me, for you to feel at ease being my partner?”
Su Tuantuan stared deeply at her as well. Their mutual gaze contained something indescribable that made Su Tuantuan want to laugh.
Seeing Mo Xian remain so serious, she thought for a moment, held back her tears, and reached out to pinch Mo Xian’s face.
Mo Xian was bare-faced and was momentarily surprised by the pinch. Su Tuantuan squeezed her cheek and spoke in an exceptionally gentle tone. “You don’t need to do anything.”
She smiled. “You sing well, you dance well. Continue to be the queen of your stage. I don’t need you to humble yourself or sacrifice anything for me.”
She said earnestly, “When the day comes that we meet at the peak, even if you don’t come to me, I will walk toward you.”
Mo Xian was slightly excited, her cheeks flushed, and the back of her neck was terribly hot. Su Tuantuan didn’t pinch her face anymore but traced her finger to Mo Xian’s chin, leaned in, and placed an extremely light kiss on her chin.
After the kiss, she rubbed her finger, wiping away the lipstick stain.
The car slowly stopped. Xiao Yu called from the front, “Sister Tuantuan, we’re here!”
Su Tuantuan looked at Mo Xian, got up to leave the car, but Mo Xian was staring at her blankly, still holding her chin.
Before getting out, Su Tuantuan turned back again.
Mo Xian looked at her expectantly.
Su Tuantuan took the sparkling water Mo Xian had prepared earlier. “Thanks.”
Su Tuantuan juggled the sparkling water, didn’t look at her again, and got out of the car with a composed expression.
Mo Xian was curled up in the car, biting her fist, excited and thrilled. She had never been so happy.
Xiao Yu’s voice sounded outside the car door. “Goddess Xian, are you heading back now?”
Mo Xian recovered some of her composure, slowly put down her hand, but her face still beamed with happiness.
Xiao Yu opened the car door and handed Mo Xian a jar of candy. “Sister Tuantuan asked me to give this to you.”
Mo Xian accepted the candy and thanked her. Xiao Yu had already gotten out to attend to Su Tuantuan.
Mo Xian opened the plastic jar and saw it was full of peach-flavored lollipops. She happily took one out, wanting to unwrap it, but then thought it was from Tuantuan, and eating one meant one less. She sniffed the peach scent on the wrapper, put the lollipop back, sealed the lid tightly, and hugged the jar, smiling contentedly.
Her phone rang.
Su Tuantuan: “Xiao Yu says you’re sitting in the car grinning like an idiot.”
Su Tuantuan: “What’s so funny.”
Reading this message made Mo Xian even happier. She was afraid Tuantuan would distance herself because of the Weibo incident. She couldn’t buy a plane ticket late at night, so she secretly hired a taxi to the film city.
Ah Huai didn’t even know what she was doing.
She was just afraid that if she didn’t come this time, Tuantuan would fly away like a butterfly, never to come close to her again.
She wanted to seize this opportunity.
Mo Xian hugged the lollipop jar. Although her eyes were so tired they could barely stay open, her heart felt like the sparkling water—bubbly and light.
So, Tuantuan likes her too, right?
Tuantuan said they would meet at the peak, and by then, Tuantuan would walk toward her without her having to search.
But she didn’t want Tuantuan to walk over.
She wanted to run to find Tuantuan.
At the fastest speed, to make Tuantuan her lover.
She could wait.
She was willing to wait.
“Su Tuantuan!”
Meng Han was furious. “In this scene, Ruoyi is being bullied, and then she feels resentful and determined to establish herself in the frontier town. Why are you smiling!”
Su Tuantuan rubbed her face. “Was I smiling?”
He Xiyao nodded. “You were smiling.”
He Xiyao, maintaining her usual serious face, added, “It didn’t look like she was being bullied; it looked like she was bullying someone else.”
“Cough—”
Su Tuantuan rubbed her face. “Director Meng, um, my face was cramping. I wasn’t smiling. I just couldn’t control it for a moment. I’ll do it again.”
Meng Han’s face was dark, looking as if she wanted to kill her.
“How many times have you been distracted this morning, Su Tuantuan? Did you win the lottery or something? Tell us what you’re so happy about so everyone can have a laugh, huh?”
Meng Han was exasperated. The normal Su Tuantuan would absolutely not act like this.
Su Tuantuan took a deep breath, knowing she was being unprofessional. She shook her head, thoroughly clearing the image of Mo Xian, and then returned to normal. The makeup artist came over to touch up her makeup.
After the touch-up, Su Tuantuan smiled at Meng Han. “I’m ready, Director Meng.”
Meng Han chugged a large amount of wolfberry and chrysanthemum tea, glared at her, and mouthed silently, Concentrate!
Su Tuantuan quickly nodded and waited quietly.
Sigh.
See? I told you that beauty distracts from business.
From now on, she needed to keep as far away from Mo Xian as possible during work hours.
