Transmigrated as the Short-Lived White Moonlight, I Ended Up Happily Ever After With the Female Lead - Chapter 29
This was the third time Song Yi had carefully studied Ji Yan’an’s sleeping face. Unlike the previous two times, Ji Yan’an’s complexion was poor this time; even her lips were pale. It was truly a pitiful sight.
“Sister… I am Ji Yan’an’s… sister?” Song Yi repeatedly contemplated the doctor’s words, and surprisingly, she quite liked the title “sister.”
Perhaps she spoke too loudly, as Ji Yan’an slightly opened her eyes and immediately saw this beautiful woman staring blankly at her bedside, muttering something… sister?
“Sister~” Ji Yan’an simply opened her mouth and called out sweetly, which startled Song Yi.
Song Yi hurriedly stood up. Seeing Ji Yan’an awake, she couldn’t hide her joy and cautiously asked, “Is there anything uncomfortable?”
This question instantly made Ji Yan’an recall the time when Ji Yongning was concerned about her. Both of them were inept at showing care, yet they could only clumsily ask the question that worried them the most.
“Sister…” Ji Yan’an called out again, “I’m fine. I don’t know what happened yesterday, I just fainted. Maybe I was scared…”
Ji Yan’an felt a surge of embarrassment remembering how she had lost consciousness mid-sentence and collapsed into Song Yi’s arms last night. She smiled directly at Song Yi, hoping to mask the awkwardness.
Song Yi didn’t find anything awkward about it, but the repeated “sister” calls made her feel a little unnatural, and even her cheeks began to flush slightly.
“It’s the doctor at the clinic who thought I was your sister, that’s why…”
“You are indeed older than me! I don’t care, you are my sister!” Ji Yan’an caught sight of Song Yi’s cool cheeks starting to turn red, which sparked an impulse in her to tease Song Yi.
Song Yi saw that Ji Yan’an was teasing her and decided not to humor her, turning and walking out, leaving Ji Yan’an only with a view of her back.
Ji Yan’an was still curled up in bed, hugging a pillow and feeling wronged, but Song Yi had already gone downstairs to inquire about breakfast. Since Ji Yan’an had suffered from food stagnation before, she couldn’t have overly greasy meat buns. Song Yi only bought a few plates of vegetable-filled buns and two bowls of porridge before returning to the room.
As she reached the door of the room, Song Yi was about to enter but was stopped by one of her subordinates stationed outside. The subordinate knew he shouldn’t stop her, but he had to: “Miss! Your shoulder wound needs changing. Last night…”
The subordinate was about to mention her use of internal energy but was silenced by a glare from Song Yi. He pitifully handed the medicine bottle to Song Yi.
Song Yi took the medicine bottle and casually tucked it into her sleeve. Carrying the breakfast tray, she pushed the door open and entered, not sparing the subordinate another glance.
The subordinate watched Song Yi, whose expression instantly softened as she stepped inside, feeling a mixture of grievance. He helped close the door for her, looking like an old father sending his daughter off to be married, which made everyone else frantically suppress their laughter.
Song Yi was completely unaware of what was happening outside. As soon as she entered the room, she saw Ji Yan’an still hugging a pillow, looking at her with a resentful gaze, as if she had somehow wronged her.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Song Yi placed the breakfast tray on the round table in the room, then turned to face Ji Yan’an.
“Nothing. You have a shoulder injury? Did you get it last night? And… how did you get out?” Ji Yan’an had been pondering this herself. After the emotions of gratitude and embarrassment subsided, her intelligence finally returned. She posed her questions one by one, waiting for Song Yi’s answers.
Seeing that she finally asked, Song Yi decided not to conceal the truth. While slowly taking the medicine bottle from her sleeve, she said, “Ji Tong’an came to find me and incidentally stabbed my shoulder with a hairpin. I learned from her that bandits were rampant, and I was worried about you, so I ran out.”
This whole heart-stopping experience was recounted so simply by Song Yi that Ji Yan’an was dumbfounded just listening to it, yet the person speaking was still completely calm and composed.
“Hurry up and apply the medicine!” Ji Yan’an truly could not understand Ji Tong’an. She had clearly achieved her conspiracy, so why would she still look for trouble with Song Yi? Could it be… that she wanted to kill Song Yi before she could bring the Old Madam back?
Ji Yan’an looked at the spot on Song Yi’s left shoulder that was already stained with blood and couldn’t bear to see it. Her inner fury surged, and her hatred for Ji Tong’an intensified. They could have kept to their own business, but Ji Tong’an had to challenge her bottom line every single time. This accusation, combined with what Ji Huai said about Ji Yongning investigating her drowning incident, added up—one thing after another—it was more than enough trouble for Ji Tong’an!
Ji Yan’an angrily threw the pillow away. Seeing Song Yi clumsily lifting her clothes to apply the medicine herself, Ji Yan’an quickly got up to help her. Her eyes, however, couldn’t help but be drawn to that slender, graceful neck, and she froze again.
“What’s wrong?” Sensing the person behind her stop moving, Song Yi turned her head to ask, only to find that Ji Yan’an’s nose was…
“You’re bleeding from the nose again…” Song Yi found it quite amusing. She didn’t care about her own injury anymore and first took a handkerchief to wipe Ji Yan’an’s nose. Just like the day Ji Yan’an peeped at her bathing, Ji Yan’an couldn’t control her nosebleed again.
“Why are you bleeding from the nose all of a sudden? It happened before too. Is there something wrong with your body?” Song Yi didn’t think about anything else. In her eyes, bleeding meant the body was unwell.
Ji Yan’an frantically shook her head, too embarrassed to let Song Yi wipe it for her anymore. She took the handkerchief and wiped it herself in a messy fashion, then quickly changed the subject: “I’ll apply the medicine for you!”
Song Yi was confusedly pushed to sit on the bed. Ji Yan’an pulled down the clothing on her left shoulder, exposing only that one shoulder. As Ji Yan’an applied the medicine, the hand supporting the shoulder occasionally brushed against Song Yi’s beautiful collarbone. Her whole hand felt like it had been electrocuted and she dared not move it carelessly, but the delicate texture made Ji Yan’an reluctant to take her hand away.
“Have you felt enough?” Song Yi’s lips curled into a slight smile. Ji Yan’an’s little hand was restlessly touching the area in front of her collarbone, and her own throat felt slightly dry, with an indescribable heat in her chest.
Upon hearing this, Ji Yan’an instantly withdrew her hand, almost dropping the medicine bottle in fright. Her face was bright red, and she didn’t dare to look up at Song Yi.
“You pervert! Touching a woman’s collarbone!” Ji Yan’an secretly scolded herself, but she truly had an “endless aftertaste” of Song Yi’s smooth skin.
Song Yi did not continue to say anything. She silently took the medicine bottle back from Ji Yan’an’s hand and put it away. Her deep-set eyes looked at Ji Yan’an, and after a long while, she took the initiative to break the silence: “Why are we applying medicine every day recently? Hmm?”
The upturned tone at the end made Ji Yan’an’s heart tremble. She blinked and looked up, but realizing her cheeks were flushed, she immediately lowered her head again: “Probably, probably because of the retrograde Mercury! Sister… when you came to save me, I really almost gave up struggling…”
Song Yi really wanted to ask what retrograde Mercury meant, but seeing the person in front of her soften her tone, her heart softened as well. Resisting the urge to pull Ji Yan’an into her arms, she simply ruffled Ji Yan’an’s head again, feeling the soft texture of her hair, and slowly said, “I won’t let you be in danger. I arrived too late this time. Next time… no, there won’t be a next time.”
Song Yi never easily made promises to anyone, yet she told Ji Yan’an that she would not let Ji Yan’an fall into such danger again.
