Transmigrated as the Scumbag Alpha’s Gorgeous Wife Who Keeps Trying to Seduce Me - Chapter 23.1
The sound of water trickled from the bathroom. It seemed that Shen Zhixi was still showering and had not come out yet.
After finishing her own shower, Chi Lengzhao quickly made her bed on the sofa, then snuggled under the covers and started scrolling on her phone.
Xue Pantao sent her a message, asking her to go to the pet store tomorrow to pick out a cat. She planned to buy a Garfield cat and insisted that Chi Lengzhao go with her.
Chi Lengzhao replied, “Let’s wait until the weekend. I have work tomorrow. Shouldn’t I throw myself into my new job with enthusiasm?”
Xue Pantao answered, “What?! You’re really going to work?”
“Mhm. I am, after all, President Chi.”
A little while later, Shen Zhixi came out of the bathroom. When she saw someone sitting on the sofa, she instinctively tightened her bathrobe around herself.
She had spent quite a bit of time chatting with Shao Qiuqiu earlier today.
Shao Qiuqiu was cheerful, full of laughter and talk. She had been gossiping nonstop about Shen Zhixi and Chi Lengzhao’s life after marriage, asking all kinds of bold and intimate questions.
“What does her pheromone smell like? Was she gentle when she marked you? Did she get so worked up she bit your gland and made it bleed? How many times a night?”
Shen Zhixi couldn’t describe how she felt. On one hand, she was embarrassed by such private questions. On the other, she was trying not to remember the pain and humiliation she had experienced in her previous life when Chi Lengzhao had forcibly marked her.
Noticing that Shen Zhixi seemed either uninterested or too shy to respond, Shao Qiuqiu finally picked up on the discomfort and changed the subject. She started talking about the small farm she had recently bought. She had been managing it herself, growing wheat, raising sheep, and training a border collie. She sounded thrilled.
When she spoke about these things, her excitement grew. Her words flowed endlessly.
This kind of life had always been something Shen Zhixi dreamed about.
As a child, she often imagined herself wearing a cute little hat, holding a lamb in her arms, and sitting in a field full of blooming flowers. In the distance, sheep would graze peacefully on the grass.
Even after growing up, she still longed for that kind of life. Only now, she pictured someone else by her side. The A she loved.
She would hold the lamb and look at her with joy. Her A would have a charming smile, warm and pure under the sunlight, with beautiful blue eyes like the sea. She would gently lift Shen Zhixi’s chin and press a soft kiss on her lips.
What a dreamy and romantic fantasy that was.
Shen Zhixi smiled faintly, slowly returning from her daydream and ending her conversation with Shao Qiuqiu.
While Shen Zhixi dried her hair, Chi Lengzhao remained on the sofa, still scrolling on her phone.
She wasn’t reading the news or doing any research. For once, she was simply relaxing and watching short videos.
One video was behind-the-scenes footage from the drama As the World Sings.
In the clip, Shen Zhixi was getting her makeup done when she suddenly noticed the camera behind her. She looked surprised and blushed, then smiled and greeted the camera with a wave.
Another scene showed her in a white costume, suspended by wires. A wind machine blew her hair and clothes to create the effect of flowing movement.
The video also had funny subtitles, which made Chi Lengzhao laugh. But as she watched, she started to feel something else.
She glanced at Shen Zhixi, who was drying her hair. The hum of the hairdryer filled the room. Her slender back and graceful figure stood out. Her skin looked fresh and radiant, like a lotus blooming from clear water.
After drying her hair, Shen Zhixi changed into a nightgown, lifted the covers, and lay down on the bed. She checked the time. It was 11:20 p.m.
“Sorry I’m a little late today.”
“It’s fine. I don’t really mind whether I sleep early or late,” Chi Lengzhao said casually. “Why did you stop acting? If you had continued, maybe you’d have become the next Zhao Siyi. No, that’s not right. There’s only one Zhao Siyi, and there’s only one Shen Zhixi. I mean, you could have been just as successful.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Chi Lengzhao noticed Shen Zhixi looking at her with a strange expression.
Chi Lengzhao paused.
Did she accidentally touch on a sensitive subject?
Shen Zhixi wasn’t sure what to think. Was Chi Lengzhao testing her, trying to see if she had truly given up on acting?
Then she remembered Chi Lengzhao’s words: “Try looking at me with fresh eyes.”
So she played it cool and asked casually, “Do you want me to act again?”
“That depends on what you want. If you love acting, of course you should continue. Life is short. You should do what makes you happy. Otherwise, it would be too miserable.”
Chi Lengzhao patted her pillow, pulled up her blanket, and lay down. Then she added, “But don’t misunderstand. I’m not saying you have to keep acting. If you don’t like the entertainment industry, you can leave it behind. After all, you’re a daughter of the Shen family. Whether it’s the Shen family or the Chi family, you can live with dignity. You can be a respected young madam without any worry.”
Shen Zhixi’s eyes trembled. She was genuinely surprised. Chi Lengzhao didn’t object to her acting?
She quietly asked, “You really don’t mind me continuing to act?”
Chi Lengzhao turned off the lamp next to the sofa. “Of course not. As long as that’s what you want to do.”
Then, as if remembering something, she quickly added, “But preferably, no intimate scenes. You’re now the young madam of the Chi family. I’m just afraid that, well, your father-in-law might not be pleased to see that.”
Shen Zhixi raised her eyebrows slightly and smiled. Was it really the father-in-law who would be unhappy, or was it you?
Of course, she didn’t ask that out loud.
“I forgot to mention. Starting tomorrow, I’ll be working at Chisheng. Feel free to do whatever you like at home. If anything happens, just call me.”
It had to be said, Chi Lengzhao seemed to be sleeping better than ever. She mumbled those words in a daze, then went completely silent.
Soon, the steady sound of her breathing came from the sofa.
Shen Zhixi turned off the lights, but she couldn’t fall asleep.
Chi Lengzhao was really going to work at the company?
She had actually agreed to let her act again?
It took Shen Zhixi a long time to calm down from the shock.
She turned to face the sofa.
Maybe she really should start looking at Chi Lengzhao differently.
The headquarters of Chisheng Group was located in the busiest part of the seaside city’s central business district.
The company was involved in a wide range of industries, including cultural tourism, internet services, automobile manufacturing, logistics, animal husbandry, and most importantly, real estate.
When Miss Chi showed up at headquarters right at nine in the morning, everyone in the company was stunned.
The eldest Miss Chi, known for being idle and claiming headaches at the mere mention of work, had actually arrived on time.
Her first action on the job was to call a meeting with all the directors of the animal husbandry division.
In her email, she wrote, “The Monday company meeting is a long-standing tradition at Chisheng. We need to uphold that tradition and continue moving forward. As your direct reporting officer, I’m giving you thirty minutes to prepare. Please gather in Meeting Room 1 on the seventeenth floor. I look forward to your presentations.”
The directors, who had practically been left to manage themselves for the past three years, were stunned into silence.
After sending the email, Chi Lengzhao sat in her spacious, bright, and comfortable vice president’s office, which featured floor-to-ceiling windows with a view of half the city.
She expected at least one or two arrogant directors to challenge her authority, thinking she was just a spoiled heiress.
Instead, what she got was a phone call from her father, Chi Jintang.
“Lengzhao, what made you come to the office today?”
Even though Chi Jintang wasn’t physically at the company, there was nothing that went on that escaped his notice.
Chi Lengzhao picked up her prepared excuse. “Dad, I went to visit the Shen family with Shen Zhixi yesterday. Shen Jichang seemed very pleased with me. I could tell he’s satisfied with the marriage and might even want to hand over the Meixi brand to me. But I haven’t achieved anything yet. He seems unsure about my abilities. I thought I should come in and start working. At the very least, I should look like a proper vice president.”
Chi Jintang was surprised. He hadn’t expected his daughter, who had always seemed useless, to impress her father-in-law like that. It seemed she had no business skills, but when it came to winning a woman’s heart, she certainly had a talent.
If Shen Jichang really was considering giving Meixi to Chi Lengzhao, then that was a golden opportunity.
“What’s your plan?” he asked.
“I plan to start by taking charge of the animal husbandry division. The other businesses are too complex for me. My brother is already handling them well.”
Animal husbandry didn’t bring in much profit for Chisheng. It wasn’t like the internet division, logistics, or car manufacturing. Those were the real moneymakers.
So giving her that department wouldn’t raise any objections.
As expected, Chi Jintang agreed without hesitation. “That’s right. Do your best. Don’t let your father-in-law down.”
“Got it, Dad. I’m a daughter of the Chi family. I won’t let you down.”
As soon as she hung up, someone opened the office door.
Her secretary walked in wearing bright red lipstick and high heels. She wore a tight leopard-print outfit, the short skirt barely covering her curvy figure.
Chi Lengzhao frowned. “Did no one tell you to knock before entering?”
The secretary, named Lian Meiwen, didn’t stop. Instead, she walked in with a flirtatious sway, then let out a soft sound and sat right on Chi Lengzhao’s lap.
“Why knock? Do I really need to knock before coming in?”
Chi Lengzhao’s brow tightened. “Get off.”
Lian Meiwen didn’t move. Instead, she wrapped her arms around Chi Lengzhao’s neck and draped herself over her. “Why are you being so cold? Doesn’t this leopard print look good? I wore it just for you.”
“I’ll say it one more time. Get off.” Chi Lengzhao’s voice was cold enough to freeze the air.
It was obvious now that the original Chi Lengzhao had been far from clean with this seductive secretary.
She had known the original version was reckless, but she didn’t expect her to even go after her own employees.
“Baby, what’s wrong? It’s just a marriage. It doesn’t have to get in the way of our fun.” Lian Meiwen brushed her hair aside, revealing the gland at the back of her neck. She bit her lip gently, her eyes filled with desire. “It’s been days. I’ve been craving your bite.”
Chi Lengzhao said nothing.
When Lian Meiwen leaned in, offering her neck, Chi Lengzhao pushed her away and stood up.
Lian Meiwen froze, stunned.
“I’m married now. Whatever we had in the past is over.” Her voice was calm and heartless, as if she had completely forgotten everything they once shared.
Lian Meiwen stared at her in disbelief. Then she quickly recovered, flipping her hair with a smile full of charm. “So, President Chi doesn’t want to play with me anymore. Planning to go home and be a loyal, loving A?”
“When you’re married, you should stay loyal to your partner. That’s how it should be.”
Lian Meiwen looked like she had heard a joke. She burst out laughing, her body trembling. “I never thought I’d hear the word ‘loyal’ come out of your mouth. That’s hilarious.”
Chi Lengzhao looked at her coldly. “Starting tomorrow, you don’t need to come to work. Name your price.”
Lian Meiwen raised an eyebrow. “You’re serious?”
“Of course. We both know this wasn’t about love. Whatever happened before, I’ll compensate you.”
“Alright. Since you’re being so straightforward, give me ten million and I’ll leave. Clean and simple.”
“Ten million?”
“Yeah. I found a place I like. We’ve been involved, so you wouldn’t just leave me out in the cold with nowhere to live, right?”
Chi Lengzhao suddenly thought of the ending in the book. The original version of her really did end up homeless, with nowhere to go and no shelter from the elements.
“Fine. Ten million it is.”
She told herself the money was a good deed. A little bit of charity for her own conscience.
“Then call your bank assistant,” Lian Meiwen said with a cheerful smile, pulling out her bank card. “Transfer it to this card. It’s a new one. I’m using it to buy the house.”
Chi Lengzhao didn’t say anything.
After receiving the money, Lian Meiwen suddenly leaned in and kissed her on the cheek.
“Baby, I really love you today. Thanks a lot.”
Chi Lengzhao watched her sway her hips as she left the office. She grabbed a tissue and wiped the lipstick off her face, looking completely disgusted.
At her first meeting, Chi Lengzhao treated the four directors under the livestock division fairly politely. She asked them to introduce themselves, then each gave a report on the last fiscal year’s performance.
The directors exchanged confused looks. Introductions again? This was the sixth time. When would Vice President Chi finally remember who they were?
After the meeting, she called in the HR director.
“Find me an assistant within a week. Gender doesn’t matter. ABO doesn’t matter. Fresh graduates are fine too.”
When the staff heard about it, rumors spread quickly. Some thought Chi Lengzhao must have grown tired of her glamorous secretary, Lian Meiwen, and was now looking for a new attractive omega.
Soon, everyone at the company noticed something even stranger. Since her marriage, Vice President Chi had changed. She now showed up at work every day, always on time, often arriving thirty minutes early.
No one could get away with sloppiness anymore. One manager tried to submit a fake report, and she exposed him on the spot. He was fired immediately. The director above him had his quarterly bonus canceled. She also used the moment to call a meeting for all mid- and senior-level staff in the livestock division.
Wearing a formal business suit, Chi Lengzhao stood in front of the room, her face serious.
“When something goes wrong, don’t think pushing all the blame on your subordinates is enough. This time, I only cut bonuses. Next time, you won’t be so lucky. Chisheng’s livestock business must move toward modern, tech-driven operations. Our management style must also be modern and innovative. I want people who are capable and efficient. People who have goals and ambition.”
The managers all felt a chill down their backs. Was this new version of Vice President Chi planning to rule with an iron fist?
The HR director was efficient. Within a week, she had shortlisted over ten candidates and presented four of them for final interviews.
Ten minutes into the interviews, Chi Lengzhao chose one. It was a beta woman, not particularly eye-catching, but capable and reliable.
When the HR director later asked why she picked that one, Chi Lengzhao answered, “She looks like someone who’s never been in a relationship. Quiet. Honest.”
In her office, Chi Lengzhao carefully studied the company’s financial reports. The company didn’t have much spare cash. Around 1.4 billion yuan.
She had already reviewed Meixi’s debts. To avoid bankruptcy or a forced sale of assets, they needed at least 2 billion just to pay off the most urgent part.
The first step was clear. She had to raise money for Meixi.
But she couldn’t touch Chisheng’s cash flow. If she did, her father, Chi Jintang, would notice immediately. That old fox wasn’t easy to fool. If he started doubting her, it would be a huge problem.
When she transferred the 10 million to Lian Meiwen, she had her bank assistant check her personal accounts. Between cash and investments, she only had a little over 200 million yuan in her name.
Chi Lengzhao sighed. Compared to the version of herself from her previous world, she was practically broke.
There was no way she could raise 2 billion all at once. But maybe she could manage the 500 million due next month.
If she borrowed some from friends, it might work.
On Saturday, Chi Lengzhao kept her promise to Xue Pantao and went with her to the pet store to pick out a cat.
When Hua Zi heard where she was going, she laughed.
“It’s a shame the young lady isn’t here. Miss Chi, you could’ve brought her with you. She loves cats and dogs. She even studied animal care.”
