- Chapter 41 - A Temporary Separation
When Gu Xiaoling heard this, she practically jumped in frustration.
“How shameless can she be?! How dare she say I have a crush on her? Absolutely disgraceful. Thick-skinned—no, double-thick-skinned!”
She kept cursing at Qi Siyu non-stop.
Despite spending several days with her, Gu Xiaoling’s opinion of Qi Siyu had only slightly improved. She had gone from being a completely wicked villain to just a sneaky troublemaker.
Still detestable either way!
Gu Qing’s expression softened. She stood up from the wheelchair—every window in the house was covered with heavy curtains, so there was no need to pretend to be injured anymore.
“Help me pack, will you?”
“Coming!” Gu Xiaoling responded, and the two got to work.
Meanwhile, Qi Siyu buried her face in a pillow in the guest room, not wanting to face the world.
Time passed slowly, and midnight arrived.
It was time to renew the temporary mark on Gu Qing.
One thing Qi Siyu could still be proud of was that even in her “foolish” state, she hadn’t forgotten the gland repair serum. Last night, she’d injected herself before going to Gu Qing.
Just thinking about that made her recall last night’s mortifying behavior.
Why? Why?!
Why couldn’t something like that just be forgotten?
Qi Siyu’s face visibly flushed, and she covered her eyes in embarrassment.
All the nuzzling, clinging, hugging, and touching—there was no other word for it besides harassment.
She didn’t even want to imagine how Gu Qing saw her now.
But reality had to be faced. Qi Siyu injected the gland repair serum—this would be the final dose.
Tomorrow morning, she was flying out of here for good!

“The door’s open.”
Gu Qing’s light was still on. She hadn’t gone to sleep yet.
Qi Siyu glanced at the clock hanging beside the bed. It was already 12:30.
“You’re still up?”
Gu Qing had always been strict with her routine. Sometimes she seemed more like a machine than a person. Her strong self-discipline was practically her signature trait.
“Reading a script—and waiting for you,” Gu Qing said flatly.
“Script? What script?” Qi Siyu walked over to check the cover. The bold title read Which Me Do You Love?
She froze, as if struck by lightning.
Crap. Why is this thing here?
This was one of the trashy web dramas brokered by her agent Wang Fang. The storyline was awful, the characters ridiculously exaggerated, and the entire crew felt like an amateur production. Though it wasn’t mentioned explicitly in the original novel, Qi Siyu had always suspected this drama was just a money-laundering scheme. Casting Gu Qing was likely just a way to inflate production expenses and make it look like the producers were “trying.”
Wang Fang had even signed Gu Qing on for three dramas from the same sketchy production company.
What shocked Qi Siyu most was that—according to the original story—this web series wasn’t supposed to begin filming until after the variety show Carefree Vacation had wrapped up and Gu Qing’s reputation had hit rock bottom.
“Meng Changyao said she messaged you, but you didn’t reply,” Gu Qing reminded her as she saw Qi Siyu frozen in place.
“Oh, right. I’ve had too many unread messages. I’ll check now,” she replied, instinctively patting her pockets—only to realize she had changed into sleepwear and didn’t bring her phone.
“Left it in my other clothes. I’ll check later.”
“Mm. Come here.”
Gu Qing swept her long hair aside, exposing her fair, delicate neck.
She was sitting at the vanity in a flowing white camisole dress. In the mirror, her shoulders and collarbones glowed pale and fragile.
Qi Siyu swallowed hard. After all these markings, this was the first time not done on the bed.
“Alright,” she said, stepping forward.
But the moment she saw her own reflection in the mirror—her eyes were far from innocent.
Thank God Gu Qing had her head lowered and couldn’t see.
Without any prelude, Qi Siyu moved in quickly, her canines pressing gently into Gu Qing’s gland. She injected the pheromones with practiced speed and stepped back immediately, putting distance between them.
She acted with commendable restraint and decorum.
But Gu Qing’s mind was still replaying the scenes from last night—being pinned down by Qi Siyu, entirely at her mercy… and yet not feeling a shred of disgust.
If anything, there had been a hint of enjoyment.
“You’re not feeling unwell, are you? I’ll head back now,” Qi Siyu said, sensing the awkwardness hanging in the air. She had originally intended to stick around and maybe get in a few bonus lottery chances—but forget it. If she stayed in the same room with Gu Qing any longer, she might suffocate.
Gu Qing… was the biggest victim in her humiliating spiral of social death.
Qi Siyu snuck a glance at the mirror, hoping to observe Gu Qing’s reaction—only to find Gu Qing staring right back at her through the reflection.
“…Mm, go ahead.” Gu Qing nodded. She didn’t ask why Qi Siyu wasn’t sleeping here. The answer was obvious.
Qi Siyu, failing to read anything from her face, made a quick retreat.
The door closed softly behind her.
After she left, Gu Qing sat a while longer at the vanity—not to read the script, but to stare at her own reflection.
Her emotions were hard to read. Even she was beginning to struggle to understand her own heart.
Her gaze slowly turned cold again. Once her usual icy composure had returned, Gu Qing finally got into bed and turned off the light.
That night, neither of them slept well.
Qi Siyu got up early to pack her suitcase. The previous night, Gu Xiaoling had brought over all the things Qi Siyu had bought during the show. Among them, three plush toys stood out conspicuously.
There was the lemon-shaped plushie that Gu Qing had bought on her own initiative, the ragdoll cat plushie Qi Siyu had begged for, and a baguette plushie.
The ragdoll cat was pure white and fluffy, with heterochromatic eyes—one smoky gray and one sky blue. Qi Siyu had been playing on her phone when she first saw it, but the moment her eyes landed on that smoky gray eye, she couldn’t look away. It reminded her of Gu Qing’s eyes, and she just had to have it.
As for the baguette plushie, it was that dumb girl who insisted on buying it because she didn’t want the cat to starve. Among all the plushies, only this one was “food.”
Recalling that scene, Qi Siyu couldn’t help but feel exasperated. Buying food for a plush cat was already ridiculous—but a baguette?
Was she trying to break the cat’s teeth?
Qi Siyu picked up the ragdoll cat plushie and examined it. The designer had given it a mouth but no teeth.
So dumb. That baguette was a completely useless purchase!
After some hesitation, she tossed all three plushies into her suitcase. They ended up taking up more than half the space.
As for clothes—she could just buy more when she got there. She had money, after all. Qi Siyu also packed her bath-time comfort kit.
The music box could import songs. What if she couldn’t fall asleep in a new place? A little sleep-inducing music would help.
So, her suitcase was now filled with all these odd items.
Qi Siyu looked at the suitcase standing before her and couldn’t help but cover her face. She seriously suspected she had been influenced by that dumb girl.
After such an intense heat period, having some lingering side effects was probably normal, right?
“System, I want to draw a reward. Specify one that lets me temporarily leave Gu Qing.” Qi Siyu said.
“Acknowledged. Currently, the reward pool contains Temporary Leave Cards for 3, 5, and 7 days. You are guaranteed to draw one, but the duration is random.” the system replied.
“Alright,” Qi Siyu thought. With her luck, it was probably going to be the shortest—3 days.
Not too long, not too short. Just right. If she stayed away too long, the fragile little position she’d just gained in Gu Qing’s heart might slip away again.
But when the result came out, the Temporary Leave Card said 7 days.
Qi Siyu: “…”
Wanting something and getting the opposite—was this the pinnacle of bad luck?
“System, how does this Temporary Leave Card work? Can it be like a game subscription—only counting time when I’m actually away?” she asked. A full week away from Gu Qing felt a little unrealistic.
“Yes. The timer starts only when your distance from Gu Qing exceeds the limit. When you return within range, the countdown pauses. Time is tracked by the minute, rounded up.” the system explained.
Qi Siyu beamed. Finally, some decent luck!
As for the other rewards, besides the usual seven packets of moist wipes and a bottle of hair growth pills, there was also a bottle of perfume.
A customizable one, at that.
Qi Siyu licked her lips, hesitated for a second, and said, “System, I want the scent to be red wine and chocolate.”
She wasn’t sure whether it was the smell of the cookies she missed… or Gu Qing’s pheromones.
She really couldn’t figure out her own heart.
After packing everything, Qi Siyu carried her suitcase out of the bedroom.
She carried it instead of dragging it—although the apartment had great sound insulation, she still didn’t want to wake Gu Qing.
She moved the suitcase to the entryway, then walked over to Gu Xiaoling’s door and rang the bell.
The doorbell could only be heard inside the apartment. Out of spite, Qi Siyu pressed it repeatedly.
Soon, Gu Xiaoling appeared with a messy bird’s-nest of hair, squinting in confusion. “What is it?”
“I’m going on a business trip for seven days. Take care of Gu Qing,” Qi Siyu instructed.
Gu Xiaoling rolled her eyes. “You don’t have to tell me—that’s my sister!”
Then she shut the door and went back to bed.
…Wait. Suddenly, Gu Xiaoling shot up and glanced at the time.
How hateful! She’d woken her up at 5 a.m. just to say something that dumb?
She really was a no-good scoundrel!
Back at the door, Qi Siyu stared blankly for a moment, then dragged her suitcase and left.
Destination: Jiang City.
Her flight was at 8:30. It was still early, and she arrived at the airport in half an hour.
She waited in the VIP lounge.
At 7 a.m., Gu Qing sent her a message, asking her to contact the hospital herself to reschedule her physical exam.
Qi Siyu smacked her forehead. She’d completely forgotten Gu Qing had booked a medical exam for her that morning.
She quickly replied with a “Got it.”
Then she stared at the chat window, mind wandering. She wondered—would Gu Qing message her again to ask where she was going? What kind of trip this was? What time her flight was? Whether she had a return ticket yet?
Whenever she went on a trip before, her parents would ask those things over and over.
Time ticked by, but the chat window stayed quiet.
Qi Siyu sighed. So this is what it means to be the heroine of the original novel. The thing she admired most about Gu Qing was her unwavering heart, her dedication to her dreams, and her ability to stay unaffected by others.
But still… she couldn’t help feeling a little disappointed.
With a pout, Qi Siyu poked Gu Qing’s profile picture a few times. It was a still from a drama—a very youthful photo taken when Gu Qing was just sixteen and still doing background roles. The beginning of her dream.
Qi Siyu poked it three times before stopping. And that, of course, triggered three “Poke” messages in the chat.
Qi Siyu: ???
Gu Qing’s profile suddenly showed the word recalled. Qi Siyu, now in a panic, immediately tapped the message.
So her pokes had now turned into message recalls.
Which made things even more confusing.
Ahhhhh! What kind of messed-up function was this?! Why did it even notify the other person when you recalled a message? Qi Siyu was nearly in tears.
A moment later, Gu Qing replied with a single: “?”
Qi Siyu typed and deleted repeatedly, and finally replied with a simple:
[Sorry, my phone accidentally got tapped while in my pocket.]
[No problem. Safe travels.]
Qi Siyu stared at the words “safe travels”, a smile slowly curling on her lips.
Hehehe… Safety is the greatest blessing.
She felt happy again.
But happy moments are always fleeting. Qi Siyu had no choice but to put away her phone and board the plane, starting her journey to Jiang City.
The main reason for this trip was to calm down and escape the secondhand embarrassment she’d brought upon herself.
The secondary goal was to visit a company under the names of Gu Qing’s biological parents. Previously, Qi Siyu had sent emails explaining Gu Qing’s situation—she used every company and personal email address she could find—but none had received a response after all this time.
Unfortunately, Gu Qing’s birth parents had settled abroad over a decade ago, and there was no way to get in touch with them through domestic contacts.
Someone at their Jiang City branch must be able to reach the Gu family, so Qi Siyu decided to make a personal visit.
And conveniently, Hengdian World Studios was also located in Jiang City. She could take a look at the drama production crews there while she was at it.
Qi Siyu was hoping to revise the scripts Gu Qing had accepted. She wanted to hire a skilled screenwriter to improve them and direct the shows herself. Even if she couldn’t turn trash scripts into hits, at least she could make them passable.
If the production company wouldn’t agree? Then… well, she will figure it out later. When the cart gets to the mountain, there’ll be a way forward!
Once off the plane, Qi Siyu started to feel hot in her windbreaker. April in Jiang City was already seeing temperatures over 30°C. A single light shirt would’ve been perfect.
She grabbed her luggage and headed straight to the hotel. After dropping her suitcase off, she went to a nearby mall to pick up necessities.
Facial cleanser, body wash, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, towel, pajamas, toner, moisturizer… she hadn’t packed a single one of these things.
She was only staying for seven days, so she bought everything in the smallest sizes available. Even so, she ended up with a whole basket of stuff.
As for when she left—if everything didn’t fit in her luggage, she’d just mail it home. Qi Siyu wasn’t one to waste things; she prided herself on being practical and thrifty!
Once everything was settled and lunch was delivered, it was already past 1 p.m.
Qi Siyu looked blankly at the three dishes and one soup on the table. She had absentmindedly ordered enough for three people.
They say it takes 21 days to form a habit, but ordering takeout like this hadn’t even gone on for 21 days—especially with Gu Xiaoling cooking at home.
Well, dinner was now sorted… maybe even breakfast tomorrow. Qi Siyu cheerfully found a silver lining in her mistake.
After eating and resting a bit, she geared up and headed out—destination: Hengdian.
She’d already scheduled a meeting for the next morning with the president of the Gu family’s company, using her own company’s name under the guise of discussing a partnership. After all, she couldn’t just barge in and demand contact information for one of the board members.
As for “gearing up”—Qi Siyu considered herself very attractive and recognizable. Especially with her crying-face “beauty collage” still trending online, she was now wearing a mask, sunglasses, and a baseball cap to avoid being noticed.
The problem was… this kind of getup actually drew more attention. Qi Siyu felt like at least half the people on the street were sneaking glances at her. She wasn’t sure whether they thought she was a celebrity—or a suspicious character.
Didn’t matter. As long as they didn’t recognize her, she didn’t care.
As the president of an entertainment company, Qi Siyu had no problem getting a visitor’s pass into Hengdian.
To her surprise, it looked just like the one from her own world. She strolled around leisurely—there were quite a few crews filming today.
“President Qi?? President Qi!!”
Suddenly, someone shouted her name. Instinctively, she almost turned around—but halfway through, she caught herself. There were tons of people with the surname Qi. And with how bundled up she was, who could possibly recognize her?
So she kept walking, pretending not to hear.
But before long, two clearly out-of-breath voices caught up to her.
“President Qi! I didn’t expect to run into you here—what a stroke of luck!” gasped Sun Yingying, panting heavily.
Qi Siyu turned her head and almost failed to recognize her at first glance. Looking closer, she realized it was indeed Sun Yingying, dressed in flamboyant fantasy-costume makeup with a heavy snake motif.
Wasn’t Sun Yingying supposed to be a washed-up idol? Since when did she start acting?
“Mm.” Qi Siyu responded with a cool nod, imitating Gu Qing’s aloof demeanor. All she wanted was to get away—dear god, why was she running into people who’d witnessed her social demise again? This was cruel.
But Sun Yingying didn’t care at all. Her heart was full of joy.
Oh my god, could this be fate? Even the heavens were helping her—just one day apart, and Qi Siyu came running right back to her side!
If she didn’t win Qi Siyu over, she’d be wasting the universe’s divine assistance!
Just then, Qi Siyu suddenly sneezed and shivered.
What the—who’s cursing me behind my back?
Was this lunatic muttering some weird stuff about her again?!
