- Chapter 39 - No Desire to Stay Sober
After her initial daze, little Min Yuruo was filled with genuine admiration. No wonder some people just succeed—this was “by any means necessary” taken to the extreme.
Who needs dignity when you can win?
So when they got home, Mrs. Min discovered that her once well-behaved little sweetheart had become livelier—and occasionally, a little savage.
Credit where credit’s due: President Qi was a great influence!
Gu Qing, numb to the process by now, coaxed Qi Siyu back to her senses with practiced ease.
With the storm passed, everyone happily resumed their fun.
Gu Qing, meanwhile, would chime in from time to time with bits of unexpected knowledge, demonstrating that while she might not have academic credentials, her intellect was anything but lacking.
Fans went wild, demanding that Gu Qing appear in more variety shows. Gone were the days of outrage and heartache when news first broke that she would be joining the drama-prone Carefree Vacation.
Same show, same tone—yet somehow their Gu Qing had turned it into a peaceful and heartwarming escape.
One of the masterminds behind this transformation, Qi Siyu, soon spotted a cotton candy stand. She looked longingly from Gu Qing to the stand, but didn’t ask for anything.
Though her IQ had regressed, her social instincts hadn’t dulled a bit—in fact, they seemed even sharper now.
She had cried and made a scene earlier to regain Gu Qing’s attention, but this time, she sensed a subtle change: Gu Qing had grown noticeably cooler toward her.
It gave her a jolt of panic. Even halfway through crying, she forced herself to stop.
So this time, when she wanted cotton candy, she didn’t dare rush over and tug Gu Qing along like before.
She simply stood there, wide-eyed, gently tugging at the hem of Gu Qing’s shirt with the utmost decorum.
Qi Siyu was beautiful—strikingly so. Gu Qing had always been aware of that.
She’d seen this face at its most arrogant, its gentlest, and now, more recently, in all kinds of moods: bawling, laughing, glowing with joy and anticipation.
Now she was using that same face to play coy, looking up with pleading eyes. Who on earth could say no to that?
Gu Qing told the Min mother-daughter pair she will be right back, then wheeled Qi Siyu over to the cotton candy stand.
There were two options: make your own, or have the vendor do it. Same price either way.
“I want to do it myself,” Qi Siyu said bashfully.
Gu Qing gave a neutral nod.
Qi Siyu stared at her for a good ten seconds, confirming there wasn’t even a hint of annoyance on her face, before gleefully grabbing two sticks and getting to work.
Min Yuruo stood to the side, head tilted up to watch. She figured if Qi Siyu had made two, one was probably for her. Even if the result turned out ugly, she will be polite enough to accept it anyway.
Qi Siyu had heart, but not the hands to match. Just like how she couldn’t cook, she could barely manage spinning the stick to catch the sugar threads.
Before long, both sticks were topped with giant puffs of multi-colored cotton candy—fluffy and sweet-looking.
Qi Siyu handed one to Gu Qing. “It’s sweet!”
Gu Qing blinked, caught off guard.
She was cool and composed by nature—completely at odds with something as soft and sugary as cotton candy.
“Ah, open up,” Qi Siyu said when Gu Qing didn’t respond, mimicking how a parent feeds a child, trying to tempt her into taking a bite.
Gu Qing, on instinct, opened her mouth. The fluffy sweetness pressed against her lips and dissolved as soon as it touched her tongue.
Not just her mouth—her soul felt sweet, too.
Qi Siyu took a big bite of her own cotton candy and exclaimed, “So sweet! So sweet!”
Then she stuck out her tongue dramatically, showing it had turned green from the part she bit into.
Min Yuruo, breathing heavily, glared at Qi Siyu. When she had been persuading her to take up acting, the sweet talk had flowed like water. She’d showered her with compliments on her gaming skills, too.
But now? Tossed aside!
Not only had she cried her way into stealing Gu Qing’s attention—now she wouldn’t even share the cotton candy!
Mrs. Min bought two ready-made cotton candies and shoved one straight into her daughter’s open mouth. “Yes, it’s very sweet. Take smaller bites, okay?”
Just as she was about to flip her switch and go full villain mode, little Min was instantly soothed by sugar. Upon closer inspection, her cotton candy was shaped like an adorable cat. She ran off to flaunt it in front of Qi Siyu, clearly implying that hers was cuter—and Qi Siyu’s were just shapeless blobs.
Qi Siyu looked so mad she was practically about to overheat.
Just then, Gu Qing took another bite of her cotton candy and said, “It’s delicious. And it looks nice, too.”
Qi Siyu jumped up with a triumphant “Oh yeah!” and fired back confidently at Min Yuruo, “You just have no taste!”
But joy turned to disaster—Qi Siyu tripped mid-celebration and fell flat on the ground.
She flailed dramatically, hurting her butt in the process, but managed to protect the cotton candy.
“Are you okay?” came two voices at once—one cool and concerned, belonging to Gu Qing, and the other, from the culprit who’d tripped her.
The person was a foreign Alpha woman, tall, blonde, and blue-eyed—slightly taller than Qi Siyu. When she smiled, sharp canines peeked out, giving off the sunny energy of an over-eager puppy.
After apologizing, her gaze landed on Gu Qing—and then she just stared, dazed and mesmerized.
The blatant, predatory stare made Gu Qing frown.
Qi Siyu immediately stepped in front of her like a shield, locked eyes with the foreign Alpha, and snapped in a foreign language, “Don’t look at her!”
The woman blinked in surprise, then broke into a dazzling grin. She moved to another angle and addressed Gu Qing directly in broken Mandarin:
“Hullo, you very beautiful. I… love… first sight. Can I… spend night with you?”
The livestream audience exploded.
What the hell??
She just met her and already invited her to spend the night?! Foreigners are way too bold!
“I can give you anything you want,” the foreign Alpha said with confidence. Her mangled Mandarin did nothing to hide her sleazy tone. “My skills and pheromones—top tier.”
Gu Qing’s brows furrowed even tighter. Verbal harassment alone wouldn’t normally faze her, but this one had even released pheromones.
For an Omega, a stranger Alpha’s pheromones were tantamount to sexual harassment.
Mrs. Min snapped, covering Min Yuruo’s ears. “Put your pheromones away! This is a children’s park, not some heat pit!”
For Omegas in heat or susceptible periods, highly compatible Alpha pheromones could act like a soothing agent. But outside of those times, it could instead induce or trigger estrus.
As for Alphas, their reactions were the opposite—any scent from a rival Alpha was repulsive.
Especially during an Alpha’s susceptible phase, even the slightest trace of another Alpha’s pheromones could spike their adrenaline, triggering aggression and a deep sense of offense.
And now? That Alpha had just released her pheromones in the direction of an Omega who still bore Qi Siyu’s temporary mark.
Qi Siyu was instantly enraged.
Her pheromones burst out like a tangible force, slamming into the foreign Alpha woman and sending her staggering backward.
“Oh? So this flower’s already been claimed? That just makes me want to dig a little deeper.” The foreign Alpha sneered darkly. She tossed her jacket to the ground and swung a punch at Gu Qing while
simultaneously unleashing a pheromone assault on Qi Siyu.
Mrs. Min and Gu Qing immediately called for security. Guards quickly evacuated nearby park visitors and sprayed the two Alphas with specialized neutralizing agents.
These agents were designed to suppress Alpha pheromones and prevent them from affecting Omegas.
By the time the security team managed to separate them, both Qi Siyu and the foreign Alpha were bruised, battered, and covered in each other’s shoe prints.
Furious, the foreign Alpha wiped the blood from her nose and sneered, “You’ll regret this!”
But the moment Qi Siyu saw the blood on the woman’s hand and under her nose, her eyes rolled back—and she passed out on the spot.
Blood-induced fainting. It always came without warning.
The guards holding her up were nearly scared out of their wits.
Gu Qing had been worried this might happen—and it had. “Don’t panic. She just faints at the sight of blood,” she explained calmly.
Everyone let out a collective sigh of relief.
The entire group was soon transferred to the local police outpost within the amusement park.
Meanwhile, the bratty kid and her parent from earlier were still waiting inside, pending fines and a pickup.
After reviewing the situation, the police quickly determined that Qi Siyu, who had been in a susceptibility episode, only lost control due to provocation. She would only need to pay compensation for park property damages.
The foreign Alpha, however, wasn’t so lucky. Not only was she hit with a hefty fine, but she was also sentenced to three months in detention and was immediately taken into custody.
She shouted angrily, “Do you even know who I am? How dare you treat me like this!”
The local officers remained unfazed, glancing briefly at the cameras filming outside. With the whole world watching, there was no way they would cover up her actions.
Qi Siyu’s accidental PR redemption arc at the amusement park had now run its course. With her unconscious, Gu Qing said goodbye to the Min mother-daughter duo and brought her back to the program’s villa.
In just three days, they’d seen more doctors, cops, and security guards than anyone cared to count.
Gu Qing’s livestream hadn’t contained much drama, but it had definitely delivered excitement.
Qi Siyu was placed back in her room by a staff assistant and carefully settled into bed.
She didn’t stay unconscious for long.
When she woke up, she was completely, utterly sober.
The mix of pheromone and physical stimuli had abruptly ended her susceptibility phase.
She lay on her side, expression blank, secretly watching Gu Qing’s livestream on her phone.
Gu Qing was calmly reading a book, not interacting with the stream. The viewers, left to their own devices, had started chatting among themselves.
Naturally, one of the hot topics was Qi Siyu.
Susceptible-phase Qi Siyu—crybaby, airhead, fiercely possessive, calling Gu Qing “big sis,” impulsive, aggressive…
Qi Siyu groaned and rolled onto her back, her beautiful face contorted with fresh humiliation.
How could a person… die of social shame like this?
How could anyone suffer such a socially tragic death?!
She slapped a hand over her face to hide the metaphorical mask of pain.
After wallowing for a while, she sat up straight. No—she couldn’t just sit here and wait for the embarrassment to pass.
The past was a dark tunnel, but the road ahead would shine bright!
Think, brain, think! How could she salvage her dignity?
She picked up her phone and opened the browser, furiously searching for a solution.
An hour later, Qi Siyu jotted down the two core principles of Operation: Restore Reputation:
Point One:
No video clips of her were to be circulated, and all discussions about her were to be shut down. This would require hiring hackers. Give it time, and people would forget.
Point Two:
Fake memory loss. Pretend she had blacked out—like someone who got drunk and couldn’t remember going on a rampage. If it was okay for drunks to forget, why not someone suffering through a susceptibility episode?
As far as she was concerned, none of the events from the past two days had ever happened.
After repeating this to herself in a mental mantra, she finally worked up the courage to face the world again.
She opened her door.
The living room was empty.
Qi Siyu instinctively stepped back—but no, she reminded herself, she didn’t remember anything! How could she feel embarrassed?
Reaffirming her lie, she walked forward with determination and knocked on Gu Qing’s door.
Before her susceptibility episode, she’d been taken to the hospital due to an apron allergy and was prescribed medication.
As soon as she knocked, the door opened—revealing the filming camerawoman standing right behind it.
Qi Siyu nearly didn’t have time to adjust her expression.
“Gu Qing,” she said, faking a sleepy tone and gently rubbing her neck. “I can’t find my allergy meds. Do you remember where we put them?”
“You don’t remember?” Gu Qing looked up from her book.
She was wearing glasses—not the silver-rimmed frameless ones from before, but the garishly colorful round-framed pair Qi Siyu had picked out for her while acting like a fool on set. The frames were cute, but didn’t match Gu Qing’s elegant temperament.
At first glance, she looked obedient and sweet—but a closer look revealed a dissonant charm.
Another piece of evidence from her humiliating phase! Qi Siyu’s heart clenched.
“Huh?” she responded nervously, rubbing the back of her neck. “Was I supposed to remember something?”
“Wait… weren’t we just on our way back from the hospital? Why did I suddenly wake up in bed?” Qi Siyu did her best to act surprised, rubbing her neck again. “Huh. I don’t feel as itchy now.”
Gu Qing looked her up and down. Qi Siyu was back to normal… but it seemed like she genuinely didn’t remember anything from the past couple of days?
Gu Qing had never heard of pheromone-induced memory blackouts, but given how abruptly Qi Siyu’s episode had started and ended, maybe it had affected her body in strange ways.
Still… was she really forgetting? Gu Qing narrowed her eyes slightly and met Qi Siyu’s gaze.
Her look was like an X-ray, making Qi Siyu’s scalp tingle—as if she could see through everything.
Before Qi Siyu could break eye contact, Gu Qing looked away first.
“It’s the third day of filming. It’s 5:30 PM,” she said, closing the book and removing her glasses, placing them back in their case. “Yesterday, on our way back from the hospital, you suddenly entered susceptibility.”
She paused, then added, “These glasses you bought me yesterday—don’t they look nice?”
“They are nice,” Qi Siyu replied. “But I can’t believe I picked that style for you… They don’t quite suit you.”
She tried to sound genuinely puzzled—but in truth, she remembered everything she’d said and exactly how she’d felt at the time.
“Let’s go eat,” Gu Qing said. As she passed by Qi Siyu, she caught the quickened rhythm of her heartbeat.
She understood everything—but chose to play along.
Still, she couldn’t help but glance back and add softly:
“You said you wanted to bring a little more color into my life.”
