Transmigrated as the School Hunk's Arch-Nemesis [Book Transmigration] - Chapter 13
The rooftop of the teaching building had always been a blind spot for surveillance. Cigarette butts and used lighters could be seen scattered everywhere. After the sun set in the evening, little sparks of fire would always ignite up there.
“Damn it, that idiot King Kong suspended me for half a month!”
“Exactly. It was clearly us who were injured the worst, so why did he only punish us and not Jiang Baiyi?”
“F*ck! That Shen Yixing isn’t a good guy either, he’s a total traitor!”
The sound of a lighter clicked. Sha Xiaohou sat on the rooftop, and as he thought about the humiliation he had suffered not long ago, he kicked the soda can at his feet in hatred.
The can rolled across the ground a few times before being stepped on by a foot, and the chaotic noise stopped instantly.
“So, do you guys want revenge?”
Sha Xiaohou noticed the person at the entrance to the rooftop. Because it was too dark at the door, he couldn’t see the person’s face clearly, but the voice sounded familiar, as if he had heard it somewhere before.
“Which bastard is playing ghost over there?”
A thin, frail boy walked out of the shadows, a faint, clean, and delicate smile on his face.
Once Sha Xiaohou clearly saw who it was, he took the cigarette from his mouth, spat, and mocked, “Yo, isn’t this the little prince? Why aren’t you in the piano room practicing today?”
Ruan Ming lowered his eyes, not taking the mockery to heart. He walked up to Sha Xiaohou with a tense expression and said, “I’m here to make a deal with you.”
Sha Xiaohou frowned, took a fierce drag of his cigarette, and asked, “What are you trying to say?”
The teacher on duty for the evening study session sat at the podium, eyes glued to their phone as they watched a movie. There was a lot of homework for the seniors, and since it was their week of duty, everyone was racing to finish their work.
In the back row of the classroom, Shen Yixing swung his wrist wearily after finishing his homework. The questions were long and tedious, and he really couldn’t understand what the people who wrote them were thinking.
In his peripheral vision, Jiang Baiyi was lying on the desk facing him. His ink-colored eyes reflected the bright lights, his handsome brows slightly furrowed, and his thin lips parted slightly as he said, “You haven’t answered the question I asked you before.”
When Ruan Ming confessed to Jiang Baiyi earlier, Shen Yixing had walked away simply because he didn’t want to be a third wheel. He had no idea how Jiang Baiyi’s mind worked, thinking that Shen Yixing was uncomfortable.
“You have a bad habit of playing mute whenever you’re fine.”
Jiang Baiyi raised his hand to brush the hair from Shen Yixing’s forehead and said, “Don’t you have any thoughts on it?”
Shen Yixing leaned back and thought for a moment before saying, “None.”
Jiang Baiyi wasn’t very satisfied with this answer, hummed, and stopped talking.
There was one more class left in the evening study session, and the time felt long and boring. Shen Yixing finally let his brain rest after correcting a few difficult problems.
The result of overusing his brain was that he became sleepy.
Shen Yixing mimicked Jiang Baiyi and laid his head on the desk, burying his face in his arms as darkness instantly shrouded his eyes.
The surrounding whispers were mixed with the sound of turning pages. Perhaps it was because he had gotten up too early for duty that morning, but Shen Yixing fell asleep not long after closing his eyes.
When the bell rang for the end of class, Jiang Baiyi lifted his head, squinting. The person beside him, who loved studying and focused on writing homework, was already asleep.
The autumn wind at night was chilly. Jiang Baiyi stared at Shen Yixing’s thin frame for a moment, then took off his own jacket and draped it over Shen Yixing.
Afraid of waking Shen Yixing, even Jiang Baiyi’s stretch was light and careful.
“Brother Yi! I want to go to the snack shop!”
Tang Yuan turned around and shouted, only to be struck by a few cold glares.
Tang Yuan looked at Shen Yixing, who was sleeping, and roughly understood what Jiang Baiyi meant.
He mouthed, “Brother Yi, are we going to the snack shop?”
Jiang Baiyi shook his head, then remembered that Shen Yixing hadn’t eaten much for dinner. He stood up and lowered his voice, “Let’s go.”
Hearing the news, Zhao Ci quickly said, “I’m going too!”
After the trio left, Ruan Ming appeared quietly at the front door of the classroom. He scanned the room and found that familiar splash of red in the last row.
Ruan Ming stopped a boy who had just walked out of the classroom, pointed at the person in the last row, and said straight to the point, “Classmate, can you do me a favor and pass a message to him?”
Jin Sheng looked in the direction Ruan Ming was pointing, glanced at Shen Yixing, who was still sleeping, and felt a bit confused.
“What message?”
“Just tell him… I have something else to say regarding the afternoon, so I’ll be waiting for him on the rooftop before class starts.”
After saying this, Ruan Ming suddenly grabbed Jin Sheng and said nervously, “Um… don’t let Shen Yixing know. I’m afraid that he… will hit me.”
“Huh?”
“Tell him he must come! Please, help me tell him, thanks!” Ruan Ming glanced at the person lying on the desk once more and hurried away.
Jin Sheng twitched his lips, unable to understand what Ruan Ming was trying to do. First, he asked him to pass a message to Shen Yixing, then he said not to tell Shen Yixing.
Is he crazy or something?
His shoulder was pushed lightly, and Shen Yixing opened his eyes abruptly. The classroom lights almost blinded him.
Seeing that it was Jin Sheng, Shen Yixing asked coldly, “What is it?”
Jin Sheng was startled by Shen Yixing’s coldness. He sheepishly retracted his hand and said, “Ruan Ming said he has something to talk about, and he’s waiting for you on the rooftop.”
“Ruan Ming?” Shen Yixing thought to himself that he didn’t seem to have anything to talk about with Ruan Ming. “What does he want?”
“Uh, he said it’s about the afternoon. How would I know the specifics!”
The only thing involving Ruan Ming this afternoon was his confession to Jiang Baiyi.
Shen Yixing didn’t have a good impression of Ruan Ming, so naturally, he didn’t really want to go.
Seeing that Shen Yixing was hesitating, Jin Sheng added, “He also said you must go. He seems to be in a rush.”
Shen Yixing frowned and said, “Got it.”
“Brother Yi, why did you buy so much food?”
Tang Yuan looked at the snacks in Jiang Baiyi’s arms, his eyes turning into hearts.
“It’s for my little brother.”
“Brother Yi… you’re really kind.” The hearts in Tang Yuan’s eyes grew larger, and his chubby hand tried to reach into the bag.
Jiang Baiyi slapped Tang Yuan’s claws away and said, “This has nothing to do with you.”
On the way back to the classroom with bags of snacks in his hands, Jiang Baiyi had been fantasizing about Shen Yixing being moved to tears when he saw the snacks he had bought for him. However, when he entered the classroom, he didn’t even see Shen Yixing, let alone witness any moved tears.
“Where is he?”
Looking at the school uniform left on the desk, Jiang Baiyi’s face darkened, and the low pressure was so cold that the people around him didn’t dare to speak.
Jin Sheng, who was the closest, quickly stepped forward and said eagerly, “Shen Yixing went to the rooftop.”
A wave of irritation surged up, and Jiang Baiyi asked impatiently, “Why did he go to the rooftop?”
Jin Sheng blinked rapidly and stuttered, “He… he… Ruan Ming asked him to talk about something.”
The rooftop upstairs was the place where Sha Xiaohou’s non-mainstream gang had dominated for years. Jiang Baiyi frowned, stuffed the items into Tang Yuan’s arms, and said, “I’m going up to check.”
Before leaving, Jiang Baiyi felt uneasy about Tang Yuan’s treasure-like expression and added, “If you steal even one bag, you’ll gain another twenty pounds.”
Walking up the stairs, the door to the rooftop was half-ajar. There wasn’t even a light in the stairwell, and the pitch-black corridor relied entirely on the light from downstairs to barely see the path beneath his feet.
What kind of mysterious business could Ruan Ming have that it had to be discussed up here?
Shen Yixing opened the door with a puzzled expression. The rooftop was quiet, with only the sound of a soda can rolling in the evening wind.
“Is anyone here?”
Shen Yixing took a few steps forward, accidentally kicking a soda can with his foot, when a shadow suddenly emerged from behind and hugged him tightly.
“He’s here, beat him for me!”
“Who? Sha Xiaohou?”
A black shadow fell from above, and Shen Yixing’s vision went dark. A nameless bag was placed over his head, and his right shoulder was instantly struck by a club.
“It’s your grandfather, that’s who!”
Sha Xiaohou was in the thrill of catching Jiang Baiyi and didn’t notice the difference in the voice at all.
There was the sound of an iron rod rubbing together. Shen Yixing, having taken a hit, felt his brain go blank. He exerted force with his legs, kicked the person in front of him away, and pressed down heavily backward at the same time.
Sha Xiaohou was pinned to the ground by Shen Yixing and cursed in pain. He scrambled to get up and kicked at Shen Yixing’s legs, but the person beneath his feet rolled away, and Sha Xiaohou stepped into thin air.
“Damn your mother! Let’s see you be arrogant again!”
Shen Yixing rolled on the ground, finally hitting the rooftop’s railing wall. The pain from his scraped knee made him groan deeply.
Sha Xiaohou wasn’t satisfied that he hadn’t landed a kick. He picked up the club in his lackey’s hand and walked slowly toward him, cursing with dirty language all the way.
“Dog thing, is it great to have money at home? Let’s see how arrogant you can be today.”
“Brother Hou! Brother Hou!”
A person ran in from the rooftop door. The man shouted in a panic, stopping Sha Xiaohou, “You hit the wrong person! Jiang Baiyi just went back to the classroom!”
Sha Xiaohou, who had the iron rod raised in mid-air, was stunned. He turned his head and cursed, “Then who the f*ck is this… Ruan Ming?”
“It’s… it’s… Shen Yixing.”
“Damn it, what the hell, why did this idiot come here?”
Sha Xiaohou dropped the club and said hurriedly, “Let’s go first. If things get exposed later, we won’t get the money!”
“Then what about Shen Yixing?”
“It feels good to beat a traitor anyway. Don’t worry about him, let’s get out of here.”
The chaotic sound of footsteps faded away. Shen Yixing tore off the plastic bag on his head and shook his body as he slowly sat up. The pain from his head hitting the wall hadn’t fully brought him back to his senses yet.
Not long after, footsteps were heard at the entrance of the rooftop again. Shen Yixing clenched his fists alertly. His vision was still blurry, and he could only see a tall figure crouching in front of him, a pair of cold hands cupping his face.
“Who hit you?”
The low voice reached Shen Yixing’s ears. Shen Yixing blinked, trying to see the person in front of him clearly, then frowned.
“Damn! Can you stop playing mute?”
“Sha Xiaohou.” Shen Yixing’s shoulders hurt, his knees hurt, and his forehead hurt. He was in too much pain to speak.
“It’s that grandson again… Where did he hit you? Does it hurt?” Jiang Baiyi couldn’t see clearly in the dark and was afraid of touching the places where Shen Yixing was injured, so he had to pick him up and say, “I’ll take you to the school infirmary first.”
An arm wrapped around Shen Yixing’s waist. Before he could react, his body had already left the ground. It wasn’t until they walked into the light downstairs that he realized he was being held in Jiang Baiyi’s arms.
Jiang Baiyi carried him all the way to the infirmary, assisting the school doctor with the examination and medication as if completing a mission. When the examination report came out, he anxiously went to ask the doctor about the situation again.
There were two rooms in the infirmary. The outer one was for general visits, and there was a hospital bed in the rest room inside. After Shen Yixing finished his examination, he was placed on this bed by Jiang Baiyi.
The surrounding air was mixed with the pungent smell of medicine. The small window beside the hospital bed was closed tightly. A bird landed on the windowsill outside, picked up a small broken piece of wood, flapped its wings twice, and flew away.
Shen Yixing watched the bird fly away and slowly lowered his eyes.
On the other side, due to issues with the medication prescription, Jiang Baiyi was scolded harshly by the temperamental school doctor.
If it weren’t for the fact that Shen Yixing was injured, he wouldn’t have come here to take this abuse. Carrying a heart full of anger, Jiang Baiyi took long strides into the back room of the infirmary.
As soon as he entered the room, he saw Shen Yixing sitting on the edge of the bed with his feet hanging down. His school uniform was worn loosely on him, and the collarbone beneath his fair neck was faintly visible. He lowered his head, his long, thick eyelashes half-drooped, and his teeth gently bit his rosy, thin lips. Soon, he licked the bitten area with the tip of his tongue.
The light from above refracted into the air, forming a blurry halo around Shen Yixing. He looked very fragile and seemingly lonely like this.
Jiang Baiyi didn’t know when the anger in his heart had disappeared. By the time he came back to his senses, Shen Yixing had already looked up in his direction.
“The school doctor said the bone in your shoulder isn’t injured, it’s not a big deal, and it will be fine after applying a few plasters.” Jiang Baiyi walked to Shen Yixing in two or three steps and handed him the plastic bag containing the medicine. “There are iodophor cotton swabs inside. You can disinfect the wound now.”
Shen Yixing raised his hand to take the plastic bag and curled his lips into a smile. “Thanks.”
Jiang Baiyi had never seen such a polite Shen Yixing, and this smile—it was clean, just like a piece of perfect jade without the slightest flaw.
The two were speechless, and the atmosphere suddenly became a bit awkward. Jiang Baiyi felt that he was burning up, so he reached out and opened the window to let in some air.
The fragrance of sweet osmanthus from outside the window rushed in, instantly diluting the pungent smell of medicine in the infirmary.
Shen Yixing opened the iodophor cotton swabs and took one out to disinfect the wound on his knee.
Stabs of sharp pain climbed up his nerves and into his brain. Shen Yixing’s hand trembled, and he gritted his teeth to endure the pain while disinfecting.
Jiang Baiyi, who had finished airing out the room, turned around and saw Shen Yixing carefully holding the cotton swab to disinfect. The way he wiped it bit by bit was just like a little girl.
After Shen Yixing finished wiping one knee, Jiang Baiyi couldn’t watch anymore.
“How can you disinfect like that? Even if you wipe it a hundred times, it’s useless.”
He stepped forward and took the cotton swab box, quickly took one out, pressed one hand on Shen Yixing’s thigh, and controlled the force with the other hand to wipe the wound.
“Hiss.”
Shen Yixing sucked in a breath of cold air, nearly squeezing out tears from the pain.
His hand involuntarily gripped Jiang Baiyi’s shoulder, and he let out a soft groan. “Can you be a little lighter?”
The cotton swab in Jiang Baiyi’s hand paused, and he said, “I didn’t use force.”
The rest room fell silent again. While Jiang Baiyi was disinfecting for Shen Yixing, he asked, “What exactly happened? Didn’t Ruan Ming say he had something to tell you? How did you end up getting involved with Sha Xiaohou?”
Shen Yixing didn’t know what happened either. He had gone to the rooftop and was inexplicably beaten up.
“I don’t know, but the person Sha Xiaohou wanted to beat was you.” Shen Yixing lowered his head. Because of the pain, the hand he had pressed on Jiang Baiyi’s shoulder added a little force.
“If you feel pain, don’t hold it in. Cry or shout if you need to.” After finishing the disinfection, Jiang Baiyi sat beside Shen Yixing, organized his thoughts, and said, “You said Ruan Ming had something to talk to you about, and he was waiting for you on the rooftop?”
Shen Yixing nodded. “Yes.”
“And you were beaten by Sha Xiaohou as soon as you went up to the rooftop?”
Shen Yixing nodded again. “Yes.”
Speaking of this, the hostility on Jiang Baiyi’s body grew heavier. “And then?”
Shen Yixing rubbed his shoulder and said, “I heard Sha Xiaohou mention money. It’s possible someone hired them to beat you.” After speaking, Shen Yixing glanced at Jiang Baiyi. “To summarize, I took the blow for you.”
Jiang Baiyi, who had still been angry, felt amused when he heard this. “So, are you looking for compensation?”
“No.” Shen Yixing’s expression was indifferent. “I want to say that you help me keep a secret, and I got beaten because of you. In this way, we are even.”
The smile on Jiang Baiyi’s lips instantly collapsed. “Don’t dream. These are two different things.”
The infirmary was quiet, and one could vaguely hear the radio broadcast played by the school doctor.
Jiang Baiyi stretched, and just as his hand was about to fall on Shen Yixing’s shoulder, he suddenly paused, turning it into placing it on Shen Yixing’s head instead.
Soft hair passed through his fingertips, and Jiang Baiyi’s eyes gradually became gentle.
He gently rubbed Shen Yixing’s hair and said, “I’ll get you some payback for what happened today.”
