Transmigrated as the Husband of a Vicious Villainess - Chapter 31
After the others left, Wen Miao finally relaxed and leaned back against her chair.
Hearing the other woman’s words, a hint of a smile played on Wen Miao’s lips, her expression casual and unbothered.
“Is it that obvious?” she asked.
Shang Min poured her a glass of water and replied, “It’s quite obvious to me. Others might not notice, but I can see that the way you look at her is different from how you look at everyone else.”
Despite being a stunning woman with fox-like beauty and flirtatious “peach blossom” eyes, Wen Miao’s gaze was usually as calm as still water. It was only when facing Ji Baiqing that a ripple of emotion surfaced.
Wen Miao nodded. “True. Unfortunately, she hasn’t ‘awakened’ yet. She still thinks we’re just friends.”
Finding out such a beauty was already taken didn’t upset Shang Min; instead, she chatted with her like an old friend.
“Actually, maybe not,” Shang Min suggested. “I noticed she seemed a bit hostile toward me. Perhaps she’s jealous?”
For some reason, Wen Miao had felt an instinctive liking for Shang Min from the moment they met.
She knitted her brows slightly, sounding troubled and complaining, “Exactly. How can someone be so annoying? She clearly likes me, yet she keeps pushing me away.”
Shang Min looked at her, a flash of mischief crossing her face.
Pressing a finger to her lips, she whispered, “Watch me. Don’t say a word.”
The moment she finished speaking, she stood up. The water glass on the table hit the floor with a loud thud, shattering into ceramic shards instantly.
Shang Min wrapped an arm around Wen Miao’s shoulder, pulling her into an embrace. Wen Miao tumbled straight into Shang Min’s arms.
At the door, Ji Baiqing heard the commotion. Her composure vanished instantly, and she kicked the door open.
The scene that met her eyes was Wen Miao and Shang Min in an overly intimate position.
Her eyes widened. Her heart felt as though it were being squeezed by an invisible giant hand, giving rise to boundless bitterness and jealousy.
“What, what are you doing!”
Regardless of whether they were mutually attracted or if Wen Miao was being coerced, Ji Baiqing strode forward and yanked Wen Miao into her own arms.
Shang Min didn’t get angry at having the beauty snatched away. She simply looked at Ji Baiqing with a smile and said, “If I remember correctly, Comrade Wen is my blind date. A little hug shouldn’t be a problem, right?”
“Bullshit!” Ji Baiqing snapped, looking like a little leopard whose mate had been stolen, glaring fiercely at Shang Min.
“She only has me to hug!” The words left her mouth before she could think.
Beside them, Wang Guihua felt things were getting awkward. “This,” she said.
She looked at Shang Min hesitantly.
Shang Min gave her a subtle shake of the head. Wang Guihua took the hint and stood quietly to the side.
After dropping that declaration, Ji Baiqing threw down a yuan, grabbed Wen Miao, and walked out without a word.
Wen Miao was held so tightly that red marks began to form on her wrist, but she didn’t complain. She simply stared at the back of the woman leading her, feeling a bit dazed.
Once they reached home, Ji Baiqing parked the vehicle, pulled Wen Miao into the room, and locked the door. Her eyes were watery and rimmed with a faint red.
She stared at Wen Miao, her voice dry. “Why did you let her hug you?”
Wen Miao pulled her hand away and sat on the edge of the bed. Bracing herself with her hands, she tilted her head with feigned confusion. “Didn’t you want me to go on the blind date? If we like each other, why can’t we hug?”
A smile curled on her lips. “What will you do when there are even more things to be done in the future? A-Qing, I told you that you can’t be this greedy.”
“In the future, we’ll hold hands, kiss, and even,” she teased.
Before she could finish, Ji Baiqing suddenly seemed provoked. She lunged forward, pinning Wen Miao down onto the bed.
Ji Baiqing blocked those red lips with her own. She skillfully used her tongue to pry open Wen Miao’s lips, greedily drinking in her sweetness. The hand that had been cradling the back of Wen Miao’s head slowly slid down to the nape of her neck.
Wen Miao was kissed until she could barely breathe. Her amber eyes were clouded with a thin mist, and her lashes grew damp. She looked at Ji Baiqing with watery eyes, letting out an involuntary soft moan as she felt the hand at the back of her neck roaming.
The woman’s voice was sweet and soft. Hearing it only made Ji Baiqing more insatiable. Desperate to stake her claim, she tangled their tongues together, licking and coaxing.
The sudden kiss drenched them both like a rainstorm, lingering and passionate despite the hot weather. Sweat broke out on their skin, and the tips of their noses turned pink, yet Ji Baiqing showed no sign of stopping.
After a long time, Wen Miao was finally released.
Fresh air flooded her lungs. Her chest heaved, and her body felt so weak it didn’t seem like her own; even moving a finger felt taxing. Her tongue, bitten red and swollen, rested against her lips, unable to fully retract.
Ji Baiqing let her rest for a moment before pulling her onto her lap. She circled her arms around Wen Miao’s slender waist, burying her face in the crook of her neck, inhaling her scent hungrily.
“Zhenzhen, Sister, I was wrong.”
Ji Baiqing’s voice was muffled and carried a hint of acting spoiled; it was a total contrast to her ferocity moments ago.
A fierce wolf just a second ago, a tail-wagging dog now.
Wen Miao’s tongue was still numb from the suction. Her voice was incredibly raspy. “What did you do wrong?”
Ji Baiqing’s voice choked up. “I, I do like you. I just didn’t recognize my own heart, so I pushed you to someone else.”
Seeing Wen Miao in Shang Min’s arms had made Ji Baiqing’s heart ache with a bitterness that suggested a future where Wen Miao would leave her behind once she found someone else.
The string that had been pulled taut in her mind suddenly snapped with a pop.
In that moment, her only thought was to pull them apart.
On the way home, Ji Baiqing had thought a lot. Her chest was full of sourness and ache, and the emotions she hadn’t quite realized before were now overflowing.
She finally understood what that hazy feeling for Wen Miao, the one that crossed the boundary of friendship, really was.
It was love.
She loved Wen Miao, the way one loves a partner.
She looked up, her eyes red, her lips flushed from the long kiss.
“Don’t like her. Keep liking me, okay?”
Wen Miao slowly reached out to touch the corner of Ji Baiqing’s eye, then pressed down firmly.
The redness deepened. Ji Baiqing gave a wronged whimper but didn’t pull away; instead, she leaned closer to the culprit.
Seeing her act so submissive, it was impossible for Wen Miao not to feel soft-hearted. However, remembering what the girl had done earlier, she pushed her away.
“You don’t like me. How do you know for sure it’s love? Maybe you just haven’t met enough people.”
Ji Baiqing found these words familiar.
When she recalled them, she realized they were the very words she had once said to Wen Miao.
Hearing them thrown back at her now, Ji Baiqing’s face turned various shades of red and blue.
She rubbed her face against Wen Miao’s shoulder, nearly crying. “I was wrong, Zhenzhen. I was really wrong. Please forgive me.”
Seeing that Wen Miao wasn’t falling for the soft approach, she cupped the beauty’s face and began peppering kisses all over the tear-mole beneath Wen Miao’s eye.
Amused by the bird-like pecking, Wen Miao couldn’t keep a straight face anymore. Her expression softened, and she reached out to ruffle the woman’s messy hair.
She truly loved Ji Baiqing. She had wanted the girl to recognize her feelings and wanted to claim her for herself. Now that she had achieved her goal, she didn’t want to make things too difficult for her.
Everything before was just because this idiot hadn’t seen her own heart clearly. As the Sister who was three years older, she would naturally be forgiving.
“Don’t let there be a next time.”
Upon hearing this, Ji Baiqing snapped her head up, her eyes sparkling.
“Zhenzhen, you’re the best!”
Her tone was joyful, her apricot eyes curving into crescents filled with light, reflecting her elation.
Wen Miao placed a kiss on the corner of her eye and said solemnly, “Ji Baiqing, I will emphasize this one last time: I truly love you.”
“And I only love you.”
Ji Baiqing nodded vigorously, mirroring her sincerity. “Wen Miao, I love you too. Only you.”
She paused for a moment, the flush on her cheeks deepening as she whispered, “The kind of love where I want you to be my wife.”
Holding the fragrant, soft beauty in her arms, Ji Baiqing felt a pang of regret.
If only she had realized her feelings sooner, she and Wen Miao wouldn’t have had to go through so much awkward time.
And that Shang Min wouldn’t have gotten to hug Wen Miao.
At that thought, she looked up and stared straight at Wen Miao. “Zhenzhen, do you like Shang Min?”
Wen Miao was feeling drowsy in her arms. It wasn’t just Ji Baiqing who had been losing sleep; she had been suffering as well. Now she could finally relax.
Hearing the question, she opened her eyes lazily. “No.”
The jealousy in Ji Baiqing’s eyes was obvious. She sounded like she wanted to rush back to town and tear Shang Min apart. “But she hugged you. You’re so pretty; she definitely has a crush on you.”
Wen Miao closed her eyes again, her voice languid. “No. She knew I liked you. The hug was intentional, she just wanted to make you jealous.”
Hearing that, Ji Baiqing gnashed her teeth and finally bit down on Wen Miao’s earlobe, complaining indistinctly, “Bad Sister.”
Ji Baiqing’s teeth were sharp, and the bite stung a little. Wen Miao hissed softly and pushed her away with annoyance.
“You love biting so much, are you a puppy?”
After saying that, she reached out and pinched Ji Baiqing’s cheeks. “Bad Little Sister.”
Ji Baiqing’s heart trembled at the flirtatious glance Wen Miao gave her. She felt as if she were soaking in honey. Like sticky candy, she clung to her again; biting, kissing, and hugging.
Despite Wen Miao’s patience, she eventually got a bit annoyed by the clinginess and pushed her away with feigned disgust.
Ji Baiqing wanted to keep sticking to her, but suddenly He Xiangyue’s loud voice drifted in from outside.
“Ji Baiqing! Where’s lunch? You haven’t made it yet!”
Ji Baiqing and Wen Miao looked at each other. Wen Miao gave her a playful push. “Go cook.”
Left with no choice, Ji Baiqing let go of Wen Miao and scurried out of the room.
Left alone, Wen Miao straightened her appearance in the mirror. Seeing her cheeks looking more vibrant than a begonia flower after the kissing, she felt a sudden rush of shyness and flipped the mirror face-down on the table.
She waited until her face returned to a normal color before heading out.
During the meal, He Xiangyue noticed that her daughter and Youth Wen seemed to have made up again.
This time, they seemed even more inseparable than before. Ji Baiqing was almost chasing Wen Miao to feed her, treating her like a child.
He Xiangyue frowned at the sight. She kicked Ji Baiqing under the table and signaled her with a look to act normal.
Wen Miao also gave Ji Baiqing a secret glare. Only then did the latter settle down, though she looked a bit dejected.
Seeing this, Wen Miao gave in and placed a piece of eggplant into Ji Baiqing’s bowl.
Seeing the food personally served by her beautiful wife, Ji Baiqing cheered up instantly, her non-existent tail wagging non-stop behind her.
After lunch, Ji Baiqing pressed into Wen Miao for another clingy, playful session. The two were so close that they were soon drenched in sweat. Finally, Ji Baiqing brought some water to give them both a quick wipe-down before they curled up together for a sweet, blissful nap.
As Ji Baiqing held her close this time, only one thought filled her mind.
And that was: Having a wife is truly wonderful!
Ji Baiqing woke up extra early. Remembering how Wen Miao had been upset last time because she hadn’t invited her to town, she had certainly learned her lesson.
The sky was brightening earlier and earlier now. Around four o’clock, the room was already filled with a dim, hazy light.
She turned her head to look at Wen Miao’s peaceful sleeping face, the excitement in her heart still refusing to subside.
This was her wife.
At that thought, Ji Baiqing leaned in and pulled her into a firm embrace, kissing her way up from Wen Miao’s chin until she reached her lips.
It was a soft, lingering way of kissing, like a small animal. There was no real force behind it, just a constant, gentle sucking. The sound of their lips meeting was strikingly clear in the small, quiet room.
Wen Miao woke up in a daze, her eyes still clouded with a thin mist of sleep.
A soft moan escaped her lips. Seeing her awake, Ji Baiqing’s eyes curved into crescents, her voice thick with a smile.
“You’re awake? Do you want to come to town with me today?”
Wen Miao wasn’t fully conscious yet, but her body reacted instinctively, giving a light nod.
Ji Baiqing found her dazed expression adorable and couldn’t help but lean in again, planting two loud, resonant kisses on her cheek.
“Then hurry and get up.”
Thinking about the beautiful clothes Wen Miao had worn for the blind date yesterday, Ji Baiqing felt a flash of jealousy and emphasized, “You have to wear a pretty dress I haven’t seen before today, too.”
What was she even talking about? Wen Miao, now a bit more awake, didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at her childish words.
In the end, she picked out a dress she hadn’t worn yet and put it on. When they were ready to leave, Ji Baiqing looked her up and down and nodded with immense satisfaction.
“Sister looks so beautiful today!”
Wen Miao arched an eyebrow and asked playfully, “I wasn’t beautiful before?”
Ji Baiqing laughed as she pushed her bicycle. “Of course you’re beautiful every day, but you get even more beautiful with each passing day.”
Wen Miao gave a reserved nod, feeling fairly satisfied with that answer.
The two didn’t linger and hurried toward the town on the bike.
Since they left so early, they hadn’t eaten breakfast at home, and the food at the state-run restaurant wasn’t ready yet. Ji Baiqing had brought some dry rations, planning to eat a bit with some water once they got hungry.
But the thought of this delicate, stunning beauty gnawing on dry bread beside her made Ji Baiqing feel a bit pathetic, as if she were mistreating her.
Finally, before she went to slaughter the pig, Ji Baiqing hesitated and said to Wen Miao, “Are you hungry? If you are, go to the state-run restaurant and buy something to eat when the time comes.”
She was going to be busy for quite a while.
But after slaughtering the fat pig for the day, Ji Baiqing changed her mind again.
She said, “Actually, never mind. How about I give someone some money and ask them to bring something back?”
The beauty was so gorgeous and looked like she couldn’t even lift a finger. What if she got bullied going to buy breakfast on her own?
Ji Baiqing’s current attitude was that she was afraid Wen Miao would melt if held in her mouth or break if held in her hands.
Hearing her worried words, Wen Miao felt a bit helpless.
She could only say, “I’ll just eat the dry rations. How could I be that delicate?”
Ji Baiqing didn’t say anything to that, simply pushing her cart to the stall while silently disagreeing in her heart.
Wen Miao was a precious eldest young lady. How could she suffer just by following her?
In an instant, her desire to make money grew even stronger.
Now that Wen Miao was willing to be her wife, she had to raise her even better than before.
She gave Wen Miao an affectionate look. Seeing people approach to buy meat once the stall was set up, she whispered, “Just eat a little bit to tide you over. I’ll take you out for a real meal once I’m done selling the meat.”
Wen Miao nodded gently and gave her a push. “Alright, stop worrying about me. I can take care of myself.”
It wasn’t as if she had suddenly become incapable just because she started a relationship. She didn’t know where Ji Baiqing, at such a young age, got all this worry from.
Ji Baiqing always had a large appetite. Thinking she hadn’t eaten yet and must be hungry, Wen Miao ate half a biscuit and used the gap between customers to feed the remaining one and a half to Ji Baiqing.
The older ladies and aunts nearby teased Ji Baiqing for her good fortune, having such a thoughtful “sister” helping her out.
Only Ji Baiqing, who knew the truth, let her imaginary tail wag high in the air. She thought to herself, “She’s not my sister; she’s the wife I just officially got together with!”
After selling the last piece of meat, Ji Baiqing and Wen Miao tidied up the stall together.
Wen Miao helped with the cart, her fair hands getting a slight fishy smell on them.
Before they went to eat, Ji Baiqing grabbed her hands and rinsed them thoroughly under the tap, using her own soap. She didn’t let go until the smell was gone, then gave her own hands a quick wash.
After Wen Miao hopped on, they rode to the state-run restaurant. After their meal, they made a trip to the post office to mail some letters.
The two had stayed up late the previous night writing for a long time.
After all, starting a relationship was something that needed to be reported to parents. Ji Baiqing had written three versions and still wasn’t satisfied. It wasn’t until Wen Miao got sleepy and forced her to go to bed that she finally settled on the final version of the letter.
As she mailed it, Ji Baiqing’s heart beat a little faster. She asked Wen Miao, “Will Grandma and the others not like me?”
Actually, she was still a bit confused. Was the acceptance of same-sex relationships really this high in this era?
Wen Miao took her hand and comforted her. “Don’t worry. My grandma and aunts are quite open-minded.”
Besides, in a few months, same-sex relationships would become legal.
Wen Miao could afford to wait that long.
Hearing her comfort, Ji Baiqing’s internal worries lessened significantly. She beamed and said, “That’s good. If Grandma and the others don’t like me, I’ll just cling to their legs and cry when I go back with you for National Day.”
She added a bit smugly, “Anyway, you’ve already ‘devoured’ me. You can’t just be irresponsible now.”
Ji Baiqing didn’t lower her voice at all while saying this on the street. Quite a few passersby turned their heads to look at them.
Wen Miao’s fingers curled slightly. In a fit of shame, she reached out to cover Ji Baiqing’s mouth. “You… stop talking! We’re outside!”
And when exactly had she “devoured” Ji Baiqing?!
Gazing into the beauty’s coquettish, reproaching eyes, Ji Baiqing nodded very obediently and made muffled sounds to show she understood.
Only then did Wen Miao let her go.
After returning, Wen Miao looked at the flowers and grapes planted in the courtyard. The flower seeds were starting to sprout little buds, and the roses and grapevines were also putting out new green shoots and roots.
She suddenly remembered the floral dew she had promised to make for Ji Baiqing.
If she had to pick a flower that suited Ji Baiqing best, she would choose jasmine.
Fresh, elegant, and fragrant without being cloying; it fit Ji Baiqing’s personality perfectly.
However, she didn’t know if there was any jasmine in Yunshui Village.
But she thought she had seen a green plant similar to jasmine on the back mountain last time.
As she was thinking, the savory scent of meat wafted from the kitchen. She took a sniff and headed inside.
She happened to catch Ji Baiqing tossing chopped chili peppers into the pot. Wen Miao was choked into a sneezing fit and eventually had to step back outside.
It wasn’t until after dinner that she asked Ji Baiqing. Upon hearing her, Ji Baiqing thought for a moment and remembered seeing jasmine on the back mountain last year.
She said, “There should be some. Let’s go check it out together later.”
Wen Miao nodded. If there was jasmine, she could pick some in advance and buy a small stove with a spout in town in a few days.
Once the sun wasn’t quite as fierce, Ji Baiqing led Wen Miao up the back mountain.
They looked carefully around the foot of the mountain and finally found the plants hidden away in a corner.
The leaves were a vibrant green, dotted with a few small white flowers.
Wen Miao’s eyes lit up. She took the small hoe from Ji Baiqing’s hand, intending to dig the flowers up to take home and plant.
The first and second plants came out normally. When she got to the third, her hoe hit something hard. Confused, she moved the hoe to the side and carefully pried out a dark, crusty object.
She set it aside without looking much at it and continued digging the rest of the jasmine. Instead, it was Ji Baiqing who stood by and took a second look at the unknown object.
The more Ji Baiqing looked, the more something felt off. This thing looked so much like…
She stepped forward to pick it up and wiped away the dirt. A golden hue, mixed with some earthen impurities, was revealed.
Ji Baiqing went silent.
Seeing her motionless, Wen Miao gave her a strange look. What was wrong?
Ji Baiqing swallowed hard. “I think we just dug up some gold.”
In the original plot, the gold that belonged to Shen Niannian, the large gold bar that was supposed to appear as travel money after she got into university, had just been dug up by Wen Miao like it was nothing!
Hearing it was gold, Wen Miao didn’t actually care that much.
She simply tossed out a casual complaint: “Who in their right mind buries gold in the ground?”
With that, she went back to digging up her jasmine.
Ji Baiqing couldn’t be as nonchalant as Wen Miao. Using a shallow stream nearby to wash the filth off the gold bar, she hid the item inside her clothes like a thief.
She remained cautious all the way back, terrified that someone would discover the massive gold bar.
At this point, she didn’t even dare tell He Xiangyue. She stuffed the gold bar into the box where Wen Miao usually kept her money.
Seeing such a large piece of gold taking up space in her box, Wen Miao actually looked a bit disgusted.
“So ugly,” she grumbled.
Ji Baiqing tapped her forehead. “This gold will be of great use to you in the future!”
Wen Miao gave a huff, clearly not believing her.
Fine then.
She could only emphasize one more time, “You can exchange this for money later. Don’t lose it.”
Hearing this, Wen Miao could only give a very reluctant nod and locked the box in front of Ji Baiqing.
Satisfied, Ji Baiqing nodded.
As a reward, she planted a kiss on Wen Miao’s cheek.
The kiss was as light as a dragonfly skimming the water. Wen Miao was a bit dissatisfied. She pouted her lips slightly and pointed to them. “Kiss me here.”
Her way of asking for a kiss was both arrogant and adorable, making her look even more like a cat.
Having categorized her as a cat in her mind, Ji Baiqing found her incredibly cute.
She leaned in close to satisfy Wen Miao’s request.
“Gently, gently,” Wen Miao’s last words were swallowed up in the exchange of their lips and teeth.
