Transmigrated as the Heroine’s Perfect Alpha - Chapter 13
After finishing her sentence, Xie Ling glanced at Lin Man. Her subtext could not have been more obvious.
Ren Xuan looked down at the wrist held by Xie Ling. When she looked up, she first glanced at Ji Xue before turning her gaze to Lin Man. The warning in her eyes was blunt and unconcealed.
Everyone present had benefited from their family’s influence. Compared to the Lin family, this private restaurant’s owner had a closer relationship with the Ren family. As the only daughter of the Ren family, Ren Xuan had quite a bit of pull. If Lin Man really wanted to be tactless and dared to use any improper means here, then nobody would have a good day.
As an Alpha, acting so rudely toward an Omega who looked so fragile, regardless of the reason, was something that should be looked down upon.
Of course, Ren Xuan’s appearance was not solely to be a hero; it was largely because she found Lin Man unpleasant.
Xie Ling did not look at Ji Xue at all throughout the encounter. On one hand, she did not want to complicate things; on the other, it was out of guilt.
Logically, her system task should have been completed. However, after the paper was sent successfully, she still saw that the progress bar in the top right corner had only reached eighty percent. She did not know if the remaining twenty percent required the results to be released before it would finish.
The more Xie Ling thought about it, the more irritable she became. She simply pulled Ren Xuan outside, not caring about what kind of gibberish Lin Man was spitting out with that sarcastic, forced smile.
The black Bentley was waiting downstairs. Xie Ling glanced at the white Porsche parked next to it, released Ren Xuan’s wrist, and looked back. “You have been drinking. I will take you home.”
“Okay.” Ren Xuan agreed with a smile, her gentle brows and eyes looking completely different from how they had been when facing Lin Man.
The driver, wearing white gloves, took the initiative to open the door and stood by the car waiting for the two ladies to get in. He only returned to the driver’s seat after closing the door.
Ren Xuan sat next to Xie Ling, looked at her own car through the window, and explained, “I did not intend to drink, but I could not help tasting a little just now.”
Xie Ling twitched the corners of her mouth. She had noticed that when Qian Lu mentioned Lin Man, the half-glass of red wine that had been sitting by Ren Xuan’s hand untouched was finished in one gulp right after that.
Xie Ling knew exactly why.
A few words on paper were one thing, but being in the middle of it was truly unspeakable.
Ren Xuan hid her feelings very well. She was much more sophisticated than Qian Lu, but the more that was the case, the more Xie Ling felt unbearable pity in her heart.
“Ling, do you think Qian Lu and Wenwen can make it work?” Ren Xuan turned to the side, half-leaning against the back of the seat, and looked at Xie Ling’s profile through the dim ambient light.
Xie Ling felt that scorching gaze. She insisted on looking out the window without turning back and replied without hesitation, “Yes. They have liked each other for a long time. It is just that neither of them had pierced that layer of paper. It is good that they said it out loud like this.”
“I think so too.” Ren Xuan withdrew her gaze, sat up straight, and slowly closed her eyes.
The place where Ren Xuan lived was not far from the Xie residence. It was in the same residential complex as Xie Ling’s flat, with a straight-line distance of no more than two kilometers. However, if one actually drove there, it would take some time to navigate the winding roads. Because of the many traffic lights, it usually took fifteen to twenty minutes.
The car stopped at the gate of the complex. Xie Ling lowered the window, looked up, and found her own floor. A thousand emotions flooded her heart.
Ren Xuan silently opened the door and got out. After walking a few steps, she turned around and waved at Xie Ling. Under the streetlights, her smile was brilliant.
Xie Ling also waved back with a smile. She knew that from tonight on, some subtle changes would inevitably occur between Ren Xuan and Xie Ling.
She only wished that Ren Xuan would find the person who belonged to her soon.
She herself was not a good match.
Returning to the Xie home, it was already past nine o’clock. Xie Ling had not done anything, but she felt physically and mentally exhausted.
Madam He was sitting on the living room sofa in her pajamas, holding a tablet. Xie Ling was met with that face covered in a facial mask and jumped back in fright, hitting the cabinet behind her.
“Oh, keep it down. Your father has already gone to bed.” Madam He beckoned, signaling Xie Ling to come over.
Xie Ling smoothed her chest, shuffled over in her slippers, and sat down next to He Rong. She leaned in to look and was stunned. “Are you planning to get a dog?”
“I have the intention, but I have not decided yet.” He Rong tapped the screen again and returned to the chat interface. There were over a dozen thumbnails and over a dozen different dogs.
Xie Ling looked at them carefully for a while and thought, “Maltese are very pretty, and Alaskan Malamutes are very handsome. It depends on what you like.”
“That is true. I am thinking about it too. A Maltese does not need to be walked; you can just let it run in the yard. An Alaskan Malamute sheds hair and needs to be walked, but they really are beautiful.” Madam He was also conflicted. She had looked at dozens of recommendations, and currently, those two were the ones that best fit her preferences.
“Why not get both?”
Xie Ling was surprised. “Go ahead and get them. If you like them, just get one of each.”
“Then will you help Mommy take care of them?” He Rong’s eyes suddenly sparkled, full of anticipation.
Xie Ling’s mouth twitched, and she quickly got up to run away. “I am moving back out after the Lantern Festival. My dear mother, you had better find someone else.”
He Rong: “…”
Xie Ling liked small animals, but only from a distance. Asking her to take care of them was a bit difficult for her.
Madam He’s sudden impulse had come at the perfect time. Xie Ling had originally been hesitant about whether to end her pampered life as a rich daughter so quickly, but she had unexpectedly been forced into a decision on the spot.
Back in her room, Xie Ling tossed her phone aside and went straight to the bathroom to reapply two waterproof suppression patches on her neck.
In the large smart mirror, Xie Ling was draped only in a large bath towel.
Warm water flowed over the pale, unblemished back of her hand. Although she had changed to an extra-large waterproof bandage before touching the water, she still held that hand awkwardly to one side. Xie Ling also tried her best to avoid the water flow with her left leg, where the bruise on her shin was clearly visible.
Her posture was very awkward. In such a situation, when she looked down again, the organs that proved she was an Alpha became strikingly obvious.
When she first saw them, Xie Ling’s mood had been complicated and hard to accept. Now that she had seen them often, she had become accustomed to it.
Although, she was still a little embarrassed.
But thinking that she would be able to use her hands freely during intimate activities in the future made her look forward to it.
Xie Ling rinsed off quickly. After coming out of the bathroom, she went to the walk-in closet to change into pajamas. When she returned to the bed, a new message popped up on her phone screen.
She glanced at the computer desk at the foot of the bed and lit up the dimmed phone screen.
A cat avatar, a one-character nickname, it was from Ji Xue.
Xie Ling tapped on it. It was an animated sticker of a cat bowing, followed by the words “Thank you.”
Thank you? What was there to thank her for?
Xie Ling thought, if you knew I plagiarized your hard work, let’s see if you would still thank me.
Returning to the chat list, the four-person group, which had been set to “Do Not Disturb” mode, popped up again.
Xie Ling looked at the message Qian Lu had sent and did not know whether to laugh or cry. She replied with a string of “hahahahaha.”
Truly, the cycle of karma is real.
In Qian Lu’s selfie, there was a palm print on her left cheek, swollen high. It was easy to tell that a heavy hand had been used, otherwise, the imprint of the thumb would not have been so clear.
Tang Wenwen’s typing speed was not to be underestimated. She rapidly flooded the screen, pushing that evidence of the crime up.
“Scum. Alpha. Must. Die. A. Horrible. Death. Qian. Lu. You. Damn. It. You. Dared. To. Take. Advantage. Of. Me. If. I. Do. Not. Beat. You. To. Death. Count. It. As. My. Mercy!” Xie Ling read it word for word, laughing until her stomach ached.
Qian Lu’s message was pushed up. After a moment of silence, she followed Tang Wenwen’s example and sent messages one character at a time.
Xie Ling read them out loud, and only then did she understand that Qian Lu had only acted after chasing her, not confessed. Only now, in the group, did she say the words that should have been said long ago.
“Tang Wenwen, I damn well like you! Do you understand at all! I like you! I want to sleep with you!”
Xie Ling paused as she read the last sentence, then burst into loud laughter. This Qian Lu was truly top-tier; how could she dare to say anything? She was really courting death.
Sure enough, a second later, Tang Wenwen exited the group chat.
Xie Ling replied with a string of ellipses.
Qian Lu sent a series of question marks.
This couple was something else.
Just as Xie Ling finished lamenting, her phone rang. The caller ID read: “Leopard.”
She answered the phone, and Qian Lu’s anxious voice came through: “Old Xie, this is not working. I followed your advice, but the outcome is not great. She has locked me out of the door now. What do I do?”
“What?” Xie Ling, who was out of the loop, was confused and did not understand what Qian Lu was saying at all.
Qian Lu summarized what happened after she chased her in a few sentences. Xie Ling still wanted to laugh, but because of their friendship, she held it in. “You idiot, is the key to Wenwen’s place not on the top shelf of the shoe cabinet by her door? Open the door yourself and go in.”
“That is right!” Qian Lu had a sudden realization and hung up the phone.
Xie Ling was a bit tired from laughing. She opened Ji Xue’s chat window again, thought about it, but still did not reply.
She leaned against the headboard, staring blankly at the phone screen for a while. In her mind, she recalled Lin Man saying, “Who in Haicheng does not know that you, Xie Ling, do not like Omegas?”
For a moment, there was a sense of unreality.
But this feeling flashed by, and she soon drifted into a deep sleep.
The next day, Xie Ling got up early.
The Xie villa had added many new decorative string lights, looking gaudy like an obscure restaurant on the side of the road.
He Rong stood in the middle of the yard, admiring her masterpiece with satisfaction. Xie Ling stood on the balcony of the second floor, leaning out. “Mom, is this your creative idea?”
“Yes, how is it?” Madam He was wearing a gray fur coat, and the diamond earrings on her earlobes refracted a dazzling luster, looking incredibly wealthy.
Xie Ling looked at Madam He, who was full of expectation for praise, and gave her a thumbs-up, albeit insincerely. “It has a great festive feeling!”
“That is the atmosphere I wanted.” He Rong was very satisfied with her daughter’s improving aesthetic, put her hands on her hips, and went back inside.
Xie Hongfei was not at work today, taking a day off to stay home and accompany his wife. Xie Ling looked at the couple, who were over a hundred years old combined and still so affectionate, and felt like she had been force-fed dog food all day.
Fortunately, after eating yuanxiao in the evening, the couple went out, leaving Xie Ling home alone to do as she pleased.
That said, Xie Ling just curled up in the computer chair and watched two movies.
The phone screen was filled with mass-sent holiday blessings. Xie Ling numbly tapped to reply to them one by one, then opened her social media feed. To her surprise, the first post was Qian Lu high-profilely showing off her affection and officially announcing her relationship. In the photo of the two, Tang Wenwen looked impatient, and only the right half of Qian Lu’s face was visible.
Ren Xuan liked and commented instantly: “Quickly set up a meeting, treat us to a meal! Otherwise, wait for your wedding, do not even think about me paying my share!”
Xie Ling recalled their way of chatting at the dinner table last night and tapped to reply: “Seconded.”
The post below that was from Ji Xue. Xie Ling paused for a moment and scrolled past it.
