Transmigrated as the Doomed Scumbag Alpha of the Eldest Princess - Chapter 84
Mowan Ci was startled by the thought that had just crossed her mind.
She didn’t even understand herself why she would think something like that.
After all, this child was hers and Jiang Si’s.
Jiang Si not only had the right to know but also had every reason to help raise the child together.
That was exactly what Mowan Ci had been thinking when she asked Jiang Si whether she liked children. So why had the idea of hiding it from her suddenly come up?
She shook her head, and the truth slowly became clear in her heart.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to tell Jiang Si. It was that the child might not survive, and she was afraid Jiang Si would be happy for nothing.
But then again, if Jiang Si knew… would she be happy?
When Mowan Ci sat upright, the smile on her face had already faded. Her posture remained straight, as if she were quietly waiting for Jiang Si to lean back into her.
Mowan Ci’s heart softened, and she gently rested against her again, wrapping her arms around Jiang Si’s.
“Jiang Si, when will the military physician return?”
“I need to confirm something with her.”
She had hoped to speak to Lan Shao face to face, to ask if the child could be saved, and then tell Jiang Si. But Jiang Si misunderstood her words almost immediately.
“I’ve been wondering about that too. No wonder Wei Nian was so unsettled. You must have been feeling unwell, and she didn’t know what to do.”
Jiang Si looked her over with concern. There was a hint of complaint in her tone.
“I told you already, we should’ve brought Lan Shao back sooner. It’s been nearly two weeks since your heat cycle ended, and still…”
Her voice trailed off, and her cheeks flushed red.
During her heat cycle, Mowan Ci would unconsciously release her scent. From the moment Jiang Si walked into the room, she had been surrounded by the light fragrance of snow lotus. It was calming and soothing.
Realizing her own thoughts were drifting, Jiang Si quickly stopped speaking. She stood up and said, “I’ll get Zhi Miao to come help. Then I’ll head to the island to find Lan Shao myself.”
“What could she possibly be studying with a single Kunze and a useless Dry-type…?”
She mumbled the last part, her voice loud enough to drown out what Mowan Ci was trying to say.
It wasn’t until she had walked quite far from the room that she realized Mowan Ci had spoken.
Jiang Si, usually calm and composed, felt embarrassed and turned back around.
“What did you say just now?”
“I said I wanted to confirm something with Lan Shao. And… I’d rather you stay here with me. Let someone else go call her.”
“Oh. Alright.”
Jiang Si agreed without thinking and started walking back toward Mowan Ci. But halfway there, she suddenly paused.
Mowan Ci tilted her head, about to ask why, when Jiang Si said, “But if someone else goes, I’m afraid Lan Shao might not come back.”
“I really should go myself.”
Jiang Si turned around again, pacing like a gust of wind.
Back and forth. Again and again.
Mowan Ci watched her in silence. Her head throbbed slightly as she let out a soft sigh.
But even that quiet sigh reached Jiang Si’s sharp ears. She turned back immediately and rushed to Mowan Ci’s side.
She gently held her shoulders and whispered, “I won’t go. I’ll send someone else.”
“I’ll stay with you.”
At this point, Mowan Ci’s headache had worsened. She could barely focus on Jiang Si’s words. She waved a hand weakly and leaned back onto the bed.
Jiang Si was panicked, but there was nothing more she could do. She carefully helped Mowan Ci lie down, then hesitated for a moment. Her face turned red as she opened her collar slightly and said awkwardly,
“Maybe… you should bite me again.”
“It might help.”
Mowan Ci rarely saw Jiang Si act this foolish. Her silly offer actually made her smile.
Shaking her head gently, she patted the empty space beside her and said weakly,
“There’s no need. Just stay with me for a while. That will be enough.”
Mowan Ci sounded so sure, but Jiang Si still wasn’t fully convinced.
Even so, if Mowan Ci refused to bite her, she couldn’t force her. So she quietly lay down beside her.
To help release more of her scent, Jiang Si took off her outer robe and loosened her inner layer. She then wrapped her arms around Mowan Ci.
After running around for days, Jiang Si was already exhausted. She hadn’t felt it on the road, nor when she made the durian cake, but now, holding Mowan Ci’s warm, soft body, her eyelids grew heavy.
She tried to stay alert, but when she heard Mowan Ci’s steady breathing, she could no longer fight the sleep.
Before her eyes fully closed, she kept thinking that later, she would personally go and bring Lan Shao back.
With that thought, she tightened her hold around Mowan Ci’s waist and drifted off into a deep sleep.
But the sleep did not last peacefully.
At first, she slept soundly. Then, not long after, she felt Mowan Ci move beside her. Her hands loosened from around Jiang Si’s waist, and she curled up alone at the edge of the bed.
Jiang Si slowly opened her eyes, still drowsy, and reached out to pull her back into her arms.
But Mowan Ci tensed up, resisting her touch with her entire body.
That sudden resistance jolted Jiang Si fully awake. She sat up quickly and turned to look at her.
She saw cold sweat covering Mowan Ci’s forehead. Her teeth were clenched tightly, and her lips moved as she mumbled something.
“Don’t… don’t kill her.”
“Don’t kill…”
Over and over, just those same two lines. The more she said it, the colder her body became. Jiang Si felt her heart sink.
She called Mowan Ci’s name a few times, gently, not wanting to scare her further. But when she saw that nothing was working, she grabbed her outer robe and rushed out of the room.
As soon as she stepped into the hallway, she shouted,
“Zhi Miao! Wei Nian! Come upstairs, quickly!”
The two responded immediately. Just as Jiang Si finished speaking, they were already rushing up the stairs, still getting dressed.
Wei Nian was in front. Seeing Jiang Si, she didn’t bother with formalities and immediately asked, “Is it Her Highness?”
“Yes. You and Zhi Miao stay with her. I’m going to the island to get Lan Shao.”
“Wait for me.”
Zhi Miao was a step behind Wei Nian. By the time they finished speaking, she had just reached the last step. Jiang Si was already leaving so fast that she nearly bumped into her.
Worried sick about Mowan Ci, Zhi Miao was clearly panicking. Even after Jiang Si had gone, she struggled to steady herself, holding onto Wei Nian as her voice trembled.
“What’s wrong with Her Highness… what’s really happening to her?”
Wei Nian had checked Mowan Ci’s pulse earlier, and Zhi Miao knew about it. But no matter how she questioned her afterward, Wei Nian refused to say a word. Now, seeing Jiang Si rush in looking so panicked, Zhi Miao’s heart was in complete chaos.
Wei Nian remained silent, lips tightly pressed together. Zhi Miao’s eyes filled with tears, but she didn’t dare let them fall. She quietly followed her into the room.
When she saw Mowan Ci’s condition, the tears she had been holding back finally rolled down her cheeks. She crouched beside the bed, sobbing softly and helplessly.
Wei Nian felt her chest tighten. She couldn’t stand it and snapped at her.
“Zhi Miao, stop crying.”
“Her Highness will be fine.”
Wei Nian felt completely lost. Her skills were limited, and she had no idea how to handle Mowan Ci’s condition. All she could do was place her hopes in Lan Shao.
She silently prayed that Jiang Si would bring her back quickly.
Jiang Si had not been riding long when the rain began to pour. Thick drops fell hard, blurring her vision. Her anxiety deepened, and she almost lost her way more than once. By the time she found Lan Shao, more time had passed than she had expected.
She burst into the room. Lan Shao was bent over a table full of jars and bottles. Jiang Si strode across the room and grabbed her hand.
Lan Shao jumped in surprise and instinctively tried to pull away. But when she saw Jiang Si soaked and trembling, she froze.
“What happened?”
“Mowan Ci…” Jiang Si said her name through chattering teeth, her body shaking. She didn’t waste another word and pulled Lan Shao out the door with her.
Lan Shao didn’t ask any more questions. She climbed up behind Jiang Si on the horse, and the two of them rode through the rain back to the ship.
Jiang Si explained as they rode, but Lan Shao still didn’t understand clearly. When they reached the room and she finally saw Mowan Ci, her expression grew serious. She stood silently at the bedside, frowning for a long time.
“What is it?” Jiang Si couldn’t bear the suspense.
Lan Shao raised a hand to stop her from speaking. She glanced at Wei Nian, who was pale and silent, and then at Zhi Miao, who looked like she would collapse from crying.
“Have them leave the room.”
Before either of them could speak, Wei Nian got up and pulled Zhi Miao by the hand.
Zhi Miao tried to resist.
“Why are you pulling me? I want to stay with Her Highness.”
Wei Nian didn’t even look at her.
“What can you do in there except get in the way?”
Zhi Miao fell silent, unable to respond. She threw off her sleeve and crouched outside, quietly crying again.
Wei Nian looked at her and let out a long sigh.
She understood that Zhi Miao cared deeply about Mowan Ci. But so did she.
The truth was, in a situation like this, neither of them could do anything to help.
“Jiang Si, sit by the bed and call her name.”
Lan Shao was still searching through her robes as she spoke. Jiang Si hesitated.
“Call her? What if I frighten her?”
Lan Shao stopped moving and glared at her.
“Frighten her? If you could wake her that easily, it would be a good thing. Just do what I said.”
Jiang Si opened her mouth, then closed it again. It sounded harsh, but she understood what Lan Shao meant. She sat down and began softly calling Mowan Ci’s name.
Lan Shao kept searching through her belongings but couldn’t find what she needed. She told Jiang Si to keep going and then left the room in a hurry.
Zhi Miao was still crouched outside. When she saw Lan Shao rush past, she wanted to ask a question, but Lan Shao didn’t even glance at her.
Seeing how focused and serious she was, Zhi Miao stayed quiet. She sat still and watched the door with wide eyes.
A loud noise echoed as Lan Shao pushed the door open again and stepped inside.
She looked at them both with a sharp expression.
“Go down to the first floor. No matter what you hear, do not come back up.”
She turned around before they could respond.
Lan Shao knew that even if Zhi Miao made a fuss, Wei Nian would take her away.
The room fell into silence. The only sound was Jiang Si’s voice, calling Mowan Ci’s name again and again.
Lan Shao closed her eyes and pulled a piece of jade from inside her robe.
The smooth, dark stone began to glow faint green as she murmured something under her breath. The glow grew brighter.
Jiang Si was supposed to keep her focus on Mowan Ci, but the light caught her eye.
Lan Shao looked completely different now. Her presence felt strange.
She was barefoot, her robe half undone, and her hands continued rubbing the jade.
After a while, Mowan Ci’s murmuring faded, and her curled-up body began to relax.
Jiang Si’s face lit up with relief. She turned to call Lan Shao over, but her smile froze when she saw Lan Shao’s face.
All the color had drained from her.
Jiang Si’s heart skipped a beat.
She had noticed something strange about Lan Shao’s behavior earlier, but now it was undeniable.
“Lan Shao?” Jiang Si called her name in a trembling voice.
Lan Shao only frowned. She didn’t answer.
Mowan Ci was finally improving, but Lan Shao…
Jiang Si didn’t know what to do. She didn’t know who to help or what to say.
Suddenly, red filled her vision.
Lan Shao clutched her chest and staggered a few steps toward the bed.
She looked at Jiang Si, trying to comfort her.
“It’s fine now.”
“Her Highness is alright.”
“But you…” Jiang Si stared at the blood at the corner of her mouth.
“You’re bleeding…”
“I’m fine too. You already know I practice both medicine and spiritual techniques. In the West Key family, our methods involve using blood to empower jade.”
As she spoke, Lan Shao opened her hand and showed Jiang Si the jade she had been holding.
The jade pendant, which had just been glowing green, was now a deep blood red. Gradually, the color began to fade. At the same time, Lan Shao’s complexion started to improve.
She motioned for Jiang Si to move aside, then walked to Mowan Ci’s side and placed her fingers on her wrist to check her pulse.
Almost immediately, her brow furrowed. Her gaze slowly shifted from Mowan Ci to Jiang Si.
The look made Jiang Si uneasy. Her heart sank as she asked in a trembling voice, “What’s wrong with her?”
Lan Shao opened her mouth, but no words came out.
For a long while, she said nothing. Jiang Si, who had initially been overwhelmed with worry, gradually calmed down.
And then she started to notice that something was off about Lan Shao’s behavior.
From the very beginning, ever since hearing just a few vague words about Mowan Ci’s condition, Lan Shao had been in a frantic rush.
Jiang Si had been too anxious herself to think clearly at the time. But now that she looked back, she realized—Lan Shao was never this unsettled.
No matter how gossip-hungry or curious she was, Lan Shao always handled things with composure.
Except this time.
She had panicked.
“Lan Shao, why won’t you speak?”
Still waiting for an answer, Jiang Si asked again.
This time, Lan Shao finally turned to face her.
The blood ritual had drained her, and though her color had improved, her face was still pale. After hearing Jiang Si’s question, her face turned even whiter.
She furrowed her brow and said slowly, “I already told you. Her Highness is stable now. But you, Your Highness…”
Jiang Si froze in place. Confused and worried, she instinctively glanced down at herself, but saw nothing out of the ordinary.
Lan Shao gave a soft sigh and continued.
“Her Highness is pregnant. But if she remains too close to you for too long…”
“She may not be able to keep the child.”
