Transmigrated as the Doomed Scumbag Alpha of the Eldest Princess - Chapter 49
The scent of snow lotus lingered thick in the air. Jiang Si let go of all other thoughts. In that moment, she only wanted to hold Mowan Ci in her arms.
Red marks appeared across Mowan Ci’s neck and shoulders.
Jiang Si wished she could bury herself into her, to become part of her.
“Mowan Ci,” she whispered.
“Mark me. Will you?” Her voice, which was usually calm and cold, now dripped with sweetness, like a soft whisper teasing Jiang Si’s ear.
That sudden request snapped Jiang Si back to her senses.
She lowered her head and looked at Mowan Ci’s flushed eyes and slightly swollen lips. With a deep sigh, she pulled herself away.
But Mowan Ci held onto her collar tightly and reached out with trembling fingers, trying to guide Jiang Si’s hand toward the back of her neck.
She was far too obedient, which only made Jiang Si angrier.
They had shared intimacy before. Jiang Si knew exactly what Mowan Ci was like in situations like this. She was usually reserved and subtle with her desire. That was who she was.
Not like this.
Not this open. Not this desperate.
Jiang Si gritted her teeth and moved between Mowan Ci’s legs, lifting her in her arms.
It should have been easy, but Mowan Ci’s legs refused to stay still. The loose fabric that had barely covered her slid off completely, falling to the bed.
There was no way she could be carried outside like this.
Jiang Si had to set her back down and quickly wrapped her with her own cloak.
But Mowan Ci clung to her again, like a serpent wrapping around its prey.
Jiang Si was already losing patience. Her self-control was beginning to crack.
This place was not right.
This was not a place where anything should happen. Not here, surrounded by jars of poisonous creatures and unknown horrors.
When Jiang Si had first rushed in, she had not taken in her surroundings. But now that her mind was clearer, she could see how horrifying it was.
If Mowan Ci woke up and saw all of this, she would be frightened. She would regret everything.
Jiang Si resisted the rising heat within her, took off another layer, and wrapped it tightly around Mowan Ci’s body.
Mowan Ci blinked, her eyes hazy. She looked at Jiang Si with confusion.
While tying the cloak securely, Jiang Si gently told her, “I’m Jiang Si. I’m taking you away from this terrible place right now.”
Before she could finish, Mowan Ci’s warm hand reached out again, trying to stop her from moving.
Then her lips touched Jiang Si’s again.
Jiang Si knew Mowan Ci was not thinking clearly. She had to speak softly to comfort her.
“Mowan Ci, don’t act like this. Please, be good. Come back with me, alright?”
Mowan Ci shook her head and reached for her again.
This time, Jiang Si gave in and held her tightly.
If she wanted to be held, then she would hold her.
There was no time to worry about appearances. They had to leave.
Jiang Si hated the jars filled with snakes and rats and centipedes. Just looking at them made her scalp tingle. She lowered her head and walked quickly through the cave.
Mowan Ci clung to her the whole way. Jiang Si kept moving, gritting her teeth.
When they were almost back to the waiting area where Su Xun and the others were stationed, Jiang Si stopped and gently set Mowan Ci down.
Soft and boneless, Mowan Ci leaned completely against her. Jiang Si cupped her face and said seriously, “The Jingyuan soldiers are right outside. If anyone sees you like this, you’ll regret it later. Please listen to me. Just this once.”
Mowan Ci didn’t understand. She only wanted to hold on to her.
Her body was burning, and only Jiang Si’s presence made it bearable. But it was difficult for Jiang Si.
The cloak was large enough to cover Mowan Ci completely. Jiang Si decided not to waste more time trying to reason with her. She pulled the hood up over Mowan Ci’s head, picked her up again, and walked out.
Lan Shao had already sensed something was wrong. She had spread medicinal powder around the cave entrance in advance. When Jiang Si came out, the Jingyuan soldiers had already been moved back by fifty meters.
They had left in a rush and didn’t bring a carriage. Jiang Si had no choice but to place Mowan Ci in front of her on the horse.
If she wanted to cling to her, then let her cling tightly.
The road back was not long, but for Jiang Si, it was exhausting. She had to endure both the horse’s jolts and the electric shivers running through her body from Mowan Ci’s touch.
By the time they returned to Marquis Jiajing’s estate, Jiang Si was drenched in sweat.
It was the dead of winter. If the person in her arms had not been Mowan Ci, she never would have broken into a sweat like this.
Back at the southern courtyard, Jiang Si had not yet laid Mowan Ci down when Zhi Miao came rushing up. Behind her was Wei Nian, his face full of concern.
Jiang Si had expected this. She didn’t try to explain and instead signaled to Su Xun and Lan Shao to speak for her. Then she carried Mowan Ci straight into the bedchamber.
The sky was beginning to brighten, but the heated floor was still warm.
Jiang Si placed Mowan Ci on the bed and began to remove her own damp clothing. But as she moved, Mowan Ci stirred as well.
The sticky sensation was uncomfortable.
Mowan Ci felt the same. She frowned and whispered softly, “Bath.”
Jiang Si could not help but laugh. Even now, she still insisted on a bath?
Then again, they were both soaked, and it was unpleasant.
Jiang Si guessed that Zhi Miao was waiting outside. She called out, “Zhi Miao, bring hot water. Your mistress wants a bath.”
“Yes, I’ll prepare it right away.”
Less than fifteen minutes later, someone knocked at the door.
Jiang Si thought Zhi Miao had returned. She tucked Mowan Ci in, then got up to open the door.
But it was not Zhi Miao. It was Wei Nian, holding a bowl of medicine.
As a neutral, she was not sensitive to alpha or omega scents. Even so, her cheeks were flushed.
She kept her voice low. “Physician Lan asked me to check Her Highness’s condition.”
While she took Mowan Ci’s pulse, the princess remained restless. Jiang Si had to gently restrain her arms and legs.
Perhaps recognizing Wei Nian, Mowan Ci finally calmed a little. She turned her head to the side, biting her lip.
Wei Nian finished her diagnosis and looked up.
“It’s just as Physician Lan suspected. Her Highness has been poisoned with Mei Shuyan.”
” Mei Shuyan? What kind of poison is that?”
“Physician Lan said if you want to know more, you’ll have to find her outside. I’ll stay here and look after Her Highness.”
“Alright,” Jiang Si replied with a heavy breath.
Although Jiang Si still felt uneasy about leaving Mowan Ci alone, she knew she had to step away. Staying by her side without a plan would not help.
Lan Shao was already waiting at the lakeside pavilion. The moment she saw Jiang Si approach, she met her halfway. Knowing the urgency of the situation, she spoke without delay.
“Her Highness was poisoned with Mei Shuyan.”
“After exposure, within five hours, a Kunze will feel an overwhelming need for a Qianyuan. Without a mark, the poison is usually fatal.”
“But here is the strange part. Her Highness had already been exposed to Meishu and Mei Shuyan is actually the antidote to Meishu. The two poisons cancel each other out. After a few hours, they will naturally vanish from her body.”
“However, during that period, her instincts as a Kunze will completely take over. She will be extremely emotionally unstable and in need of your presence to calm her.”
“I still don’t understand Xi Yuefeng’s real intent. With her skill, she must have known that the Princess had already been exposed to Meishu. So why would she…”
Lan Shao went on explaining the characteristics of the two poisons, but Jiang Si had stopped listening. Her gaze was fixed on Lan Shao.
“Lan Shao, you know Xi Yuefeng. You’re very familiar with her.” It was not a question but a statement.
Jiang Si had noticed the strange way Lan Shao and Xi Yuefeng spoke to each other when Mowan Ci was taken. At the time, she had been too focused on Mowan Ci to give it much thought. Now, the unease returned, stronger than ever.
Normally, Lan Shao was cheerful and unbothered by most things, but now she fell silent. She lowered her head and suddenly dropped to her knees.
“My Lord, I…”
“Get up. I hate this kneeling back and forth.”
“Yes.”
Jiang Si sat down in the pavilion. Lan Shao stood stiffly at her side. Jiang Si beckoned her closer.
“Come here and speak.”
She had only intended to ask a few things about Lan Shao’s connection to Xi Yuefeng. She had not expected the usually relaxed and lively Lan Shao to be this tense. It was rare and even a bit amusing.
Jiang Si had no intention of putting her on the spot. She spoke calmly.
“You don’t have to tell me anything if you truly don’t want to. But it would be best if you told me everything you know about Xi Yuefeng.”
Lan Shao lifted her head. Her eyes were slightly red. After a long pause, she nodded and began.
“In the Western Frontier, medical and spiritual practices are popular now. But a hundred years ago, poison magic was the true national craft. The Xi Yue clan represented the pinnacle of that art. After the Ximen clan overthrew the old regime, most of the Xi Yue clan vanished. Those who survived became the lowest class. Xi Yuefeng’s mother was among them.”
“When the current king was still a prince, he saw her performing as a palace dancer. He fell for her instantly. After becoming king, he took her out of the palace. That was how Xi Yuefeng was born. But her mother died in childbirth. In her memory, Xi Yuefeng kept her mother’s surname.”
“The king has been good to her, but her existence has always caused problems. His queen and their children despised her. Once she arrived in the capital, the torment only worsened. Her face was destroyed. Her personality changed. After that…”
Jiang Si could not help interrupting.
“You know an awful lot about her. Aren’t you afraid I’ll start to question you?”
“You already said I could speak only what I wanted.”
“Still, are you not concerned I might start to suspect your loyalty? You really do know a lot about her.”
Lan Shao’s voice was steady, her posture upright.
“I am not afraid. My loyalty to you is absolute. Heaven and earth can bear witness.”
Jiang Si smiled faintly and nodded.
“Continue then.”
“I do not know every detail. But I have heard that Xi Yuefeng’s ruined face prevents her from appearing in the light. She can only come out at night. She also has to take medicine daily to stop the spread of the poison in her body.”
“She cannot stay away from the Western Frontier for long.”
“Then this time, she came at great risk. And now she has to go back?”
Jiang Si remembered only a brief line in the historical record. None of this detail had ever been known.
If Xi Yuefeng was truly this dangerous, then guarding against her would be like defending against a ghost. Constant, suffocating.
“Is there any way to eliminate her completely?”
Lan Shao shook her head, unsure.
“I can try.”
“So, no one else can deal with her?”
“There are some. The king’s consort and his other children can.”
